Goodbye, Uncyclopedia.

After all these years, it's time I finally officially threw in the towel. I've been less than active for quite some time already, but fact of the matter is I cannot keep up the pretence, and you all, if any of you even care anymore, deserve some honesty - and honest honesty is I'm not coming back. The humour and madness and chaos, the strange times and the terrible jokes and the essays-long pages of critiques, and the taking everything entirely too seriously while simultaneously taking next to nothing seriously, it's all in the past - a chapter in my life that I will never get back. There's no point pretending otherwise.

So this is goodbye. So long. Thank you for all the fish, and the bans, and the blocks, and the really sad introduction to javascript. Thank you for the laughs and the tears and the votes. From what I understand, the Babel project was supposed to be moved to carlb's UnMeta, but after a quick look I couldn't actually find it, so it's possible I was mistaken about that. Considering that very few projects actually have any say as to what goes on there, however, perhaps it might be in order to try to start a new one of sorts? I know on ?pedia the other languages coordination stuff is all handled on the english one, so we might just want to restart that up again here, or even create a new project in order to do so. Just pointing it to the mainpage here probably won't be the most helpful, though.

I know, this probably isn't very helpful either, but I guess what I'm really saying is do whatever seems right, talk to folks to determine what that might be, get consensus if you think something weird is on order, etc etc, and don't worry too much about it exactly being proper. Thanks, but unfortunately I do not understand. I never really understood the whole wiki linking thing, so perhaps you could assist me more as I feel things need to be sorted out here. For example, when I look on this wiki on any page on the left of the page I often see a link to something which says: "In other languages". Under that tab are a list of other Uncyclopedia projects. For me now that list starts with "Afrikaans" and ends with "中文（台灣）‎". I assume that list is something which the administrators of this wiki, and other Uncyclopedia wiki can control? Is there a special page for it in MediaWiki or something? Anyway, when I go to some of those wiki, some do not link back to us, and some do. However, IMO some of those wiki which currently do not link back to us would link back to us if they even knew that we existed. Many of them link to Uncyclopedia.org. I assume that many of them can link to whoever they choose to link to. As for consensus here? I'm not sure what I might need consensus for? I'm not requesting anything be changed on this wiki. I also don't understand how carlb fits into this? I am aware that he has assisted Uncyc a lot over the years, but I'm not sure how he relates to things now. Does he still run some of the other Uncyc wiki ... The situation now is that I have spoken to a user who has influence on a particular wiki which I think might like to link to us, and that person is requesting instruction on how to link that wiki to this one. I don't really know what's going on, so I possibly completely misunderstood you. Carlb is a host of some of the language uncyclopedias. That may or may not actually be relevant here, though.

With the languages, there's this thing called interwiki links. They're formatted a bit like namespaces, but they use a prefix to go to other projects. You can see the full list at special:interwiki, but for basic examples, there are two types: ones like [[wikipedia:Cat]] go to completely separate projects (in this case to wikipedia), and interlanguage ones like [[es:Gato]] go to the different languages on the same project. The interlanguage ones are what you see in the sidebar. To change what url they actually point to, however, you need to edit the interwiki table (how you do this varies by project - in our case you do so by getting a bureaucrat to edit special:interwiki, but some require more convoluted processes, or sometimes won't allow it at all).

Firstly, that interwiki link JFC and NaturalBornKieler were discussing points to a nonexistent babel page for Anglo-Saxon (Babel:Ang), not English Uncyclopedia. It should just be removed; changing it to en.uncyclopedia.co won't help anyone, because there's nothing of any value here either. If it had been developed into another wiki, that would be another story, but it wasn't, so having an interwiki link is senseless.

