Pre-Rendered Welcome![edit | edit source]
Hello, Sog1970/Archive 2009, and welcome to Uncyclopedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If not, the door's right over there... no, a little more to your left...Not that far, dammit! ...Yeah. Anyway, here are a few good links for nooblets:
If you read anything at all, make it the above two links, particularly the second one. If you want to find out more about Uncyclopedia or need more help with something, try these:
- About Uncyclopedia and The five pliers of Uncyclopedia
- How to get started editing on uncyclopedia
- Everything you ever wanted to know, but were afraid to ask
- Help Pages - if you need help with a specific issue
- The FAQs - a few common editing questions answered for your convenience
- Our Vanity Policies - why we don't care about your friends
- Uncyclopedia:Chat - Follow the instructions here to come to the Uncyclopedia IRC channel.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being an Uncyclopedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or use the "sign" button () above the edit box. This will automatically produce your username, a link to your userpage, the date, and your social security number. Really, there are only two rules, just make sure you take a brief look at them.
If you need help, ask me on my talk page, ask at the Dump, or add the following: help
to this page along with a message and someone who cares will come along and help you if they can. Additionally, the Uncyclopedian Adopt-a-Noob program is there to bring experienced editors straight to you. Simply put adoptme on your Userpage to join--but you might want to go and actively ask someone from here, or you might not be noticed. Again, welcome to the machine!
- You may think some stuff that appears everywhere here is cool, like Oscar Wilde, Chuck Norris, Kitten Huffing, Russian Reversal, and Mr. T. Those things are completely overused and not really funny anymore. Among us sophisticated intelligentsia, we call this phenomenon cliché. Whatever, these subjects are worn out, near death, and in dire need of being huffed. Just please don't mention them unless you have a very, very good reason. Or if it's funny. And I mean funny.
- Another thing we veterans hate is Random Humor. Don't put chicken from Mars in an article about George Washington. You can put it in an article about, well, Chicken from Mars. That's it.
- Humor is a subtle subject. People will tell you that talking about excretes is just bad taste - count me among them - and others will find this kind of stuff the
pinnacle of subversive irony. Just stay calm, have a good look at HTBFANJS, and try to learn what works best. No one here will ban you as long as you don't impose your non-conformist ideas on already created stuff. - Start pages in userspace, first. By that, I mean if you wanted to create a page called "Flappy woo-ha," instead of creating the page Flappy woo-ha, create User:Sog1970/Archive 2009/Flappy woo-ha. That way, you'll have plenty of time to work on it and it won't be deleted or ICU'd. You can start a page in mainspace, just make damn sure what you put there is long enough and funny enough to not get huffed.
- Never recreate a deleted article. Never redo a reverted edit. Never.
- There are a lot of links I just put on your page. This is the most important one.
- And, finally, don't be afraid. We don't eat people. Usually. - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon (Tick Tock) (Contribs) 21:31, Apr 15

Try and tell us more about you on your talk page Sog1970. Interesting work.--RomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate). 23:41, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
I'm a 19 year old cheer-leader from Wisconsin. My hobbies are felching, pony-riding and negotiating detente between Israel and the Muslim world. I like puppies --Sog1970 08:05, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well at least I know what 'felching' is - by looking it up on google. Ahem ! Ok..I only took notice because you have been writing history orientated articles which have caught my interest. I expect you are going to tell me sog is another sexual term that I am unfamiliar with ! --RomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate). 08:47, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Nope. Sog is a nickname. Don't ask. I deny that it stands for Son Of God --Sog1970 09:18, 2 June 2009 (UTC) Actually, I'd do more Hisory but I fear all the articles would end up being essentially the same.--Sog1970 09:21, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- That can be a problem but often other writers can help turn a piece or make suggestions. I seem to recall you did some battles as well ?? . I am also guessing you are not a cheerleader either but the bit about reconciling Israel and the Muslim world sounds very plausible. --RomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate). 11:11, 2 June 2009 (UTC) 1:08, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Nice work...[edit | edit source]
