Nice and tidy

There, my talk page is nice and tidy now; go ahead and make a mess of it again. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 02:45, 3 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Woooooooooooooo!

  • Coffee stains

NRV

So what's this about changing the NRV tag without consulting anybody, hmm? Nazi! --KATIE!! 17:10, 11 Jan 2006 (UTC)

I was the one who made that change in the first place without consulting anybody. Then I changed my mind about the motivations behind my initial modification. My thoughts on the matter were, what happens if I come across a page that's marked NRV but which I think is a good page; what do I do? Removing the tag can result in a ban, but I like the page so I want the NRV tag off. Banning someone for removing a NRV tag is wrong. Hmmm, now that I think about it, the right solution is to say that a NRV tag may only be removed if it is being replaced by a vfd tag. I'll go re-refix NRV. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 19:42, 11 Jan 2006 (UTC)

NRV

Why you put every my pages this template?!:

Why you not put this instead?:

YOU'RE WINNER!
Congratulations! You have reached the End of the Internet! Where would you like to go? East? West? North? South? Outside?
Now, go away, because I'm afraid that this article could be a stub, because this template is no moon.
Note: This article is Bob Barker-approved.
Really, it is.

My template choice is a question of quality. I find that your articles contain barely readable English and hold no humor value for me. If you disagree with my analysis of your pages, feel free to change it from {{NRV}} to {{vfd}}, and list it on VFD with a note that you think it should be kept and are putting it there to remove a NRV tag. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 18:56, 15 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Jan 28th, National Fine Print Day

Suggestion for Uncyclopedia Skining:

http://en.uncyclopedia.co/wiki/Fp: We'd have to modify the Selected anniversaries and make Jan 28th, "National Fine Print Day".

--Keithhackworth MUN 17:54, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

That's fantastically clever. Unfortunately, I probably won't be around at a good time to make the changeover, so I recommend suggesting it to another admin; IRC is a good way to do that quickly. Also, if you convince people to do it tomorrow, drop me a note and I'll change tomorrow's word of the day to 'legalese'. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 21:31, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

I had some things come up, and was unable to get it done. Perhaps Jan 31st? --Keithhackworth MUN 12:32, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

I'd rather not have it happen on the 31st. We're running "strategery" as the word of the day to mark the State of the Union Address. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 18:33, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

China

Hmm... My campaign to embarass the PRC leadership got twarted. Don't you approve of provoking rederects as such or did you think this was an unclear one? ?--Suresh simple.png Swami A. Suresh 07:30, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

I get the joke and do find it kind of funny, but I'm a stickler for things being in the right place and that redirect just makes thing sdifficult for people trying to obtain information about China. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 15:43, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

OK. No confusing redirects. Next time then I'll create a page of Totally Unaffectous Diplomacy and redirect it to PRC . Clear as Crystal.--Suresh simple.png Swami A. Suresh 18:43, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Alternatively, you could try writing something in the PRC article or replacing the redirect at China with a comedically inspired disambiguation page. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 19:11, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Wow... that was really nice!

It has recently come to my attention that on the 24th of January, you nominated me for Sysop! I, being the complete gormless bastard I am, never even knew about it, and only found out when Todd Lyons posted a reference to it on my talk page. I just want to thank you (a bit late, I know) for your vote of confidence, even if I do feel less than worthy at the moment. I read the archive comment on the VFS page, and I'm glad that you feel I'm actually helping by my constant anal-retentive watchdog behavior. Perhaps someday soon I can actually figure out how to go on IRC again (something I haven't done since my college years during the Second Crusade for Jerusalem) and begin to contribute in ways other than critiquing useless crap. So once again, a sincere thanks to you, and a deep bow in case you happen to be in Japan at the moment! --The King In Yellow (Talk to the Dalek.) 17:34, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Cthulhu

I think we should talk about this. Why the pointless merge tag, etc? Jack Cain 06:32, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

