VFH

Hiya, Mr. VFH guy. I understand that you're the big cheese around these parts when it comes to highlight. Thusly, I feel it only fair to direct your attention to my forum post regarding a change in VFH paradigm. Please take a little while to get acquainted with the new idea as well as my tentative sandbox regarding this change.-Sir Ljlego, GUN VFH FIYC WotM SG WHotM PWotM AotM EGAEDM ANotM + (Talk) 22:57, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Interesting - it would definitely make the process more elegant. I'm going to play around with it a bit and I'll get back to you (or more probably post in the Forum topic). —rc (t) 23:36, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

I have a solution that will allow for all VFH nominations to be simultaneously added to a master page (which I believe should be protected upon the trial run of this). However, I need to ask a question about some code. Is there a way to make <inputbox> create two pages?-Sir Ljlego, GUN VFH FIYC WotM SG WHotM PWotM AotM EGAEDM ANotM + (Talk) 00:22, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Unfortunately I don't know the answer - you should probably ask Algorithm or Spang. I am, alas, technically impaired when it comes to coding. —rc (t) 00:36, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Alright, well, I've got a new fix idea going on. It will make everything more automated and generally easier. It does quite a few things. For example, the list of all noms is completely automated right now. Also, once Wikia gets off its lazy ass and updates <DPL>, I believe that we'll have a page that preloads all of the current voting tables. One week is the tentative date for this implementation, and once I do and fix up the code a bit, then this may be ready for a pilot run.-Sir Ljlego, GUN VFH FIYC WotM SG WHotM PWotM AotM EGAEDM ANotM + (Talk) 01:44, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
All right - just let me know when you've got stuff hammered out and I'll take a looksy. —rc (t) 03:09, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
We got updated, so here we go. What you're going to want to do to test is this. When you go into the code of User:Ljlego/VFH you'll see <DPL> tags. What is in there defines how the pages are sorted. Right now it's by "firstedit." This sorts it by page creation, and this setting can be tinkered to your liking. Just let me know what you may want. It is also ordered in ascending or descending order. This will allow you to practically do the "Upside-down Saturdays" thing should you choose to (by simply changing the "order=" from ascending to descending and vice versa). Let me know what you think. I also tinkered with the vote table code, so create a new nomination and take a look-see at that. Turns out the tinkered code sucked. Forget I said that. But creating a new nomination would still be a good idea. Let me know what you think either here or on my talk page (your preference).-Sir Ljlego, GUN VFH FIYC WotM SG WHotM PWotM AotM EGAEDM ANotM + (Talk) 14:50, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
All right then - I'll look at it today when I have some time. —rc (t) 16:48, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Do you intend to have a simple list of nominated articles (a la the Dump) or to list the nom templates like you have it set up now? The current style list is exactly what I need to tally votes, but I presume that'll be moved to a separate page to keep the load times for the VFH portal fast? —rc (t) 04:19, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Well, here's the thing. I've been thinking, and it seems as if people are not happy with the idea of VFH being like the Dump. This format still uses the separate pages bit, but then includes them on the main page. I could always make both and take a vote. As for TKF's statement, I could make it like that, but then again I don't think I'd want to. However, again, we could always vote on it. There's a whole cache of untapped possibilities for this, and if you say the word I'll find out if (and if so, how) I can do it.-Sir Ljlego, GUN VFH FIYC WotM SG WHotM PWotM AotM EGAEDM ANotM + (Talk) 20:50, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

One year ago today

Ok, done and working. See the example here. This way doesn't require any extra pages to be created, now or in the future (as long as the FA template and procedure stays the same), and accounts for the gap when we featured once every 2 days. The format and wording can change however you like. It could also automatically include a bit of the text of the article if you like, the first 10 words or something.

The only problems with it so far are that it won't work currently on pages that don't use the standard {{FH}} template, or use the standard date format (like AAAAAAAAA!, for example). But those articles are easily found and easily fixed by adding a modified and hidden FA template to the article.

