I'm tired of seeing my name on every page I visit. - Sikon 12:39, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes. Hopefully it's a fad that is dying out. -- Hindleyite Converse?pedia 12:44, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Don't you mean to say: Is <insert name here> getting overused? --Sir ENeGMA (talk) GUN WotM PLS 15:43, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Of course not. It's just getting started. --General Insineratehymn 16:10, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Splarka gave me some code that breaks the USERNAME template (it just displays {{USERNAME}}), if anybody wants that. And yes, it's overused. —rc (t) 17:15, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks RC and Splarka for the code--—Braydie 17:40, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
  • I reccomend that instead of using "{{USERNAME}}", we all just write "Sikon". :) --Sir Zombiebaron 17:35, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Heh, I totally fell for that! - Sikon 17:42, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
Me too...--<<Bradmonogram.png>> 23:46, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
I've replaced "you" in the template with "Sikon". --thematrixeætsyou, the leader (talk) (flames) 06:04, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
Oh, great! Now I feel that "Sikon" is overused. Harumph!--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 01:57, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Yes, Ogopogo is overused. --<insert name here> 02:10, 11 December 2006 (UTC) --Ogopogo 02:10, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

I would love for that template to be deleted. Or at least have its appearance changed. I currently have it set to display in a different font etc, maybe that'd be better. Spang talk 03:58, 11 Dec 2006

I think the template has its uses in some situations. The old "OMG <insert name here> IZ STOOPID" is getting old. However, I can name at least one page off the top of my head in which the template works well with the page. Game Online multiplayer. You sign into the server as yourself. --User:Nintendorulez 01:57, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

I agree we need try to use it less and put a note on the USERNAME page that says:
USE SPARINGLY THIS TEMPLATE IS BECOMING OVERUSED. PLEASE SEE THIS DISSCUSIONFOR DETAILS
We should put some tips on how to use it too.--Scott 00:42, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Who's idea was {{USERNAME}} anyway? <insert name here>'s? Crazyswordsman...With SAVINGS!!!! (T/C) 02:42, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
No, it was <insert name here>'s, the cocksucker. -- §. | WotM | PLS | T | C | A 02:55, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
I think it was your idea actually. <insert name here> is only a cock sucker when s/he wants to be. If you agree with me, sign here.

The idea had been around a while, but it wasn't acted upon until this forum was posted. As you can see, I myself actually advised caution at the time, though I may have supported the idea overall to some extent...  c • > • cunwapquc? 19:03, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

I liked it better when it only worked once per page. Then you had to use finesse...it's just silly now.--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 03:03, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about that. My head's screwed down tight now. Orngjce223 03:20, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Say what you want, the Username gimmick freaked me the fuck out when I first saw It. I've been on this site 2 weeks and I honestly thought everybody already hated me. Usually it takes a month for that to happen.--Super90 03:39, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
OMG me too! Did you visit the stupid page? Cos that's that's where I first found it, and I seriously thought someone though I was retarded. It's a real shock isn't it? But at the time I thought it was because I had a completely retarded username. "Atomik Spongeface", now that's not retarded, is it? Spongey 19:19, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

It's amazing where the template appears. It is even in the DYK page... --KWild 13:18, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Noob bullying

My gilfie got caught by this template and posted an answer in 'How do you see other users' forum as if someone there referred to her username. When I warned her about the <insert name here>'s scam, she felt humilliated and rushed to delete the post, in full PMS fury, promising never again to write anything in Uncyclopedia. She was mad at me as well, as if I was expecting her to fall in the n00b trap. I'm not sure, fellas, this is the kind of stuff that makes the environment here very hostile to rookies. -- herr doktor needsAsample Rocket.gif [scream!] 22:43, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Maan, you may think girls like this don't exist, but mine is a reporter that writes about videogames. And she's very pretty, I'm glad to attest. :D herr doktor needsAsample Rocket.gif [scream!] 22:53, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Also, she enjoys signing on under NeedABrain's accout while posting. - Lemon. Lemonwedge.gif 23:11, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Vote from users who will never ever use {{USERNAME}}, because it apparently embarrasses hot girlfriends (not that we'd know about that part). Also, this is a really long title. I didn't notice until I previewed, but...

UPDATE

The username template has been disabled and has now been changed to <insert name here> I WAS HERE -kjhf!-

Why won't it get changed back despite the vote taken? Who's behind this anyway? --User:Nintendorulez 20:26, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Simple way to reduce freakiness

I admit, even I get a little freaked out when I see my name in various places, because it still isn't always obvious which way it got there until you waste time to click "edit". Even a well-intentioned gag can go a little too far into making people think they're being stalked (which I don't feel, but I can see why someone might). Therefore, a simple solution is to have most instances link to the template's page, so that one click will reveal how the trick was done. (For those of us with names that are the same as common links, like "Wilde", this will clarify which was being used. And really, the uninitiated would be most eager to click on that link immediately anyway, right?) After all, we don't want to scare the kiddies. Example: I know where you live, <insert name here>. Does that work? —Lenoxus 08:10, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Sure, why not? — <insert name here> 08:22, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
I like this idea, too. Well done, Lenoxus and <insert name here>. Is there a way to get this so that it automagically does this?--<<Bradmonogram.png>> 12:37, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
Done. Good idea! -- Paw print.jpg 12:59, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
Just to let you know, this has caused problems on pages where the template is used inside of another link already - examples are User and Template:N00b. So either all these need fixing or we need to revert and think again... --Strange.PNG (but) Untrue  Whhhy?Whut? How? *Back from the dead* 14:35, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
It's a good idea, but will also make it impossible to link to something like Special:Mypage with it. Or you could add a parameter to change the target, e.g. [[{{{1|template:USERNAME}}}| code ]]
Current solution for the curious is {{USERLINK}}. -- Lenoxus 17:02, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

I think <insert name here> is just jealous of the person who created the {{USERNAME}} tag.--Metropolis 01:38, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Ha! What you should have written is something like "<insert name here>", because I thought you were making that accusation against me for having made the new template. Of course, there I go shamelessly plugging its uses… -- Lenoxus 00:52, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