The removal of all the lists at the bottom was in accordance with a general Uncyclopedia policy of not allowing long content-free lists of links. The merge tag was placed because both Cthulhu and Cthulu exist and are (in theory) about the same thing and as such, the content of both articles should be merged into Cthulhu and Cthulu should be turned into a redirect; that's the way we do things here. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 18:18, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Though, it looks like you've been around long enough to know how things work around here; could you be a little more specific about your issues with my edits? Sorry for reverting your revert so hastily; I assumed you were a n00b. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 18:20, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Eh.....forget it, just do as you like with it, neither is my article or anything. Jack Cain 22:20, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Redirect

I found the Medea article amusing inspite of being too short, I didn't want to NRV or VFD it, so i sent its content to Greek mythology and made it a redirect. The thing is that I'm not sure I'm allowed to do that. Am I? If I'm not I can take it back, but then I suggest an admind do the same or just give me a retroactive permission.--Rataube 18:55, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

There's no good reason I can think of why you wouldn't be allowed to do that. You're making a positive contribution to both articles and it's equivalent to the proper handling method of {{eat}} or {{merge}}. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 20:32, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

kitten huffers anonymous

Hi, while I appreciate your work at keeping alot of junk off of pages, I really simply disagree with your decision to continue to delete the KHA section in kitten huffing... Why do you do that? I think it is hilarious, now only your sense of humor counts?? I looked and it doesnt appear that you initated the page so why do you get to axe our section...

Furthermore, the KHA group has been instrumental to me not only does k-train find me kittens when I fall off the VERY small wagon (you do understand what being on the wagon is right?) but when i try to get back into the wagon other KHA members are there to give me a boost!!! I think it is very important to advertise KHA so that other chapters can be formed around the country...

what the problem is???

The problem is that the Kitten Huffers Anonymous section is poorly written, poorly formatted and funny in concept but not implementation. I get the idea, it has potential, but the implementation is crap. Also, I am of the opinion that Kitten Huffing is about as long as it needs to be right now. As a resolution to the matter, I have split Kitten Huffers Anonymous off as a separate page, please make it a worthy article. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 21:39, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Wha happa?

Heyaz, Gwax. Sorry to pester you, but I was just going back through the VFD's, and I notice that you decided to keep 'n' stub Super Smash Bros. Curious (morbidly, I admit,) I went back to the article to see if it had improved since I voted -- nope. Still not funny, still sucks hind wind. So my question is this: why keep it when the vote count was 10-2 in favor of Deleting it? And would I be out of place putting an NRV tag on it? --The King In Yellow (Talk to the Dalek.) 21:02, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

I must be going senile. I'd swear there were more keep votes under that listing. Oh well, nothing a quick delete can't solve. Thanks for double checking me. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 21:35, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
No prob! You think you've got it bad; I went the entire day yesterday with my sweater on inside out and backwards. Damn master's thesis is killing me. --The King In Yellow (Talk to the Dalek.) 17:21, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Moved from VFD - Oscar Wilde quotes

I'd go the route of writing an actual article about how to make up Oscar Wilde quotes and use as few examples as possible, then include a linke to Wilde, where people can see more examples. That way the page will have genuine content instead of being a giant pile of crap. Go ahead, delete tons of stuff and if anyone gives you a hard time, let me know and I'll use my admin clout to yell at them. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 20:08, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

  • gwax, I'm glad you're taking a positive approach to this; you've always been one of my favorite admins, though I've never really understood why, precisely... Anyway, what you're suggesting isn't exactly going to make me Mister Popularity around here, so if I do agree to take this on - and it's a big job - can I at least get some assurance that the other quotes pages are reasonably safe? And do you really have that much clout? And I assume you're aware of HowTo:Make up quotes, which while hardly stellar, is probably Nerd42's best article on the whole site?  c • > • cunwapquc? 20:48, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the compliment. Now, I'm not quite sure what you mean about the other quote pages being "reasonably safe"; are you asking me to not delete them? are you planning to rewrite all of them? are you asking that they be left as is? As far as worrying about backlash, I recommend starting a thread on the Village Dump announcing that you plan to rewrite the making up quotes pages to actually be what they're supposed to be, I'll voice my support and then we can see if we can get enough other people rallied behind us that you won't actually be unpopular with the bigwigs. Beyond that, dealing with random people getting pissed off that you're deleting crappy content that they like is easily accomplished and something that I've had to do on a number of occasions. In the end, I'm willing to take responsibility in the face of common users if you come under heavy fire, so long as we can get some other admins to ok the project. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 21:00, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

