Imperial Colonization[edit source]
I tried to apply for the Imperial Colonization, but the page wont let me edit my name in, how do I apply?
- create an account
- wait 3 days
- although there is no restriction on adding to an existing colonization. I'd also point out common practice is to add topics to the end of the page. Not a problem, just makes it easier for the user to find new comments. Friday night cheers! Nominally Humane! some time Friday, 08:37, Nov 26 2010 UTC

Upsilon Sigma Sigma July Newsletter[edit | edit source]
Well guys, its been exactly 5 billion years since I last did a newsletter and I thought doing one would be a good way to get everyone back into the fold for August. Big things on the horizon for August for Upsilon Sigma Sigma.
First thing's first: Welcome to our newest brothers, Maniac1075 and Happymonkey39! Hopefully you guys will stick around and become regular contributors to our little project here!
Secondly, unfortunately there wasn't really a July collaboration. That's partly my fault from being absent most of the month because of work. The June collaboration, Taco, that got roughly finished and reviewed around mid-July will be our collaboration for both months. Go ahead and head on over to the collaboration page to vote on whether we send the article to mainspace or not and be sure to nominate an article for the que, also found on the collaboration page.
Third, some asshole (cough MadMax) redirected weird to odd, but bad news for him; we're doing weird as our collaboration for August anyways. This one is going to be epic guys, like Tim Burton epic. I'd like an 'all hands on deck' turnout for this one. We'll begin sometime around August 1 or second. I was thinking the approach for the article should be from the perspective of a high school misfit who's unaware how weird he is describing other kids as being weird. or something... Once the collaboration page is up and running we'll hash it out on the discussion page.
Lastly, and I know I constantly pound this, we all need to start doing requested articles individually. This is supposed to be a big part of USS, but our frat has morphed into mainly a collaboration group. Lets try and focus on those individual requested articles over the next few months.
Looking forward to ramping this thing back into gear with you guys in August!

UnDebate:Is it ever right to restrict freedom of speech? I was just looking at this, and noticed the top looks sorta pixellated. The images you used were gifs. Reuploading the files in png format would probably give a better result. I just thought I'd point that out. One of the reasons I went back to that article (besides it being a really great article) is that I've been thinking of making UnDebate a quasi-official namespace and maybe writing such an article myself. It sure has lots of potential. 22:04, 15 August 2010
- Agreed. Actually was going to convert it to an SVG. Went for GIF as I was playing with different file formats and JPG did an ugly thing with the way it dealt with the colour near the edges. I'd intended to do a follow up to this but never got round to it. Nominally Humane! some time Monday, 09:33, Aug 16 2010 UTC
- I should tell you though that Wikia often manages to screw up svg files. Like this which is supposed to look like this. 10:13, 16 August 2010
- I think that's more an issue with the svg in that case being a little screwy. Wikia can screw up images with the way it parses them, but the original file stays intact. I just downloaded that svg without parsing and it's still off. Besides, svg is actually very simple but also very powerful in it's simplicity. In this case we have a block of one colour and some very elementary shapes and text. Vector graphics is ideal for it. Nominally Humane! some time Monday, 22:22, Aug 16 2010 UTC

I made a template for the UnDebate header. Maybe there could be something more Uncyclopedia-related instead of "Mass Debate", but I'll leave it up to you to decide on any changes.

I was in after you today and fixed two typoes in the template. I thought you said click-inline was deprecated! And you know what? It still pulls up the descriptor page instead of starting the download.
The template no longer is flagged on calling pages as infinite recursion--but it is flagged as such on its own page, when it gets into the examples. I blame the final /noinclude. Spıke ¬ 21:55 12-Sep-10
- New phone is taking a little to get used to re typos. As for calling on itself, yep, it does, but that's minor issue. Click-online is deprecated but I was playing to see what could be done to go straight to d/l - and that made no difference. I could do this with steal external link, but I'm sure I've seen a work-around for this issue before. It's still a work in progress, Nominally Humane! some time Sunday, 22:14, Sep 12 2010 UTC
OK, I'll stop kibitzing until you're done. 22:15 PS--{{Listen}} gets it done with [[Media:

