84.188.212.1 (TalkContribs (del)Block (rem-lst-all)WhoisCityProxy?WP Edits) vandalized MagibonArguecat3 00:41, 15 August 2008 (UTC) Firithfenion, the person who is using This IP address(I ran a WHOIS search on the IP listed in the article's history, and its from Berlin Germany, same as Firithfenion/author of wikipedia Magibon article) and this clone of Hetellies user name to vandalize Uncyclopedia's Magibon article and talkpage, my userpage, and the real Hetellies' userpage. |His IP should be banned, and the fake Hetellies sock should be banned as well. Thank you. Arguecat3 00:26, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Vanalism

This Ip: User:81.99.70.195 is constantly vandalising the Canoepolio article and turning it into mindless drivel. Is there any chance in banning him please as I'm sick of undoing his edits.

Also this IP:User:89.241.245.192 which has also been vandalising the page, and as of a few hours ago has put pornography on it too. Canoepolio 10:27, 26 Mar 2007 (UTC)

Listen, the place to put those complaints is the ban patrol itself, not its talk page. I've banned the first one, I'll take a look at the second. ~Jewriken.GIF 16:39, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Suspected Copyright Violation

The recent article 50 facts you dont need to know seems suspiciously like a copy and paste, considering there is only one edit, and although I didn't find anything on a Google search I thought someone might want to check it out. 70.88.222.85 19:59, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I just did some searching myself. If it's copied from elsewhere on the internet it's had extensive restructuring, and if it's copied from a book or something we'll probably never know. The format does look suspiciously cut and paste-esque, but I certainly can't confirm it. I'll ask the contributor for an explanation on his talk page. --—rc (t) 20:15, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • It certainly looks like something out of Maddox's website. 152.163.100.199 04:59, 6 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Well, we could just VFD it and get it over with. Copyrite or not, it sucks. --Bone F clear.png Sir Famine, Gun Petition » 23:04, 6 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I agree, too much conspiracty theory and not enough funny. I would bet it's not cut and paste though. Just a compliation of ideas from other sources at beast best. Although, I do think Revelations 23 would be a great candidate for a uncyclopedia page.

I put the copyvio tag on the article. --AAA! (AAAA) 19:00, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Possible Vandalism ?

155.84.57.253 (TalkContribs (del)Block (rem-lst-all)WhoisCityProxy?WP Edits) has rewritten large parts of George Lucas. Not sure if its vandalism, although much of the original content has been removed. 70.88.222.85 22:35, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

  • The article has now been completely rewritten. 70.88.222.85 20:02, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Best to put this stuff on the main Ban Patrol page, even if you're not sure it's a violation. An admin will check it out and decide whether it's banworthy. The BP talk page doesn't get as much traffic so no one might see your post. --—rc (t) 20:21, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Multi year/month bans

I'm considering unblocking some of the IP's with massive bans (Special:Ipblocklist) as they probably serve no purpose as they spammer/vandal almost certainly has a new IP by now and we are probably just blocking newbs, any objections? --The Right Honourable Maj Sir Elvis UmP KUN FIC MDA VFH Bur. • I put a factual template on the article, however the author User:Pipsette3000 has since removed it without any significant changes. It seems to be a copyright violation at least. 70.88.222.85 21:48, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Neopoprealism

70.156.235.130 (TalkContribs (del)Block (rem-lst-all)WhoisCityProxy?WP Edits) recently changed some facts from the original version by Elvis and, while its not a clear case of vandalism, I assumed from the "Back" message in the history that it is the author of the original spam page. While I personally liked Elvis's version better, I decided against reverting it until someone could take a look at it. 64.12.116.199 06:57, 24 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Blanking by Author

The article Academic Resource Center was recently blanked by UtarEmpire and, while I would normaly post this on the main listing, it appears said user is the author of the article. As I saw no notices in the talk page or otherwise, I reverted it instead of putting a blank template. 152.163.100.199 22:48, 21 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Couple of admins have left notices on his talk page. We're drawing straws to see who gets to ban him. --Bone F clear.png Sir Famine, Gun Petition » 23:51, 21 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Possible vandalism ?