  • Gwax, I've already rewritten them... Look at the pages, and the page histories, and compare the pre-SU and post-SU versions for Einstein, Churchill, God, Anonymous, etc. (What I do is take the whole page out of the edit window, dump it into UltraEdit, work it up, and post it back in one major edit. So in nearly all cases the earliest, and maybe only, edit you see from me is the rewrite, along with all the shiny new pics. Everything after that is touch-up and maintenance.) I just didn't feel like I could delete large portions of them - though I did delete some stuff - without upsetting all the nice people. Hopefully I'm wrong about that! I also don't want to be seen as "taking over"; maybe I am, but it's not in my nature to do that. But I do want to see this stuff moved into its own namespace, with a nice logo of its own (see Uncyclopedia:Logos#QuoteUnquote:), and maybe expanded into other quotable people, if there's some humor value in them... and at the same, time, get the chaff thrown out. But to answer your first question, of course I don't want them deleted, I'd like to ensure that they look substantially the way they do now, but to ask that they be left "as-is" is unreasonable, is it? This is a wiki, and I would never ask that. Besides, if a few of my entries get thrown out in someone else's cleanup attempt, I'm not going to whine about it.  c • > • cunwapquc? 21:36, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Actually, I recommend "taking over", so to speak. Some of the best parts of Uncyclopedia are those that have been adopted by someone. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that any article that doesn't have at least one devoted guardian/editor tends to go to crap. I could cite dozens of examples of pages that survive only because they've been adopted by someone. Don't think of it as taking over and don't act like the ruler of the pages, just take an active role in them and slowly weed out the chaff and eventually you'll be the person in charge, whether you like it or not (that's how I got stuck with VFD and a number of other pages). Besides, you're a good judge of things, only n00bs and idiots are going to question your actions and all but the unreasonable ones can be handled by explaining what's up. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 21:53, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

  • Okay, gwax, it's a deal, though I think that's pretty much what's going on right now, i.e., already. Mhaille is taking a keen interest in this stuff too, by the way... He can do the messy "guardian" stuff, I'll just be the editor when he doesn't have any extra time on his hands. (Actually, I spell the word "being" better than he does, so maybe I should do most of the editing.) Maybe there's no way in this case to avoid rubbing some people the wrong way, but hey, it's not like I ever want to be an admin, and I've already got more awards than I probably need... Anyway, thanks, and I'm sorry about all this turning into a bigger deal than necessary!  c • > • cunwapquc? 22:16, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

No problem, I'm just glad to see progress be made on those (once) God foresaken articles. Oh, and you'd best be careful if you're going to keep doing good things for Uncyclopedia or someone just might try to make an admin out of you someday. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 00:35, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

  • Don't worry, I'll be extra careful. Anyway, the move is mostly complete now; I just have to do something about the preponderance of Oscar Wilde quote pages. That may have to wait until the weekend... But the rest of them are taken care of. I'd like to leave the redirects in place for a while, maybe even indefinitely, but that's your call, of course! Trojan War (video game)

I clicked the linkie dinkie expecting the Adventures of Trojan Man, and was pleasantly surprised. I'd try to help, but my knowledge of Greek culture is limited to my knowledge of the resistor color code. You see, resistance is measured in ohms, and the symbol is the Greek letter . And I dated a Greek girl in high school, too. Trust me, you don't want me doing anything more than copyediting, and you'd probably have to revert even that. -- Sir BobBobBob ! S ? Some user or some other user?

