2 things...what happened to that guy and where did his huge post go?
Re: PR4eva[edit | edit source]
by PF4Eva (Wed Mar 25 2009 15:58:16)
To answer your first question, I'm still rockin', and still realizing my vision for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. [smile]
To answer your second question, that's what I'd like to know. [confused] My entire IMDB posting history (prior to yesterday) was somehow wiped out, deleted by an administrator. My signature disappeared. [bigeek] I thought something was suspicious what I went to the second page of this board to search for my MMPR remake thread and post an update, only to not be able to find it at all. If you want more info:
http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000041/flat/133817222
I'm hoping it's just a bug or a glitch, just like the now-infamous Amazon incident in which veteran users like myself were asked to authenticate our accounts via Amazon. I would admit if I had (deliberately or not) violated T&C, but I can't see where I might have done anything wrong, aside from venting over Daeg's replacement in H2 and having a petition for it in my signature. I thought I had for the most part kept my cool when venting about it, so I don't think it would cause my history to be wiped out like that. Who knows? [sigh] Ever since I joined in 2002 (I think it was), I have tried to be the best user I can possibly be, and I thought I was doing a decent job at it. Not to rant or anything, but I think I may have been reported in bad faith. Can I report this?
Anyway, back to the topic on hand: I would like to take the time to remember a thread that lasted far longer and had more impact than a lot of threads and posts on this MMPR board.
When I first saw on the TMNT (2007) board a post joking about "What's next... a Power Rangers movie in 2013?" I thought to myself, "Hey, that's not a bad idea." And I kind of toyed with the idea for a while, how could it be made serious? I was toying with a Lord of the Rings tone and epic feel. At the time, I hadn't really thought about the cast, so I kinda pictured the originals (or at least Tommy/JDF) doing epic stuff and movie trailer announcer guy Don LaFontaine (who has since passed away [sad]) maybe playing/voicing Zordon? But I laughed that casting choice off.
Right around May 2007, I started thinking about it seriously, and on May 20, I started planning things out. And I posted one of the most famous threads in the history of this board. My early casting choices in the original post included Anthony Hopkins as Zordon (which hasn't changed), and Bulk and Skull recasts such as Josh Server,Kenan Thompson, and Kel Mitchell. My, have I come a long way since then. [smile]
The last posts I ever made was simply a "Happy St. Patrick's Day" with two cool images of the Green Ranger/Tommy. I believe the last thing anyone ever posted in that thread was when TrickyDick007 asked me where I got the pics, or when somebody told me that even if this gets greenlit that some of my ideas (casting, costumes, character designs, etc.) might not pass, and that they might totally rewrite my script. I can't remember which post it was...
It is so sad to see the thread die before reaching its second birthday. [sad] Even sadder is that the thread died not too long after the recent cancellation of Power Rangers... even though the end of the show might make a dark, serious movie an easier sell. May the thread, and the show that brought it about, rest in peace. But alas, I will make a new thread of MMPR updates and hope that has a long, healthy life as well.
Power Rangers 1993-2009 RIP

Okay. Whew! I was worried for a bit there.
lol.
Yeah. I remember those last couple of posts. in fact, yesterday when I realized your stuff had been deleted, i was going to ask where you got that Green Ranger pic and copy it to my comp for my next desktop background. :)
Who would have thought that trap door would lead me out here?

OK seriously this is getting annoying. Why do his threads and/or posts keep getting deleted. What is he doing wrong. He is just talking about his ideas. Is that so wrong?

Admins are clamping down on some posts, that deem in violation with the posting etiquette.
A few have been deleted on other boards as well.

Well that maybe true. But it's nice to see them keeping out the trash posts.
Someone has either complained about him, or the admins have been watching the board for a while, and decided that it was time to nuke the post.
(For all we know it could have been one of the actors who he was sprouting for the movie, and who wasn't to thrilled about the idea.....or it could have been Disney who got to the admins)
We're not one, so we're not going to know.
If he is still insisting on doing this "vision" there are plenty of other boards.
Although, one I would not recommend is "Ranger Cast (or StarPoints as it is known also)"...unless you want to have some very pissed off former actors of the show.
But there are some other message boards on the internet, I'm sure you can find, that will allow this post.
I just think the admins have decided to clamp down on certain posts they deem innapproriate.