As the resident South African here i thought I should tell you... that Boer War article... it is really good. You should have it Peed. --Dame 14:08, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
--Sog1970 15:27, 3 June 2009 (UTC) Thanks, but I'm a thick Welshman and I wouldn't know how
- Well, I'm quite thick myself but I'd be happy to help if you have any questions. Your best bet would be to read the Beginner's Guide and get adopted. --Dame 15:37, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
--Sog1970 21:30, 3 June 2009 (UTC) Okay, blame yourseelf then. I worked out what little I know about wiki formatting from copyong other people but I'm struggling with putting pictures into info boxes, or how to resize pictures to make them fit the text better. And I'm basically too lazy and stupid to go looking for pages of advice. Plus, I suppose I'd like to have stuff reviewed, assuming they'll all tell me how wonderful I am, but don't know how. BTW I'm not generally anti-south african - just living in Botswana gives you a different angle on RSA. --Sog1970 21:35, 3 June 2009 (UTC) Also, looked at your photoshop stuff - wish I had either the skill or imagination to do those. --Sog1970 21:41, 3 June 2009 (UTC) And in further addition because I know how rivetted you must be - I had this idea about starting alist of collective nouns - A vomit of students etc- of which I once had a long list, some of which may even have been funny. But I figure this would never be more than a stub so how do I recruit additions?
- Woody's comment below is some sound advice, I know it is a pain to read but it is all pretty simple once you get the hang of it. I didn't know any wikiformatting when I got here but I learned by reading the Beginner's Guide, I have a very helpfull adoptive father and asking questions of talk pages usually gets a good answer once you get past the initial sarcasm. As for pictures, to quote Modus:
- First, save the file to your own personal computer, right there on its harddrive, then upload the pic to Uncyc's spacious and luxuriously appointed server.
- Images go on pages like this
- Full size
- With a caption (XXXpx is the displayed image width in pixels}
- Right (or left. Center too.)
- You can add more than one option, for instance:
- appears on the page like this:
- There's also this, which explains a bunch of things.
- Another important thing to read is HTBFANJS. It is very educational.
- As for your list idea, lists are generally frowned on around here and I don't really write much, if you get adopted your adopter might be able to help with that.
- As for the anti-SouthAfrican thing, I'm not offended at all, I'm from there and I have a warped opinion of the place.
- And thanks for the potatochop compliment, if you ever need a custom image go to UN:PIC or leave a message on my talk page. --Dame 22:47, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Just a few things[edit | edit source]
Hey, just a heads up, put your signature on the end of all your posts. If you want, you can sign using just four tildes (~) like this ~~~~ at the end of all of your posts. That will leave your signature and timestamp. Also, your posts are running together right now. Easiest way to fix that is to reply to someone else by puting a colon in front of your post.
- Like this.

Sonje is right, take some time to read the Beginner's Guide, and you shouldn't have any problems. It's mighty helpful. Any other questions, just let me know, or get yourself an adopter. Good luck! Woody On Fire! Talking Woody Stalking Woody 21:52, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Boer War[edit | edit source]
I like this ! One minor change I would make is to replace 'Kaffirs'. It is ok to use in the context of a speech or document , or a pseudo-historical setting that is time dated to that era but otherwise I think it doesn't sit well with the rest of it and could be replaced. Let me know what you think otherwise I would like to nominate it for VFH.--RomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate). 14:57, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Just an add. It has to go via Pee thing first but otherwise I can't see any other problem with it. --RomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate). 14:58, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
--Sog1970 17:18, 4 June 2009 (UTC) Thanks. But I'd sufficiently dim that I don't know how to submit things to pee review. Editted the piece though.
- Things only have to be reviewed before VFH if the author of the article is nominating them. Romartus, you could still nominate it if you want. Sog, the review page is here, and all you have to do is follow the little paragraph or so of instructions down at the bottom of the page, and your article will be submitted for a hopefully speedy review. Also, nice work I've seen, I came here to compliment you on that Mrs God's blog page. Kudos =) -RAHB 22:07, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
- --Sog1970 22:14, 4 June 2009 (UTC) That's very kind. I didn't think antone would actually see that one.