Gwax (by the way, is that "gee-wax" or "guh-wax"?) I was surprised to see the normally fully coherent Some user vote for keeping the highly questionable Shaun Boedicker article. However, on further review, his vote came from an anon. IP address (User:66.144.71.186) with a total of one contribution. Is this Some user forgetting to sign in or a sock puppet? — 2nd Lt. Sir David, the Weasel of Wild KUN VFH FP Icons-flag-us.png Fire! 14:52, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

FYI: It's gee-wax; the "g" is short for one thing, the "wax" is short for another and combined we get gwax. As to the question of who's posting in Some user's name, it's either that he forgot to log in or someone else is forging comments in his name; I couldn't tell you which it is, but I bet you could find out by asking him. If it turns out that someone is forging comments, let me know and I'll see that appropriate actions are taken. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 16:57, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
Indeed, that was a "forgery" - I suspect the person just copied it from my real entry (to delete, further up the list) for convenience. Thanks for noticing, WW... I can't imagine a ban is in order, unless it's a repeat/multiple offense. And to be fair, I've been making a mess of things on VFD lately by treating every appearance of TD's "Some Asshat" /sig as a straight-line. But if I ask him to stop, I'll look like a sanctimonious prick, right? (Or, indeed, an "asshat.") Interesting problem, but either way, there's nothing I love more than straight-lines. Btw, thanks for the NinjaStar, G - that's probably the last thing I expected to get cited for, though!  c • > • cunwapquc? 23:35, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

NRVous breakdown

Sorry, G, I honestly thought those five pages were VFD material. I'll admit, I'm more hesitant than most to put the NRV tag on things... It just seems like older articles written by AnonIP's and inactive users are always going to end up getting deleted that way, and VFD'ing them lets more people in on the decision - in case the tagger (me, in this case) is simply wrong. I guess this QA stuff is trickier than I thought!  c • > • cunwapquc? 06:00, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

The thing is, if you look at those articles and the way people generally vote, they're going to get 3 or 4 more delete votes between when I go to sleep and when I wake up tonight and as such, they'd live longer with NRV than with VFD. Really, the only reason to VFD articles like those is if you think it will expose the article to people that would like it enough to take it from where it is; VFD is basically for people to see if they're wrong about something not being funny, contest NRVs or as a clearing house for articles that should be rewritten post haste. In the end, I can still remember VFD before NRV existed so one or two people neglecting NRV is nothing in my book. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 06:10, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

I will do so but you'd do well to inform this friend of yours as to what is and is not acceptable behavior; namely VFD tags are not to be removed by anyone other than an admin and modifications to Uncyclopedia:Pages for deletion that are anything other than votes are not permitted. This can be considered me putting him on probation, so if I have reason to ban him again, I will be harsher than usual. Furthermore, if your friend were a registered user, he'd be more likely to receive a warning and explanation before receiving a ban. Cheers. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 21:12, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

Deletion

Quick question: Would it be legal to remove an NRV tag if you were going to replace it with a VFD? --Sir Tripod2282 Icons-flag-us.png cun vfp talk Active ~

Yeah, that's fine but it's generally not worth bothering. If you leave the article alone, it will be deleted eventually without any intervention. In those cases, it's generally a good idea to watch the page to see that no one removes the NRV tag. If someone does remove it, report them to Uncyclopedia:Ban Patrol as a NRV remover and revert the edit. Sometimes it takes a little longer than other times but almost invariably NRV will get an article nuked or improved eventually. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 15:42, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
Sidenote: you should usually sign things with four tildes (~~~~) so that signatures gets time stamped, people tend to appreciate it (especially on voting pages). --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 15:42, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

Marcus Allaman

The article was deleted because, so far as I and a few other admins could tell, it appeared to be a vanity page. If, however, it was not a vanity page and you can provide me with information about who the real Marcus Allaman is and why he is notable, I will be more than happy to restore the page to its pre-deletion state. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 19:15, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

