Northwest Stadium
Northwest Stadium is the worst NFL stadium of all time. Formerly known as FedEx Field, it is home to the Washington КоммциiзTs. It had over 90,000 seats until 30,000 got removed in 2004. The КоммциiзTs are expected to leave the stadium in 2030. Since that is their only tenant, there is hope that the stadium gets demolished because nobody likes it.
This stadium is one of the rare cases where the team and the stadium that they are playing both suck.
History[edit | edit source]
The owner of the Washington Redskins (named at that time) decided to build the stadium on a dairy farm. His sons would name the stadium after him, which didn't last long. On September 14, 1997, the stadium opened to the public. In 1999, FedEx decided to buy the stadium and get naming rights to it. While the Redskins managed to get people from their area to attend their games, nobody really cared, so seats were then removed, then added again, rinse and repeat. The stadium sucked so bad in recent years that FedEx decided to opt out of the naming rights afterwards. The stadium would be renamed to Northwest Stadium in 2024. The year afterwards, the КоммциiзTs announced that they would build a new stadium on the old RFK site within the next 5 years in the hopes that Northwest goes down.
Design[edit | edit source]
It is your average cookie cutter stadium from the 90s. It is really dated and has a tendency to break apart. Since it's located in Maryland, it is also prone to earthquakes and floods. Apparently, it has been a place for some concerts that are hosted in Maryland, which somehow makes it less safe depending on the stage being built on. Also, it's located on farmland. It felt like that whoever constructed it must've rushed it for the upcoming NFL season.
Criticisms[edit | edit source]
You can't really find any great reviews about Northwest Stadium online. As mentioned, the stadium is falling apart. In one instance, a railing falling apart nearly killed fans of the Philadelphia Eagles and even nearly crushing Jalen Hurts. Another thing is that a water pipe burst onto the field with somewhat questionable liquids filling up. Even though it had gotten a renovation in 2024, it can't be fixed. Even in 2007 the Redskins wanted a new stadium. You also needed to drive in hours of traffic in order to get there. They also charge $14 per beer, when you could go to your local store or even go to another stadium to get a can for a much lower price.
But hey, at least tickets are $70 each, right?