I'm not sure where to put this, as I'm not completely sure this is vandalism, but it appears 12.21.214.231 (TalkContribs (del)Block (rem-lst-all)WhoisCityProxy?WP Edits) has been deleting sections from various templates since September 9. It could be just usual maintenance however I thought the Administrators might want to look into it. 64.12.116.199 08:32, 15 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Recent Stuff

Massive vandalism like we just saw from 68.56.96.69 can be hidden from recent changes by appending &bot=1 to their user contributions list before clicking the rollback links. They'll be visible if you select "show bots" while keeping the default recent changes clean for normal edit patrolling. See Wikipedia:Revert#Bot rollback. Angela 09:30, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)

telecom.lt

Is it just me, or is anyone else trying to hold back the urge to ban the entire part of the world which falls under 85.206.X.X.... There was some talk on wikipedia about blocking this range back in April. That IP block falls under Lietuvos Telekomas. We have 6 bans from this block this week. I don't know of a way to list edits grouped by IP, or I'd try and see what percentage of this block is making an ass of themselves. --Famine 21:11, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)

I'm all for banning that IP range for a week or so to at least calm things down. after that, we can see what happens. --PantsMacKenzie 22:33, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Ok, according to some user on the Main Ban patrol page, the dynamic IP is between 85.206.0.X and 85.206.10.X. So, we can block each of those 10 individual ranges if we have to. --PantsMacKenzie 02:51, 2 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Holy dumptruck of data batman! How about a graph next time, eh? Based on my skimming, I see that we have a couple of trouble-spots:
85.206.X.X
194.102.56.X (also a Romanian block, it seems)
While 85.206.0-10.x seems to be the main block (9 bans), there are three other bans from IPs above the 85.206.10.X range.

Can we set up "you must log in to edit" for only some pages? That would be another way to help spare those pages which are really getting hammered. --Famine 12:35, 2 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Those two blocks are:
85.206.X.X is telecom.lt, the Lithuanian telephone company's ISP
194.102.56.X is dtedu.net Romanian Education Network - Asociatia Studenteasca a Retelelor din Drumul Taberei - Bucharest (from http://www.ripe.net/whois?form_type=simple&full_query_string=&searchtext=194.102.56.0&do_search=Search )
At the moment, 85.206.0.0/20 (or 85.206.0-15.*) is blocked for 24hrs after more than a dozen attempts to block vandalism from 85.206.* to Lithuania and Uncyclopedia:Protected page by lesser means (including a page protect) had already been tried. {{Number of Bans|4095}} Maybe blocking the first 1023 addresses in this range (85.206.0-3.*) would have addressed most of this (at least eight bans of the dozen in 85.206.*, including the worst of the vandalism, are in that range).
All I've been able to find on requiring login to edit is a setting which would block anon-IP edits for the entire wiki [3], $wgWhitelistEdit, which would need to be in one of the config files and which would affect *everything*... IOW massive overkill. Doesn't look promising so far... --Carlb 00:34, 3 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Well, I'm guessing that the 4th of July is less important in the rest of the world (canada) than it is in the US, which means the lack of blanks/vandals/bans for the last day must be related to the above massive bannage, and not due to the holiday. So huzzah for massive bannage! --Famine 13:14, 4 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Current bans - by IP

Tried taking Special:Ipblocklist, removing names, then sort /+25 and get this - one dozen bans in the Lietuvos Tel IP range:

Making Ban Patrol only accessable to registered users

Kinda goes against the spirit of Our Lord Wiki, but some pages maybe need that extra protection from lamers who try to cover their tracks. Though of course this would stop the helpful anon users from reporting stuff. --IMBJR 11:38, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)

While it would prevent anon users from reporting stuff, I'm not all that happy with anon users at the moment. I don't see a huge reason not to be logged in to edit - it defines your personality and gives you a history. In the wikis I run, I disallow anon edits. Granted they are much more closed groups that what we're trying for here, but it gives a better sense of community, and I have had 0, zip, none, nada vandalizm.
With that as my disclamer, I'm all for closing off the Ban Patrol to anon users. It will help with blanking/modifying, as I don't always check to see who edited what first - I go by what's on the page. And we have plenty of registered users who can spot vandals and go post there. --Famine 13:45, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)
As my first act as sysop I would like to protect this page. Admin please pipe up if there are any objections. --IMBJR 19:22, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Older Stuff

I banned a user for a month a few days ago for messing with the VfDs. Are there any guidelines to how much time a user is banned for? --Darkdan 23:11, 14 Mar 2005 (EST)

I generally do 24 days. A month is just fine. Generally we just want them to get bored and not come back, so yeah, that time span is fine. --Chronarion 12:19, 15 Mar 2005 (EST)

Now that the list is getting bigger, I think it would be a good idea to switch to using headers similar to in VFD or chronological headers like in QuickVFD. It is still very usable right now, but once it gets to be two or three times as big it will be a problem. Any thoughts? --Paulgb Talk 22:22, 1 Apr 2005 (EST)

Simply archive or delete the old ban patrol history. The bans auto expire anyway. --Chronarion 01:13, 7 Apr 2005 (EDT)