Also, <technical stuff> because the dpl extension can't put the page name in an external link properly or a template, and the old revision id can't go in a normal wiki link </technical stuff>, though it links to the featured revision, and that featured revision is what you see, mediawiki thinks that it's the Main Page, or (now) Uncyclopedia:Thisisabugdonteditthispage, and all the tabs at the top link to that page. Editing the old revision will also give you the text from the old revision, but save it to that different page when you press save. Which is odd. It might be better in a way to be unable to save the old revision linked from the main page anyway.

Well there you go. What was the other thing I was supposed to be doing? Spang talk 05:04, 29 Jun 2007

Brilliant! I'll implement it today. Probably. What kinds of modifications have to be made for the special FA template?
As for the other thing, was it the VFH revamp? Or possibly a paid vacation to Vanuatu? —rc (t) 19:33, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Okay, it should be working properly now. I don't think I broke anything in the process. —rc (t) 20:21, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Cool, well I'll probably be able to just did modify the FA template so you can add hidden=true to it to hide it and just include the important bits, and that'd make it all work fine. So it'd look like {{FA|revision=12345|date=DD MMMM YYYY|hidden=true}} on binary or whatever.
Hmmm, paid break or more coding? Tough choice to be sure. Wait, what do I get paid? Nothing?! I'm going on strike. Spang talk 08:56, 29 Jun 2007

VFH

Nope, I just can't leave you alone about this. However, I have good reason for what I'm doing. It seems from the vote that the new VFH paradigm shift is well-liked (at least by people who frequent the Village Dump or the VFH page). We should give the topic about three more days, see what other responses we get. Then, we have to decide which to use as the frontpage. I personally think the full VFH should be used as the front, and the summary can used by you to determine what to kill. I'll get on one-click code for that (on the summary page, as Spang's done it on the tables already) when I'm done. Also, we have to figure out when we're going to protect VFH and make the switch. Unlike with VFP's switch, this is a big thing that needs to be done in one fell swoop. It's going to take a little bit of manpower, but we can do it in a timely fashion, I think. I'd say once we close the vote, that night, at time of feature, you protect the page, copy the nomination and DPL code, and start moving tables. I'd do it myself, but I haven't the ability to protect pages nor the desire to do something that drastic to your baby. Reply here, let me know what you think.-Sir Ljlego, GUN VFH FIYC WotM SG WHotM PWotM AotM EGAEDM ANotM + (Talk) 13:47, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

I did have the feature/remove links on both pages, but it seems I accidentally took them out at some point. Anyway, those links use the same .featurecode class as the VFH template, so only you (or anyone else who adds it) should be able to see that. To mark an article as featured, just click "feature" and then press save, and that should be all you need to do on the VFH page. "Remove" does similar, but with the correct categories. You might want to play with the mock-up version first a bit.
Oh, and (seeing as it's getting a good response from the forum) when we do implement it, the nominations are going to have to be copied across to sub-pages from bottom to top, in order, to keep their order the same. I suppose I'll volunteer for that. Spang talk 03:29, 09 Jul 2007
I'll help.-Sir Ljlego, GUN VFH FIYC WotM SG WHotM PWotM AotM EGAEDM ANotM + (Talk) 15:32, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
I experimented with the prototype a bit and I think I get how it works, mostly (at least, I understand all the stuff I need to know). I still think the summary should be the initial VFH page, but it's not that big a deal, especially if other people don't have loading issues. So it looks good to go in a couple days. —rc (t) 17:54, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
I have a silly request, so long as we're fiddling with this and finalizing things. Is there a way to highlight something that's received no for votes in two weeks? This would make stagnation removal easier. Not that it's hard now, understand, but... well... I'm lazy.--<<Bradmonogram.png>> 23:41, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

A "last edit" column or line could be put in, but only at the expense of the "nomination age" column on the summary page. It might be possible to put the last edit date on the full page, and highlight it if it's older than a certain amount, but that would probably affect load times, and there's no way for it to tell the difference between fors and againsts, aside from the pure numbers. A moment of your time?

