The Pop Industry Project is a music themed competition-reality TV hybrid series. It focuses on actual real-world musicians going on a quest for music stardom. You can say that they're not as famous as they are in real life, but in this competition, it takes place in a house that never exists. It also takes place in a city that doesn't exist. Apparently, you thought reality shows take place in real life but it takes place in an area that doesn't exist in real life, but it's all fictional. Even though these artists have several years of experience, they are treated as if their real life careers never existed in the first place. These artists release music weekly in order to dominate the charts. It used to focus more on the artists since the hosts were anonymous at the time. The series focuses on the hosts of the season starting in Season 2. It has been considered to be "the Fishtank of the music industry".

The series is broadcasted on YouTube. Currently, there are 11 seasons of the series to date, with the first season being released in 2013. However, it goes all the way back.

Production[edit | edit source]

The Pop Industry Project originally began in 2012 as Pop Survivor, where the anonymous music mogul talks about two real world record labels looking for a manager and creative director to guide the next generation of artists. Throughout the game the artists have to complete six tasks in order to be the "artist of the generation". Due to financial reasons, Pop Survivor never existed, replacing with another show, The Pop Industry Project. Asides from the music mogul himself, three other hosts (whose names have been redacted for privacy reasons) have decided to reformat the entire show. In that case, the contestants will live in the same house, similar to Big Brother. Artists can submit their thoughts on Popter (a parody of Twitter) for streaming points. Original contestants Christina Aguilera (the Latin Disney star), Rihanna (the one with the giant forehead) and One Direction (the boy band that decided to go metal for the oddest reasons) return, while the other 3 will return in future seasons. Asides from that, there were new contestants, including P!nk (the one who decided to replace the 'i' in the word pink with an exclamation mark instead for some reason), Demi Lovato (whose favorite object in the world is mugs), Katy Perry (the prostitute), Marina And The Diamonds (or just Marina), Ariana Grande (everyone's favorite high-pitched donut licker), Lady Gaga (the meat dress wearing metrosexual), Misha B (nobody cares), Mariah Carey (the bringer of Christmas, see also: Avi Toledano) and Nicole Scherzinger (the only relevant one in The Pussycat Dolls). In the series, it focuses more on the challenges that the artists have to do. While the artists can release music, they're only allowed to if they're still in. Whoever has the least number of points gets eliminated and never comes back. The charts at the time were randomized, so predictions don't usually happen most of the time. It also introduced TMZ, which reports on the latest gossip. The winner of the first season was Lady Gaga.

After the first season ended, in 2014, Lady Gaga bought rights to host the show for $1 million. She decided to enlist her friends from the industry to help her host the competition, including Katy Perry, Marina and Kesha, the latter who was in Pop Survivor and also likes replacing the letter S with the dollar sign for no good reason at all. This time, the competition focuses more on the charts rather than the challenges, so now the charts have been revamped entirely out of scratch. New charts included the Digital Songs Chart, Radio Songs Chart and Streaming Songs Chart, with a formula behind these charts. Asides from that, Lana Del Rey has been promoted to host status, meaning that she will also be helping out the other hosts (and contestants) during the competition. Also, she's obsessed with long titles in songs and albums. New artists from this season include Miley Cyrus (not to be confused with Miley Davis), Natalia Kills (that mean judge from The X Factor), Adam Levine (the Andrew Tate of the music industry), Dannii Minogue (Kylie Minogue's sister who's not popular), Selena Gomez (that really hot chick from Wizards of Waverly Place), The Saturdays (a band that you've never heard of unless you live in the United Kingdom), Justin Timberlake (also an attorney), Beyoncé (Uncyclopedia does have an article on her, apparently), Britney Spears (the most Bat Fuck Insane female artist of all time) and Avril Lavigne (who claims to be a pop punk princess). This format will be used for future seasons, until Season 9. The winner of said season was Adam Levine. It was also the season that the first Pop Awards happened.

Gaga decided to host another season in the same year because she felt like doing so. This time, she enlisted Levine to host it as well. New artists of the season include Nicki Minaj (aka Secret Black Barbie Project), Ciara (who was really popular back in the 2000s), Shakira Shakira (a female goat from Colombia), Iggy Azalea (not to be confused with Azealia Banks), Madonna (Jesus Christ's mother), Janet Jackson (whose tits were shown on TV), Little Mix (the British Fifth Harmony), OneRepublic (a band that compromises mostly of singer-songwriters), and Azealia Banks (who is also an expert animal huffer). The winner of the season was Britney Spears. The show also spawned a Christmas spin-off, entitled The Pop Industry Project: Christmas Special. New contestants include Ellie Goulding (the try-hard British Ariana Grande), Charli XCX (the self-proclaimed Princess of Hyperpop), Gwen Stefani (a weeaboo), Aaliyah (who's been dead for like several years now), Ella Eyre (who?), FKA twigs (the FKA stands for Fucking Kill All), BANKS (the good version of Azealia Banks), Taylor Swift (the mastermind behind all your favorite songs that you've listened to in your life), Colbie Calliat (just like Ciara, she was relevant during her prime) and Kylie Minogue (the Australian Britney Spears). Season 3 introduced the most amount of artists at the time, with 19. The winner of the Christmas Special was Miley Cyrus. Also, there weren't any eliminations.

