Two HowTos submitted to UnNews

You were worrying the last batch would lead to this, weren't you? I am letting Mordillo sort out the current round and will spend the day doing something with less potential for drama. Like shopping for socks. Spıke ¬ 14:15 17-Jan-11

Myes... but he sort it out right dandily. Play this right, and Mordillo shall be right and truly roped into being ze new Chief... *beams*
Although there is something quasi-related I'd like to speak to you about one of these days... it'd just take effort, and I don't want to expend effort, so I'll mention unhelpfulness right now and wander off. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 15:04, 17 January 2011

Mhaille moved the cock-and-balls one back to UnNews; and Fifty cal has his second attempt, UnNews:Usher Booed off stage. This is based on real news but it's poorly coded and, well, poorly everything.

If the above suggests I was unhelpful to you, you really should expend some effort and tell me how. Spıke ¬ 01:12 18-Jan-11

Oh, no, no - you have me wrong. I'm the really unhelpful one, love. Vague and misleading and... confusing. As evidenced right here. You might be unhelpful sometimes yourself, but you definitely don't come near my own unhelpfulness, especially with my inability to properly elecute...
Anyhow, what Mhaille did to that one makes it workable, in my view - not in very good taste, but that's the funny thing about taste in general, let alone in humour - so many different sorts, so many opinions on what is and isn't funny and what is and isn't acceptable. My home seems to be general sorts, mainspace typically, but I suspect what I've seen while doing what is starting to turn into a crapload of reviews, would apply to UnNews just as well - I have found that instead of necessarily trying to get things to follow a certain form or method or style, it often works better to work with what is there and hope the person can do something with it. Most articles suck from the start, especially the ones on questionable topics and using more unusual implementations, but that doesn't mean such topics and implementations cannot work if executed well. Indeed, if they are, the surprise of that will often be enough to endear them to folks in of itself, as you may have noticed, but as with all novelty, however, that wears off almost immediately - one can do something new, but after that, it's just not new anymore. The copies fail as all they are are copies on top of whatever lousiness the originals twisted... but without the twist.
And the more unusual nature typically means that their execution has to be better than the normal ones, or there is no twist, or it just doesn't become apparent - they don't go anywhere past the rubbish of their topics or takes - everything has to be that much more perfect and precise to stand out as 'no, this is not crap' or that is indeed all it is.
Should this not be the same for UnNews? As long as they do it well, it shouldn't matter so much how they do it... the break from the norm can be refreshing in of itself.
Of course, there has to be a norm in the first place for that, and for something as specific as newsiness, that is especially important, indeed.
Meh, that even make any sense?
The Usher one is just funny, though. And not in that it's good. Because it's not. But still. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 03:41, 18 January 2011

All right, if you think it's funny, I'll go in and fix the coding. You are right about the need to tolerate different styles. Because of the auto-publishing nature of UnNews--you are right up at the top of Recent news with no Pee Review or vote--I get suspicious that kids just want a lot of people to read their latest dirty joke. And you are also right that authors appreciate a rational response. Kip's article--filed with overtones of mischief--expressed appreciation to the seriousness I gave our disagreement. You could almost be The Chief, as I am enjoying this stewardship less than ever. Spıke ¬ 03:48 18-Jan-11

Actually, I found it funny that it was so bad. Not sure what's actually funny about it...
But yeah, you're right there - I liked the bit you added about getting things right in the userspace first; not like folks don't have time. Could add a mention about how pee reviews after putting them out of userspace will only be useful for future ones, too... aww, but you make such a lovely Chief, and I was proud of you, reading your modifications of that thingy. You're finally taking over... you poor, poor thing. o__o 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 03:51, 18 January 2011