I have yet to see the admins take any action on any board on here that makes sense. I can't count on my hands and feet how many idiots that post on IMDB that need to be banned and are still running around free to troll
Re:PR4eva[edit | edit source]
by KikiJuanita (Mon Apr 6 2009 14:56:14)
Have you asked them to delete the threads from PowerRangersAreLame?
Because if no one reports, then they don't get deleted. And if they are reported enough times, they will get suspended from the boards and that account will no longer work.
The admins will delete on the advice of some posters, and obviously again PF4Eva's post must have violated something for them to do not once, not twice, but three times, was it??
So unless you step up and report the "trolls" then they aren't going to be deleted.
I've gottten trolls taken off the Charmed board....and it's taken a couple of us to report them.
But once they get rid of them (the admins) they tend to get the message.
So maybe you should try it with the trolls on here?!?! Just a thought!

I used to report him at first, but it did nothing, so now i just have him on ignore.
Also something Kiki said got me thinking.
"Because if no one reports, then they don't get deleted."
First of all that contradicts what you said earlier about the situation when you posted
"Someone has either complained about him, or the admins have been watching the board for a while, and decided that it was time to nuke the post." This implies that the admins could have deleted without a complaint.
Also, what Kiki implied is that someone is reporting all of PF4eva's posts about this topic. I for one would just like to know who that is, and what their reasoning behind the report was.
The word "genius" isn't applicable in football. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein.
Re:PR4eva[edit | edit source]
by PF4Eva (Mon Apr 6 2009 16:02:43)
I've been a bit suspicious of the posting fiasco, and it would be nice to get some helpful answers. I was wondering if a certain someone (not going to name names) was reporting me in bad faith, but now I'm wondering if another certain someone (again, not saying names **cough**PRisLame**cough**) may be the culprit. I'm not even sure any of my proposed actors are yet aware of my project, let alone the Mouse House. But I think Walt should be proud of what I'm doing with something I loved as a kid. He probably would have made a similar movie eventually had he lived longer.
Since IMDb apparently doesn't want any discussion of my project, I am moving it all to Uncyclopedia... because I'm not sure who else would/ could/ might allow me to post/write about such plans. TV.com would probably see it as fanfic, which they don't allow. RangerBoard says to keep your fanfics appropriate for younger folks (which kinda defeats the whole purpose of my vision). If anybody can recommend a site (PR related or not) that would allow this kind of talk, please let me know. Thank you.
Go to Uncyclopedia, and search for "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (future film)" is you want the funnier, quasi-fictionalized version... or "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (future film)/Factual version" if you want the truth, the whole truth, and a few jokes sprinkled in here and there for good measure. (Hey, it's Uncyclopedia, why make it completely true? [wink])

by KikiJuanita (Mon Apr 6 2009 17:56:13)
I did say two things that differ there now that you point out.
It's just a few years ago on the Charmed board, I sort of remember one of the posters on there being deleted for what we saw no apparent reason.
And we can't think of anyone who would have reported them.
So it could be a combination of the two.....someone has reported the poster, for one little thing, and the admins are watching the board for posts that deem not approriate.
I know some posts that I have written have been deleted by the admins, because I have tried to help a fellow poster and give them the link to a website with the hackcodes for DVD players on.
Again, this must be a violation of something in their minds....what I don't know, since I don't see the harm in someone being able to watch DVD's from another region.
But as for you question, can't really think of any where you could post this PF4Eva.....you maybe able to try www.fanfiction.net.....it might get a few more people reading on there.
But be warned.....some of the people who review on here are not nice at all, they will pick everything apart!! (They have done to me)
Although the good thing, is after one 'bad' review, you can stop them from posting anything in regards to what you have wrote. A good thing in my opinion.
Anyway, even though I don't support your "vision" for this....good luck with it all!

Has anybody been reading my updates and stuff at Uncyclopedia?

You can give me your feedback to info I've posted there by replying here or there. Should Kimberly & Trini wear musclular suits or latex catsuits or some other material?
Thank you all for your input.
KikiJuanita, thank you for your suggestions. I haven't used FF.net in a few years now because I'm afraid of having a story deleted for violating their strict rules. Have they loosened up on the script format ban yet? Also, I don't want to spoil my idea should it get greenlit. And thank you for warning me about Ranger Cast/Star Points, I'll have to try and remember that. I don't want to possibly piss off an actor whom I want to cameo or something.
And thank you very much for your good luck wishes. I appreciate it.