- I agree, that's another VFH candidate. Would someone adopt this guy already! --Dame 22:17, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's pretty clever. As an admin, I generally monitor all of the new articles, so I was bound to see it. But yours was one of the rare 1% that I enjoyed, and wasn't a candidate for deletion. (Sonje, I hope you realize that's the second edit conflict I've gotten today. No big deal, I'm only going to have to kill you in cold blood) -RAHB 22:18, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
- I think I'd get some kind of sick pleasure out of being murdered in cold blood by you RAHB. --Dame 22:20, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
- I don't want to know about your strange South-African fetishes, Sonje. I've got plenty trouble keeping up with my own strange South-Californian fetishes. Seriously. If I let them out of my site for one second, they completely tear the place apart. And good luck explaining something like that to your landlord. -RAHB 22:35, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

It appears that User:Sog1970Boer War was in the wrong location. I went ahead and moved it to its proper location User:Sog1970/Boer War (and I also removed a link to a non-existent category, those mess up wiki maintenance). Once more.[edit | edit source]
Hey Sog. I think most of your articles around here are looking great. You seem to be a very very talanted writer. Good work. I hope it won't offend you to ask that you look over what I wrote up above. Just the two simple things. You should sign your wall posts at the end of the post, and not the begining. Easiest way to do that is just put four ~ at the end, like this: ~~~~~. Putting that at the end will sign and timestamp your post. Second, if you are replying to a post by someone else, we generally indent our posts to break up different people's posts. To do this, just put a Colon ( : ) in front of what you write. So, if I were to reply to my own message, I would do so.....
- Like this. I just put a : in front of "Like" and it indents it for me. Look at the code if you need to. It's very simple but it is the best way to break up different people's posts.
Past that, you are doing a fantastic job around here. Please keep up the very good work. Woody On Fire! Talking Woody Stalking Woody 20:59, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

On reviews and such[edit | edit source]
Hey Sog, Saber here. I noticed you did a couple of reviews over at PR. That's good, but did you read the guidelines? Typically, people want more than just a few lines of dialogue, and while it's good you're doing some reviews and helping to clear the queue, you need to spend a little more time on them. Don't take this as a demand for you to stop reviewing- you can review all you want, but try to be more in-depth and offer specific solutions. Cheers, and I hope to see you around the wiki! What I did with my hos, or something like that.[edit | edit source]
Okay, I'm not doing a full review as they take too damned long to complete, but a quick thumbnail review.
The concept is good. I like the setup/intro that you have at the start. I don't know if I would be including the "woe betide me" bit as you're bringing in a voice from a third party into the piece in the introduction. It's effectively introducing the character by proxy who then you don't mention again. The rest of it is good as it gives a catalyst for the following, but that one phrase doesn't suit the voice for the remainder.
The older brother inclusion I loved, along with the idea of the family being white trash. If you haven't seen this before, then have a look at my trailer park. I kept thinking of this while reading through your piece. I don't think it's as polished as your article, but I'm sure you'll recognise the similarities.
Now the best thing about this is that I'm a white Australian, looking a piece that is Canadian Anglo-Welsh, having it remind me of something that is distinctly American. Does that answer your question about it being too Anglo-centric?
Beyond that the only other creative element I would potentially put in here is the occasional mispeling misspelling.