The drama above us there hasn't gone ballastic yet, but the potential is there if either of the participants have a flash point, which SPIKE may have but Lyrithya will humour him down from the roof. The Purple Spleen is a very nice adventure indeed, and from this seat we can see the top of it quite well. I like how it curves around like that. Aleister 2:28 18-1-'11
The purple spleen is cute. I might go and grab a choc-top now before we get really into the swing of things. Mind the seat for me. Nominally Humane! some time

Hey

Thanks for the review of UnNews:I sneezed. I'll be working on it soon. Or not so soon depending on how I feel. --Wanna see a magic trick? 16:16, January 18, 2011 (UTC)

In other words: Fuck you, having asked for your advice, don't assume that I'll take it to heart. As you were not bound to figure out whether the article was good before you put it on UnNews, and are apparently not bound to have either your section titles or your Forums indicate what's inside. In fact, given a notion that amuses you, we all have a duty to determine that it will amuse someone else before we deliver it. Spıke ¬ 16:57 18-Jan-11
SPIKE! What? That is not the only way what he said could be read; please, give folks the benefit of the doubt. Mind, Magic man, if he's right about that, for shame, for shame! Well, not really, but don't expect your future articles, especially UnNews, to do any better. I try to help, but if you don't want it or it fails utterly, not really anything I can do...
Mind, it seemed to me like you're just going to be lazy and not going to get around to it any time soon, something in of itself not a problem... generally speaking. It is rather strange considering how little excuse there would be to put off something so short, however, and doubly strange since the thing is an already published UnNews and subsequently working on it would be rather pointless at this point... I intended the review to be more of use for future reference; that was why I wasn't actually that specific to the article in question... honestly, you should probably just leave that one and move on and do better. Fix up the superficial about it, perhaps, but any complete rework would be pretty pointless as it's old news... 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 17:16, 18 January 2011
Very well, I take it back. It simply looked as though your review effort were being met with defiance and abuse. Separately, new Section 1.1 of UnNews:About tries to convey what we are shooting for. Spıke ¬ 17:27 18-Jan-11
Oh, it's certainly a possibility, but making assumptions doesn't really achieve much with most folks, you know? Although some people, it's pretty much the only way to make an impression... odd. What am I talking about? I have no idea.
A pity nobody will ever read it. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 17:38, 18 January 2011
To be fair to Magic man here, I have received far less grateful responses from reviews than this one and he is hardly going to want to try again or listen to either of you if you jump down his throat when he speaks to you. I don't know the detailed backstory here, nor am I interested in hearing about it (if there is one), we can't force people to accept Pee Review advice. I've had people blank my reviews, immediately submit a second request or otherwise respond in a way that leaves me in doubt as to what they thought of my review. So to summarise, SPIKE, relax and speak as you would wish to be spoken to and Lyrithya, keep working on your reviewing style.
When you have all done that you can all come round my place and check out my massive... car. --ChiefjusticePS2 18:10, January 18, 2011 (UTC)
Wow SPIKE... I... Um... That's not what I ment... It was actually just a joke... O_o --Wanna see a magic trick? 18:20, January 18, 2011 (UTC)

Damn you, Chief, edit conflicting me... damn you Magic man for edit conflicting me AGAIN...