-- Same problem substituting graphics. Spıke ¬ 23:51 12-Sep-10
I lied. While you were out (cold), I changed {{LinkNarrated}} to piggyback off of {{InlineMedia}}. Never solved the graphics problem, but now you can click on "listen" and save a step. Spıke ¬ 01:29 13-Sep-10
Installed throughout my user page; works everywhere, such as Vulcan ( listen)--except it can't find the MP3 for There Isn't Any ( listen). Baffling. Spıke ¬ 23:43 13-Sep-10
- Okay - random stab in the dark but I'm assuing that we're looking at an external link being accessed somewhere along the line here. With the ext link we have slightly different formatting, so whereas www.whatever.com/Vulcan.mp3 is a valid link, www.whatever.com/There Isn't Any.mp3 wouldn't be one, however www.whatever.com/There_Isn%27t_Any.mp3 would be. I'm assuming that the spaces would be okay, but the special characters would be an issue (in this case '.) There is a magic word that fixes it but can't think of it off the top of head, but maybe if you use {{LinkNarrated|There_Isn%27t_Any|There Isn't Any}} at the moment it should do this: There Isn't Any ( listen) Nominally Humane! some time Tuesday, 05:29, Sep 14 2010 UTC
- Hey - I said it was a random stab. Nominally Humane! some time Tuesday, 05:35, Sep 14 2010 UTC
- Okay, I'm going to have aother stab at this, but it will mean a stripping down to almost nothing and building up again - which means it will take time. I'll play with this away from the template and test it fully and then change it over. Watch this space. Nominally Humane! some time Tuesday, 05:37, Sep 14 2010 UTC
Glad you agree it's baffling. I did try the percent-sign syntax. On my user page, adjacent to the failing use of There Isn't Any ( listen), I have a reference to the MP3 file via "filepath"--it can see the file. This has intermittently failed before, when I tried to link to the MP3 in articles featured on the UnNews Front Page. Spıke ¬ 14:42 15-Sep-10

We all miss you. Or some of us miss you. Or I miss you. Sometimes. When the moon is overrun by clouds and I get scared. So after buttering you up with how much we miss you, a favor. Could you pop in my page "Disguise" and see if there is some way to put the cyclone code onto the opening image of the Grocho Marx mask? The page is on VFH and Romartus asks if there is some way to avoid the image or click to make it go away, and I thought of Tropical cyclone. Thanks, appreciated. And come back when you get tired of the real world, it can eat you and spit you out, so beware of those things. Aleister 11:42 13 10
- looks like you've already worked a solution. Cyclone is done with a freaking big gif image, btw. All I'd do with the mask is give it pop in or out - similar to your eyes on Ghosty page. As for removal of it, there are a couple of neater solutions, but the way you have it works for me. Nominally Humane! some time Thursday, 01:31, Oct 14 2010 UTC

- Puppy, I also miss you. *hug*
- Aleister, I know, I know, it's horrible solution, but it's the best I could think of. And it's more likely the folks in charge of your web browsers are the ones who are allergic... to keeping up with industry standards. *shifty eyes* ~ *shifty eyes* (talk) (stalk) -- 20101014 - 01:43 (UTC)
- Issue with web browsers and animated gifs is generally a thing of the past. Wikipedia, however, likes to parse imagesz as they are put on the site, so that html would call on
<img url="mask.gif" width="200px">
, wikipedia decides that it works better as<img url="mask_200px.gif">
, which gives a very different result and can create frozen gifs of gifs that only partially shrink (of which I've only come across the one so far). My solution to that is to create the gif at the size I want it and don't allow wikipedia to manipulate it in that way when I call on it. - Wikipedia also works on a static page idea, so including active content is minimal. This means that if you want something to change on a page, you (usually) have to make it a link to reload the page. There are exception to this rule, and most of the stuff that I do is manipulating thise exceptions.
- Current solution - link to another page that has almost identical code but does not have the image being called on. Brute force method really, and limited in that if you change the text in one page you need to change it in the other. (I'm assuming slightly here.)
- Slight improvement - 3 pages - one which is your vanilla text with no image, the next calls on your vanilla text as though it were a template and adds the mask in there, the third does the same but doesn't add the mask. Means that changes can be done on the template page, and the other two will follow. Still a little messy - creating more pages then needed is against my code of ethics - but slightly better solution.
- Next option - using {{CGI}} to create the two pages but have the content shown rely on the offset value. This is the basis of the way Chatroulette works. Cleaner in that there is only one page in total, and in this case the if statements could be very simple, but still has the same problem as all the above - each time you want the mask to appear or disappear the page needs to be reloaded.
- So on to the two options that don't require reload of content. First is the classic sighidden option. The cursor moves over a particular block and the mask appears, moves away and it disappears. This is what created the waving finger effect in Alone in the dark. Means that the mask starts off as hidden, but then shows when you roll cursor over - which is probably the opposite of the effect you want. What you can do alternatively is have the text as a hidden element that is the width of the usuable area, and have the mask as the sigexpand. Means that you start off with just the mask, roll cursor over and mask disappears and text appears, and then as long as cursor stays on the text the mask stays hidden. Problem is that sighidden does not have cross-browser continuity, and I've had some really odd things happen with sighidden stuff. AITD has been tested on chrome, ie v6 onwards, ffv2 onwards, opera, opera lite, safari for windows, and so far I've managed to clean up all the cross browser bugs I could find, so it should give a similar experience no matter what browser you use. I'm not promising that it will, though - especially if the end user has style sheets being used.
- The other trick, which I have not had any issues relating to cross browser support is the show/hide thingy. This is what was used for the inventory menu in AITD. If I was going to go through and code this I'd probably take this option, but it does do that odd thing where it says "hide" first and then you have to click on it twice. I never could quite work out why it did it that way, but it did. I think this can be set up so that the mask is initially shown, and then you click hide to remove it, but I'd have to go back and really delve into the code to check.
- But as I said, I'm happy with it the way it is, and don't really see a need to change it. Nominally Humane! some time Thursday, 02:25, Oct 14 2010 UTC
- Mleh... the show/hide thing was what I wanted to do, but I ran into this strange issue in which... apparently the stuffs required for it ain't installed on this wiki? There is no show/hide anymore on the thing you linked, either, is there? I don't see any, at least, nor on any other such thing. At least, not that works. ~ *shifty eyes* (talk) (stalk) -- 20101014 - 02:39 (UTC)

