Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba[1] (Japanese: ジョジョの奇妙な冒険) is a Japanese anime and manga series by Koyoharu Gotouge, serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shounen Jump from 2016-2020. It is about some kid named Tanjiro Kamado who wants vengeance from Michael Jackson after he killed his family and turned his sister into a succubus.

It was adapted into an anime in 2019. In 2020, a follow-up movie, titled Train to Muzan was released, and a second season was released in 2021, making it the 69 trillionth anime to have more seasons than No Game No Life. A third season was announced in 2022, but it probably would be released after a long time.

Story[edit | edit source]

Setting[edit | edit source]

The story takes place sometime before the Americans dropped the nukes in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, where a group of ultra-conservative Christians formed a secret group that aims to destroy all demonkind, which are the minions of Michael Jackson, their deified king. But these demons are extremely weak because they instantly die due to the sun's UV rays, or when poisonous flowers are injected into them. (Seriously, why do they still risk fighting demons if they can just point a UV flashlight at them?)[2]

Plot[edit | edit source]

Since I am going to put a basic plot summary, expect spoilers.[3]

Tanjiro goes home after delivering coal, and finds his home to be a crime scene, where his family is killed, and his sister being a succubus. He then begins his training to become an exorcist, which also involves slicing a stone like it's just a piece of cake. After successfully slicing it, which took him two years, participates in an exam, and being the main character, unsurprisingly passes it, making him an official Demon Slayer. He then meets a french fry named Zenitsu and a Peppa Pig wannabe named Inosuke. After multiple battles with Demons, the gang now battle Michael Jackson and Tanjiro is turned into a demon in the process, but is cured by his homies and his formerly-succubus sister. Muzan Jackson is then defeated, and the ultra-conservative group disbands and become liberals.

Protagonists[edit | edit source]

Main Characters[edit | edit source]

Tanjiro Kamado[edit | edit source]

Hinokami Kagura

The MC. His story begins after witnessing his family's murder[4]. His sister was also turned into a succubus in the process. He initially learns the Water Breathing technique, technically making him unable to drown, and later gets access to the family's secret technique, the Thousand-degree knife. He is also known to have a skull that is harder than diamonds, as even though how hard he can headbutt, it won't leave a crack in his skull. He has a black sword, probably made of netherite, meaning he is the most skilled Minecraft player in the series.

Nezuko Kamado[edit | edit source]

Tanjiro's younger sister. She was turned into a succubus after the other family members were killed. She uses an extremely powerful Demon Arts technique known as Exploding Blood, which she probably learned from the Pillar Man Esidisi.[5] She is mute, but later regains broken speech, and is required to wear a bamboo pacifier, like a baby would. She was usually sheltered in a wooden box until she got immune to the sun[6]. She eventually becomes cured from being a succubus in the end.

Zenitsu Agatsuma[edit | edit source]

He is a French Fry who like simping on women, especially succubi. He is such a crybaby and is afraid of everything, including demons who aren't succubi[7]. He also has a massive hairfall, which made me feel surprised that he still isn't bald. The reason why he looks like a french fry is because he got struck by lightning, which also caused his intense hairfall. He uses the Thunder Breathing technique, but it only works when he faints or is asleep out of fear, because sleep is the only thing that makes him stronger. He eventually stops being a crybaby, thus unlocking a new Thunder Breathing variant. Also has a golden sword, and will probably the only one of them to survive in the nether when they play Minecraft[8].

Inosuke Hashibira[edit | edit source]

He is a Peppa Pig wannabe who is always angery and likes screaming like the other main characters. He always wears a mask[9] that makes him look like Peppa Pig. Instead of using swords, he would rather use saws as weapons because he just wants to do so, and call his friends whatever he wants to call them. Under the mask, he is revealed to be a buff trap. He uses the Beast Breathing Technique, a technique he invented[10].

