So, remember this? It's still on. The date we threw around was the end of March or April 1; I think if we can get organized, I'd like to start sometime this week (maybe even Monday the 27th if we get everything together). Since I want people to actually participate, I've reconsidered and I don't think I want it to seem fake by putting it on April Fools Day. We'll probably have some special reskin that day anyway.

The main hangup right now is that...we don't have a name for the contest. The rules and things are essentially decided, but we need a good title for the competition. Please put suggestions here. MoneySign has expressed interest in creating a logo for the contest, so all we need is a good name for him to use. --—rc (t) 22:19, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

The absolutely up-to-the-minute latest word is that Monday is probably not a go, for obvious reasons. As much as I hate to do it, I'm going to take MoneySign's advice and put the start of the contest off until the 2nd (a week from today). I think I will combine some of the suggestions and go with The Oscar Wilde Memorial Award for Literary Excellence. Thus giving homage to our hero and giving it an (in)appropriately formal title. Any objections, state them now or forever hold your peace. Winners will be named Official Poets Lowrate for the Most Excellent Order of Uncyclopedia, in addition to getting a Tompkins-endorsed "You Write Good" sticker and $30,000. --—rc (t) 19:13, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Image Suggestions

Apperantly MoneySign has reserved the right to make to logo. In hopes of defying him, I was gonna make a logo. Exept it turned out crappy and should probably be used as the award, if nothing better turns up. Structure

I think this is a good idea, but i've got a few suggestions. Perhaps we should have the competition initially be thematic, that is we have a list of categories, and people initally enter their articles in there. Then, the best articles (depending on the amount of entries) would move on to the next round. We do have a few different categories, but I'm reluctant to have more or to stage different rounds because I really don't know how many entries the contest will generate. It's set in wiki language, not in stone Gwax. I think it would make for a stronger overall contest, less apples competing against oranges. Photoshop

I disagree. Images have always been an integral part of Uncyc articles. Moreover, there's no need to manipulate an image to work it into the article - sometimes a plain picture ganked from somewhere on the web will get the humor across just fine. Plus, permitting visuals (and even audio) allows for more creativity, if anyone wants to go that route. And, finally, I just don't want to scare people with too many guidelines. There are currently very few rules for contest submissions because I want people to have free rein over their work. --—rc (t) 01:44, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

Ok, mabye I went a bit too far with no images, but last time I checked, this was a writing contest, not a photoshop contest. I agree that a good manipulated image can enhance an article, however, not everybody has those skills to PS and image. As I said, photoshopped images are not necessary for a visually amusing article. Some of the best image applications I've seen have been plain, unedited pictures with humorous captions or just excellent placement within the article. --—rc (t) 08:22, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