Upsilon Sigma Sigma October Newsletter[edit source]
Ok guys, my bad. I was gone for a long time there. I found some free time recently so I'm hoping to get Upsilon Sigma Sigma started up again along with my other project, UnReviews.
At any rate, We're going to keep Weird, the August collaboration open. We're also going to go ahead and open up a November collaboration. The article on the queue that has the most votes is "Blockbuster" so that's the one we're going to do. You can find the collaboration page here. I'm probably going to disappear again because of school in a few weeks, so hopefully we can build up enough momentum here to keep our collaborations going. If you haven't noticed our previous collaborations have been huge hits, all have been featured on the front page. Hopefully "Weird" and "Blockbuster" will too in their own due time.
Looking forward to seeing you guys around the frat!
P.S. we have a FBotM nomination this month, make sure you go vote!

It seems HappyTimes has been kidnapped or left or ran off with a Russian woman. So on Imperial Colonization business, Magic man has been asking to be let on board for awhile, and he would be a good colonizer who could learn the ropes quickly. Implicit removal of consecutive blank lines[edit source]
This morning I've mixed it up with Aleister in Chains because, on making a minor edit to his user page, the consecutive blank lines (consecutive pressings of the Enter key) he was using to specify blank vertical space on the page, to the extent they exceeded 2, were implicitly removed, apparently by Java code activated on my PC when I pressed Save page. Details on User talk:SPIKE section 46. Is this well-known? Is it a bug? Is it switchable? Thanks. Spıke ¬ 18:44 12-Dec-10
- Buggered if I know. I try to avoid blank lines for spacing due to W3C specs frowning on whitespace inclusions and forcing coders to get a bit more creative about layout. Standard trick for this would be to use a spacer to create gaps as it stops this sort of thing happening. Something like the following:
{{-}}
Which is a spacer stuck between a couple of clearalls. Probably not the answer you were after, but it's a little related. Which reminds me I do have to let Al know about the easier way to do a clearall. Nominally Humane! some time Tuesday, 11:48, Dec 14 2010 UTC
[[file:spacer.gif|xpx|link=]]
{{-}}
- Thanks. I stumbled on clearalls a few months ago (as in Mustaches of Legend) and they are marvelous for letting you code your intentions and not some number of pixels that is likely to be wrong on other people's screens. MediaWiki, however, seems to reward the use of extra carriage returns by giving you a half-line of blank space; there is just that one gremlin in the Java code fighting you when you take advantage of it. Spıke ¬ 12:23 14-Dec-10
Alternative is of course classic br, or spacer at 1em (to get around possible font v dpi issue) that's center aligned. Or of course div with height specified with a nbsp, but I've had odd issues with opera and safari with that in the past. Nominally Humane! some time Tuesday, 12:42, Dec 14 2010 UTC

Chatroulette and other chats[edit source]
Just looked in on chatroulette and I all I got were black screens where the pics go. Maybe just my computer, maybe something else. Wanted to give you a heads up, or give you head, one of the two. And we have three colonizations which could be slightly reworked and vfh'ed (Discordianism, Science Fiction, and Dinosaur), whatdoyathink? Maybe next time I log on I'll concentrate on editing those three, and if you take another sweep, and a few others do some good mending/adding, Colonization would get the backlog of "those are good pages!" out of the way. But that's for later, food calls me from the screen now, and I must answer. Aleister 14:27 5 1 '11
- Charoulette seems fine. Starts off black until you hit "New game". Dinosaur and SciFi are both on my things to do list, discordianism I don't think I could improve on any further. But Dinosaur is actually not that far from VFH. Sci Fi still needs a little more judicious pruning though. Nominally Humane! some time Wednesday, 22:47, Jan 5 2011 UTC

Things. I seriously feel very humbled by your vote on woty. Thank you. When I got here as a noob yesterday or so I was most impressed at first by your Microsoft Knowledge Base, was amazed at the coding, and linked it to all my early pages. Then following your putting Buffy on the top of my talk page, I studied your coding bit by bit. Can never get close to what you do with coding, and your creativity and friendliness have been one of my guides here. Thanks again. And I actually took off the first layer of air pops, wasn't going to go to the next layer when it came up anew, she wasn't enticing enough. Way up there, maybe time to play Discordianism up for VFH again, I think the present version (at least last time I looked, long ago) may do it. Haven't glanced at Dinosaur in awhile. Sci fi, we may disagree on what to prune but that is the joy, and sadness, of collabs. Thanks again. Aleister 3:14 Uncy's 6th anniversary plus 3 days (my new sig you asked for!!!)