Genya Shinazugawa[edit | edit source]

He can't use swords, because he is an American Kirby wannabe. Since he is American, he uses a GUN. He would also rather eat demons whole than slicing them, as for him, demons taste better when eaten alive, and by eating those demons, he copies their abilities, just like Kirby.

Kanao Tsuyuri[edit | edit source]

She is a nurse who works at a hospital for the ultra-conservative Christians and is the successor of the head nurse. She is known to not have the ability to think for herself, clearly contradicting the principles of the great Brian Cohen, who tells us that we must think and decide for ourselves as individuals[11]. Because of this, she only does things when told to do so, and has to use a coin when making decisions. She uses the Flower Breathing Technique in battle and has a pink sword[12].

Hashira[edit | edit source]

Giyu Tomioka[edit | edit source]

He is the Master of Water, or the Water Hashira for you fans, but he thinks he is unworthy to have the title. He is first seen trying to kill Nezuko, but decides to send Tanjiro to training so the latter can avenge his family's death. He is lonely because no one likes him, according to Shinobu. He also has a special Water Technique only he can use because, of course, he is the master.

Shinobu Kocho[edit | edit source]

The Insect Hashira, and the headnurse of the ultra-conservative hospital I was talking about earlier. She has an innocent-looking face, but don't trust it, since inside, she really is a sadist, both when it comes to teasing others or fighting demons. She really hates anti-vaxxer demons, which is the reason why her sword is technically like a vaccine, but inserts anti-Demon chemicals.

Kyojuro Rengoku[edit | edit source]

The Flame Hashira, he appeared in the Thomas the Dank Mugen Train arc. He has blonde and red hair because of his family being addicted to tempura, causing them to have mutations in their hair. Being the master of Flame, he also can use the special technique, the Thousand degree knife, but is different from Tanjiro's Thousand degree knife technique. Tanjiro then uses the Hashira's knife as an upgrade after the death of the latter during the battle in the Thomas the Dank Mugen Train[13].

Tengen Uzui[edit | edit source]

The Sound Hashira and a Hokage [14] wannabe who also thinks he is a god and should be worshipped by everyone, but is actually very insecure. He is also said to be an alpha male, since he has three wives working for him (Makio, Hinatsuru, and Suma) as his scouts. He is also the only Hashira known to retire from his position, because of one of his wives wanting him to do so.

Mitsuri Kanroji[edit | edit source]

She is the Love Hashira and an easy victim for the legendary Rule 34[15]. She is a weirdo and likes simping to all the male Hashiras, especially to the Serpent Hashira, Obanai, which she eventually marries as reincarnations. Her hair is pink and green because of eating too much mochi. She was supposed to learn the techniques of the Thousand-degree knife, but decided to invent her own technique, which is the Love Breathing. In combat, she uses a whip-like sword and fights like a rhythmic gymnast.

Muichiro Tokito[edit | edit source]

The Mist Hashira. He is usually stoned off, because of his mist, but can get serious when needed. He had a twin brother who was killed by a demon, causing him to get PTSD, causing him to resort to mist and him being such a d**k, and join the ultra-conservative corps. He gets cured from PTSD due to interactions with Tanjiro, which also stopped him from being a d**k, especially to Kotetsu.

Gyomei Himejima[edit | edit source]

The Stone Hashira[16], and the oldest and strongest among them. He used to be a monk who ran an orphanage for children who aren't adopted, who were unfortunately killed in a tragic massacre from the Communist Demon Army of Michael Jackson. This caused him to be an ultra-conservative Christian who is always seen praying.

Obanai Iguro[edit | edit source]

The Serpent Hashira. He is a herpetologist, and is always accompanied by his pet snake, Kaburamaru, which was passed down to Kanao after the Hashira's death. Growing up, he was a victim of human trafficking, as he was raised by an all-female group of bandits just to be a sacrificial offering to a serpent demon, until he was rescued by a missionary who happens to be a relative of Kyojuro, where he was converted into being an ultra-conservative.