Magic man - jokes are dangerous. Especially here. Nobody expects them here; it's a comedy website!
Okay, seriously, I should apologise for being so harsh in the review, and for the presumption involved and after. Excuses aside, I should know better by now than to review articles that I am so close to, to the writing or especially to drama surrounding them (especially when I kind of helped start it... whoops). The article is not particularly good as it stands and I know you can do better, but the strange thing is, pretty much anything can be salvaged; far worse than that has managed to get to featurable state, so I should definitely not be discouraging attempts to fix it or other such things up. And even if nobody sees it once it is off the UnNews page, you could still perhaps learn a bit and have something better to point back to, later... 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 18:23, 18 January 2011
Actually the review was fine. If I didn't like it my message to you probably would've been closer to what SPIKE thought I was trying to say.
P.S.
You don't know how hard I laughed when I saw that you got edit conflicted twice. --Wanna see a magic trick? 18:33, January 18, 2011 (UTC)
Eh, even if a review is terrible, that really wouldn't be a good way to respond... optimal would be to politely say what's so bad about it and if there seems any hope of improvement, suggest what the reviewer might want to do next time, thank them for trying, and get another one. At very least, being nice is... er, nice, and often tends to be more effective. I mean, compare an how Mordillo and Zombiebaron tried to get me to stop blanking pages - Zombiebaron banned me. I was startled, stopped for a bit, then started again... Mordillo asked nicely. Oddly, I stopped.
And I usually get edit conflicted. Side effect of being overly verbose... and of having a really short attention span. Put the two together and it's nigh inevitable it'll happen. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 18:45, 18 January 2011
Again, joking. I wouldn't have actually responded to your pee review like that. --Wanna see a magic trick? 19:38, January 19, 2011 (UTC)
Oh? I'm glad. But I can think of plenty that would... ghuuh, I think my sense of humour may have died. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 19:47, 19 January 2011

It's nice and squishy, whatever the reason. And reviews with you tend to be a little different than most folks - your articles are usually in a decent state already, so I can just nitpick, and I also tend to have already read them, so I've often had more time to think about them, and you don't seem to mind if I go off and be weird, too. So they're nicer to do... 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 18:50, 18 January 2011

This is the problem with our spiders. I probably come across whitetails about once a week - more if I'm gardening. Most spiders are okay though. I often find huntsmen around the place - especially if I leave my bedroom window open. Bears may rip your head off, but spiders can hide in your bed. RE:Reviews and images

I'm sorry about the review--I realize that I'm not good at interpreting prose that way. As for the weird shine, I am using Inkscape. I think the only problem was the GUN image, which I haven't bothered to fix. If the problem is only on that one, then tell me and I know exactly what to do. —DCCLXXVII (complaintsresumeMUN.pngPcg logo.jpgUC-Army-OF1d.jpgWPUMFGoogHelpAWAWA)

Just try to be more in-depth; getting better at it should come with practice, and chances are your own article-making skills will improve as well. Mine seem to have, though it's iffy. On the other hand, my reviews kind of suck.
As for the images, they're not all simplifications of the same image? Why not just swap out the visibility of the glyphs with the same rest of it; that'd resolve inconsistencies, and you'd only have to crop once. Actually, that would explain why the other ones were cropped funny, too... but just select the objects and compare the bounds to the bounds of the circles and you'll see which ones have problems with that, though... GUN was the only one that went off the bottom much, but some of the others went off the sides and whatnot when I looked. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 02:58, 22 January 2011
When I started n00bing around here I started writing reviews well before I tackled my first full article. I did rewrite a 100 worst list first, and then had it reviewed. That was important as reviews taught me to be critical of my own ideas by being critical of others. But definitely suggest reading the guidelines as well. I put things up for review for two reasons. The first is that I feel that it is feature worthy and I want to see if I'm alone in that thought. The second is because I have developed something to a point and I need a jab to get it one or two notches higher. Of course I don't write as much as I used to, but even so it something is put on review it is far better to be over critical then be over nice. Also remember a 7 as a score means that something is good. A 10 means that you have exceeded the expectation of everyone. I have very rarely given a 10 for a section on one of my reviews. Nominally Humane! some time Saturday, 04:23, Jan 22 2011 UTC
The problem with the SVGs is that I have a circle of radial gradient that I used as shading. I was too lazy to open the gradient tool and move the center node down a bit, so I just moved the whole thing down, ending in an annoying translucent-white circle overlapping below the image. I guess I'll fix it tomorrow. —DCCLXXVII (complaintsresumeMUN.pngPcg logo.jpgUC-Army-OF1d.jpgWPUMFGoogHelpAWAWA)

Something like that. If I knew whatever font Insertwackynamehere originally used, it would have been a lot less work. Anyway, I did all the things you said, I just hid all of the other glyphs in hidden layers for each image. I only needed one image instead of a half-dozen. Animated svg