The Punisher

What was really wrong with The Punisher? I added it to the peer review and the feedback I got said it was funny. Rather than add to it, rewrite it, or at least give me a decent reason why it is not funny, it got deleted instead? I mean I had a peer review, why didn't the people who nominated it for deletion or voted for deletion read the peer review and give me feedback before they decided to delete it? I sent the link to other people and they said it was funny. I admit it wasn't the funniest thing on Uncyclopedia and it needed more work, but it could have been fixed with the proper feedback. I feel the system has failed on me, and as more and more of my articles keep getting deleted I get the paranoid feeling that there is some sort of conspiracy against me. I have no idea what to do now. --Lt. Sir Orion Blastar (talk) 01:29, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Before I get to explaining why your article, specifically, was delete-worthy, I'd like to clearly explain how VFD-related things work on a general level.
Fundamentally, the reason that it was deleted was because there was a 9 against 1 vote to delete instead of save it. Many of the people voting for the deletion of the article are individuals that have developed a solid reputation, in my mind, as being competent judges of what is or is not Uncyclopedic material. On top of that, I always perform a brief review of an article before I perform a voted on deletion and there have been cases when I have felt that something was worth keeping and tried to encourage further discussion and voting; sometimes this will eventually lead to an articles salvation but other times it leads to me conceding to the will of others. Beyond that, there are a number of policies that I implement to try to keep the whole procedure as impersonal as possible; these policies are mostl heuristic in nature but range from ignoring apparently spite-based votes, increasing the negative threshhold for deletion on heated topics and various other little things. To that end, I assure you, there was nothing personal about the deletion of your article.
In response to your article passing through some amount of peer review, I'm afraid that really doesn't amount to much. Peer review is not a formalized process on Uncyclopedia and doesn't carry any weight on its own. Peer review exists so that people can get help with their articles, not to validate their existence. Furthermore, the people involved with peer review are, for the most part, not the same as those involved with deletion. In short, peer review and article deletion are completely unrelated except insofar as review may make an article funnier, which may indirectly prevent its deletion.
As to why, specifically, The Punisher was deleted I can not tell you why a given person voted a given way but I can give you my personal impressions as to why the article was not fit to be kept. For the most part, the article lacked any coherant humor (coherant being the key word). In reading over the article, I find it to essentially consist of a representation of the real Punisher character with a lot of random, nonsense humor added. Random, nonsense humor is rarely funny to most people and generally frowned upon within Uncyclopedia (Uncyclopedia:How To Be Funny And Not Just Stupid has a fantastic explanation of the matter). Examples of the randomness of your The Punisher article include the various notes about him being a pirate or a rodeo clown, which elicit more of a "huh?" reaction than a "ha!" reaction. The random nonsense was essentially all that separated your article from a slightly inaccurate, nonhumorous discussion of The Punisher and that really isn't enough.
Oh, and, minor sidenote, prefixes and suffixes in people's signatures (usually) aren't just self-given nominals and they do have meaning --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 15:42, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Well I did write Pirate in The Punisher article, but not Rodeo Clown, so someone else must have been changing it. The Pirate reference went with the skull on his chest and tied into the Pirates article which I thought was allowed random humor as long as it was consitant between articles like that Oprah article which uses a lot of random humor was given as an example. I thought it was coherant, but I guess maybe it wasn't to other people? I added a bit of right-wing humor, and people had a problem with that as well, but the right-wing humor flowed with the right-wing articles that it linked to and was consitant. I removed my self-imposed rank, but since I have been with Uncyclopedia for a year, I was awarded 2 Lt recently, so I now have changed my sig. Thanks for your feedback, and I hope to write better articles in the future. You've helped me out a lot. --Lt. Sir Orion Blastar (talk) 02:24, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

You have been around for quite a while, please accept my appologies for assuming you were a n00b. As regards Oprah, I think that it's crap and would love to see it done away with but it's become so entrenched in Uncyclopedia that suggesting its deletion would be considered heresy. LineBall

Oh mighty Gwax I assume the reason for the deletion of this article was that it was too specific humour-wise and not open to the whole uncyclopedia community. Correct? Do you reckon it would be worth expanding it and add the history of the game for example? Cheers! Jefflemon 11:21, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

The truth is that the page was marked by someone with {{NRV}} to indicate that they felt it had no uncyclopedic value. Articles that are marked as such are automatically deleted after about one week if no action is taken for their preservation. I was simply going through and auto-deleting things and Lineball happened to be one of them. If you would like, I can restore the article and reset the countdown so that you have one week to take appropriate actions to save it from re-deletion. You will want to familiarize yourself with section 4.1 of Uncyclopedia:Pages for deletion to learn the procedure for dealing with {{NRV}} and you may want to check Uncyclopedia:How To Be Funny And Not Just Stupid to make sure that it is appropriate for Uncyclopedia. We maintain a policy against allowing articles that are just lists of things unless there is something particularly humorous about the list itself. The article consisted of:
  • "This is the new version of the game Super Smash Bros. for GameCube. That means that everything looks like a cube in this game when hit from the right angle of camera." which is not funny.
  • A long list of characters (real and fake), which was just a list and, as such, unnacceptable.
  • "When the TV screen says "HA HA! It's not about GameCube! Now press the explode button on your GameCube controller and your TV will explode and money will come out" then do what it says. It tells the truth" which is not funny.
All told, the article consisted of two unfunny lines and a list, which is not acceptable. Feel free to expand Super Smash Bros. by adding a Super Smash Bros. Melee section if you would like to add content on the subject. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 03:42, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Undeletions