Through a haze of lemurs...[edit source]
Or... wait. No, um...
Sorry, I came here to ask... could you, by any chance, explain how to create games nowadays to CEDA? It keeps making them, might benefit from the knowledge, or at very least stop making new subpages... so could you please try? ~ 02:45, 11 January 2011

Grueslayer Game[edit source]
If you are wondering how many locations I added to the Grueslayer, I have only created three new locations in the Grueslayer game:
- 1. Added Slums to Las Vegas
- 2. Fictional European Communist Nation of Norania
- 3. Town of Pignerol
I created no new weapons or items the player didn't immediately lose afterwards.
Be aware that all of these locations I named come from red links in the Grueslayer game. I created them, but used red links to do so, because I can't stand red links. All of the pages I have created so far involve side missions, stuff that winds you around and around with more chances of dying than anything else. Once you get through the twisting side mission, you are returned or advanced to a location in the main game.
Is there anything wrong with the number of pages in Grueslayer? I like having a lot of pages, even if some of them don't have much content. It makes the game look...complete.
--CEDA 14:23, January 11, 2011 (UTC)
- No issue with having a lot of content, but there is an issue with lots of pages - it makes it a nightmare to maintain. And what I'm thinking of will keep all the current content, but make it neater coding and, hopefully, much more playable. Also part of what I would like to do is seperate location from action and inventory. If you pick up a ticket stub in the game you can hold onto it for the entire game without it affecting anything else, but if you get a key for a door that you won't use until you've gone through another 50 pages or so then you have the key. YMSCIHMF[edit source]
If you have twenty minutes (for you, maybe 20 seconds, but bill for the minutes) and feel generous, a flavor please. First read or skim or skip Snow Angels. Then, near the bottom, is a link to another page Snow Angels/Wally (or just go there, duh). On that page is a video of the King of Hell singing. Is there some way to separate the devil image from YMSCIHMF, just the devil cut out with no background, so I could line up about three of them in front of the YouTube vid as if they're watching and listening to the guy sing. If there was someway of even overlapping one of two of their heads over the bottom of the video, heaven! (or in this case, hell). Any other ideas for transforming the page into a stage in hell? Thanks for all the triceratops. Aleister 2:47 15 1 '11
- I don't have the source images any more, and I don't have the time to recreate the devil one. What I did though was look for images of a man's back, and then played with the colour balance to make him red, found a picture of rams horns, and then stuck them on his head, and then blurred it in together while also blurring it all - hence the reason why he's blurry in foreground, background is a little blurry, and focus is on pregnant Helena. Lyr would be my go to for a remake of the image - in fact she would do it better than my rush job. I'd also look at doing it as a png or a gif to get the transparency - PNG is ideal for the semi-transparent aspect, even if it doesn't have full browser support. Maybe an image of people in an audience from behind would be a better starting point. If popcorn could be included in the image even better. Then it's just a matter of two containing divs - one for the video itself as a "position: relative" and a second one "position: absolute; background: none; bottom: 0px" or maybe even negative px to extend it below the video itself, and a spacer.gif to get everything in line nicely, and follow it all with a lovely {{-}} to tidy up any floating hangovers, if there are any. Hope that makes sense, and sorry I don't have the time to do much more. Nominally Humane! some time Saturday, 03:52, Jan 15 2011 UTC
- Clean up watermarks, remove the screen and make it transparent there, and inn a few horns and a trident or two, maybe a forked tail somewhere? Easy option, not photo realistic but good starting point. Nominally Humane! some time Saturday, 04:01, Jan 15 2011 UTC

I didn't understand a word you said, but the sound of it was like a song echoing in a green green valley. I'll study this, and ask Lyrth. So you did create the devil image from piecemeals. Nice work. - p.s. Whoo, just saw the screen (I added the above after an edit conflict). I don't know what it is, or how to work it, but it seems useable for someone who does. Thanks again!
- p.s.s. One of the main problems for overlaps on this youtube is that the "lyrics" are printed on the bottom as the song progresses, and that is a third or so of the funny, maybe more. So any overlap would, hopefully, avoid the section of the screen with the lyrics. And congrats on the fine work you're are doing on the gaming rooms of Uncy.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do, but the header text should either be inside a <h2> tag or a pair of equal signs. I believe it might be possible to find their locations with the #pos stringFunction, and then you could just use the first x character fetch you described earlier with whatever pops out.
Hope this helps (or has anything to do with what you meant!) -Airhogs777 04:53, January 15, 2011 (UTC)