Not sure if they have, but I do know that they have done a lot of changes over on the site. So it might be wise to check it out.
I sort of remember seeing some of the stuff I have clicked on to in a 'script' format. (of course the people writing have no idea how to do script format)

Now if you go to the top link I posted in my previous post, you will see my latest conceptions of what the costumes will look like. I have settled on polyurethane a la the Dark Knight Batman costume. Spandex simply doesn't work for my vision, the actors were uncomfortable wearing the PVC costumes in the 1995 movie, and foam latex can be very hot.
These mockups were created in GIMP and use the Dark Knight costume as the model, which I simply modify into Power Ranger costumes and add the important accessories (morphers, helmets).
There is also some vandalism happening on my Factual Version, and I'm starting to suspect it might be PRisLame. It's an anonymous IP, so we'll never really know who it is. This person is constanly criticizing me in ways such as:
"Which is just stupid because it's Power Rangers. A Gritty R Rated Power Rangers movie makes no sense and will be taken seriosuly by no one."
"Little does he know that Studio execs will laugh him out the building when he presents his sceenplay and ideas and demanding full control. It's clearly obvious that PF4Eva lives in a illusioanary world. Please laugh at him at your own disgression."
"Even though that makes no goddamned sense."
"Which makes no fucking sense."
"Because when" which s/he never completes
"After seeing [Scout-Taylor Compton] fail to fill the legendary shoes of Jamie Lee Curtis, he wanted an actress who could do that kind of justice to Johnson's character. You know completely fail."
"Seriously he take into consideration on casting characters that will appear in what a few minutes top in the 'film'"
(S/he unknowingly was referring to the characters who become Goldar and Finster! Shows you how much s/he knows! [laugh])
"Ken Foree had a cameo in Halloween as Big Joe Grizzly in one of the unfunniest and stupidest scenes in the movie, which is pretty hard to say since the whole Movie is retarded."
"Somebody needs to tell PF4Eva that being inspired by a shit movie is not a good idea."
(I'm inspired personnel-wise)
"(you don't put casting choices inyour script by the way another example of why PF4eva is going to be laughed out of existence)"
(I never implied that I was putting casting choices in my script. [confused] My cast wish list is separate from my script.)
"Thus, proving that has no clue what he's doing."
"but then Rob Zombie's Halloween sent chills down my spine so I'm not exactley hard to amaze"
Then s/he goes into great detail about how I will employ ass shots and put nipples on the costumes, a la Joel Schumacher, which is the last thing I'd do. S/he also says that the Green Ranger will have the most of said shots and be given the biggest said addition to the suit. Does he even realize that Tommy wears a shield vest? [laugh] Does he realize I hated Batman & Robin? [laugh] Does he realize I prefer Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan? This person seriously needs a life; there's a big difference between criticism and vandalism.

I think the IMDb administrators have turned into trolls themselves because they are deleting people that I know left and right and most of them didn't do anything wrong or violate the agreed terms. If I had the owner's signature on the contract I agreed to and they deleted any of my posts that didn't break any rules, I'd be suing this site right now.

Two-year anniversary[edit | edit source]
by PF4Eva (Wed May 20 2009 16:04:17)
Today, May 20, 2009, marks the TWO-YEAR ANNIVERSARY of this ambitious project. [party] Damn, where has the time gone? lol. It seems like only yesterday that Hopkins popped in my head to play Zordon, or I took Daeg's long hair into consideration for Tommy and his acting chops won me over as well.
It doesn't seem like two years ago that I toyed around with some ideas such as Kenan & Kel for Bulk & Skull or Christopher Lee (or a Lee robot! lol [laugh]) for Zedd, or I tossed around names for the villain to be played by Malcolm McDowell. Everything just seems like only yesterday in some ways. Then you wake up and it's two years later, and you're thinking to yourself, "This is a lot of good, hard work for two years. I've put my heart, soul, blood sweat, and tears into this baby and it is brilliant so far."
It's too bad my original, original thread didn't live to its second birthday today. [sad] But at least I've carried over the dicussion to this thread.
And now, moving on from the past to the future, I've already been brainstorming ideas for this film as well as the sequels I have in mind. Would you guys be okay with the Ranger helmets having flip-up visors and flip-to-the-side mouthpieces? I think it would be good for them to have eye and mouth expression while masked. i.e. Tommy can stare at Goldar with an intimidating look in his eyes, a la Michael Keaton as Batman. Or the Rangers could flip their mouthpieces during whatever interviews can be snagged of them.
I have been thinking about my approach to Alpha, and as much as we all like the "Aye yi yi yi yi!" Alpha with Dagget's voice (Richard Horvitz), this take on Alpha is becoming less and less essential to my vision. What if Alpha's voice sounded more like Jonathan Frakes, Hugh Laurie, or Michael Dorn? I know it would take some getting used to [laugh], but it's an idea I've had for a while. Does anybody oppose Alpha's, ahem, puberty of sorts? [laugh]
My idea for Part 2 is the Godfather Part II approach of a prequel-sequel. The prequel element would be the origin of Zordon and the Eltarian Rangers (whether or not my Part 1 prologue makes the final cut), as well as Ivan Ooze's rise to power (setting up Part 3). The sequel element would be a "Green with Evil" of sorts, taking place October - December (sometime after the events of Part 1). Since the teenagers will need warmer clothes, and since the time period is ambiguous, I've drawn a sketch of Tommy, Jason, et al. wearing flannel shirts and jeans.
For Part 3, I've been thinking about some ideas. After 1) the Rangers are outlawed and forced into disbandment, 2) Ivan Ooze starts to wreak havoc, 3) retired Zordon undergoes rapid aging and weakness, and 4) the Angel Grove High Seniors take their annual trip to DC before graduation, Tommy (who is a junior) is at odds with everybody when he assumes the White Ranger identity and tries to reform the team with newcomers Rocky, Adam, Aisha, and Kat. I still have no idea what to do for the Blue Ranger since Billy is a Senior and therefore, in DC, but I'll probably think of something.
Don't worry, I'm not trying to give too much away. [wink]