Sanemi Shinazugawa[edit | edit source]

The Wind Hashira. He doesn't want his brother to join the Exorcist Club in order for the latter to live a normal life. He is also one of the two remaining Hashira to survive into the final battle.

Antagonists[edit | edit source]

Muzan Kibutsuji[edit | edit source]

Hee Hee!!

Also known as Michael Jackson, he is the leader of all demons in the franchise. He became a demon as a side-effect of his cure from his childhood sickness that made him allergic to anything. His aim is to create more demons, which is the reason why he killed Tanjiro's family, in the hopes of turning one into a demon that is immune to sunlight, which eventually becomes a trait of Nezuko, for him to be consumed, so he will only be allergic to the sun. He suffers from PTSD due to nearly being killed by the Thousand Degree Knife. He is known to walk backwards at most times[17]. And yes, as always, the anime antagonist fails because of the super-OP MC.

Lower Moons[edit | edit source]

Kamanue, Mukago, Wakuraba, Rokuro[edit | edit source]

Four Lower Ranks killed by Muzan because he thinks they are worthless.

Rui[edit | edit source]

“Spoderman, Spoderman, does whatever a spoder can!”

~ My thoughts.

He is a demon who wants to be like Spiderman.

Upper Moons[edit | edit source]

Daki[edit | edit source]

She is another succubus in the series, who used to be a hoe before eventually turning into a succubus. She is known to have kettle genes, as she is heard crying like one.

Supporting and Other Characters[edit | edit source]

Tamayo[edit | edit source]

She is a succubus doctor who is the only demon besides Muzan who can create demons, only for curing patience who have no choice, while ensuring that they know the consequences of being an incubus or succubus. She also happens to require only a few milliliters of blood to survive. She became one because of Michael Jackson, who brainwashed her to eat her own family because she is now a succubus. She offers to find a cure for Nezuko as part of a greater experiment to find a cure for those infected with the Muzan virus, but needs special blood only dropped by specific individuals of demonkind.

Yushiro Yamamoto[edit | edit source]

He is an incubus created by Tamayo who is overprotective and has a crush on his creator. He was turned into an incubus because of him having an incurable disease, and requires less blood in order to survive. He is the last of the demons, and survived into the modern day, in which he lived as a painter known for his portraits of Tamayo.

Kasugai Crows and Ukogi[edit | edit source]

The Kasugai Crows are a rare breed of crow bred by and for the ultra-conservative to act as their phone, which doesn;t use 5G, as they give messages about missions they have to complete, and are known to be very loud.

An Ukogi is a rare species of sparrow that has successfully become a Kasugai wannabe and is worthy of being such. He is the Kasugai Crow assigned to Zenitsu.

Aoi Kanzaki[edit | edit source]

She is a licensed ultra-conservative soldier, but got PTSD from her war flashbacks, so decided to become a nurse instead in the ultra-conservative hospital. She ends up marrying Inosuke after the battle.

Kagaya Ubuyashiki[edit | edit source]

He is the current head of the ultra-conservative party, and a descendant of a former member of the Jackson 5, thus giving him and his family connections with Michael Jackson. His entire bloodline was cursed to live extremely short lives because of Muzan Jackson, which was eventually broken after the fall of Jackson.

Kiriya Ubuyashiki[edit | edit source]

The only son of Kagaya, and the only male among the quintuplets. After his father's death at the hands of Michael Jackson, he became the Commander-in-chief of the ultra-conservative army, in which he also happened to be the last. After the curse is broken, he lives on to break the world record for the oldest person to ever live.

Yoriichi Tsugikuni[edit | edit source]

A legendary Demon Slayer who created the Million-degree knife Technique, which was the source of all Breathing Styles, including the Thousand-degree knife technique, which he thought to an ancestor of Tanjiro. He was killed by his brother, who became a demon, using the -Million-degree knife Technique.