- Gorgeous is one way to describe it, but I still think it's a hack. Other than creating a better game engine is the opportunity to learn a little more code, and it uses a bit of dynamic parsing, which wikimedia significantly restricts. About a year ago I asked my go to guy for coding for help on designing dynamic pages, and he said it couldn't be done. I still can't do textbox input, but every trick like this I learn is another step towards more dynamic content. Basically, if we think of uncyclopedia as open mic night at the local comedy club, then I'm introducing the aspect of audience participation. Yes, I would like to have SWzork as a userspace game, IF it is going into ICU, where it will certainly be Huffed.
Also, is there a limit to how many Userspaces You can make? I would like to know. Thank you for telling me as this is one of my favourite uncyclopedia Games! (Under 2012 and Zork Unleashed, also if that is going into ICU I would prefer that =) - Another n00b 16:46, January 18, 2011 (UTC)
- No limit to number of Userspace pages, but I'm actually in the process of condensing the game namespace. Could I suggest that you check out Game:Castle and Forum:The Game namespace needs help as they both will show you how you can condense this into just a couple of pages? Yes, I can. Also don't move it yet - I'll create a couple of userpages for you to get the move started, and then I'll let you finish it, and once that's done we can Qvfd the originals. Also I've offered Unleashed to someone else as they were the last editors. Discuss it with them first, and let me know the outcome and we'll take the next step from there. Having said all that, I am trying to kill any text based adventure game that we have, as there is no need to have quite so many look-alike games. I know I'm nitpicking - but I'm trying to do the same every year, keep some element of surprise when the actual top 10 are featured in the beginning of February for those who don't bother making the calculation etc etc etc. Do you want the code back? - Forget it, I'm nitpicking. I've restored the pages. ~ 22:05, January 18, 2011 (UTC)
- It's all good. I was doing it to play with code to be honest, but I'm happy for you to kill that page. Most of the code is in a template anyway. I just remember last year was an annoyance to try and tabulate votes properly. What I would suggest though is that maybe we'd be better off removing the {{Score}} from these anyway - people could of course still work out what article has what score, but not as easily. If you were wanting to keep it really quiet though we could seperate these so that the headers showed up on this page, and people had a "Vote here" button that... actually, this is more an idea for later votes, but keeping the voting open but not obvious would actually keep more of an element of surprise, and reduce the potential of voting via bandwagon, instead voting on merit. Hmmm... I have thoughts. Nominally Humane! some time Tuesday, 22:33, Jan 18 2011 UTC

Oy, you know javascript, right?[edit source]
Could you fix this? It doesn't handle character encodings right. Apparently the other one didn't, either, but Spang fixed that one, or something... although for all I know, it had something else wrong with it that he fixed... anyway, can you figure it out? ~ 01:50, 20 January 2011
- Probably, but it'd take me a while to get done to it what I would need to get done to it. I'm assuming that is an auto send to bp script. Nominally Humane! some time Thursday, 02:16, Jan 20 2011 UTC
- Mhm. Problem seems to be that it pulls the usernames from the pagename and they come out full of url code, which gets even more borked when it fed back into the url with the {{user}} template, since it rebuilds the urls...
- But the qvfd one does something very similar but without any borking, so... eh. If you could figure out how to fix it, it'd be wonderful, really.
And could you be a dear deliver the UnSignpost? ~ 04:11, 20 January 2011
- argh! At work so won't be able to deliver today. Sorry!
- re the code - it is obviously grabbing username from the URL not the title. Shouldn't be too hard to parse it back, but just been an unproductive day for me today. Spent too much if it doing housework. Nominally Humane! some time Thursday, 04:50, Jan 20 2011 UTC
- Eh, worth a try... I'll take care of it, then, assuming Chief doesn't ban me first. If he does, he can do it himself. *shifty eyes*
- And of course, to you the code would be as clear as night... I'll just stand back and let an actual master of the stuff deal with it, then... whenever he gets the chance. Not like there's any rush; the stuff wrong with it has been wrong with it for as long as it has been around, I think. >.< Anyhow, thanks... for whatever you wind up doing. And for even looking, for that matter. ~ 05:10, 20 January 2011
- Long story short - can fix script, but it will take a little while. I need to find some of the scripting which is hosted on another page, and I can't access it via my mobile. In the meantime I'm working out the kinks in the delivery script, so it will work a bit smoother. Watch this space! Nominally Humane! some time Saturday, 00:29, Jan 22 2011 UTC
- *hugs PotR*
- And of course I'll be watching... I'm a creepy stalker girl, remember?
- Also, thank you again, and the delivery script is nice, too... could you turn it into a separate page that we can all just include if we want to use it, and possibly change it ever so slightly so that instead of being on the signup page, it's on the page of the issue we want to deliver, and just do it from there, and it gets which one to deliver that way? Maybe add a non-included token of some sort to future issues so it knows that those are deliverable (so the tab appears)... would that work? And maybe have a pop-up for the section titles... *kitty eyes* Feel free to ignore this, but admit it... that'd be cool! ~ 00:37, 22 January 2011
- I have ideas. Issues have been getting the date right, multiple deliveries, and also it has been taking the pages off the watchlist if they have been on there in the past. That last issue I'm not too sure what to do with - may have to default it to be on WL. And I will make the script a touch more accessible once I have the kinks ironed out. Nominally Humane! some time Saturday, 01:40, Jan 22 2011 UTC
- The last one, could it default to the user's default? Anyhow, yay. *beams* ~ 01:43, 22 January 2011
- Ideally, but it would involve a fussy bit of scripting to work out if they are currently on WL. I think I have a solution for it though. Nominally Humane! some time Saturday, 01:59, Jan 22 2011 UTC

