I would like to bring your attention to this forum[edit source]
Forum:Vote to De-Op Lyrithya Nominally Humane! 03:20 07 May
Greetings![edit source]
Thought I'd let you know about a new feature we've got on recent changes, called "patrolled edits". If you do any cleanup on RC, patrolling can be a useful tool. Essentially, it "approves" edits by any users who are not in the auto-patrolled user group (IPs, newbies, etc). It makes it much easier for multiple people to sweep up, as they don't have to keep checking the same pages. You can read about it here. Also, if you'd like to patrol multiple edits at a time, or just patrol edits directly from RC, I've got a special javascript which I whipped up recently. You can use it by putting importScript( "User:Bizzeebeever/scripts/patrol.js" )
into either your uncyclopedia.js or monobook.js, depending on which theme you use.
If you already knew about it, then please disregard this message. Cheers. ~ Mon, May 14 '12 0:03 (UTC)
- I only understand a small part of that. Is the general idea that it's one of MrN9000's schemes of madness that don't really do anything?;)--Sycamore (Talk) 08:54, May 14, 2012 (UTC)
- Actually, it's MrN's, mine, and Puppy's. It's a standard feature of MediaWiki that was only turned on recently. And it would actually do something, if people used it.
- Here, let me give you an example. Let's say some IP or new user comes along and, over the course of five edits, sweeps up the punctuation and spelling on Canada. You go to investigate, see that they are legitimate edits, and then mark them as "patrolled". What happens? Well, the little red "!" will disappear from those edits on Special:RecentChanges. That way, I, Mattsnow, an admin, or whomever, can see that the edit has been approved by somebody else, so multiple people don't have to waste time checking the same edits.
- Patrolled edits can also be filtered out from Special:RecentChanges. Just click the link near the top of the page that says "hide patrolled edits".
- My javascript simply enhances Special:RecentChanges to allow you to patrol grouped changes, all at once (the usual method only allows you to patrol one change at a time), or to patrol a change without looking at it (as you might do for an edit to a user talk page). ~ Mon, May 14 '12 13:54 (UTC)
Article to be added to QVFD[edit source]
Hey. Could you please add Political correctness FAQ to QVFD. That page is locked to all but auto-confirmed, and the article is not original material. While I cannot confirm the original of this, as it has been copy-pasted in a significant number of areas, it may be a copyright at the worst, and is a repeated meme at the best.– Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.1.240.1 (talk • contribs)
Wow, geez, I took a look at that, and confirmed it. The POTR scandal gains a new facet. I'd recommend moving that page to "Alcohol's" user space, not deleting it -- we may need it to hold against him. (Unless he can prove he's the original author, lol.)~ Tue, May 15 '12 8:59 (UTC)- Oh, is that you, POTR? Sorry, didn't recognize your IP address. ~ Tue, May 15 '12 9:03 (UTC)
Hello Mr 103.1.240 - I moved this page to the original users accounts personal space away from public eyes to so speak - Hopefully this sorts this all out. Cheers for informing us of this:0)--Sycamore (Talk) 10:18, May 15, 2012 (UTC)
- Just so everybody knows, I have been informed that I made a mistake about the original author. It seems Alcohol simply removed that section from the article Political correctness to its own article, which was a good-faith attempt to clean up a page without pissing off any of its old authors. I apologize for my own oversight.
- In my defense, though, it was a bit difficult to trace the origins of that section. Looking at the history, it would seem MadMax pulled that section from Politically correct on February 5th, and it was apparently pasted into that page on Sep 9 '08 by Gabrielbray, who apparently was a one-trick user.
- Anyway. No scandal here. To make it clear that Alcohol was more or less blameless, I'm going to move it back to mainspace and then QVFD it. ~ Wed, May 16 '12 17:48 (UTC)

*poke*[edit source]
I have noticed a few times you have archived QVFD when all the stuff under a given day is yet to be checked, this allows stuff that has not been deleted to go unnoticed for weeks. I think we're required to wait until all of its redlinks of has a QVFDc over it. I think thats it or something... ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!) 10:24, May 30, 2012 (UTC)
- Nah - that never been the way it's been done, the impetus is for the admin overlords to check new pages an' shit. I would not worry about that and just change the days as the days change.--Sycamore (Talk) 19:55, May 30, 2012 (UTC)