But I'd suggest throw this one up for PEEreview and see what comes back as the feedback, and then work it from there. I don't think it's quite at FA level yet, but it's not far from it. (Although there have been a couple of things featured in the past that I would suggest putting up for VFD, so while I'm happy to give advice on what can be done with an article, I'm not always the best judge of what is popular.) Punk Floyd[edit | edit source]
Hope you don't take the against vote badly, what I think would really make a huge difference is the intro being changed a little. It leads in too directly at the moment (and I don't feel this is self-referential, or is it?). I feel it should introduce what "Punk Floyd" is (to a hypothetical retard) rather than jumping straight into talking about what they did. The article as a whole is awesome (I'm more a fan of the earlier stuff than the prog stuff, so I appreciate things like See Emily Die, very nice touch). --El Sid, the lazy one • parlez-vous franglais? 08:59, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

I thought I'd bring the conversation over here[edit | edit source]
- Hey, in regards to what I said on VFH, I have no issue with your asking, and I have the same reaction to when people do similar comments on my stuff. I read the PEE on this, and I gave you feedback separately. The reason why I put the comment about the "right place" for feedback is because it's written somewhere (and I still cannot recall where, but I'll find it when I have a chance) and because it's a little self defeating. Because what you write is this:
“ | I pity the fool who don't think this is a shit hot article. You got something to say, come and say it to my face. Feel the pain! | ” |
- What people hear is:
“ | I'm a whining babyface who has his panties in a twist because you're all being meanie poo-bums and I don't like you any more and I'm taking my bat and ball and going home. | ” |
- Now I don't think you're whining or anything to that effect, but somebody criticised me when I put a similar comment down on one of my VFHs, and I dont want to see you unfairly criticised for honestly asking for feedback - I'd rather that people judge your article on the strength of your article. (Which is so close to being a feature, it would be a bitch to have it knocked back because of some stupid knee-jerk reaction to your asking for feedback.)
- Oh, and TFK is being a little gung-ho on people putting comments down badly in VFH, so make sure you don't mess up the numbering when you do. I got told off the other day for that too. (I get told off for a lot, when I think about it.) Pup
Couldn't disagree more. I'm not asking people to change vote, or telling them they're wrong or stupid. I just want people to have the courage to give a reason. If they have no reason they shouldn't vote at all--Sog1970 14:24, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- The thing is Sog, and it's frustrating I know, nobody's obligated to explain their vote on VFH. Ever. That's just the way it is and always has been. Starting a fuss about it will only go badly for anybody who tries. If you really are curious about the reasoning behind any particular vote, you'll have far more luck just dropping a polite note on the voter's talk page. Even then though, nobody's obligated to respond. -OptyC Sucks! CUN21:23, 12 Aug

What I did on my hols[edit | edit source]
I noticed (just now, actually) the comment you left on the article's VFH page. Since, as a writer, I absolutely hate it when people vote Against my articles without justifying why, I thought I'd explain my vote here.
Now, I must admit that a large amount of my Against vote had to do not with the article's quality, but with my own personal tastes. I'm one of those people who finds vulgar-type humor really unappealing. As soon as I saw the "Not Safe For Work" template, I was somewhat put off. I found the line "makes the milk look like diarrhea" and the constant bits about masturbation and the naked fat women (as well as numerous other things) not funny, but vulgar, and, dare I say, stupid (at least, again, according to my own tastes). If I wanted to be less constructive and more insulting, I'd some your article up with the words "Welsh Adam Sandler Movie Without Adam Sandler." Now, I know you wrote this in a satirical, self-aware-type way, but that still doesn't change the fact that the whole thing comes off as being incredibly lowbrow, and in the bad sort of way (this, again, according to my own sensibilities).
In terms of the 'quality' question, there wasn't much wrong. I thought your picture placement was extremely poor (all on the right side, all jumbled and different sizes, with the final one just hanging there, going far below where the text actually ends), but that's more of a nitpick than anything else. I also thought the constant bolding of things was both unnecessary and inconsistently done, but, again, that's really just a nitpick.
All-in-all, I try to avoid voting Against whenever possible, because as someone who has stuff make it to VFH a lot, I know as well as anyone how fucking annoying a needless Against vote on the would-be eve of a feature can be. However, in the case of your article, between my offputedness and the (admittedly trifling) formatting issues, I had to vote Against. Sorry. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 22:40, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- fair enough but a "Juvenile, lowbrow and badly formatted" would have at least let me know why. I might have done something about the formatting, though not the juvenile, lowbrow-ness as that's rather the point. I was more irritated with people simply saying "As per you" when you hadn't actually said anything. That really sucks--Sog1970 08:44, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Though, actually I think things look neater with the pictures all on the right and the last one may hang free on your browser, but doesn't on mine.