Any particular reason you've chosen to undelete articles that have were requested for deletion by the original author, and voted against in VFD?

While I'm generally pretty easygoing about other sysops making alterations to by bans based on satisfactory amends by the user affected, I'm less enthused about reversals of other work I do around here, particularly when there's no explanatory message. ~ T. (talk) 21:42, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

The reason is that Imrealized (the author) felt like he was being ganged up on by "the cabal" and was bitterly giving up on Uncyclopedia. Loke

What is wrong with this article and how do I fix it? You placed a NRV tag on it, and I am one of the people trying to fix it and make it better. I kind of lost interest in it, until you added the tag. What changes do you think would be best made to it to make it funny enough to lose the NRV tag? Thanks. --Lt. Sir Orion Blastar (talk) 21:37, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Firstly, the majority of people spell it Loki, so it ought to be placed at Loki, where you could make a note about the mispelling. To devote Loke to the matter demands that you do a good job making the mispelling humorous in and of itself. As it stands, the article notes the mispelling and moves on without being humorous. Beyond that, the remainder of the article consists of random unfunny nonsense and a sprinkling of facts. I don't mean to be mean but there really isn't anything in the article worth keeping. If you want the article saved, I recommend redirecting Loke to Loki, starting over from a blank slate and writing something funny with as little randomness as possible. Sorry. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 01:45, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Well the original spelling is Loke, I looked that up. Loki is a bad translation of his name, but I guess everyone uses it anyway? For a god of chaos or mischef, you expect quite a bit of randomness. Sigh, I guess I'll try writing a Loki article and see how I can make it funny without going random. Maybe better I can put in a request for a Loki article and then add to it? --Lt. Sir Orion Blastar (talk) 19:14, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
First point, nobody calls it Alumininium in the US and you'd confuse most people here, same goes for Loke and most people in general. Second point, you'd think that Eris, Goddess of Discord, would have a more discordant article but instead it's decent with a little excess stupid. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 12:30, 6 April 2006 (PDT)

The reasons: You mistyped his name, that image isn't a banning offense and is also clearly marked NSFW, and you ruined the rest of the section with a <s>. --Sir Splak Sigpaw.gif KUN UotM NotM MDA HoF VFP Bur. SG CM +S NS © (talk) 04:45, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
My guess (you'd have to check with him to be sure) is that the link you made was to an empty log, showing no activity, and you added an <s> without a matching </s> and kind of futzed things up. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 04:00, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Probably the best way to maintain Uncyclopedia tradition with regards to judging criteria would be to have each judge develop their own rigid, ultra-complicated rating system, which would completely change for each round of the contest, and isn't actually published until after the judging is over. Then we have Famine ban all three winners for 24 days, during which time we launch a smear campaign against each winner by posting subtle-yet-blatant lies around the site to be read by Wikipedia's army of minor-wiki attack bots. And don't forget, we'll also need a set of completely incomprehensible rules, based on those of the Hudsucker Industries Mail Room:

You log in at 8:30 every morning, except you log in at 7:30 following a business holiday, unless it's a Monday, then you log in at 8 o'clock. Log in late, and they dock ya! Incoming articles get a voucher, outgoing articles provide a voucher. Move any article without a voucher, and they dock ya! Main namespace a green template, UnNews a yellow template, QuoteUnquote a maroon template. Wrong color template, and they dock ya! 6787049A/6. That is your contestant number. It will not be repeated! Without your contestant number you cannot collect your amazon.com gift certificate. InterWiki e-mail is code 37, intra-Wiki e-mail 37-3, outside e-mail is 3-37. Code it wrong, and they dock ya! This has been your orientation. Is there anything you do not understand, is there anything you understand only partially? If you have not been fully oriented, you must file a complaint with personnel. File a faulty complaint, and they dock ya!