The Wheel of Time on VFD[edit source]
I agree entirely here that the criterion that "I've never heard of the subject matter" (used, in fact, by two of the Delete voters) is too harsh. It is for this reason that I abstain on fightcruft, anime, and stuff like that. I would declare my rare agreement with you in that public square, except that its poopsmithing is imminent.
Your criterion in the VFD of Exam--"If there's some good, it should be kept," I don't buy, as there is a difference between faulty design and poor execution. The comedy design in this one is simply to write stupid things about exams, plus write stupid things in the form of an exam....That is, there's no design. Spıke ¬ 02:45 13-Jun-12
- Well agreement in a rare and welcome thing... as for the second case, it's a bit more contentious - obviously quality is often secondary to funny at times (consider the colonized Wikipedia article Vrs, the hilarious old featured one). Since this sites primary function is to be funny, it seems counter intuitive to delete major 'real' subjects that have some funny in there. Sites such as wikipedia will obviously be harsher on matters such as deletion, much like academia whereby the critique is on the whole rather than the sum of it's parts:)--Sycamore (Talk) 09:53, June 13, 2012 (UTC)
But my dilemma is not funny versus quality, but whether it seems to have a plan (or a hope), in which case many of us can and do improve the quality. Yes, Wikipedia is where I go when I want "harsh." Spıke ¬ 10:11 13-Jun-12
- Without picking through various nominations - obviously there is little dispute that if it's just random crap throughout with nothing redeeming the article then weeding is a healthy option. Having a system that breeds contention, deletes some genuine bits of humour that could be expanded upon or used in a rewrite and worst of all builds a secondary 'maintainence' class that does little to add anything to our community is not really a beneficial process. This isn't yourself but I happen to view it as grossly unfair to writers, especially new ones that can find there work not given much of a chance and worse still alienate good contributers.
- Just as some background on these matters: Some here remember that when I started, my contributions were not that great and I was also banned by Mordillo for getting pissed at being bossed around. There were a couple of people here who had a bit of faith and I have subsequently come to be a very productive members of the community here. The overarching attitude of deletions and hammering people who don't quite make the grade will cost us good contributers in the future. This cause for me is quite personal as it's important to never forget where you came from.--Sycamore (Talk) 12:07, June 13, 2012 (UTC)
A cry for help...[edit source]
Well, I saw your Adopt-a-Noob program and I thought it would help me kickstart my editing skills on Uncyclopedia. Can you help me through this program? I have been a reader of this Uncyclopedia for many months but decided to join yesterday because I saw you have a writing contest in progress.--Bp2611 (talk) 07:33, June 13, 2012 (UTC)
Another question: How exactly can I make a new page where I can actually write what I have come up with so far?--Bp2611 (talk) 16:53, June 13, 2012 (UTC)
- Search the page you want to write about, then click the (possible) red link and write the stuff you have come up so far. 16:56, 13 June, 2012 (UTC)
And how do I add the article to the list where all other entries are? Using "edit"? (The list in the PLS page)--Bp2611 (talk) 17:56, June 13, 2012 (UTC)
- Yes. 18:00, 13 June, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. One more question: How do I add pictures to the article? (I know I am annoying xD)
- Hey again... Here's a little guide to uploading:
Uploading/formatting images[edit source]
- First, upload the pic to Uncyc's spacious and luxuriously appointed server.
- Images go in like this
- Full size
- With a caption (XXXpx is the displayed image width in pixels}
- Right (or left. Center too.)
- You can add more than one option, for instance:
- appears on the page like this:
Does this explain it for you?:0)--Sycamore (Talk) 20:45, June 13, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks :D--Bp2611 (talk) 21:05, June 13, 2012 (UTC)

- Yeah... it's a cracking first article. I think you've got a real chance to take the best article prize:0)--Sycamore (Talk) 19:25, June 14, 2012 (UTC)
This is a stupid question lol, but there is a user named cuteZekrom and he has an article in the noob category but it previously was in the regular one. (I don't think he is a noob) Is that allowed? --Bp2611 (talk) 07:32, June 17, 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah that's allowed, I had a look and he joined in February, the rules say you can enter within your first 6 months. I don't know why he moved it over but there's nothing particularly wrong with it. Best of luck in the PLS. --ChiefjusticeXBox360 07:58, June 17, 2012 (UTC)

