Welcome![edit source]

Hello, JamesSomething, and welcome to Uncyclopedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If not, the door's right over there... no, a little more to your left... yeah. Anyway, here are a few good links for people like you:

If you read anything at all, make it the above three links. If you want to find out more about Uncyclopedia or need more help with something, try these:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being an Uncyclopedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or use the "sign" button (Button sig.png) above the edit box. This will automatically produce your name and the date.

At Uncyclopedia, writing articles is not a requirement, but it certainly is a fun and easy way to express your creativity. To write an article, it's recommended that you start it in your userspace (for example, User:JamesSomething/Article about stuff) so you can edit it at your leisure. If you decide to create it in the cold world of mainspace, make sure it is in accordance with the policies laid out above, and if you're not done put the "Work-In-Progress" template - {{construction}} - onto it as well.

If the current colonization doesn't suit your fancy, then browse our rewrite and idea categories. We have lots of articles just sitting around for someone to improve, so don't be afraid - dive right in!

If you need help, ask me on my talk page, ask at the Dump, or ask an administrator on their talk page. Additionally, the Uncyclopedian Adopt-a-Noob program is there to bring experienced editors straight to you. Simply leave a message on an adopter's talkpage to join. Again, welcome!  Talk Mattsnow 21:09, December 7, 2011 (UTC)

Mithraism[edit source]

Since you appear to have taken an interest in this article, can you improve it? I needs to be a lot more coherent and perhaps more focused on the subject rather than riffing off elsewhere. Just an idea. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 11:33, December 24, 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I am somewhat familiar with the subject and am trying to improve it **per our policies**. But I am new to this sort of thing and will do it slowly. I agree there is lot of unnecessary clutter in the article at present. We will need to right-screw it to be funny. Since you have more experience with this kind of thing, I would be hoping to get some guidance and would be glad to be corrected... I am also trying to read up on some of the "better" articles to get a hang of doing it. It might help if you could show me some of our "finest" articles. :-)--JamesSomething 17:46, December 24, 2011 (UTC)
About the only thing that makes Mithraism interesting/important is the controversy surrounding the relationship of Mithraism with the origins of Xianity. The way I am writing it assumes that the reader will have some knowledge of this controversy. Perhaps, I need to find some way of making it clearer to the reader --within the article-- to make the intended pun more obvious?--JamesSomething 17:57, December 24, 2011 (UTC)
You're doing a good job man, nice to see new talent around the place! Our "best of" can be seen here, if that helps. --Black Flamingo 18:14, December 24, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the encouragement and the link. Going through those articles should get me into the right mindframe. They sure look interesting articles...:-)--JamesSomething 19:05, December 24, 2011 (UTC)
If you put something on your user page, your red sig will magically turn blue. Also I notice there is another user Kalidosa working on the article. Perhaps you two should collaborate on this one? --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 10:48, December 27, 2011 (UTC)
I have put in some stuff on the user page. Will add more later :-) I too have noticed the other user there. I like their work. I think we should be able to take a liking for each other :-) Thanks for the tips...JamesSomething 11:20, December 27, 2011 (UTC)
If you add a sig too by creating a signature page i.e. JamesSomething/sig people then click to go direct your talk page. If you want to see other users signature page you can go to , for example Romartus/sig and see mine. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 11:25, December 27, 2011 (UTC)

Got to improve my markup though... Will put in some jazz in it when I get around to doing it.:-)JSomethingBLAH BLAH 12:20, December 27, 2011 (UTC)

Hi James, Yes, well, we evidently do have common interests, not only in the general topic but in authors like Cumont, Vermaseren etc and websites that discuss them. Glad you found the article nice enough to tweak. It probably did need to say more about Mithraism and Xty. Putting a signature into the box at the top was a good idea, and I can see the thinking behind "Rager (Idiot) Pissed". Except that it expresses someone else's view of him, rather than the character's view of himself. I thought perhaps something a little more Latinate... Kalidosa 18:26, December 27, 2011 (UTC)