You seem to have become a bit of a go to image person. Do you know anything about asvg? Nominally Humane! some time Saturday, 04:39, Jan 22 2011 UTC

Never heard of it. Although I'm actually pretty clueless...
Anyhow, since not all browsers support regular svgs or even animated pngs and wikia doesn't always/ever handle those properly, either, an animated svg probably wouldn't be a very good idea here... I hope that's not why you're asking. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 04:49, 22 January 2011
But although MediaWiki doesn't support animated SVGs, they're still written in XML, a language most browsers tend to understand. Of course, when I say this, I'm excluding those that don't display the internet (IE). —DCCLXXVII (complaintsresumeMUN.pngPcg logo.jpgUC-Army-OF1d.jpgWPUMFGoogHelpAWAWA) 07:52, January 22, 2011 (UTC)
Much of the world's population uses IE... and don't rule out other common browsers from being idiotic, either. Cross-platform and regional differences exist as well, and that is just within realms of the supposedly 'standardised'. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 08:45, 22 January 2011

Yay

Hello vandal. Just wanted to tell you I've successfully procrastinated away another day of not fully writing my poo lit entry. Yay! And you know why I'm whoring Kitten Cookbook so much? Because if it gets selected for tomorrow's feature then, with that four-day layover last week for "into the light", a page of mine would be in the number one or two spot on the main page for nine days in a row! I have seven days now. Records are made to be spoken! Ah, just thought of a line for the Keith Obermann page, and then signing out. Another day without poo lit getting in the way, again, Yay! And Yay! An update! My prayers have been answered by Rasputin or Disney, as Black Flamino's and our Lonely Hearts page was unexpectedly nommed and passed in one day. Do you know what that means? You and I are half-featured on that one, so . . . . I will have a feature on the main page template for 9 days in a row!!! Woo woo. Dancing with Dancing Dude, putting herbs and cats into vats with Magic man, having suppy with Puppy. Putting my hard liquor away and lighting up some herb (sadly, it's oregeno, as the other has eluded my grasp). And Lonely Hearts gives you more to add to the Hall of Shame - more words on the Lyrithya section of the hall - with Zombiebaron hovering and protecting your entry from those devastating vandals. But the fact that the guy didn't even heed the very rudimentary formatting... *shakes head bemusedly* 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 00:07, 29 January 2011
I didn't think it was funny either, but I was thinking; "well, it looks like he put a lot of work into that code", although truth be told I had no idea what it was supposed to do, so I'm probably not the most qualified to comment on it. --Black Flamingo 00:16, January 29, 2011 (UTC)
Just a <choose> to add some randoms... pretty simple and not a bad idea in of itself, but most of them just seemed staler repeats of existing jokes, if that. But even if someone does put a lot of work into code, if it doesn't work or doesn't help or isn't funny or whatnot, what's the point in keeping it, anyhow? Like when I tried making the mask on Disguise hideable without actually going to a new page, for instance... since it only worked some of the time, I had to put the page back how it was, despite the work involved in the attempt. You know? 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 00:29, 29 January 2011
Yeah, I guess I was just dithering because I felt mean. I must be getting soft. In the future I won't hesitate to grab that undo button by the balls. --Black Flamingo 00:42, January 29, 2011 (UTC)
Eh, I dunno. Maybe I am just mean... considered that? 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 01:06, 29 January 2011
Nope, but that's because I know it to be true. --Black Flamingo 01:34, January 29, 2011 (UTC)
He did similar with God's answering service which I then reverted and then went back and redid some of his ideas. Obviously a decent coder there but not always on the money humour wise, and doesn't check on cross browser acceptance. Having said that, this is a page that is screaming out to IPs and n00bs to come in and edit it without regard to any of the original content or structure. Maybe a commented section at the start of it asking for people to refrain from editing? Nominally Humane! some time 03:04, January 29, 2011 (UTC)
Eh, no kidding. Someone with a sense of not being a complete arse/loon should probably write it, though. As in, someone not me. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 03:25, 29 January 2011