- Yeah, "Per X Users" are really annoying. And I have a 17" monitor, so that's probably why the last image hangs. Thanks for understanding, though. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 19:28, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Flash: Flash Gordon Pee Reviewed[edit | edit source]
At the request of User:I'mthedaddy, I did a Pee Review of Flash Gordon based on revision 4103367 (Revision as of 20:18, September 13, 2009). It took me longer than 24 hours to get to it, but is quicker than I promised. I saw some fancy template for saying this, but don't know where it is. In any case, I hope the review helps. King of the Internet Alden Loveshade??? (royal court) 02:09, September 16, 2009 (UTC)
This is in regard to our discussion on my user page about whether or not to mention President Franklin Delano Roosevelt as being the current president in the Flash Gordon article. I said I didn't think that worked, and you had said Wikipedia put them in "modern day", being the 1930s, which would include FDR.
According to Wikipedia, "In this series, Flash, Dale, and Dr. Zarkov worked for the Galaxy Bureau of Investigation, approximately 1200 years in the future." But the various versions of Flash Gordon weren't at all consistent on their timeline, and the parts of the Uncyclopedia article I liked the best set it in the 1930s, so ignore my unhelpful comment about not mentioning Roosevelt--sorry about that. Use him if you will. King of the Internet Alden Loveshade??? (royal court) 19:40, September 18, 2009 (UTC)
I'm responding to your comment on my user page about Flash Gordon here so you'll see it. I'll definitely check out the current version of FG. And in answer to your question, I am still nominated as NotM, but you really don't have to feel obligated to vote for me even if you do like they way I PEE did your Pee Review. Vote as you see fit. I know I can vote for myself, but don't plan to--I'm too new to know if I deserve it or not. King of the Internet Alden Loveshade??? (royal court) 04:20, September 20, 2009 (UTC)
- Doesn't look like you need my vote but you get it anyway
- Thanks. King of the Internet Alden Loveshade??? (royal court) 18:31, September 26, 2009 (UTC)
Flash Gordon got my vote, and not because you voted for me (frankly, I voted for before I even read this, and as the comment is unsigned, I'm still not sure who voted, but that's OK). I'm glad my Pee Review helped, and I like the article much, much better. And your rewording of the caption to the Roosevelt-spaceship photo turned something I didn't like into something I do. I just made a few minor grammar and spelling fixes--check and see if I screwed anything up. King of the Internet Alden Loveshade??? (royal court) 18:38, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

The Who: My Re-Generation[edit | edit source]
I read your article. This may be an example of a great-sounding idea that's extremely difficult to pull off. I loved the beginning, and in fact laughed at the title--love it. But unfortunately you may have a situation where only people who are both rabid Who fans and rabid Doctor Who fans will get it. Mixing two different things like this is very tricky in a encyclopediac format. I noticed your Who parts are a great deal more detailed than your Doctor Who parts, and of course you explained you know more about the group than the Doctor. Personally, I suspect this could work as a short article with references that even casual fans would get (I don't know enough about the Who to get many of the references). But I don't know how to pull it off at its current length. Maybe as a short UnBook or something? I'm not saying it couldn't be done as a long article, I just don't know how. And unfortunately I don't know Who could help. King of the Internet Alden Loveshade??? (royal court) 19:49, September 18, 2009 (UTC)

A word from your new insect computer WotM[edit | edit source]
for supporting my nomination for Writer of the Month.
I would like to take this opportunity to announce my shift away from writing. The reason is very simple.
As the intelligence of the average Internet user has exponentially decayed, Internet media in general has seen major paradigm shifts, from newsgroups to webcomics to lolcats. Clearly writing is dying, and Photoshop is taking its place. Visual puns such as the one at left are just as funny, and take massively less effort.
Get it? MacMania? A Macintosh wearing a Scottish kilt (because the username begins with "Mac") gone mad (and therefore transformed into a Dalek)? Oh, forget it, I'm sticking to writing.