Just saying[edit source]
Hello. I see you are intent on adding video onto the main page of 2012: The Game. I am sorry to say, but it looks like shit, like some sort of Sega CD game, and secondly, it doesn't fit with the rest of the game. Imagine if you where playing the real original Zork game and it started up with a dramatic movie, only to then take you to the text-Based game it really is. The quality is so bad it looks like it was pirated from the film.
I am just criticising your decision. The original title was better as it was more realistic. - Another n00b 19:24, January 20, 2011 (UTC)
- You're working on the assumption the the remainder of the game will remain as a purely text-based format. If I was playing the original Kroz, or Castle adventure, then I'd expect it to remain text based. If I was playing Zork or Castle, I'd expect it to remain text-based as a spork of these games. If I was playing a game called 2012 and it was created in 2011, and it was pure text-based, I'd think the creators were on crack. Especially if they had a full colour intro image and no other graphics within the game. In short, game is sub-par, especially when compared to Oliver Twist, Alone in the dark, and Zork. Where are the images? Where is the depth of plot? Where is the parody? Beyond shock comedy and toilet humour, where are the laughs? This is above Qvfd, but still not above a 25 on Pee review, especially as you would get no score on images, there are still huge formatting and spelling issues so it would fall below 5 on layout, no real laughs so I'd give it a 3 on humour, concept is sketchy at best so maybe a 4 or 5 there, and as it is a derivative, clunky, out of date, dull text based adventure, probably a 3 on miscellaneous. So a 16 - 20 overall. PEE review guidelines would suggest it's a VFD/NRV/Rewrite at best. I've been working on the assumption that you are trying to save the game, hence the fact that I was putting effort into it to try and redeem it. If you feel that the gif image - a limited format so impossible to get to photo-realistic quality, and given we have no other video format that is natively supported - is not going to work within the game, then I'm happy for you to remove it, and I'll just add this one to my list of unredeemable games, that will eventually be destroyed while I go through and work on redeeming the overall quality if a namespace that has, on mire than one occasion, been suggested that we are best off culling the entire space, and even less radical, having a FF week that this game, as it currently stands, would not survive. Oh, and please, please read HTBFANJS before trying to foist any more crufty games out there.
- (And if any of this hurts, understand that until now I have been trying to protect your feelings, while improving the overall site. If it comes to a choice between your feelings and the site's quality, the site wins 9 times out of 8.) Nominally Humane! some time Thursday, 21:22, Jan 20 2011 UTC
Thank you for your explanation on the game's problems. I will just wait for it's unavoidable death, as clearly that's what everyone else wants, so fair enough. I tried adding more pages to expand and make it feel more like an actual text game, but I know it's no Zork. I've got other interests now, so I won't be on Uncyclopedia as much. - Another n00b 08:13, January 21, 2011 (UTC)
- Actually the problem is that it is another Zork. It's like you have seen a stand up comic who has perfected his routine over a 20 year career, and then you repeat his jokes the next day at work. It's amusing, but not the same. Now assume that everyone you are telling the jokes to also saw the original act - how much weaker dies that make your rendition. That is the reason why I am so anti text based adventures on here. I love the originals, but the copies never quite work. Nominally Humane! some time Friday, 10:44, Jan 21 2011 UTC