Wikia on the march

Wow. As well as UnNewses not going into UnNews:, pop-up link recommendations are recommending red-links, and the Watchlist has now changed. This is because we went to a new version of MediaWiki and the bugs are not all worked out, right? What do you hear about (1) other things to watch out for, and (2) estimated time to repair? Spıke ¬ 00:13 29-Jan-11

Red links, eh? I sure wouldn't know; still doesn't even work with my browser. The watchlist is different? How so? (I have it in extended mode, which is still the same as before, or at least seems to be)
Other stuff... eh, there's a nice list of complaints somewhere in the forum. They haven't fixed... well, most of them. DPL's the obvious big one, though, aside from the whole prefix dealy with which you are assuredly intimately familiar with by now... and when will they be fixed? No idea. Hopefully... eventually? Seriously, some bits may not get fixed at all, you know. Wikia is fun like that. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 00:23, 29 January 2011
Aleister pops up. Hello!!! Something I noticed is that the easy outside photo link you gave us a few days ago, where it was easy as three clicks to upload a page, now makes you go through the entire uploading page, which threw me for awhile until I got the hang of it. So it's not a one-step thing anymore. By the way, in real life I am President Murbarek of Egypt, so I may not be posting as much in the next few weeks, on the run and all, and I will take your advice on what to do to my people. Thumbs up? Thumbs down? You tell me, should I massacre a few thousand or just invite them in for tea? Aleister 1:41 29-1-'11

I just typed it out in GIMP in the funny greyish colour, told it to border it in black, and then had it drop a shadow. Pretty inelegant, but that's what it was. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 15:55, 29 January 2011
Can you make this with a hippie gif image for background? --~ Mimo.gifMimomaxus.gifMaxus.gif 16:25, January 29, 2011 (UTC)
What's wrong with a white background? What it says is more important than the presentation, especially when the presentation of the article itself is already pretty bloody psychedelic... decent images and style will do that, you know. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 18:02, 29 January 2011

I really like this article :) The middle image of the tree going through the old car is a great illustration of how we are stuck with the consequences of your choices. I never thought about how pervasive it is, but it does remind me of my time in India (a taxi once stopped at midnight in the middle of a dangerous slum to change a broken tire to a rather bad but better one and I too wondered if my days would end with an exploding car). The final paragraph of the article made me laugh out loud too! --Shabidoo 19:43, February 1, 2011 (UTC)

Right, sorry about that, as well as the crankiness - I was kind of busy this morning, which was actually entirely my own damn fault, anyhow, but... er... yeah. So I use GIMP, as you probable surmised, but since you already have it, Photoshop is well worth using as well - they do most of the same things, though with slightly different intents and capabilities and rather different interfaces, but if you can get the hang of either you'll probably find yourself quite disinclined to switch from one to the other. Which is a horrible sentence.

But I also use inkscape, which is a lovely if quite odd program in of itself, and though I don't think I've used these for anything here, I've found Terragen and Maya to be rather excellent 3D renderers and have been looking into getting Vue and Modo... you could try your hand at 3D modelling, yourself, perhaps. Anyhow, Google is your friend when it comes to finding information on any of these or other ones, so... yeah. Cheers. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 01:20, 4 February 2011

