DJ, I've whored my entire Uncyc life. I whored NotM to everyone I knew. I very rarely seriously whore things, apart from the CMC - and they're just invitations - sure I do it on other people's talkpages, but only when it's a joke. And I tend to avoid any page with a no whoring sign (unless I miss the notice and if I miss it, it should be bigger!). Whoring for the CMC is a trick copied from UNSOC and a trick that no one seemed to mind. Did anyone really mind about Waves? If so, I'm sorry, but quite a lot of people seemed to find him quite amusing. And as for forums: I'm not sure if you're referring to specifically to the fake conversation ones or not - I like them, some other people like them and a few people are indifferent. We're happy to satirise everything beyond Uncyclopedia, but when it comes to satirising our own users, that becomes annoying and a bannable offence? Of course I've changed, DJ. Thanks for the in-depth pee review. I'm not particularly attached to that article, but I think your ideas are excellent and I probably will expand on the article once I get around to it.

Please please can you stop posting links to CMC or Mafia or whatever it is this week on random peoples' talk pages. If they want to join it they will eventually. Also before you start a totally separate Mafia group you should probably try to get the CMC in order, I mean what we really need for the site is simply more writing and less purely symbolic groups - Grue Army promotes the stopping of vandals and flamewars, UNSOC promotes helping new users and "togetherness". Sure we can have groups like this but too many and the site becomes less of a "parody encyclopedia" as it was intended, to being like a random forum like thing which is fun to socialize at but ultimately does nothing. *ahem* "The site is in decline" is a rather drastic way of putting it. We still manage to find an article to feature every day (and in my opinion every article we feature is very good or excellent - apart from in a few cases). Also if you think the site really is in decline it is rather naive to suggest that writing alone is what will fix it. A lot of people will only get hooked on Uncyclopedia if there continues to be a loving, funny, bantering community that keep it alive. That is personally what I believe underpins Uncyclopedia - not it's excellent writing. Sure, Uncyclopedia is a site intended for humour articles, but users enjoying Uncyclopedia and having fun on it should be our prime aim. This does, however, need to be carefully balanced against good article writing.

I've heard it time and time again: people blaming pointless usergroups for this (possible perceived) decline in writing. It simply doesn't work that way, the things aren't really related. It's not like someone will spend all their time just working on a usergroup - and in fact if that did happen, so what? If that users decides to take that path then they probably aren't a great writer). Believe me, I can continue to put effort into usergroups and still write, pee and help users. Also, I don't believe usergroups really undermine Uncyclopedia's "wikipedia parody" objective - it's sort of a behind the scenes thing - you need to dig a bit deeper to find them.

I think the CMC actually has achieved some things, fair enough, they're small things, but they're good, anyhow. I truly believe that the CMC has also helped promote the "togetherness" that you suggested UNSOC helps with and has helped new users make friends. Also, you may remember, that I've started two or three Dump topics about utilising the CMC for a purpose and every time they've either been ignored or BHOP'd and ignored. And each time I got similar rants about how usergroups are "annoying" or "pointless". In one of these topics I suggested that the CMC could help mantain, improve and create Uncyclopedia projects (especially and appropriately the "You have two cows" project which is getting messy or is already messy, due to its size).

I'm sorry, DJ, if my whoring annoys you. I whore a lot of things, and personally think it's slightly odd that Uncyclopedia has such a negative approach to it. Whoring is essential for spreading ideas, getting things out there and reminding people if they've missed things (...and so what if they haven't missed it?). So far I haven't recieved any real complaints about whoring (apart from when I was a noob and did it haphazardly for NotM, because I didn't realise people disliked it until Cajek warned me) - if people don't want to join they politely turn the offer down (such as Modus or UU). And another point, how would merging the two groups increase efficiency? If anything it would undermine the fun and playful ideas behind both groups. /end rant - [14:18 30 July] Sir FSt Don Yettie

I'm not blaming usergroups, I am not sure why there has been a decline in the number of articles written. I probably saw the "decline" more steeply than you did to, I was a lurker for a few months before joining (since about Sept/Oct 2007) and the number of really high quality articles started to slow by January (holidays n' shit) and hasn't really stopped since. Whoring has a very negative effect because you and I may be able to analyze an article by looking at it but other, less experienced people will follow a crowd. Plus it can descend into conflict if it gets too over the top. "Spreading ideas" can be good but it has the problem of stifling different ideas.

May I also point out to you that while the community is important and user groups are a part of that if you look at activity statistics compared to last year we are simply spending much more time on Peeing, on random conversations on talkpages and stuff than before. Ljlego's advice shouldn't be thrust aside, Pee may try to help everyone but you can't hold their hands all the time - some articles won't ever be good, some people won't ever write well (as you indicated above) - sure it seems selfish but people must find their own style, their own way if they try to just "write whatever everyone else is writing" it won't work. I've tried to be more liberal at VFD because of this.