Secondly, de.uncyclopedia.org is hosted on Wikia, and only Wikia staff can change interwikis on Wikia wikis. Hope this message finds you well. Just wanted to say thanks for getting rid of that awful grey text. Black text is easier on the eyes and I know you agree :) I'm not sure why you made the headers grey though - I seem to have undone that, as well as removing Linux Libertine from the stack - it probably only shows up for linux users, a small minority that happens to include me, and I find it ugly. Grey text for the headers is to offset the otherwise overwhelming weight, and Linux Libertine was the main point of having serif headers in the first place. Now of course there are fallbacks because not everyone has it, but get rid of that one, and you might as well lose the entire font stack. That's the font for the logo, man, and it's a free, maintained font that's supposed to encompass values and crap. May I remind you that there was no consensus on the matter in the relevant forum? I believe we are both doing these things because it is what we like. Firstly, the 'overwhelming weight' is caused by a change in size that has little logical backing and could be easily reverted. Secondly, I disagree that the point of serif headers is to have Linux Libertine; it may be your point, but the stated reason was to create a difference between headers and text. It also looks better in smaller sizes and I understand it is not used in the current logo for Uncyclopedia. You created that forum specifically against the typography refresh, and you're right - there was no consensus, not to use it, and not to not use it. This, however, isn't even that - this is you breaking parts of it with no reason beyond that you, personally, do not like it. Yes, the reason the headers are so bold is because of the size, but the size, like the fonts (which were discussed at length on various mailing lists and bugzilla before the current stack was finally settled on, and yes, that is why Linux Libertine was placed at the top), is a part of the overall change to the skin. Wikipedia's skin, and due to the nature of Uncyclopedia, our skin, at least until it is established otherwise and Shabidoo agrees.

I get that you don't like the typography refresh (hells, I'm not particularly fond of it myself), but if you can't separate your personal feelings from what's appropriate for the project as a whole, I would suggest you simply step away from this matter entirely. Make a gadget, and comment if someone else starts a forum about it, but otherwise please just avoid it.

Contacting Uncyclomedia Foundation

Hi Lyrithya,

I’m not sure if you’re aware but I’ve recently been trying to restart the Foreign Office project. The forum’s been fairly successful but I’ve also tried advertising on various translator websites.

I tried posting a request for translators on Proz.com back in March. The website is generally for paid work but they make exceptions for non-profit organizations. The problem, I was told, is that only an official representative from the Uncyclomedia Foundation can advertise for volunteers. Would you know how to get in contact with someone from the foundation? I don't think we actually have much of anything official. Most of what we call 'Foundation' is just a loose collection of organisational things scattered around various sites, an IRC channel, and volunteers who sometimes take the time to do things with it. Okay. Four days over a weekend is a totally reasonable allotment of time. Nevermind that all our channels are slow and I needed to run this through other folks before even having any idea what to do with it (I'm backend, not finances - emc handles that, and he hasn't responded yet), or the fact that I've been on bloody holiday for the past two weeks, in completely the wrong timezones to be contacting anyone, and internet has been spotty at best, and right now I'm operating on about two hours of sleep with a 15 hour flight ahead of me.

I didn't get it posted for several days so that's not his fault. Then he thought he could help by buying things through the store. Now it's been a month and a half and nobody's answered my question on that. I posted a chance for free publicity and nobody seemed interested in that. What he said. A lot of the folks who actually handle this stuff don't really watch the forums, nor even have that great of internet to begin with, so emailing the specific folks is often the best way to get action on something (though if you have consensus on a forum first, that will also help, because at least some of us will be less likely to panic out of sheer cluelessness at that point).

Anyway, I don't recall ever seeing his offer before, so maybe it got lost or something? e|m|c really is the guy to go to about monies if you can find him, Zombiebaron about the shop specifically; barring that, BB is good if his internet is working, or even just poking generally on IRC should get you redirected to the right folks. @Kakun: YES! But I dunno when (I... have been having some health issues, so my time is a bit lacking of late, hence the late reply as well). Is User:Bizzeebeever around (he could probbaly speed things up)? I have e-mailed you back for a reply. Here's a brief summary for it: Filter on Illogicopedia is working fine, while for interwiki links, only bureaucrats and sysadmins can handle it, and most of them hardly appear on wiki (which is why twoplustwoalwaysmakesafive recommended me to talk to you, not anyone else). For filters on Uncyclopedia, it seems that admins need your help because they really don't know how to create a filter.--The Pioneer 17:30, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