Because I'm too lazy to look, what 3D modelling software would you suggest that's freeware, and useful for creating interior scenes with flexibility to create custom textures? I've had difficulty wrapping my head around blender and the only other one I have has definite issues with incorporating textures or using curves. Nominally Humane! some time 02:11, February 4, 2011 (UTC)
I have no idea what 'freeware' is, but what's wrong with blender? Plug in a better renderer, and it's just dandy, or so I've heard... only reason I'm using Maya is because I took a class and the instructions were specific to that. *shifty eyes* 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 02:14, 4 February 2011
Freeware is old man code for "stuff I don't have to pay for to use." And the issue is not with blender but with my difficulty in using it. 3D modelling has never been a strength of mine and I'm looking for something a little more user friendly. Nominally Humane! some time 02:22, February 4, 2011 (UTC)
Oh, how odd. But I'm not sure there is such a thing as user-friendly when it comes to that stuff, unfortunately... unless you get something really specialised, anyhow, but then it'll only work for that for which is it specialised, and stuff. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 02:26, 4 February 2011

An explosion

These talk pages of yours do seem to fill up fast. And they are fun to read. It is like a lot of people wrote some very interesting things. They thought about what they were going to say, let their fingers free their words, and expressed themselves coherently and concisely. Then of course someone firebombed the fuck out of the page. There were little adjectives flailing their armless nubs about in bloody fury, the verbs were treated for concussive head injuries and were released (but were never quite the same), and the nouns were forced to watch the pronouns run around on fire; disfigured by the flames the pronouns trampled the articles and conjunctions, and, well, we never found a trace of the modifiers. The adverbs resorted to cannibalism and ate the poor prepositions...savagely.

I do however find your talk pages very fun to read. -- Sheepicon.png

What can be "with" snow? It just, is. Tomorrow, another six to eight, will be. The south side of the hill, visible in the photo, is dry enough that I'll get the car up to the crest. The north side is a mess, and I may be parking down at the road tomorrow night. When you drive over snow before shoveling, it becomes ice, and you don't get down to asphalt again for a while. Bugger me, it works! Pup 12:16 06 Feb '11
And it does stuff when I refresh the page! Pup 12:18 06 Feb '11
Hang on a minute - this is not my talk page. Pup 12:19 06 Feb '11
You're very silly. In other news, setting up your signature like that may not be such a good idea - it loses the sense of chronology in terms of other things. Doesn't say anything as to how long after the previous comment it was, for instance, and it may also prove problematic when dealing with, say, monthly things - if it was a few days ago, was that this month or the last? Sure, one can check the history, but I thought the whole point of timestamps was to avoid that... there's my obligatory griping. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 17:18, 6 February 2011

I'd like my signature to do such things too--but only until the message is a couple hours old. Then have it say "Today" or "Yesterday," and thereafter, as Lyrithya says, how long ago it was is irrelevant and you want an actual timestamp. Spıke ¬ 17:45 6-Feb-11