Having a strong community always means there is a possibility of cliquiness starting. Before, there was less of a community from what I gather, it was nonsense in IRC and BHOP and down to business elsewhere, you can complain but look at the articles from 2006 and 2007 (which are still being featured) and try to deny that. Whoring: Okay, so whoring articles/or vote pages to noobs is probably a bad idea...but cults and crime syndicates? Personally I spend a ridiculous amount of time in userspace and I'm proud of it, because, despite this I think (or hope) that I'm helping Uncyclopedia. Personally I'd lose interest in Uncyclopedia very quickly if it was "down to business" all the time. Also have you considered the possibility that older ideas are better because in the olden days there were fewer ideas and there was far more to write about. Now a days it's hard to write an article that is original with our growing wiki-page-count. Maybe the level of writing is just slowing because we're getting closer and closer to saturation point?

What do you suggest I do? Combine the two groups? I don't like this idea because it would ruin two nice ideas I've had - if I absolutely must I'd prefer to just stick to the CMC. Alternatively I could combine the two groups under an umbrella group (Federation for the Betterness of Uncyclopedia - FBU). Hmm, I'm not sure... I don't like it. As it is I'm offering two different groups for people with different interests/senses of humour (or whatever). Personally I think that the whole issue would look better if your "join me" messages wouldn't be so big, especially with the mob one - the black background makes it too difficult to read. I see what you're saying about the saturation point, but what I've seen lately in quite a few places is good ideas not worked on well, this is either because standards at VFH so you don't have to put in so much effort to get features or people are simply spending less time writing. Looking at VFH it's a bit of both. I've had lots of ideas that haven't been done before (most of them are pretty stupid or esoteric though). On the group thing, keep the 2 things under different names if you want, I just think it would be easier to run it as one group. DJ and UU: I don't think that a total saturation point will ever descend upon Uncyc, but I don't thinking it's impossible. Nothing is impossible and impossible is nothing (I have strong opinions, you really shouldn't have let these out..). The reason I believe a total saturation point will never come to Uncyclopedia is because when/if things starting getting anywhere near it, people will stop writing articles. Well maybe not, quite that. I don't believe anyone or anything will have the will power or the urge to take us anywhere near that saturation point.

And as your metaphor goes, UU, there will, one day, be a final wave. There will not always be good articles to write, what if Uncyclopedia reached an article count of infinity. In that situation, there would be no more articles to write.

MrN: On your merger idea! I think I've come up with a compromise - I compromise I like very much, very very much. What if the two groups are not merged exactly but the Mafia becomes a branch of the CMC? So it becomes the Cow Mafia - as you put it. Users in the CMC will be able to apply for the Mafia, if they wish... If that's there thing. if they like killing. I like that idea, actually. It's like Scientology have there own hired goons. That's what I'll do - like the Grue Army has various different sections to it. People in said Mafia would then get to chose whether they announced themselves as belonging to "the Mafia" or "the Cow Mafia" or they could just announce nothing.

And your point about "different interests/senses of humour" is very valid. Even as I wrote that I didn't really believe it. However it does make sense in this situation: a Mafia enthusiast joins Uncyclopedia. (S)he has time to mess around, but not too much time. So they join the Mafia. :) Anywho...we don't need another BHOP, my CMC will take care of that very well... Although that gives me an idea! Maybe I'll run a private CMC forum. Interesting. Bueno.

Well this is how it is...for the moment these good cow things are generally justing spreading the word of the cows an using this to get people to sign up. However, when I get back from holiday I'm gonna do a load of stuff to the CMC. What I hope I can get the CMC to do then, is to help mantain and touch up various Uncyclopedia projects/portals/main pages. So when I make those changes to the CMC, things that'll earn you a promotion will be: looking after a project well, reverting loads of vandalism from that project etc. For now, as I said, it's all about converting (and doing wierd, original cow-based things). - [07:54 11 July] Sir FSt Don Yettie

I see no reason why you feel you have the authority to remove my fairly innocuous and constructive edit from the page mentioned above, and more generally why you feel you have the authority to make judgements upon which games are good enough to enter that page. My understanding of this wiki from when I last checked was it was a parody encyclopedia (amongst other things) that everyone (well, most people) was free to edit. Your reason for removing my contribution was, as far as I could see, my failure to comply with this approvals system you seem to have set up yourself. I see this system as having no validity, as the page in question seems to be outside your userspace, which means anyone can edit it with or without your permission. tl;dr: You do not own that page. Wo! I like doing things calmy...so lets all calm down, yeh? I'm sorry to see that my revert has angered you so much, it wasn't intended to. Yes, I created the game portal and all pages related to it. I'm also, currently the person responsible for looking after this page and all its subpages. When a new game needs to be added to the list, it not only needs to be added to the list on that page, but the recent games. The number of current games needs to be updated, the {{UnGames}} template needs to be updated, and there are a few other little bits that need to be updated...Quite a bit of work.

My revision has nothing to do with the quality of the game, the game looks great. It's just that editing the page directly and adding your game can mean that I lose track of things...I'm just trying to keep everything updated and tidy.

I hope you now understand where I'm coming from, now. I think your reaction was a bit over the top. This is a humour wiki, as you pointed out, so there's no need to be enemies. Hey, there is a job you can do for the CMC. It's accepting and rejecting new member requests on User:YesTimeToEdit/cmc/join. Essentially you just have a look at there contributions etc. and as long as they're not a vandal/page blanker (or incredible idiot) you can except them. A template is just any old page embedded in another page. Why not have a look at the actual template source code? The way you do this is add Template:And then the name of whatever you putt inbetween the {'s.