Kalidosa, if you add something on your user page, your sig will go from red to blue. It is then a lot easier to click on to your talk page. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 18:41, December 27, 2011 (UTC)
JamesSomething. Your sig isn't linking to your talk page (BLAH BLAH). --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 18:42, December 27, 2011 (UTC)
HOOOOOO!!! "Rager Maximus" is way too grand. Other folks are getting moronized and trollized. This won't do. We need to put some "decorations" on Rager too. This is uncyclopedia and it comes with the territory here...JSomethingBLAH BLAH 10:34, December 28, 2011 (UTC)
I wonder what Rager Maximus would say about this? Perhaps he might begin with a quote from this encyclopedia's Holy Scripture...
"Write in a Consistent Style. Uncyclopedia uses a lot of different styles. Some articles read as if they're been written by a college professor, many sound like they're written by a mentally challenged 13-year-old, and most of the... well, it's not entirely clear that these were written by something with opposable thumbs and no fingers. However it usually works best to write a single article in a single style. That is, you would read it and assume a single person wrote it. It should not read like paragraph 1 is the work of a five year old girl, paragraph 2 is the work of a crotchety old man, and paragraph 3 resulted from a collaboration by an epileptic goat, a squid with Alzheimer's, and an emo kid. There are exceptions (say, writing on multiple personality disorder) but quality articles usually follow this rule."
This is the point. What I was trying to do with the Mithraism article, was to present it almost entirely in the style of this character we call "Rager".
I did put in a few words by another character, such as "What about the name Mithras? You can't tell me the Romans invented that." But then I had Rager crossing them out, and adding comments like "troll" and "moron", because that's exactly the sort of thing Rager would do...
I didn't want to begin by giving the readers a list of Rager's faults, because that would not be Rager's style, even though I might tend to agree with you that he does have at least one or two very minor faults...
Does this make any sense to you, James?
(Comment by Rager: Really, Kalidosa, what do you mean I have faults? I'm honestly getting somewhat tired of all this!) Kalidosa 01:44, December 29, 2011 (UTC)

I have tried fixing my signature. It still does not seem to work on this page. But I think it is working on other pages.JSomethingBLAH BLAH 10:34, December 28, 2011 (UTC)

Hello, and stuff and such[edit source]

Hi, and keep up the work. I saw your edit on the wikipedia article, and want to remind you that we do sarcasm and satire here, so upping the number of users on wikipedia is legit. It's kind of like your Mithra page, saying that it was set up in the third century when it was actually bumping around just a few years after they strung Jesus up on his wood. Accuracy is fine, and I go for accuracy more than I care to admit (don't tell anyone, they may kick me out of here again, I've been banned so many times that my own mother became an admin just to ban me), but inaccuracy to make a point or a joke is part of the fun. Mitra bless you and your work here. Aleister 12:20 30-12-'11

Okie Dokie :-) JSomethingHonk!!! 12:23, December 30, 2011 (UTC)
You didn't have to put up all those redirects to Mithraism as that is a bit like closing off a number of pages. If another writer comes here with their own take on Mithriasm (for example, Mithriasm and Ham), as long as it is well enough written, shows some sense of humour etc then It should stay. I will remove them for now. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 12:59, December 30, 2011 (UTC)
I have kept some of the redirects like Mithraic Mysteries and other ones that would probably be very similar if someone wanted to write an article on the same subject. I have removed all the comparison articles (Christianity/Jesus and Mithriasm) as that is too broad a field. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 13:16, December 30, 2011 (UTC)
I had no intention of closing off any potential articles that anyone might have wanted to write. My impression was that if anyone wants to write an article on a subject whose title is occupied by a redirect, they simply turn the redirect into an article. I had created those redirects because presently we do not have articles on those subjects and this article seemed to be closest to what the reader might have wanted to find. Having more redirects generally means more hits on the search engines and more readership. Anyway, I am OK with deleting the redirects which appear to be unnecessary.JSomethingHonk!!! 16:25, December 30, 2011 (UTC)