Actually, even that could be problematic. If it's on a border and I need to know what month it is from (it's annoying enough to do them review tables as it is, you know), it helps if it just says. Am I picky? Yes, but I also like having a sense of when things happen, and saying relative to the current tells me nothing when I have no idea what time it is currently, which I usually don't. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 17:55, 6 February 2011
PS--If you're editing with no sense of the current time, as I sometimes do too, then a relative timestamp is more helpful than the usual kind. Spıke ¬ 14:19 7-Feb-11
Yes, you're picky. I've set it up to give me on minutes for the first 65 minutes, and then hours. After that it will let me know yesterday, and then x days ago. I'll change it to go to a standardised timestamp after 8 hours, to make things for admins earlier. I'm still going to get back to a simplified PEE process at some stage as well, which I'm sure ?pedia will be happy to steal. Pup 09:24 06 Feb '11
There's also an issue in which it takes no consideration for how long the page has been open... meh, I'm glad you're planning to make it stop after a time, but to be honest, I've just never liked that setup in general. Normally it's a site thing and the website, if it's any good, gives the option to turn it off, though, but you're hard-coding it into your signature, winding up with something potentially even more confusing and less reliable than Aleister's timestamps... feggle.
And why would ?pedia want to steal a simplified PEE setup? We don't do reviews. Usually. Hard to review raving nonsense, though. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 21:56, 6 February 2011
Actually I dislike adding timestamps to signatures to be honest. I used to make mine all pretty like and colourful and then had it followed by an ugly black timestamp. I removed it for a while and was asked to keep the timestamp in as it was annoying having to look at history. I then added the timestamp but had it commented out and was asked to have it displayed. I did that and prettied it up but then when I was changing my sig the timestamp stayed as it was. Here I can have the time code in the signature and allow the template to manipulate it as I need it to. It allows for more flexibility and to be able to change older sigs and stamps without much effort. I don't think I've seen a way to turn off timestamp display on a site level with Uncyc - and given the way Al writes his sigs, this is at least less annoying. And I've never visited ?pedia, so I have no way of knowing what you do over there. Pup 10:11 06 Feb '11
Far as I'm concerned, this is more annoying - no timestamp would be better, since I still need to need to look at the history to have any idea when it was, as what you have there is just misleading without a frame of reference, but perhaps that is just me.
Then why say we'd steal it? 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 22:25, 6 February 2011
I was more saying I'd be happy for you to take it. I assume ?pedia is the same as Uncyc until proven otherwise. If I found something I liked on another wiki that I could manipulate for my own good, I would do the same. (Actually, I have done that before.) Pup 01:06 07 Feb '11
And I have changed it to show the time and date after 8 hours. I did it more to see if I could, rather than because I'm happy with the outcome. I'll probably change it again when I get bored. Pup 01:10 07 Feb '11
Ah, I see. Actually, there I've found stealing from wikipedia to be more effective than from here, usually. Their technical stuff tends to work better. There's just some... fundamental difference that I can't quite place...
You and your boredom. Sheesh. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 01:41, 7 February 2011

Fuck Illogicopedia

I write my very first article on Illogicopedia and what do I get? A speedy deletion tag! Seriously, I'm not kidding. I vent my frustration at the talk page of the asshole who dared to do this, and he does nothing! And you, with all your accolades & Illogicopedian of the Year tag, keep reminding me of how much better you are then me! I hate you people! And Illogicopedia! --Scofield 16:32, February 6, 2011 (UTC)

Mon, if you're inclined to talk to me about ?pedia stuff, why not say it there? Something about how there is there and here is here and this just gets confusing... oh well. You're here. Hmm.
Anyhow, my, er... what? My eh eh? That seems like a strange reason to hate, since betterness really has nothing to do with it. I mean, I am prettier than pretty must everyone else around, but that's really not the point. Doesn't mean I'm really any better. And a speedy deletion tag doesn't mean it will get deleted, anyhow, especially since... well, you know how some people can be a little, ah, overzealous with such things... but he's wrong about the song thing, especially since they seem to be original lyrics and all that - I'll just go ahead and remove the tag. And actually look at the whole QD thing, for that matter... I wonder what all else has been put there while I've been studiously ignoring it.
And please don't take it to heart - users do things, but I assume you've seen some of the crazy stuff that's wound up on qvfd here, no? Doesn't mean they've any merit to it. This may seem strange, but anger really doesn't tend to solve anything in such situations; perhaps next time consider being a little more courteous? If there is a conflict of cheeses, instead of a 'how dare you', a 'why did you do that' might yield a more... useful response. Tends to cause the other person to clam up less. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 17:44, 6 February 2011
Well, especially if he's going to call people assholes, better he do it on some other web site they never come visit. The thing I took from that user talk page is that Scofield is not the first to get his article tagged; and you're right, nothing may come of it. Regarding "pretty," at least I backed up my claims (which were "snowy") with photos. Spıke ¬ 17:47 6-Feb-11
Indeed, a little tact might... help. On both ends, really, but anger and resentment are annoying. And aye, but pictures of snow are less likely to get many of the lonely things here more horny. I could do without that. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 17:58, 6 February 2011