- I have another idea. I will create this, I'll copy the original article and you will create that background in my user page article. --~ 20:36, January 26, 2011 (UTC)
- Chill. It's not that I'm ignoring the request, just that I am really busy. I work 10 hours a day, so my Uncyc time is limited. I haven't even had the time to look at the issue with PEE review, or what the latest wikia update has done to the games namespace and the work I've been doing there. I've managed to clean up a few issues, but everything takes time.
- but...the beers? --~ 20:19, January 26, 2011 (UTC)
- As for the changing of the background to add colour to the article, quick solution is to have blocks of static colour like this. Otherwise you can look at using animated gif to create a changing colour background.
- That solution would work something like this. Now this image does make it difficult to read the text here, so you'd be better off looking for something a little less ugly, but also has the whole changing colour in a very hippy fashion. I don't have any images available at hand, hence the reason I've used this one, but it gives you the idea. I would also look for something that is tillable as well, as that would mean that you could tweak this code to be able to have it cover the background of the entire page. If you can come up with a suitable background image I can do the coding for it fairly quickly, but I don't have the time to create the image at present. I have an idea...[edit source]
How about you add File:2012.gif to This to advertise the game? - Another n00b 15:29, January 28, 2011 (UTC)
- It's an idea, but I'm still inclined to chop it down to just the title and get rid of the storm, the pyramid and the space scene all together. And the game would need to be condensed before I go through and do anything to promote it. Nominally Humane! some time
Condense it, Condensing games is good, as it cuts down the amount of pages needed, so all those "Horrible" text adventures are out of everyone's way so we can leave them alone (Unless there REALLY bad). Mass-Deletion of perfectly fine Text adventures is bad. ಠ_ಠ - Another n00b 21:53, January 28, 2011 (UTC)
- Time is not a friend of mine, so I haven't had a achance to condense it yet. I've been targetting incomplete games (by which I mean games with lots of redlinks and ones that have had a construction tag on there for over 3 months). I have tried to throw a few of them on VFD to see of anyone wants to take them on, and a couple have had more work done to them, but still need work. I am thinking that I'll eventually gave to do a script to speed the condensing process up, bit time to create script to save time I don't have is still an issue. I did the forum and also made a pretty scratchy tutorial on how I do condense them, but the latest Wikia update means there's more work to be done to accommodate their "enhancements". I still feel that Wikimedia doesn't work as well for text adventures as it does for point and click, but given Uncyc is really prose based there is a fine line between text adventure and interactive prose. (God's answering service is what I would call interactive prose.) Time, time, time. Nominally Humane! some time 22:55, January 28, 2011 (UTC)

Work is already starting for the new promising sequel to 2012; 2012 II: The Ghosts of the Aztecs. I made a flash movie intro for the game and there will be a lot of flash included in the game. How do you upload a flash video? -- Go Crazy 00:23, February 1, 2011 (UTC)
- Never done it myself, but I can have a lookie. Sunny Chow might be a better one to ask though, assuming he's around. Nominally Humane! some time
- apparently we can't upload directly to site, but we can embed from external. Check out Flash thing here. Nominally Humane! some time
2012 II is starting out nice! Check it out! -- Go Crazy 01:27, February 1, 2011 (UTC)

G'day fancy a pint of Fosters and a go on that slut from Hobart?[edit source]
Hey Puppy, just popping to let you know that it's your time to shine as the articles are all locked up and ready for judging. Your are best alt-namespace category and you put your results here. Good luck:)--Sycamore (Talk) 10:02, February 1, 2011 (UTC)
- Already started the reviews. There are a few more entries than I was expecting so it will take a little time. Nominally Humane! some time
- And you really want to avoid sluts from Hobart. Inbreeders, the lot of them. Nominally Humane! some time
ICU usage[edit source]
Pup, I've noticed you placed several ICU tags on games, that have been around for quite some time. I think you know (or should know) that ICU are meant for new articles (up to about 2 days old) and the rest goes via VFD. Can you do that in the future? ~ 16:33, February 1, 2011 (UTC)
- Wasn't that Chief's idea, to ICU the games, though? ~ 17:09, 1 February 2011
- It was mentioned in a forum a little while back, but I honestly don't know who was responsible for first coming up with the idea. Either way, message rec'd and understood. Nominally Humane! some time 20:15, February 1, 2011 (UTC)
Stuff[edit source]
I like how you said that up there, message rec'd and understood, with the little comma thing in between the c and d. The rec'd and understood part. I have a thank you thing set up on my user page for everyone, esp. those who vote for me or wanted a tie, which I did. Now I think a mistake was made in the counting, as you never voted for me for the award but voted for me to change my signature, rememb'er? But a number got added somehow, and it kept getting counted as the contest proceeded. Sog had 12, and without your vote I had 12. What a mix-up. And congrats on the Potatochopper award, it could easily have been for the year as well. Thanks, Aleister 00:05 2-2-'11
- Not fussed about either. Nice to be nomad, and nicer to win, and I was torn between yourself and sog, and the only reason I avoided voting for him was because I'm usually too lazy to vote on anything. As far as I'm concerned you're both fantastic, in different ways, and the deciding factor between the two of you is not the quality of work but the preferred sense of humour of the voters. As you said, any nominee had the right stuff o be a winner. Nominally Humane! some time
- But Puppy, you didn't vote for me either. You voted for me to chang my signature. Right? So Sog and I tied, because your vote was somehow counted but really didn't count. Even though you may have thought you voted for me, you didn't. Thanks for the thought, but this way two people win. Aleister 1:48 3-2-'11
- Hell, I didn't really vote for anyone - just had a subtle dig at you for the ever changing sig - which is something of course I would never do. Yep - looking at the scores it definitely does look like it was a tied vote. Sorry but it looks as though you'll have to share the limelight with your Soggy counterpart. I know how much that must upset you, so sorry if my non-vote got your hopes up and my admission that I didn't actually vote for you has crushed them again. Nominally Humane! some time 02:27, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, damn. Oh, well. Two heads are better than one (as my dear old ma would say as me and Dad drilled her). Why don't you go alert Mordillo or some power that be and correct this travesty of idol worship that has beset me and me alone, when it should rightfully be shared with Sog. And with ma, who I fear is feeling a little neglected. I must pay her a visit (now where did I put my fancy condom, that one in the shape of Moe Howard?) Aleister 3:52 3-2-'11
- Your mother was also a fan of three-way action, obviously, which does make her a figure worthy of respect. I've said something on Chief's page, so I'll leave it at that for the moment. Nominally Humane! some time 04:23, February 3, 2011 (UTC)