Admin candidacy?

Quick question, how do you qualify/become an admin? --Sir Tripod2282 Icons-flag-us.png cun vfp talk Active ~ 16:05, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

It's a quasi-appointed/quasi-elected position; it is not an inevitability as we only add more admins when we need them, not when we see good candidates. When we do need new admins, it's usually brought up in the Village Dump, users with good reputations are then nominated by anyone and voted on by admins. If you would like to take a more active role in the Uncyclopedia community, you would do well to pay attention to the Village Dump and consider spending a bit of time in IRC. That said, I would like to say that being an admin gives you a lot more in the form of responsibilities than it gives you in the form of powers or amusement and that for many people, being an active regular contributor is better than being an admin. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 16:34, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

A note for Pultizer Prize Poo Lit Surprise Judges

If you happen to be one of the lucky people that I have asked to be a judge in the Poo Lit Surprise, please follow the instructions on that page for registering your votes. You may find me in IRC or you may use the "E-mail this user" link in the toolbox when you are looking at either my user or talk pages. If neither of these options works for you, leave a note here that you're having problems and we can try to figure something out. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 19:53, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

New Contest

Gwax, I would please like your permission to start a new Uncyclopedia contest. Since it is still in the planning stage, I should not like to give out full details on a public talk page. If you are interested, please post your email address on my talk page so I can send you full information. If you are uncomfortable about posting your address on a public talk page, we can do vice versa. Thanks. --Sir Tripod2282 Icons-flag-us.png cun vfp talk Active ~ 00:11, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

I think that it might be too close on the foot of the Poo Lit Surprise for another competition. Additionally, seeing as you're rather new here, I recommend a little more prudence. Furthermore, I'm really busy with all sorts of things right now and not really in much of a position to consider such things right now. Beyond that, isn't there an "E-mail this user" link in the toolbox on the left, when you look at this page? --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 03:26, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

VFD Questions

I'd like to know why we cant just get rid of those pages I put down on VFD. Sure, they're NRV tagged, but they've been there for ages. I put them there myself. Aside from that, they're just mediocre crap, and I don't really see any problem with deleting them immediately. On the Jesus Christmas one, the author even says he's just wasting "invaluable space"....C'mon................. Love, Das Boot 03:10, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Because VFD does not exist for the sole purpose of getting rid of articles. VFD exists so that there exists a place to vote on and discuss whether articles are worthy of deletion. VFD has had very big problems in the past where people were just using it as a means of deleting articles and it was becoming overwhelmed. Now we are implementing a very strict policy against such entries so that we can use VFD for what it's meant to be used for, voting. If you think they should be deleted immediately, use QVFD. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 03:22, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Vacation

I have decided to go on vacation. Don't worry, I'm going on one of those new age vacations where I take a vacation somewhere that I go all the time, right here. See the snazzy template, I added up at the top of this page, yeah that one. So yeah, I'll still be around and I'll keep using my powers for funny but I'm going to take some time to enjoy Uncyclopedia like I used to and do some actual contributing, instead of constantly fighting off other peoples' bad contributions. Now, first thing's first, time to find a picture of a tropical beverage to add to my vacation template. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 23:12, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

I can heartily recommend this approach. I did it a couple of months ago and it was like falling in love with the site all over again. We'll man the trenches whilst your otherwised engaged. -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb.png (talk to me)

Having just done this a week ago, let me recommend:

1 tall glass, fill 1/3 to 1/2 full with ice
1 shot of dark rum
1 shot of light rum
1 shot orange curaco/triple sec
1 shot ammereto
fill to brim with pineapple juice
rim and garnish with orange slice

Permission

I know you're on vacation and whatnot, and I hope you're felling relaxed and having a good being a regular contributor or whatever, but I just need you're permission on something really quick. I am going to be creating a page entitled "Uncyclopedia:The Admins Quiz".

1. I would like you're permission to create this page without it being instantly deleted by a zealous admin.

2. I would please like you to source protect it so that no one can edit it. I will have the original template on my User account so I can change it each week.