So I was given the option mark an article as "patroled" earlier today. It was one I found both distasteful and unfunny (Divine Lord of Germany), but what does it mean to "patrol" an article and when is it appropriate to do so? --Keebler 11:04, 10 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Marking an edit as patrolled means that you have looked at the edit and that you have seen it is not vandalism. It is more useful with with larger wikis where more than one person is looking at recent changes, and they can easily see what changes havn't been patroled yet. Once an edit is patroled, it looses its red ! by it. I agree that that page isn't very funny or appropriate, so I deleted it. You can use QuickVFD for reporting articles like that in the future. --Paulgb Talk 11:14, 10 Apr 2005 (EDT)

I added WP Edits to the IP template, because I discovered that people who are jackasses on Uncyclopedia are usually jackasses on wikipedia too. --Paulgb Talk 14:58, 25 Apr 2005 (EDT)

I made everything sorted by week. Makes it a bit more organized and easier to archive. --Paulgb Talk 14:24, 29 May 2005 (EDT)

Vandelopedia

Can someone creat the above so that all the nuisances can be sent there to annoy each other and leave the rest of us alone?

Jackiespeel 21:48, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

  • We did create the Vandalopedia, but users kept on coming in and creating sensible, insightful and humorous articles. Pricks. Modusoperandi 17:58, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Dynamic IP Address

About 90% of internet users will have what's called a dynamic IP address, which means that every time they connect to the internet, they will be assigned a random IP address, so it will be different each time. This makes blocking IP addresses pretty useless and means that other innocent people will end up being blocked. You normally have to pay a subscription if you want a fixed IP address, a sort of "IP rental" to the ISP, usually about £2 a month.

What are you talking about, my name is Alan Liefting. I edit wikipedia using a nickname and not my real name. It must be some kind of coincidence. I like using my real name and I give permission for all others to use this name on any other project. There is no copyright on names especially when you are using your own. Aaaaalllllllllaaaaannnnnnn Liefting 02:08, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
I seriously doubt that your name is Alan Liefting. I edit Wikipedia using my own name. I am aware that there is no copyright on names and I am quite certain you created the Uncyclopedia username in order to discredit me. 203.109.209.43 05:22, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't know what the drama is here. It's my userpage and I can do whatever I want with it. MrN9000 removed the quote mentioning NXWave but Mordillo (who blocked NXWave mentioning not to gloat) reverted him with the edit summary "Leave AEs page to him please". So this user should be on the grounds of vandalizing other userpages regardless of being correct or not.--Æ 23:27, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Well the grounds are that NXWave is much worse than anyone thought. He's an agressive guy who we should all ignore even in refrence. First of all, he insults AE and also threatens AE's death in a now-deleted forum topic that NXWave created that said that he was JohnB from TalkShoe or somewhere. He also threatened to kill Mordillo in a forum topic where he played an anonymous IP. Now who has grudges on Mordillo and AE. I think NXWave. In fact if NXWave were to "edit" your user page. He would actually gloat more about the ban by adding a secondary quote that you made. In fact, I have reasons to belive that it is Taylor Karras that is behind NXWave (you ever listen to the audio files he made, that's his actual voice right there). The proof, if you go to http://www.talkshoe.com and search for JohnB: You'll find his show which is aroung 11:00PM ET (note his show name is JohnB's Digital Graffiti Talkcast) . Join his show and ask about Taylor Karras, you'll get all the answers you'll need. (one note, Taylor has a really bad grudge against JohnB.) How do I know this, well let's just say I've been browsing TalkShoe since March 2007 and damn did that guy yell his head off in anger. --Uncognito 23:47, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Meh, he's that bad a guy. </sarcasm> -- Kip the Egg Easter egg.gif Talk Easter egg.gif Works Easter egg.gif 23:52, Feb. 11, 2008
Nice sarcasm joke Kep. And adding to that, he's also the "Don't taze me bro, bro". In fact, if you listen to this. A few minutes into the file, you'll hear NXWave's voice. Confirming my suspicions. --Uncognito 23:59, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeesh, so much drama. I think the IP should have a warning ban, personally, because it is AE's userpage, which he may do what he wants with. Whatever death threats NX may have made, I am very nearly 100% sure that they are devoid of any substance. Frankly, NXWave seems, to me, like just another Drama-maker, with an annoying flair for starting pointless arguments about nothing, namely with AE. If AE wants the quote, I think he should have it--I don't think it's doing any harm, just look at the quotes on Mordillo's page. - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon Baloon.gif(Tick Tock) (Contribs) 00:03, Feb 12

The fact that what you said sounds similar to her style of trolling notwithstanding, it's just a little strange that one of the first places to which you hark is some random user-run establishment that was just started a few days to a week ago. You're probably not going to be banned for being a sock, but if you keep acting like this, it's possible you will be banned for simply trolling. If you don't know what that means, it means that you're being unnecessarily rude and wording your posts in ways that are meant to elicit altercations. Please refrain from doing so in the future.