What about[edit source]
Ogg vorblis or whatever it was? Wait, were you the guy asking about uploading videos, or was that someone else? ~ 03:44, 3 February 2011
- I have previously. I was looking for video that launched without prompt, or a way to play sound files without prompt. I haven't played with off much yet as, to be honest, I had very little luck with them about a year ago, but that may have been due to either dodgy converters on my end or browser compatibility, as I don't know how many browsers have native support. iPhone safari doesn't support flash properly, and is also funny with YouTube vids, so that has been put on the backburner for now. Someone did ask me about uploading mpg videos recently, and I advised it couldn't be done, but they can be uploaded off site and possibly transcluded, but again I haven't gotten around to experimenting for myself yet. I've asked around to people when I've had half solutions for a few of these, but as of yet wikimedia doesn't natively support much in regards to video or music. I doubt that this is a situation that is likely to change quickly, but at least I'm able to get partial solutions. Animated png looks promising though, as it will allow me to use a larger palette than animated gif. Nominally Humane! some time 04:32, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
- Well, Wikia has an extension installed for something about ogg support, whatever that mean. Worth a mention, I figured. Mind, animated pngs are even less supported than... well, most of the widely unsupported stuff. Alas. ~ 05:03, 3 February 2011
- Wiki yes, but browser not so much. Wiki doesn't cover apng, as far as I know, but some browsers natively do. Nominally Humane! some time 05:55, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
- Well, if you do find something that consistently works, let me know so I can be sure to disable it. Videos and motion in general are horribly annoying. ~ 06:13, 3 February 2011

- In the right place it works. Aitd uses a lot of animated gifs throughout, and as part of that it works. In most cases though, I'm inclined to agree. It's like blinky text or marquee - I've had purposes to use both, but normally would avoid them like the plague. Nominally Humane! some time 08:14, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
THIEF!!!!!!![edit source]
I can't believe you would take advantage of my user page being licensed under the CC-BY-NC-SA for your own personal gain!!!!!!! I also can't believe that you're not an admin.... BTW, I appreciate having an effect on a GUN's user page like yours. Anyway, I'll sue you, you'll get a fair trial, I'll lose, and I'll hunt you down. —
07:40, February 3, 2011 (UTC)- I was almost going to make a template of it - I was very impressed by it. And I didn't steal - I reverse engineered - the fact that the code is identical is pure coincidence! Nominally Humane! some time 08:14, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
- What about that could possibly be impressive? The fact that I was willing to go through months of VFS revisions to figure out it's true potential, or the greenish color? -A777 on an iPad
- The fact that a one-liner like that made me lol, and that since this conversation started Socky has also appropriated it for his talk page. Nominally Humane! some time 01:59, February 4, 2011 (UTC)

This might interest you. Aleister put in a more proper explanation than my poorly-thought-out prank, at least. ~ 17:28, 3 February 2011
- I've already been keeping an eye on that, and given the conversation held of Chief's page, which Mordillo I'm sure has also read, your subtle nod to it here, and Al's explanation, and the conversation above, I didn't think there was much I could add. - The attempt to rectify this UnJustice seems to have ended badly. I really wish it had worked, and Mordillo is a guy who can't believe his lying eyes and rolls in a poopy-blanket, that's what he is. Aleister 13:12 4-2-'11
- Soggy has been hot contender for 5.5 years and WotY 2 years running. Despite the fact the I did adjust the score once, it simply means that Soggy has to keep up the fantastic output for another 12 months in order to reach WotY next year. If his near winning status encourages him to continue to produce quality at the rate he has done for the last couple of years, there is no way I can feel bad about the outcome.