Hi, i'm trying to find good stuff for the Uncyclopedia:Bureaucrats article to save it from being deleted. I figured that an interview with an actual bureaucrat would fit in nicely. Would you mind one? If not, thank you for reading this. Conniving 19:24, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Sure sure! I'd be happy to. Give me some tough questions. —rc (t) 22:03, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
Err, mind going to my talk page for this? It's easier for me to notice that way, like a PM. Conniving 22:24, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
More have been posted. Admittedly, i'm running out of ideas. If I do think up any more questions, i'll tell you. And don't forget to check the Uncyclopedia:Bureaucrats article. I've already started posting things. Conniving 23:48, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
All righty. You might ask some other bureaus and use the best answers for the article if you want a wider range. —rc (t) 23:58, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
I added two more questions. And i've asked the other bureaucrats. You're the only one to answer back so far. On Keitei's page, Mhaille said that they were inactive. Conniving 00:03, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi

I don't know if you honestly did it but when you gave me admin and crat it didn't work. OneCoolKid 00:40, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Hm, how odd. I'll look into the system and jiggle some handles when I get the chance. —rc (t) 05:10, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Kudos...

...on helping out with Conniving's rewrite. You're the cheese on the burger of comedy. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 00:41, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Don't know if he saw, but there's just a few more questions on my talk page. Conniving 00:47, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Rc sees all, a side effect, methinks, of being a brain in a jar. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 00:51, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
I guess he got tired of it. Crap! To think, there were only two more.... >_< Conniving 00:54, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Sorry! I had "real life" to deal with. I'll get on those last two straightaway. And being the cheese is all right, but I'd rather be the little bits of automobile tire that you get in school cafeteria burgers. They add texture. And that's what I'd like to think I bring to Uncyc... texture. And idiocy. —rc (t) 04:59, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for sticking to the automobile theme of the page. :) Conniving 12:44, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Has Template:Fundraiser been added to the notice yet?

I haven't seen it anywhere yet... --L 03:11, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

It was, but zombiebaron removed it without giving a reason I saw anywhere. Maybe you should ask him. Spang talk 03:15, 02 Nov 2007

Aww nuts! We gotta unlock Template:Fundraiser again!

Look at what those bottoms have done now! And I was just getting desensitised to their old template. --L 06:11, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

(Well, actually, let's just use Template:Fundraiser2.)
Done. —rc (t) 07:31, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
Oh, wait a minute! That people-meter bar that Fundraiser2 uses is actually milking bandwidth directly from Wikimedia. I forgot to replace it with an Uncyclopedia-hosted copy that I just made right now (Image:Donation_meter2.png). Oops. Oh, and could you replace the "Donate now" link with Image:Donation_button.png, please?
Somebody got there before me. —rc (t) 19:15, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
I hate it when that happens. -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb.png (talk to me)

I'm creating a CafePress Shop about Uncyclopedia and decided to use the designs on the shop page. Can I have permission to use the Potato Logo and how can I get in touch to give you a share of the profits? --NXWave 21:25, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

I actually released the potato logo under a less restrictive license (see here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Uncyclopedia.png - uploaded by Splarka but under my direction) - GFDL/CC-BY-SA, meaning it can be used for commercial purposes by anyone. However, you can't use the word "uncyclopedia" because the name is owned by Wikia. But the potato is free game. —rc (t) 18:55, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

When adding quotes on QDB...

...Please remember to check them before approving!! --AAA! (AAAA) 06:34, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

If that was the quote referring to Starnes' Jewness, I consider that a perfectly legitimate entry. —rc (t) 15:02, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

:)

No way, I'm putting it right at the top, and there's nothing you can do about it. But serious, how's it going? —Braydie 18:10, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

All right, all right. I haven't been editing much... still a bit more immersed in the physical world lately. And yourself? —rc (t) 20:19, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Same really, that real life is such a bitch. Anything interesting going on there for you? —Braydie 23:35, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Graduation in a few months. Then... my world tour! —rc (t) 00:27, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
:O which cities/countries? :O —Braydie 01:58, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Make sure Oklahoma is one of the places, because I haven't creeped my wife out with online people showing up at my house enough.--<<Bradmonogram.png>> 23:49, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, when I say "world tour" I mean hopefully I'll get a position studying or teaching abroad next year, location very much undetermined. And Brad, I've already been to your house many times. You've never wondered where those footprints outside your bedroom window came from? —rc (t) 20:53, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
