Since the upgrade, I've seen a lot of users' sigs spilling out onto the discussion pages. Here's how you fix it:

1. Create a second subpage that references the first. For example, if your sig is at User:Me/sig, the second page would contain only {{User:Me/sig}}.
2. Put the second page in your signature preferences instead of your real one.

The current version of MediaWiki seems to preface any template inclusion in your signature with SUBST:, but it doesn't check whether that template has any inclusions itself. By putting your signatures two layers deep, you can keep them from being exposed.--Algorithm (talk) 20:55, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Update

An alternate function, only requiring one page on the whole site, rather than one user subpage for each user. Just edit your nickname in preferences to (for example):

{{nosubst|User:You/sig}}

which becomes

{{SUBST:nosubst|User:You/sig}}

For example, mine went from --{{nosubst|User:Splaka/sig}} to --{{SUBST:nosubst|User:Splaka/sig}}. You can use it, and put any unneeded intermediary metasig on QVFD. --Splaka 05:38, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