by PF4Eva (Mon May 25 2009 16:14:22)
It's been a little quiet lately, but I've been brainstorming Halloween costumes for a costume part at Ernie's Juice Bar in Part 2. Costume ideas have come and gone, and here's what I've settled on:
Tommy...The Joker
Zack... Winston Zeddemore
Kimberly... Robocop
Billy... Dark Helmet
Trini... Hannibal Lecter
Jason... Vincent Vega (Pulp Fiction)
Ernie... Stay Puft Marshmallow Man
Bulk... Wayne
Skull... Garth
Dan Phillips... Gene Simmons
Benson Taylor... Jules Winnfield (Pulp Fiction)
[laugh] I'm trying to keep pop-culture and current-events references grounded in the early to mid '90s, so as not to date the movies to 2007-09 or whatever year; because what do you do when the present-day the film takes place in becomes the past and the film becomes dated? I want an ambiguous time frame that could either be the 90s or the 2000s, but non-specific.
I've gotten rid of the vandalism that the anonymous IP added to my Uncyclopedia article.
Wow, can you believe how far I've come with this project?

It's been a while since I last kept you updated.
I just had my "Factual Version" Uncyclopedia page moved to my userspace because it was recently voted for deletion. I've also been warding off a vandal to the page.
I've done some work designing the backs of the Ranger costumes in GIMP. I am using generic latex (rubber) muscle suits as the model for these backs, even though the fronts use the Dark Knight Batsuit (made of polyurethane) as the model. I did everything possible to make it look like the backs are more than one piece, and that the arms and legs have joints. The inspiration for the joints came from Buzz Lightyear, who has these ball joints on his arms and legs.
Most of the suit inspiration comes from the Batsuits from the Burton and Nolan movies; Joel Schumacher is out of the question. I don't want the Power Rangers to wear nippled suits! [laugh][weird] The costume might be made entirely of polyurethane, or I might make the gloves latex or PU. I'm thinking that Graham Churchyard (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0161495/) should make the new Ranger costumes.
Not much else is happening with the project as of late. I'm still tweaking the screenplay and everything, and it's all coming out great so far.