The Pop Industry Project returned in 2015 with a fourth season, with the introduction of remixes and album reissues, allowing singles and albums to chart higher than they used to. However, they can be only used once for a single remix/album. It also introduced the live Twitter feed, where fans can comment on what's going on in the season, and to root for their favorite artists to win, a feature that would be used until 2019. This season also introduced artists like Florence + The Machine (known for their Bat Fuck Insane album covers), Allie X (the reject Ariana Grande), Koda Kumi (who can't be made into an Unyclopedia article for some reason), Brandon Flowers (the metrosexual frontman of The Killers), Namie Amuro (another Japanese artist), Meghan Trainor (the most self-pretentious female artist of the past decade), Zayn Malik (the cheater from One Direction), Liam Payne (the homophobic one from One Direction), Bonnie McKee (a random songwriter turned singer with a failed career), Kim Kardashian (who was married to Kanye West at the time), Hilary Duff (another hot babe from Disney), Sia (that one person who loves to hide her eyes with her hair), and Paris Hilton (who has a hotel in Paris with the same name). The winner of that season was (unsurprisingly) Taylor Swift. This season also has a spinoff season, this time it's based on the past. Entitled The Pop Industry Project: The Prologue, it does not have a Twitter feed as there wasn't Twitter in the past, and no charts. It's just entries. Artists introduced in this spin-off include Foxes (another female artist with a whiny high-pitched voice that you might recognize from Zedd's "Clarity"), Josef Salvat (a really hot Australian dude), BoA (the first ever Korean pop artist to be in this show), Halsey (another self-pretentious artist at the time, although she's not as self-pretentious as she used to), Melanie Martinez (an adult baby) and Tinashe (a tryhard Rihanna). This time Allie X won that one. Season 4 this time tied Season 3's amount of artists introduced, with 19.

Season 5 would be the first one to be split into more than one part-season. There were 3 of them, and the charts were overhauled this time. New artists included Troye Sivan (that Vine guy who'd go on to be a successful artist and also star on The Weeknd's terrible show), Jennifer Lawrence (that hot chick from the Hunger Games), Alessia Cara (an artist who nearly fell off during the 2020s), Tori Amos (part ginger and part vampire), Mandy Moore (another really popular artist who's only popular in the 2000s), Zendaya (an actress that young teenagers are really obsessed with because she dates Tom Holland), Lily Allen (who is NOT Amy Winehouse), Gerard Way (probably one of the most talented artists here, but that's not saying much), Adam Lambert (the gayer Freddie Mercury replacement), Cheryl Fernandez-Versini (whose article on Wikipedia is, for some reason, semi-protected), Tove Lo (basically Love To with the first letters of each word swapped), Grant Gustin (Nickelodeon actor turned thirst trap), Victoria Justice (another Nickelodeon actress who starred in her own show), Björk (one of the few Icelandic people that you might know of), Carly Rae Jepsen (non-fans know her for that one song), Erika Jayne (a reality star, not like Kim Kardashian or something), Lorde (basically the word lord but with the letter e appended in the end), Harry Styles (the only relevant guy from One Direction), Lea Michele (who starred in a musical or something), SZA (pronounced scissors), Lupita Nyong'o (technically an actress, but I'm not the one making the rules), Zac Efron (originally named Troy Bolton, but due to copyright issues the hosts have to find out who was Troy Bolton and they found out that it was Zac Efron all along), Girls Generation (a K-pop girl group that has been around since forever), Leona Lewis (known for that one song, just like Carly Rae Jepsen), Poppy (formerly That Poppy, who also managed to copy Mars Argo and Grimes), Kylie Jenner (another Kardashian-Jenner? Noooooo!) and Taylor Lautner (you know, Edward from Twilight). This season broke the record for most artists introduced in one season, with 27. The winners from each part-season were Troye Sivan, Adam Levine (who became the first artist to win the competition twice) and Mariah Carey.

Season 6 would have part-seasons again, this time into two. It introduced a new scoring system and removed eliminations entirely, so now anyone's songs and albums can continue charting until the season's over. It also introduced legacy artists. However, some artists have their legacy status revoked due to a new system introduced in 2021. New artists introduced in Season 6 were Dua Lipa (that really hot babe that you don't have a chance with who's also part Albanian), Alexx Mack (a nobody), RuPaul (the one that popularized drag queens), Broods (some random indie pop duo), Ingrid Michaelson (a reject female version of Jason Mraz), Emily Ratajkowski (a hot chick with a really long surname), Fergie (the first ever female white rapper), Lil Debbie (not to be confused with a certain snack cake brand), Tiffany Hwang (one of the Girls Generation members) and Belinda (is this 2002 all over again?) The winners of these two part seasons were Kesha and Rihanna.

