My tuppence worth

I know this way looks more like wikipedia, but I think it's massively detrimental to the site. It works on wiki well enough because the key word is nearly always the first word. With us, the articles are not normally so clear (see today's for example, where "cereal" is about the hundredth word. It makes even less sense when our featured articles are not from main - then you're expecting readers to read a script, a piece of news, or a howto with no context. I hate it, and I think it gives the other front page an advantage over ours. Leverage (talk) 08:28, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

That's ridiculous. A more rational plan would be to get rid of the frontpage completely, replacing it with a nice, simple, 404 error. And on April 1rd, we can redirect it to Wikipedia. Sir Modusoperandi ^Boinc! 23:10, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

Why is there a conditional show?

I don't see the point of showing some things on Mondays and Fridays but not on any other day of the week. If people think it's important, it should be shown all the time. "Featured users" and "Featured today a long time ago" only appear on Mondays and Fridays. I checked the source for the page and it's been programmed to do that. I don't know why. -- Sir Xam Ralco the Mediocre 18:16, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

I think it was hotadmin who opted to hide some stuff - recent articles. I moved it around, cos I think Recent is more important than Featured Users, which we change once every now and then. Having just been voted uncyclopedian of the month, i think the vote and the badge is more than enough backslapping, the front page is maybe overkill, and i do like the idea of the front page being shorter and better. but i jut put it in the hidden section as a kind of compromise/fudge. We should probably just get rid of it altogether. Wikipedia doesn't have it and nobody updates it. When they do, they just write one or two sentences. Done. The other thing I would like to change is the featured image. currently it is weight so it only shows the "best" ones, but this means they get repeated a LOT. I'd be in favour of a more random system of all featured images. Leverage (talk) 07:25, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

You can use either {{logo|<insert file name here}} or {{#setlogo:<insert file name here>}} to do it. 06:59, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