Wow... It's been a long time since I kept y'all updated.
Not a whole lot is happening right now with the project; I'm brainstorming things here and there. I might tweak my redesign of the Putties, maybe mix the original faces with my redesigned faces, and maybe polyurethane suits. I don't know if I'd CGI the Putties or whatever.
I've also been experimenting with Windows Movie Maker again... just out of shear boredom and randomness, and I've made some zoom in and zoom out effects on my mock-up of Daeg (unmasked) as Tommy.
I've thought of little things here and there for 2 and 3. I've also considered (based on Rob Zombie's "Halloween II") incorporating 16mm film. He's using it for the whole movie, and I'm thinking it might work well for certain MMPR scenes -- villain scenes, city hall meeting, other dark scenes like that.
I got a PM not too long ago from one of the guys (daniel-870) who had read and critiqued the screenplay (He loved it; didn't have a bad thing to say about it!)
Here's what he said:
“ | MMPR REBOOTED - COUPLE OF IDEAS TO GET GOING
by daniel-870 on Sun May 31 2009 10:03:52 Hi You sent me the scritp (sic) ages ago, and as one of the original MMPR fans, I would love yto (sic) see this put into practice. I know thayt (sic) you want certain cast/crew members yto (sic) work on your movies, but what if they don't want to do it? Maybe they should see something first - give that proposal package an extra boost? Why don;t (sic) you produce a short video feature showing off your designs.. dieas (sic) - i.e . a short trailer and maybe full scenes. Obviously it wont (sic) quite be Hollywood quality, but I don't know if you know fanfilms like Batman: Dead End and The Hunt For Gollum, but people can produce firecly (sic) good quality stuff on no budget whatsoever. Also have you thought about spinoffs, other than the soundtrack? Maybe a presuel (sic) comic, or even a series - grownup aimed animated show/DTV? It would be cool to see it be the start of a new Ranger franchise, aimed more toewards (sic) adults, maybe giving them something less to be embarrassed about than a cheesy show. Have you joined RangerBoard.RangerTalk to start talking about the movie yet? I wish you well on the project, Regards Danny |
” |
He followed it up with a PM apologizing for the spelling mistakes.
I know I'd be in a bind if any crucial actor declined. Daeg should be one of the easiest actors to get for this, I'm hoping; he loves superhero movies and action movies; he says he wants to be a superhero in a movie, something like X-Men, and this is in a close enough vein; Daeg likes playing characters who swear, so he'll love playing a Tommy who is foul-mouthed when he needs to be.
Someone like Anthony Hopkins might be more of a challenge. I mean, he did do Beowulf, but he turned down Alfred in Batman Begins. And even if Tony declines, there's always Ben Kingsley, Patrick Stewart, at al.
I like the idea of producing a pitch reel/short trailer to convince some folks to be a part of this. I like the trailer I did way back when with "In the Air Tonight" and a score by X-Dog. I used a lot of video and soundbytes from YouTube, and I don't know if fair use would work in my favor. I don't want to be sued by anybody.
With a new pitch reel or trailer, I could use only original stuff such as my designs, original score music to give one an idea of what mood/style/tone I'm looking for, and everything else I need. I do have a bit of a shortcoming -- I don't have anything to use for recording. No camcorder, no mics. I'm not really sure how I'd get this pitch reel off the ground.
I like short films that are impressive despite their low or "no" budgets. I know there's a Batman fan film out there somewhere, probably made around the same time as Begins.
As far as spinoffs go, I've thought of little things here and there -- maybe a graphic novel or some sort, or perhaps a Bruce Timm-like animated series, or an hourlong primetime series.
As for RangerBoard, Ranger Talk, etc., I haven't joined those. I'm staying cautious because I was told by KikiJuanita to avoid RangerCast (StarBoard) unless I want to deal with pissed-off former actors from the show. So I'm taking her advice.

It's going pretty good. I've been working on my Windows Movie Maker pitch reel — "storyboarding" a few scenes; establishing the look, feel, and tone of the film; giving one an idea for the musical score. I haven't tweaked the script in a while, but I need to get back on that soon.
I'm toying around with the idea of shooting a few big action scenes in IMAX 1.44:1 aspect ratio (such as the epic prologue) while filming the rest of it in Panavision 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Christopher Nolan did the same thing with The Dark Knight, and the idea sounds intriguing to me.
I am thinking about how to incorporate the theme song into the film (besides being interpolated in the film score), and I have become so obsessed lately with a new discovery for me — Tay Zonday's 2007 YouTube smash hit, "Chocolate Rain" — that I think it would be interesting if he did a mashup of "Power Rangers Chocolate Rain" and other original songs, much like Prince did the Batman soundtrack. I still don't want to date the movie too much, but I think Tay has a cool singing voice.
When do I plan to professionally pitch? Good question. I have no clue; I'm just doing what I'm doing, polishing everything. Hopefully I can pitch this baby before Daeg (at least) gets too old... or the older actors get too old, retire, or die. I'm thinking maybe no later than 2012 would be interesting. That way, if the world does in fact end (which I'm still not sure about), then I'll have at least one MMPR movie released. I'm hoping for at least a trilogy. A part 4 would be Zeo, I'd skip Turbo, I don't really know how far I'd go if I decide to go beyond the MMPR Trilogy.
It's still up in smoke — much like Cheech and Chong [laugh] — whether the TV series is finished or not. What I've seen so far of RPM (five eps or so) was pretty good, very dark, and it is a good way to end the TV series if that's their decision. Maybe with this darker series, a dark movie reboot would be an easier sell.
As for a second review, I wouldn't mind. I'm still changing things around, though, and it's the Unrated Director's Cut version, so it has more F words than you'll likely hear in theaters (I just had to preserve my unadulturated vision [biggrin]). Some little things may change here and there as you re-review the screenplay, and I'm always fleshing out the dialog, just in case you come across rough or misspelled lines. Any help like that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. [smile]
Also, I am thinking of archiving this page for safe keeping (learning my lesson from the original thread, RIP).
That's all the updates I have for now.

