but there are two points that annoy me in "Guess what, You are not the arbiter of all that is funny. At least I have enough sense to recognize that I'm not either and not vote down articles that others enjoy without a good reason" first is "that others enjoy". What? So, we should base our votes on whether or not other people liked it? screw that. vote if you like it, vote against if you don't. BAM! "without a good reason". you don't need a reason. many people put "against" without anything else, other than that they didnt like it. which is completely acceptable. necro or w/e did put a reason. sure, it's not elaborate, but it doesn't need to be. there were shitloads of ad hominem attacks in your other comments too, which is bad. I've watched Necro vote for awhile. He's actually been good to me mostly. That vote wasn't an honest one. He's against it because of length and (just like you claimed) anti-American bent. The article isn't Anti-American. It makes fun of conservatives but it's hardly Un-American. That brings up another bias issue which revolves around not being able to take a joke about something you adore or idolize. Childish? Yep, just like football, there are no cancellations or rain dates in Disc Golf. I've played in what can only be described as survival situations. In winter there's "Team Challenge" and "Ice Bowls", the latter being charity events with the proceeds going to the local food bank. This morning is an Ice Bowl and we will be encountering terrain that's normally the grass covered hilly slopes of Holyoke Community College but will be sheets of ice this morning.

I peeked at what you did briefly and I think if we work on this one paragraph by paragraph it'll keep getting better. I'll try to think of tobacco/smoking/advertisement stuff to throw-in similar to "alive with pleasure" which I thought was good. It's just tougher to make jokes like that one because it's been so long since cigarette ads were everywhere, like when I was a kid. As for the cigs, what I can do is change the mural png completely and have fewer smokes. I originally had the mural up and dropped it for the single cig files until I knew how many would be needed. First, thank you for taking the time to show where the prose could be improved with the HJGs article. Even though the conclusion chapter is short, do tell me if there are suggestions there as well! Of the suggestions you've fielded already, I've added quite a few of them. Others I've either made changes influenced by your original ideas, or otherwise, I just thought it sounded a bit too 'yank'. ;) I will definitely credit you with the help on the prose should this article end up being nominated.

I wish I did. I have a pretty crappy blue collar resume and I'm a middle-aged, unemployed machine operator with no degree. I've always had a creative outlet in one form or another but I haven't managed to ever get paid for it. This wouldn't be my first stint in "free" entertainment production but it would be the first that involved writing exclusively. I'm just an idiot savant with no formal education beyond what I see, hear and read. In essence, I'm involved in "continued studies" here at Uncyclopedia and testing my depth as a writer. I've considered writing a book on many occasions and this is preparation if I ever choose to do so plus keeping me from going nuts while simultaneously making me go nuts.--    23:38, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Really? I find that quite surprising... I'm still at school, at sixth form level (which is the equivalent of eleventh/twelth grade in U.S. high school, for 16-18 year olds) trying to get an A Level in English in order to gain entrance to uni in a year's time. I found the tweaks you suggested with the prose on the aforementioned article very intriguing, and taught me a thing or two about improving sentences, sweetening the flow, expanding the vocab and engineering the structure and order of words. I may have not used the whole virtual rewrite that you so cunningly fielded, but I keenly hold the edits in high regard as the necessary ingredient to the article's current VFH run. I am fully aware that I'm probably one of the youngest members on the site, and that some users here don't have full time occupations, but hearing this from you especially, I am surprised indeed. I just took a cursory glance at the other one and while I kinda like it, it's a tough format to hit a home run with. I might give it a shot if I finish all this other crap I'm doing before time's up for CW. Fraid' I'm going to have to curtail my "geeking" activities at the moment and head to the laundromat. Today is the day when a certain elderly couple show up around noontime (EST) and it's best to do your clothes and clear the building before they show up. The former article was indeed motivational though. Lately, I've been reviewing my original Ultraman box set. Priceless. You even get to see all the real obscure stuff online like Spectreman. They did that show REAL sloppy with the gorilla masks/wigs and endless arm gestures for the villains. I've only seen the Toho films. I've seen every Godzilla film (including the shitty American one) at least three times, as well as classics like Mothra, Rodan, The Mysterians, etc. I even saw those godawful Heisei-series Mothra films. But yeah, I love Godzilla. Perhaps, when your hiatus ends, you and I could collaborate and make the Godzilla article suck a little less ass. Update

I'm actually going through the research and motions to finally write "The Book". It took me awhile to figure out what I'm going to do with all the stuff in my head and I think I'm on the right track. It's going to follow a main character through childhood and beyond, down to the depths of the lowest lows and back up again. It'll probably have a linear story in the present that flashes back to long sections about the past. Facebook has been very handy, I've been posting all my old pictures and artifacts, telling the old war stories and having my old friends chime in. It's been great for getting some old memories back. Apparently, I'm the guy who remembers everything so anything on top of that is a bonus. I'm socializing and researching. Sounds fun but the task of actually writing a rough draft is going to be interesting and a lot of hard work. Cheers in Uncycloland, I'm still an E-mail away.--    17:20, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Oh yes, the long winter approaches. I've been Facebooking with old friends I haven't seen in years - I've been quite the rolling stone during my life and lost touch with a lot of people. I'm actually still researching a book that I'm going to write. I've compiled quite a stack of PDF's to wade through, all history stuff about early California and the area I grew up in. Almaden is quite historic while lesser known because of the gold rush. The quicksilver was in Almaden.

One of the lessons I've learned here is doing a lot of thinking and resource gathering before writing word one. I thought I'd be done with research but I keep learning new things which opens up other avenues of research. One search query uncovers the need for several more and there you go. I'm mired in reading! Some of it is funny though. People from 1899 writing, in lengthy detail, about how backwards those stupid Indians (Native American Ohlones) are. Literally saying "if the weather wasn't so good here, they'd be extinct". Laugh a minute I tell you. Hope you're doing well yourself. I kind of stumbled onto this Godzilla VFH thing and figured I'd better do a template, hence the sudden activity. I'll definitely write more soon while taking brain breaks from "the book" and enduring the cruel New England winter.--    20:14, September 11, 2009 (UTC)