First of all, thanks a million for getting rid of that tag and giving Mr Berty a talking-to. Why he really pissed me off was because he just put it up there for speedy deletion when even Illogicopedia has a vfd. The reason I put this on ur Uncyclopedia talk-page was because I felt there was not much you could do to resolve the situation. It's really cocky of people to just put up things for quick deletion even though they're meant for the worst of the worst. I had no problem with the other two being in the queue, but my very first article being QVFD'd, that bites. --Scofield 11:16, February 7, 2011 (UTC)

I wish someone would VFD my earlier and somewhat more embarrassing attempts at writing. Pup 12:09 07 Feb '11
Do it yourself, puppy. That's what User:Maniac mcpee did anyway. --Scofield 14:13, February 7, 2011 (UTC)
Generally that's frowned upon - if a person wants their own works deleted, that's what qvfd is for. Going through vfd is excess bureaucracy and bother for everyone else, really...
Also, VFD is currently in a state of nonfunctional on ?pedia - some extension being used for it quit working in some update, and nobody has been bothered to fix it or come up with a new way to handle it, since stuff very rarely does merit deletion there.
And I couldn't do anything? So why come here at all; am I just a post on which to take out your anger, then?
In general, though, this is the sort of thing you'd probably want to go to admins about if you can't resolve it yourself - after all, deletion is the realm of the admins, thus to them the disputes should go, right? Angrily demanding things, however, will very rarely resolve anything. Think about it. If you ask nicely what the person is doing, try to get an explanation, then if they still don't give you one, explain why you think they are in error... it's a lot more likely they'll change their mind. Even if they don't, if you're reasonable about such things, it's usually a win-win situation - either they acquiesce or they wind up looking stupid, unless it turns out you really were in error, but it's a lot easier to sort that out that way, and even then there tend to be a lot less hard feelings. Just going around raging is more likely to only make you look stupid, though, resolving nothing. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 19:38, 7 February 2011
I don't have any cashews and I blame you. Send me some cashews right fucking now. Tinymasaru.gifpillow talk 19:49, February 7, 2011 (UTC)

The text! The words! The name of the album and/or whatever else goes on it. *is clueless* 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 03:25, 8 February 2011
Btw, Lyrithya, you're not a punching bag, but you are an Illogicopedian. If my article had been deleted, I probably would have never visited Illogicopedia again, and would probably have some very nasty thoughts about it. Given how you're such a devoted Illogicopedian and all, I decided to just blow off some steam by letting you know how pissed I was at the site. You're right when you say I did all this out of anger, and angry people often tend to throw it in other people's faces. I'm sorry if I hurt you in any way, as that was definitely not my intention. Unless you supported the deletion tag, that is.... --Scofield 07:08, February 9, 2011 (UTC)

Dull but quick

Hey. The radio in my sig has a white background. Are you able to quickly change it to transparency, or if it's not too much of an issue create an svg version of it with transparent background as I's like it to be scalable. (Running between job I interviews with no graphic manipulation capacity in my phone.) Pup 10:20 07 Feb '11

Transparency is doable quickly; svg of sufficient quality to be worth scaling, however, would take a little longer... hmm. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 22:27, 7 February 2011
Of course, crappy quality is pretty quick. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 23:27, 7 February 2011
That's perfect. If I need to polish it later I can, but that is exactly what I was after. Pup 11:40 07 Feb '11
Good, good. Cheers. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 23:59, 7 February 2011
And I've tweaked the time thingy again, so it should have a title attribute showing the time as UTC rather than x minutes ago. I can't check if it works on this browser, due to its limitations, but hopefully that's a little easier for accurate timing competitive to calendar, and the usual text gives timing comparative to now (for the first 8 or so hours). I hope that alleviates some of the misgivings with it. Again, thanks muchly for the help and feedback. Pup 12:02 08 Feb '11
It's still annoying that it does the other thing at all. Dammit, you are not diffusing my spite so simply... also, only use an apostrophe with its when it is a verb! AgH! 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 00:06, 8 February 2011