It looks as though Laramie "Doc" Show may be the next Zack, due to the fact that I couldn't find any decent pics of Malcolm David Kelley or Tyler James Williams to use for GIMP mockups. I don't know of a lot of African American actors, but any casting decision is subject to change, especially since I haven't pitched this film yet.
Laramie is the actor who plays Malike Payne on Tyler Perry's House of Payne. If anybody can think of a black actor (born in 1991-1994) who would make a great Zack, post away here. Zack isn't the biggest part of this film (but may have a bigger part in No. 2), but I still want a good actor and not a ho-hum generic actor.
Not much has been happening lately. I have edited a mockup of the Rangers unmasked, which I wasn't satisfied with. The heads seemed too big, the image looked too choppy, so I corrected it. That's about it.

1. PR4eva, I have a suggestion but he's a little older than you'd like. Elijah Kelley. He was born in 1986, so is a bit older than most of your choices, but I think he would be a great choice.
2. Mr-Awesome, with all do respect, Shut up. Listen, I'm sure that PR4eva knows the likelihood of this isn't that great, but why do you have to crush his dreams of this happening. Sure it isn't likely, but this is his idea, and I for one would love to see something like this work out. Whether it be PR4eva's screenplay or not, a Power Rangers reboot is something that could make a killing at the box office. Maybe Disney needs some spark or some idea to work with, and he could give them that idea. Not saying he will, but does it give you great pleasure to tell some that what they want isn't going to happen. We let little kids dream big, so why should we stop letting people dream big once they get older. So please if you only want to nay-say this idea, then why post anything at all.

I've been looking at Wikipedia's list of current child actors, and I've gone through hell looking for Zack-like actors, but there's this guy from Heroes mamed Noah Gray-Cabey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noah_Gray-Cabey and http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1370821/) and he has the right look for the part, I think. He was born in 1995, so he's a tad younger than the 1991-1994 range I was using to seek actors. It's also interesting to note that his Heroes character Micah Sanders can control machines, so Zords should be a breeze. [wink]
Also Lorenzo James Henrie (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1319062/) from the recent Star Trek. (Whoops, he's white! It was the lighting on some of his pics [dead])
I'll keep my eyes peeled for a good Zack. I guess I'll have to have all my Zack choices audition and go from there.
Also, I've been thinking that Billy should work retro-futuristic 1980s nerd glasses, a la Trvor Horn from the Buggles, except he wouldn't wear them while fighting. I don't know if I'll go with the idea, but I thought it would be interesting. I haven't really known whether I should use MMPR Billy or Zeo Billy as the basis for this billy. I mean, when you work on a project for this long, you're gonna want to change little things here and there.
That's all the updates I have for now.

After painstakingly seeking nearly every black teen actor I could find on Wikipedia and IMDb, I have decided to go back to my original choice, Malcolm David Kelley, best known for playing Walt on Lost and guest starring as Albie (Alby) on an episode of My Name Is Earl. He has the look down pat, he has the same skin tone as Walter Jones, and I managed to take a decent screenshot from one of his YouTube videos. I was so afraid that his head would seem too low-res, but it works just fine. I have (again) adjusted the mockup "storyboard" image accordingly (and made Daeg's head normal size; it was a tad too big as I had pasted it on Tommy's body).
I was in quite a dilemma, but now it seems everything will be running smoothly soon. [smile] May the power protect you.

Just archived the rest of page 4 to IMDb for safe keeping and archival purposes. Not much is happening at the moment, but I've printed a couple pages out of the screenplay after some tweaks. I left off on page 46, so the next page I tweak should be 47.
In news unrealted to this movie but related to actors from this film, Halloween II had its big premiere yesterday. I'm excited but I'm still torn because of the Daeg/Young Michael Myers recast in which Chase Wright Vanek assumes the role because Rob Zombie thinks Daeg is "too big" for the role now. The new kid may or may not be a good actor in his own right, but he looks too much like Zac Hanson to pass for a young psychopath. Then again, it can be argued that Big Michael Myers Tyler Mane now looks too much like Zakk Wylde (and he does! [laugh][smile]) I hope whoever does the next Halloween brings back Daeg and the Halloween Theme... FOR GOOD. Chase Wright Vanek might as well be the George Lazenby of the YMM role.