And another question: How do you make numbered lists? :)--Bp2611 (talk) 18:12, June 17, 2012 (UTC)
- Hey dude, just use the # key =
- 0)--Sycamore (Talk) 18:26, June 17, 2012 (UTC)
- I gave Bp2611 one on the page he's working on. (Hey BP, not so much boldfacing!) Sycamore, how did you do that? Your three list items overprint on my screen! Spıke ¬ 18:36 17-Jun-12
- Thanks. Looks like a rendering problem here. The HTML it produces looks legal and with no tricks that would cause overprinting. Apparently that is what Mozilla 3 does with an ordered list with empty list items. Spıke ¬ 19:02 17-Jun-12
What do you think?[edit source]
I did some work on my PLS entry yesterday. Do you think it's ready for VFH?--Bp2611 14:54, August 17, 2012 (UTC)
Patrolling[edit source]
Bizzeebeever has asked in his Forum:Patrolling edits (again) (though not by name) that when processing an edit, such as by putting ICU on it, you mark the page "patrolled." He has taken it upon himself to use the Patrolled flag to review all noobie changes to the wiki (and on rare occasions, I take a turn) and this added step would be a time-saver as it would note that the page needs no further scrutiny. Spıke ¬ 17:41 15-Jun-12
Category:Articles that think they are cleverer than they are[edit source]
Sycamore, I don't think this is a good idea. We already have scads of categories, such as People who didn't fuck your mom in the kitchen last night, which I have characterized as "cracking wise with the navigation tools" so as to tell one last joke on the bottom line. Yours is a category that noobies can use to pan articles. Although you have only applied it to an article in your own userspace, that is, to pan yourself, I think no good can come of this. Spıke ¬ 00:44 26-Jun-12
- Then again, our categories are all but useless. There are about nine thousand more than there need to be, and newbies and intermediates never take the time to learn to use them properly. At this point, the only reason we have categories is ...to parody Wikipedia's format. Which is really what we're doing in the first place. ~ Tue, Jun 26 '12 1:00 (UTC)
- As someone who chuckled a bit at the category, I say that some good has already come of it. --
- @Spike - It's not in 'my userspace to make fun of myself' (I am easily as clever as I think I am:)) it's my PLS entry and this category will be mainspaced after the PLS competition. Speaking as someone who has been extensively involved with the categories on here, it's not really like I've spammed it across several articles that it would be inappropriate for. Nor is is stupid and not funny...--Sycamore (Talk) 12:53, June 26, 2012 (UTC)

First...thanks for judging. I personally don't mind coming in last...thats fine. I found images and modified them to illustrate my poems (I actually changed my images as the rules say we should)...and mixed both image and text together...so...why would it not be entered in that category? --ShabiDOO 22:20, July 2, 2012 (UTC)
- I thought it might have done better as a best article entry.--Sycamore (Talk) 17:39, July 3, 2012 (UTC)

Good evening sir, I would like to announced that this guy likes to masturbate over Lady Gaga's flaccid penis every night while listening to songs such as Bad Romance and whenever someone exposes this, he hisses at people. If you are in any way affiliated with this guy then I suggest you avoid him at all costs and spread the word that he cannot be trusted. Thank you for your co-operation and have a pleasant evening. -- Lost Labyrinth • (t) • (c) • (a) 21:38, July 8, 2012 (UTC)

Scotland[edit source]
If you have an issue with four hours worth or work then you could at least have the common decency to actually post about it in the discussion, oddly enough your opinion isn't the only one.
DavefaceFMS 22:24, July 28, 2012 (GMT)
- If I may kibitz: Sycamore does tend to get protective with his creations (as I famously did with Islam a couple years ago). But what you are doing is taking a formerly Featured Article in a drastic new direction, not entirely funny (the rant about "Obersturmführer Thatcher" is trite and not about Scotland) and not entirely good English. That's always an invitation to get overridden. (And what's with the ten straight <br>s?) The article could be better--there are patches that seem like personal opinions, delivered in the first person--that could become more "encyclopedic." More discussion is in order--more, at least, than a revert with the comment "Complete and utter mess." But the number of hours you spent doing this is not a factor; and please don't begin by accusing Sycamore of lacking "decency" or thinking his is the only opinion. Spıke ¬ 16:11 29-Jul-12
- Just to chip in, you've mucked up the formatting and added an infobox - a redundant feature that adds nothing to the article. Moreover the cliched Thatcher section is a less than optimal improvement. I don't think this is matter of opinion, more of an inexperienced contributer attempting to add weak additions that will not improve an article. Obviously as Spike says discussion about improvements is fine, reverting contributers, especially ones who are a little more experienced here than you is not a great way to make friends. --Sycamore (Talk) 22:02, August 1, 2012 (UTC)
Zodiak article[edit source]
The Zodiak article was pretty good, yes. That's why most of the Zodiac section of the new Astrology article is essentially just a polished rewrite of it. I did that to consolidate all of the related articles everywhere into the one. -- 17:00, August 18, 2012 (UTC)
- I've answered more fully on the forum you created - Removing articles in this way is not really respectful to the contributers who wrote the articles, nor is it appropriate for one user to determine in this fashion.--Sycamore (Talk) 19:57, August 18, 2012 (UTC)
- OK. But you'll find I am amenable to the dynamic nature of things here myself, meaning I've never whined about the loss of something I liked that I did that the community didn't. And that's happened to me several times. This is to say at least I wasn't one of those hypocritical types, right? Though in the case of Zodiak, good intentions only toward both the original contributer and the effort to improve the UnCyc experience. -- 20:39, August 18, 2012 (UTC)

Sycamore is away in China I believe and cannot always log in for that reason (Uncyclopedia is a barred website in case the Chinese are driven to revolution by its content). Secondly, anyone can help you with your user page - I don't think it is necessary to be Scottish to do that. Thirdly, anyone who wants to be an Admin here...never gets it. - Given that Sycamore is probably by now in a windowless cell in the People's Republic, the self-evident answer is to broaden your call beyond fellow Scots.