The "contest" will feature an admin each week, the admin being notified the week before, and a question will be asked about the admin. Uncyclopedians will vote on the answer, and will receive an award template if they get it right. The answers will be revealed by the end of the week. I'm not asking you to actually help with the monitoring and voting counts and whatever. All I'm asking you for is your permission and to source protect the page.

Please leave this template on my talk page and mark it with your response:

Logo copyright issues

Brad told me that you're a lawyer. I could use some advice. Wikipedia is having a little bonfire with all the copyrighted images people use on their userpages as decoration in userboxes and whatnot, including the Uncyclopedia logo. I left this message on the talk page of the admin who removed it when it came to my attention:

This is in response to your removal of the Uncyclopedia logo from my userpage and apparently many other pages on Wikipedia. The logo was created by me (Rcmurphy on Uncyc) as a parody of the Wikipedia logo, using only a partial overlay of the globe puzzle piece outlines to trace part of the potato face design. No part of the WP logo was used in my potato.
Uncyclopedia's license is not free, but I'd like to allow the logo to be used for Wikipedia userpages, userboxes, etc. - in other words, as "decoration" for Wikipedians. It's in the spirit of our project. --Rcmurphy 15:58, 17 May 2006 (UTC) [2]

He responded:

Being licensed under the CC-BY-NC license, the only way the image can be used on Wikipedia is under fair use, which only allows it on the article about UE. We can't make exceptions to this policy. If the image were relicensed by yourself under a license acceptable to Wikipedia, then that would change this situation, but giving specific permission is not enough. ed g2s • talk 16:03, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Note also your image could be considered a derivative work, and therefore an inringement of Wikimedia's copyright. ed g2s • talk 16:06, 17 May 2006 (UTC) [3]

So my questions are...

1. Could this really be considered a derivative work, a "second artistic creation that includes major basic copyrighted aspects of an original first work that was previously created." If so then I guess I can't do anything about how they limit use of it on Wikipedia.

2. If it's not a derivative work, how could I allow use of it by Wikipedians on their userpages? I don't know much about copyright licenses and I don't want to release all rights to it.

Thanks! This stuff is such a pain. —rc (t) 16:31, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

I think your information has become mixed up somewhere; I begin law school in the fall and will be a lawyer in about three years. That said, I do know a little bit and I think that I can offer some, decidely unoffical, thoughts on the matter. Ignoring the derivative work issue for a moment, you made the image so you're the copyright holder and you can do whatever you want with it. Saying that you'd like to allow its usage, however, does not license it for use on wikipedia; what you need to do is upload the image, choose one of the available licenses and add a notice to the image's page that you are the original creator of the image and have decided to license it for use on wikipedia. Brief information about the various licenses can be found at Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Image copyright tag; just choose one that looks good to you. As for the derivative work issue, I expect that you could argue that it doesn't violate copyright because it's only minimally derivative in a vaguely conceptual manner and is very likely covered under parody laws anyway.
I'm pretty sure that I'm right about the relicensing matter and that I don't know anything about the derivative work matter but I say choose a license, put it back up, make it clear that you're its creator and don't mention that it might be a derivative work. If someone complains to you that it violates the wikipedia logo, disagree on the grounds that it's only reminiscent of the wikipedia logo and was designed for the purpose of legal parody. If someone presses the matter, it'd probably be best to cave quickly for lack of a good reason to do otherwise. That's my unprofessional opinion. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 18:26, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Oh, and despite not having any officiality behind it, I'm mighty good at sounding like I know what I'm talking about so if anyone on wikipedia gives you any guff, let me know. I'm pretty sure that our friend ed g2s, who claims he studies computer science and used to study math, is neither a lawyer nor a copyright expert and could be bullied about with some big words and faux legalese. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 18:50, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice (I thought you were a student, but I figured Brad must've known something I didn't). The new problem is that it seems Wikipedia has deprecated noncommercial licenses, so I can't find one that would let me re-up under the only guideline I really want. I actually went ahead and emailed Jimbo about it because he's quite familiar with us, so we'll see what kind of response I get. As it is now, I don't see a way to get the optimal result. —rc (t) 00:45, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