Still haven't seen Halloween II (2009) yet, but I might see it eventually, good or bad. No offense to Chase Wright Vanek, but the kid has got some mighty big shoes to fill replacing Daeg as Young Michael Myers. Rob Zombie should be ashamed of himself for doing this to Daeg.
As far as my Power Rangers project, I haven't been working on it as much, because another project has presented itself to me... a Halloween film that:
- a) ignores the Daeg-less Halloween II
- b) serves as a direct sequel to Rob's Hallowen 2007 remake
- c) brings Daeg back as Young, Teen, and Adult Michael Myers
- d) replaces Malcolm McDowell with Christopher Lee
- e) replaces Sherri Moon with Ali Larter
- f) retcons Michael's childhood in an effort to make Michael Myers completely motiveless and more of the Shape/Boogeyman John Carpenter originally envisioned (I'm even going as far as to give Michael traditional parents, no Ronnie; also Judith and Laurie are not related to Michael, despite Judith coincidentally being named Myers. Again, no motive.)
- g) serves as a prequel-retcon-reboot-sequel to the remake
- h) restores Michael's Carpenter-era and Daeg-era dignity
- i) goes back to the old-school style of suspense rather than gore (However, if Rob Zombie cameos, his death scene will be quite bloody... and rightfully so [wink])
I have discovered this great program for script writing called Celtix, and am using it for my Halloween screenplay, which is currently untitled -- except for the subtitles The Return of Daeg Faerch and The Return and Revenge of Daeg Faerch. My MMPR screenplay was originally written in WordPad and then (when I got my new computer) transferred to Microsoft Works, which doesn't quite format scripts the way they should be -- everything is centered.
I was inspired to do it as a Daeg revenge project, rubbing it in Rob's face the recasting mistake he made. But it has since evolved from there into a complete reboot of sorts.
Which isn't to say I'm abandoning my MMPR project, no f'n way. That material is too good to sit on. I've got two projects being written at once, and so I need to balance things out.

I don't quite understand how you could like Rob Zombie's Halloween in the first place seeing has it was nothing but gore. Zero suspense.

I'm kind of in a sticky situation and am laying low on both my Power Rangers and Halloween projects. I have been researching some thinks I've been curious about, and apparently, there are (obvious) issues with writing a franchise/sequel/reboot/whatever screenplay to a property to which you don't own the rights.
“ | http://www.soyouwannasellascript.com/source/qaforum.cfm
The only company that could market/make this film is the original production company and/or studio. The production company and/or the studio are not going to give you the sequel rights to their film unless you have sufficient capital to purchase those rights. However, the rights holder MAY be interested in purchasing your concept of the sequel if they like your screenplay. Therefore, if you have written a sequel for a film that you do not hold the rights to, it is worth a shot to approach the rights holder about your version of a sequel. |
” |
But ScriptSecrets.net states, and in a very soul-crushing manner[/sarcasm] [laugh]
“ | Say you have a great idea for the *next* INDIANA JONES movie, or a killer concept for LETHAL WEAPON 5, or a fantastic notion of what might happen to Alex Foley in the next BEVERLY HILLS COP movie... should you just write the script and hope for the best? Who do you submit it to? Directly to the studios? To Spielberg or Eddie Murphy?
Sorry to break this to you - you can't submit that script to anyone. Writing it was a waste of time. Those characters are OWNED by producers, so writing about them would be stealing (not that the police will bust down your door for it, but if you tried to sell it you'd be in a heap-o-trouble). ... They are always looking for stories with "franchise-able characters" - characters who can appear in several sequels. ... So any sequel to an existing film is a cash cow for the studio - a VERY valuable asset. They don't just let anybody write a sequel - these are the most important scripts a studio has. The producers hire the writers to do the sequels. Not just any writers - they hire the best writers for the job. [I]f they were uninterested, [the producer] would have "auditioned" professional writers and chosen the one with the most interesting "take" on the material. After auditioning writers for [Franchise XYZ] they still hired 4 different writers to create POSSIBLE scripts then picked the script they liked. Your script wasn't in the running - COULD NOT have been in the running. |
” |
Click the link for the whole article, but basically, they're saying that a) it's a waste of time for a nobody to write a film based on an existing franchise, b) the producer picks the writer before a single word is written, c) sequels are written as assignments, d) Hollywood does not read your spec scripts, and e) the ONE and ONLY way to make it happen is if the producer or rights holder hires you.
So I am getting my ass in gear and jotting down every f'n original idea I can think of so that I can be established and be hired for these projects before everybody gets too old. My Ranger actor choices aren't gonna be teenagers forever. But the MMPR project (and any Halloween movie written with the intention of Daeg returning) MUST exist.
I'm trying to come up with everything from a quirky comedy to a low-budget horror slasher, to a trilogy of terror. These are the kind of movies I can direct myself and have as much creative control as possible. This way, I can better my chance of not only writing the franchise films of my dreams, but also directing them too. However, I have not been blessed with the fancy gadget known as a camera. [sad] And a lot of cameras are expensive and out of my financial range. I want to make these originals happen, but production-wise, I just don't know how. But mark my words: It will happen.
It's Morphin Time! [smile]

