PEE review[edit source]

Hi Matfen815 and thanks for taking the time to contribute to PEE review, no really, thanks. We always appreciate people taking the time to help out others. Just be aware when you do to check the article's entry page to see if another user has already said that they will do it, as it just means that if they are in the middle of writing they don't lose all their work. Don't worry about it too much. Thanks again for contributing. --ChiefjusticeDS 21:35, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the review. I wasn't entirely sure if it would come over as overly xenophobic - which was rather the opposite of what I'd intended. Anyhow, glad you liked it and thanks again. I'll see about the corrections when i sober up. --Sog1970 22:15, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

David Lynch[edit source]

I like a lot of what you added, and I didn't like a lot, too. Thing about it is, it's kind of my article in the sense that I wrote it and it got featured and whatnot, so yeah. I know this is a wiki, so if you want to add something to that or any other article, you can, but that also means I reserve the right to revert whatever it is you add, or at least delete large portions of it. I don't mean to get all passive-aggressive or anything, and I do find a lot of what you added funny, but when it comes down to it I don't like other people editing stuff of mine, so yeah. I suppose I have to live with it, with this being a wiki and all, but if you find a large portion of the stuff you added gone the next time you go to the Lynch article, just know it's nothing personal, or anything. So yeah.

Anyway, from the looks of it, you seem to be fairly new here. That being said, have fun! Hope ya stick around, and whatnot. This is a cool little site, and once you get to know the place it's a riot. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 05:37, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

RE your comments on VFH[edit source]

I nearly missed them as I rarely go back and check after I have finished voting on an article. Now ignoring you sarcasm, no, I didn't get the feeling that it was a take on the Al Pacino style of film and the stereotyping in there, which is why I said what I did. The truth is I read it and felt uncomfortable, and I'm as white as they come Australian. If I found it... well, I won't say offensive, as I wasn't, but I will say questionable, then I dare to say that others will too, which is one of the reasons that I wouldn't vote for it for front page.

Secondary to that though is the fact that if I ignored this section, which I did, I didn't feel that the article carried the humour through to the end. Fantastic concept, brilliant imagery, but it seems to meander back and forth across styles, with a lack of consistency on the voice.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying it's a bad article, far from it. I think it could be improved though. I think with a number of good edits - say a 10% - 20% amendment for the better - it could be far better.

One thing I will say on the listy aspect, even though that wasn't a criticism of mine, is that I've noticed if you have your lists in a few columns it doesn't have as much of a negative effect. Usually I think of it as just clearing up whitespace. kind of like this.

Hope that clears it up. Sorry if you were offended by what I said, but I re-read it and still can't get the funny out of the stereotyping, even with the fact that you are ripping on the stereotyping in the movies themselves.

Pup t 04:50, 23/10/2009

Thanks for explaining things, and helping me understand your issues with it. Maybe I have watched too many "growing up in the hood" movies, and can't really properly recognise the inherent racism. I liked the box idea very much, so much that I have already put it in. thnx anyway, and in a few days or so I may do some edits where I would not have noticed them right now. --Matfen815 09:51, October 23, 2009 (UTC)
P.S. If you thought this was racist, i would love to hear what you think about my Christian Bale article. --Matfen815 12:36, October 23, 2009 (UTC)
Long. But there's good stuff in there. I'm assuming you're relating to the stuff on Kanye, and to be honest that doesn't bother me as a racial stereotype as much as the other. In fact, this is almost like watching Be Cool and the stereotype of the rappers from the hood, as much as a stab at Kanye himself. Having said that I don't think that it fits in with the rest of the article as it is a script, rather than an encyclopaedic entry. I would potentially look at splitting this into two articles - the UnScript of the Leno show - which could be expanded into an article of it's own - and the remainder being the encyclopaedic entry on Bale. You have modelled most of it on Wikipedia:Christian Bale which I think is fantastic. Keep it the same structure up to the Filmography and awards (as a list of awards and films starts to become listy and unfunny) and it will be a stronger article.
P.S. I love the Kermit the frog images. Very cool. Pup t 06:45, 24/10/2009

Christian Bale[edit source]

Okay, I haven't been asked for this, but I'm going to say it anyway because I really like the way this article is shaping up. Christian Bale has a huge amount of potential, but I am having problems with the Baleism section. Can that be twisted into Christian Bale, in an attempt to tone down his violence due to ever growing civil and criminal charges, sought solace in religion. Realising that he was in fact superior (in his own mind) to any number of Deities that he compared himself to, it was only natural that he then declare himself his own Deity. "I sought help from my higher power", he said, "Only to discover that there was no power higher than me."