Season 7 would change the charts yet again, and the Box Office and Metacritic features would be introduced. It was also the final season where the Twitter feed would be used. New artists include Perrie Edwards (who was technically there with Little Mix 4 seasons ago), Shawn Mendes (yes, the same Canadian pop star who claims to be straight), Adore Delano, (another drag queen), Jungkook (the rabbit from BTS), Jennifer Lopez (who loves singing about tacos and is secretly a hand puppet), Zara Larsson (a hot babe from Sweden who's only popular in Europe), and The Weeknd (that guy who used to have a really weird hairstyle). If you don't count Season 0, this season would've introduced the least amount of artists, with 7. Kesha would become the first female artist to win the competition twice, while Tove Lo won the second part of the season.

As mentioned, Season 8 would become the first season where the Twitter feed was axed due to budget cuts. Instead, while the public can still buy songs to support their favorite artists, their tweets will no longer show up during the streams. Rather, the YouTube chat is being used instead as a feed, even though it goes fast. New artists include Hyuna (another K-pop artist), Normani (who has yet to release her debut album), Rita Ora (the white Rihanna, except she's not influential or anything), Amelia Lily (nobody gives a shit), Brendon Urie (the classical emo), Carrie Underwood (who kinda still does songs to this day), Amanda Seyfried (the actress who portrayed Karen Smith in Mean Girls), Tiffany Pollard (a reality star from the 2000s that is also a meanie), Sunmi (another Wonder Girls member), Kacey Musgraves (the tryhard Taylor Swift), Charlie Puth (known for his hairy armpits and not his songs), Bruno Mars (is he really gay?), T.O.P. (that rapper from BIGBANG), Rosalia (known for her fast paced flamenco songs), Justin Bieber (who, surprisingly, wasn't in the past 7 seasons or so), Kim Petras (one of the biggest transgender celebrities out there), Ed Sheeran (the one true god of Britain, duh), Robyn (known to have that one guy named Calum Scott have a cover of her songs be more popular than hers) and SOPHIE (RIP). This time, Justin Timberlake won the first part and Kesha won the second part, making her the first artist to win three times in the competition.

Season 9 was originally going to take place in 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been moved to next year, which was 2021. This time, instead of winning by submitting challenge entries, it's based on how many points you get in the charts. Also, challenges are no longer mandatory and instead, the artists could choose from one of the choices in the Challenge Room, which is next to the kitchen in the house. Also, from now on, the house used in Season 8 will be the residence for the artists, until something changes. This time, the season is split into 3 part seasons. New artists include Hwasa (yet another K-pop artist), The Blessed Madonna (who used to be black), Doja Cat (a catgirl on Marijuana, which technically makes her a furry), JoJo (not the girl who has an obsession with hair bows), Cha Eunwoo (how many K-pop artists are in this thing?), Cher (known for her tweets), Rico Nasty (who really didn't do anything at all this season), Dagny (a lesser known artist from Norway), Kandi (another reality star from Flavor of Love), Niall Horan (that really cute Irish guy from One DIrection, not my opinion) Honest Vocal Coach (a YouTuber, apparently), Madison Beer (who was Justin Bieber's girlfriend), Hayley Williams (that hot ginger emo chick), Jennie (a Blackpink member who is also Po from the Teletubbies), Megan Thee Stallion (as her name suggests, she is a horse), Erika de Casier (huh???), and Kali Uchis (you might know her from Tyler, The Creator's song See You Again or her Spanish album). Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac was originally going to make her debut this season but due to scheduling conflicts she didn't make it to the season. Rihanna won all the part seasons, making her the first artist to win all part seasons in one season and now has the most wins of any artist.

Season 10 takes place in the year 2022. To focus on charts, the Box Office permanently closes since tours are now just a challenge option. New artists this time around include Billie Eilish (the epitome of Bat Fuck Insane as a member of Generation Z, since she likes eating spiders), Florence Welch (technically was in Season 4, but this is the first time she's embarking on a solo career), Rina Sawayama (the newest lesbian feminist), Machine Gun Kelly (also a satanist and mobster) and Saweetie (the one who sold more McDonald's meals than records), Chloe x Halle (also a pair of actresses), Maggie Lindemann (a pop star turned rock star), Lindsay Lohan (that's so fetch) and Rosé (the Tinky Winky of Blackpink). Demi Lovato won the first part of this season, while Kacey Musgraves won the second part of this season.

Currently, Season 11 which premiered in 2023, introduces a new membership system. If you subscribe to their YouTube channel and buy their membership, donate to them, or boost their Discord Server, you can get perks such as a badge next to your name, emojis to use in comments and live chat, a hidden Discord channel, an exclusive chat box, and more. Some changes were made to the charts, and new categories were introduced in this years Pop Awards, thus increasing that amount to 19. New artists include Sabrina Carpenter (yet another popular Disney star), Lisa (the leader of Blackpink, and also the Dipsy of that group), Jack Harlow (basically Charlie Puth if he was a rapper), Suki Waterhouse (not to be confused with Amy Winehouse), Amy Lee (a hot rock babe that you seriously don't have a chance with), Matt Shadows (that guy whose band couldn't be made into an Uncyclopedia article), Ava Max (the girl with an asymmetrical hairstyle), and Lykke Li (whose songs cater to Tumblr fangirls). Grant Gustin won the first part of the season.