Re: PF4Eva[edit | edit source]
by PF4Eva (Thu Sep 24 2009 06:52:28)
While I haven't been working a whole lot on my project (see my previous post or two), I have come up with some ideas, such as revising the prologue, which I think is still a bit rough in spots and needs to be tweaked. I'm thinking about changing the prologue narrator to Zordon, telling the events [of] 10 thousand years ago to the audience. Then when we cut to him on screen in the present day, he's a weathered, aged old man head telling his story before the title and/or credits.
This prologue (and a few other scenes) would be shot in IMAX while the rest would be Panavision (aspect ratio 2.35:1 [cool]).
But I have been writing that quirky indie comedy I was talking about. Two teenage boys with historically notorious namesakes -- and one other boy, who shares his first name with a serial killer and his last name rhymes with that same killer -- try to make names for themselves (rather than their namesakes) by playing as a band at a talent show, but their egos and quirks clash.
- Carl Marx (to be played by Daeg) is always seen wearing a Hawaiian shirt, blue jeans, and dorky shoes.
- Richard "Ritchie" Nixon, the nerdy one -- think Rick Barbarette (Bill) on The Adventures of Pete & Pete -- is obsessed with orange soda.
- Charles Hanson, the
chubbydorky one -- thinkJerry O'Connell in Stand By Me orDave Martel (Teddy) on The Adventures of Pete & Pete -- is a huge fan of Charles Bronson (and is named for him by his Bronson-loving father) and speaks only in Shakespearean after reading Macbeth last year in eight grade. [laugh]
So it's a fun write. [laugh] It also has a narrator, who is Carl as an adult -- Think The Wonder Years. I was inspired to make the characters quirkier than they were from reading some of Matt Damon's quirks in the movie The Informant!, which I haven't seen yet. But he wears this ridiculous 1970s moustache, a 1970s trenchcoat, a ridiculous-looking necktie, and he's quite inept from what I've read. Sounds like a fun movie to see.
That's all the updates I have for now.

I have had a few ideas for Part 2 - Green with Evil. Tommy is given a potion by Zedd, but it's not strong enough and only makes him half-evil, sort of a Jekyll & Hyde story. But Tommy wouldn't be the only villain raising hell in Angel Grove. There would also be the Beamcaster (from the "Zedd Waves" episode -- "Hail Lord Zedd! Hail Lord Zedd! Hail Lord Fred!" [laugh]), played by (possibly):
Steve Coogan (Hell, I don't know. I was watching him in Hamlet 2 [laugh]) >> http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0176869/ <<
or F. Murray Abraham
I'd probably go with F. Murray since he played Salieri in Amadeus. I think Tommy's split personality coupled with Angel Grove citizens chanting "Hail Lord Zedd!" would make for a dark movie. Cool! [cool]

I, too, have my reservations about Beamcaster, and, like Rita, the character might require a massive makeover or update. I don't want him wearing tights and a ridiculously huge radio for a head , and I certainly don't want him to be over-the-top and hammed up by the actor. I want the actor to play it razor straight.
I want the actor to underplay the role. Just like Heath Ledger never went the Cesar Romero or Jack Nicholson routes when playing the Joker. Hell, I might even make the Beamcaster human or maybe even change his name if I have to. Or I might just create a brand new character based on Beamcaster... who knows?
And speaking of actors, I'm not too sure about Steve Coogan, too comedic (Hamlet 2, Night at the Museum 1 & 2). After watching There Will Be Blood last night, I saw Daniel-Day Lewis deliver a powerful performance, BECOMING Daniel Plainview. Now I have him in mind for either Beamcaster or Ivan Ooze, even though I think Steve Buscemi would still make a cool Ooze.
Whatever happens, I think I can find a way to make the Beamcaster work.

After playing it safe for a while and not continuing work on my screenplay, I just figured "Fuck it! There's gotta be a way to write this baby, despite what many others have said."
I have come up with more really interesting ideas, and am currently writing what is called a "scriptment" (For example, James Cameron wrote scriptments for Titanic, Spider-Man, and Avatar). Basically what it is, is half-treatment/ half-screenplay; It's a more detailed version of a treatment with a few lines here and there. It's like an epic treatment or an incomplete script/screenplay. In my scriptment, I am rewriting my prologue so that it's not quite as overblown or rough.
Also, I might need to trim out a few characters/subplots in order to cut down on the run time and expense of making such a long epic movie. This is gonna be tough, so I am only going to include the must-have key scenes in my scriptment and deal with scenes in my screenplay that could be trimmed without dire consequences or plot holes or continuity errors. Don't worry, most every movie nowadays goes through several rewrites before production rolls or it hits the screen. That's just the way the business goes.
That's all the updates I have for now. It's Morphin Time. [smile]
