The Neighbo(u)rhood is a pseudo-British indie alternate rock band actually from California. The band's members disguise themselves as Brits so that they could be accepted to the general public. They succeed at that by making their music videos that are inspired by popular bands from the British indie scene, such as Franz Ferdinand, Two Door Cinema Club, The Script and more. Their songs have attracted many E-Girls on TikTok. Their songs have also inspired an era of music videos where it's just an aesthetic image and the lyrics are displayed in all caps, in Arial, bold and italics.

History[edit | edit source]

2011-2013: I Hate Myself.[edit | edit source]

The Neighborhood was formed in August 2011. The members of the band were inspired by the British indie alternative rock scene, so to make themselves look cool, they decided to use the British spelling of the word "neighborhood" instead. They would release two songs: "Male Heist" and "Cardigan Forecast", the latter being their most popular song of all time and the song that gets used so much that you're tired of hearing it a lot in the radio. They released their album, I Hate Myself. on April 23, 2013 and music critics hated it. Despite this, they got a cult following from the album because of their lyrics that ponder to Tumblr whores.

They would then open for Imagine Dragons, which is appropriate because The Neighborhood are the indie alt rock equivalents of Imagine Dragons.

2014-2015: Ninja Warrior[edit | edit source]

Apparently, for some reason, they made an EP that consisted of nothing but features from famous rappers in an attempt to be more critically acclaimed. They would then release their new album Ninja Warrior in October 2014. It contained some of their most popular songs including "Born Again" and "Mummy Is A Bitch". The album gained more of their cult fanbase because of how it pandered to more Tumblr whores. The latter song also became popular which proves that they are not one hit wonders. But who cares at this point?

2017-present: Tumblr Whores, Lockdown and hiatus[edit | edit source]

The band decided to release their new album dedicated to their fanbase, called Tumblr Whores in 2017 that contains a diss track against the founders of Tumblr for banning pornography on their website. It included all of their songs that were previously released on their EPs that they released before, so it kinda doesn't count as a studio album and more of a compilation album. Some of their songs from that album include "The English Channel" and "Greggs". Another album, Lockdown was released 3 years later because of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world. They have a single called "Hand Sanitizer" that is about washing your hands with, you know. Otherwise this was themed after the British version of quarantining. That's pretty much all.

And then they went on hiatus. Otherwise, some bad things happened to the band, including the fact that their drummer got accused of sexual harassment and the fact that Billie Eilish, with her immaculate taste in men, dated Jesse Rutherford out of nowhere. Thankfully they broke up.

Musical style[edit | edit source]

The Neighborhood's style is an imitation of British alternative indie rock groups and have the most cliched lyrics from the scene. Their performance style is a ripoff as well.
