Forum:The State of the UnSignpost
Hello all,
A little while ago, if you noticed, the UnSignpost stopped producing. That is because it lost all funny and therefore nobody felt obligated to write it.
About a week ago EMC and I made the decision to go ahead and take over the signpost and attempt to restore it to it's previous levels of funny.
Long story short, Chiefjustice refuses to allow edits to the USP page, refuses to allow us to take over the USP and basically wants it to die out. You can see the discussion on his talk page.
So here's where you, the average Uncyclopedian, determine the fate of the USP.

For allowing HGA and EMC to take over the UnSignpost, edit the USP page to their (and the community's) liking, and begin restructuring the USP and putting out new signposts weekly every other week.

- Against. The operative words being "take over." See comments. Spıke ¬ 01:29 3-Jun-12
- Against. Anyone should be able to contribute to it, and no-one owns it etc. ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!) 02:06, June 3, 2012 (UTC)
- I am against the whole concept of this vote. Nobody can "take over" the UnSignpost because the UnSignpost belongs to the community. -- The Zombiebaron 03:45, June 3, 2012 (UTC)
- Against. As I said on my talk page, I'm not against the writing of the USP, but rather the "taking over" of the USP. As I said to you already, if you want to write the USP, go ahead and write it. Slapping your name on the front page and declaring yourself king of the UnSignpost is not writing it. --ChiefjusticeGameCube 06:59, June 3, 2012 (UTC)
- Against letting some dude who thinks grues and swastikas are pretty funny use an established Uncyc tradition for self promotion. -OptyC Sucks! CUN08:00, 3 Jun
- Against The "taking over" of the UnSignpost. I understand if Aimsplode was mislead into believing that ChiefjusticsDS "owned" the UnSignpost because he's easily the single-largest contributor we have, but 'Splode, you should understand by now that this is not the case. Nobody owns UnSignpost, just like nobody owns UnNews or UnScripts or IC. It's a community project, and you're free to take up the responsibility of managing it. But remember, it's just a voluntary responsibility which won't get you any extra cred. Because community projects are not the place for one-upmanship or building some sort of reputation for yourself. The project itself has more value than any individual concerned with it. And that's going to remain the case. As for the whole "wiping the slate clean" thing, why don't we just introduce a new list of "Active Editors" which EMC and Aimsplode could manage, and leave the current list alone? Sounds like a simple, common sense solution to me. --Scofield & 1337 08:47, June 3, 2012 (UTC)
- Against - As everyone has already said, the USP is a community project, noone owns it. It's good that you want to try and help to make things better but you can't just go and forcefully take over something and consider virtually everyone who has helped in the past as being "redundant". How would you feel if you were Chief and someone tried to take over something you care about just completely out of the blue? Noone said you can't help but declaring yourself as the overlord of the USP is taking the piss a bit. -- Lost Labyrinth • (t) • (c) • (a) 14:15, June 3, 2012 (UTC)
- Against Daft idea from Aims and EMC. --RomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 23:28, June 4, 2012 (UTC)
- Against. It should be for the people of Uncyclopedia. This is a democracy, after all. Also, PISS--- 02:33, June 5, 2012 (UTC)
For allowing everyone who wishes to submit stories and create UnSignpost issues (including Aimsplode and EMC, but excluding vandals and trolls) to do so, and possibly changing the USP page to distinguish main editors from occasional editors. Whether the UnSignpost is distributed every 7, 14, 8, 11 or a randomly changing amount of days, frankly, I don't care. Whatever suits the people writing it will do.
- Sounds reasonable. To me, at least. ; ) 03:29, 3 June 2012
- I'd love to see the unsignpost running again. ~ Sun, Jun 3 '12 3:37 (UTC)

Discussion part
After posting your vote, voice your opinion here.
- How about you and e|m|c (read: e|m|c) actually make an unsignpost in one of your user-spaces, before you come here and start asking if you can just take it the fuck over? Give us a taste of what you're gonna do first, or else get lost. ~ Sun, Jun 3 '12 1:19 (UTC)
- I second the above, never seen either of you write it. ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!) 01:21, June 3, 2012 (UTC)
- EMC already wrote one; I'm currently writing the next. See: The latest fucking issue. 01:45, June 3, 2012 (UTC)
- Ok, and where's your edition? You should link both of them, right up there where you started the vote. ~ Sun, Jun 3 '12 2:59 (UTC)
- Young tyro reads the riot act to the Chief, loses the exchange, and creates a Forum to get him outvoted. If "the community" grants Aimsplode a territory inside Uncyclopedia, someone will have to explain to the much more competent TheHumbucker, if you can find him now, why he was denied the same at UnNews, also about the serial grief I took during my year in the chair. Mordillo would welcome Aimsplode to churn out an issue, at the end of his three-day ban for this latest major disruption to the creation of funny articles (though I'd get a day for predicting his actions). Spıke ¬ 01:27 3-Jun-12
- You're calling a ban? Wow.
- He's only saying what Mordillo would probably do. We can't really blame you for creating this forum, though, Chief having suggested it in the first place.
- I think he's talking about having 5000-word discussions with Chief on his talk page about it. ~ Sun, Jun 3 '12 2:57 (UTC)

- Hey, sighing isn't an opinion.
- Aimsplode, this vote is not going to work in your favour. Sorry. If you really want to create something, then go and concieve of a new project, or a new cnocept. You could start a page where you list the most interesting articles in the userspace of established writers making it and updating it from time to time. I think users would like to have a space like that and would be very impressed if you did. Or you could start a page where you could feature an image each week that you found on the web and challenge users to write an article based on it. Aimsplode, its nice that you are being bold and want to get your hands dirty, it would be far more constructive and useful if you go and try something new on your userspace (IMHO of course). --ShabiDOO 02:35, June 3, 2012 (UTC)

- Hey, sighing isn't an opinion.
- I'd just like to add my 2 cents by saying it would be better if the Unsignpost came out every 2 weeks rather than every week, to avoid getting writers busy with it too much, because writer ranks are growing awfully thin. Mattsnow 01:36, June 3, 2012 (UTC)
- Ya'know, I'd have to agree with you there. It could be bigger, too, and give our writers more time to perfect their stuff. 01:45, June 3, 2012 (UTC)
- Maybe we should start a seperate, NSFW USP just for that. Seems like a good idea to me. 14:35, June 3, 2012 (UTC)