Second thing is the fun facts/Trivia section. I despise this section on IMDB and Wikipedia, and even though it is what you are trying to emulate/parody, even on Wikipedia the preference is now to do away with these sections as part of their style guide. (I know I've read it somewhere, but buggered if I can find the reference now.) I also have an issue with the {{USERNAME}} as I feel that it is a little over-used, and here it doesn't really feel right at all. Could I suggest going through this and winnowing it out, cutting it down to about half the length that it is now?

Thirdly, I would really like to nominate this for VFH, but I am also a really stringent bastard and try to get my own work as close to perfect as I can before I nominate it. So keep me in the loop as to what changes you make to it, and what changes you're thinking of making.

Oh, and lastly, I've had my internet capped for the month, which slows me down so much that I avoid the issue by browsing without images. The stars that you use in the infobox are taken from another site and they make a horrible mess when you have images off. Could I suggest you upload them to Uncyc media so you can [[Image:Star1.gif|✱]] [[Image:Star2.gif|✲]]. That way if there is an issue with the image loading it will still give the same effect. or alternatively, just replace the with ✱ and ✲.

And sorry for the unsolicited advice, but as I said, it has potential to be your first feature, and I'd like to see it get over the line.

Pup 22:50, 28/10/2009

very kind of you for your input, and I wondered why some of my artices were running abit slower than usual. I just need to clarify some stuff before I start editing.
  1. Do you want a complete rewrite for the baleism section, or do you just want me to replace what conflicts with the new stuff?
  2. Do you want the entire fun fact and trivia setion removed, or just around half of it. I looked through it and theres only about 6 I really like, and I suppose I could try integrating them into other places in the article. eg Personal Life. I'll admit that I only really created the facts section because there were a few i had in mind, and it was somewhere to put the funny pictures that I either don't have room for or can't make relevant to any other section.
  3. ON the gangsta-meter rating thing, if you feel it should just be taken out, I'll understand because to be honest, that was more of an inside joke I've always had, that I'm not sure anyone else finds funny besides me.
I am quite surprised that anyone else in the world knows who Christian Bale is. I have been a fan of his since I was 14, and cannot help but include him in all my articles so far. I dunno why, it just keeps happening. I need mental help. Anyway, thank-you very much for your help, you are surely one of the better uncyclopedians out there, as well as one of the friendlier ones. Deepest sympathies about your internet, and can only hope it eventually returns to its original bandwith. I failed my driving test with 5 minors and 1 major today, so am also quite cheesed off. anyway thanks again. --Matfen815 19:25, October 29, 2009 (UTC)
The gangsta-meter thing is minor. I only mentioned it because of the issue it caused with images not loading. It's a good parody of the whole IMDB thing, so it's worth keeping.
If you can completely cull the fun facts section, then do it. It is a weakness in the article.
As for the Baleism section, my concern was that it came in too strong too fast, and it should be used more as an opportunity to show how arrogant he is.
And to be honest, wouldn't have recognised Christian Bale's name if it weren't for the Terminator incident. If you can add an MP3 of that to this article it would work in well.
Sorry to hear about the driving test. Most people I know miss out first time around, so don't take it personally. Pup 00:37, 30/10/2009

Okay, I've done all the changes, so you might like to have a quick glance to see if I've missed anything out anything. Right now I just need to proof-read it if you have no more changes to recommend, so i'll tell you when it is ready for highlight if i hear nothing else from you. I'm also working on that MP3 for the article as well, which shouldn't take too long.

--Matfen815 18:11, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

I liked the article on Christian Bale. That was the reason I suggested the minor changes as it was going a bit too far in my view especially about Christopher Nolan. Best if you are going to write about someone living is to make so silly that no one could get offended or use what is already out there as known facts (like Christian Bale's temper). Hope you do stick around - this is a very good start . --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate). 12:16, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Monsieur Bale[edit source]

Hey man, sorry, didn't mean to be rude and I'd actually have left that as an abstain or not voted at all but that I was eagerly awaiting my next smoke and hence not really in sympathetic mode. There's nothing actually wrong with the article, I can't really defend my choice except that it didn't consistently make me laugh and isn't the type of article I personally like to read, but that's not really a reason to vote against, so I'll remove the vote. Apologies --El Sid, the lazy oneparlez-vous franglais? 21:58, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Review of Obi-Wan Kenobi[edit source]

You are welcome on the review. I am glad you have taken it to be constructive rather than an insult. As a new user to Uncycloperdia (I only found out about its existence quite recently) I was a little worried that you may take it badly as, quite obviously, I don't know you. As such, I did feel a little reluctant to post that review because, as we all know, writing a funny article is not easy. As I said in the review, it was obvious that a lot of effort had gone into it.

Having briefly looked at some of the Star Wars entries since receiving your message, I agree that some of your material would go quite well in those. (Particularly the prequel trilogy, which looked rather threadbare). Anyway, keep up the good work on the writing. Articles written by people who abviously know the subject matter well are probably always going to get make a better read. SuperBario 13:21, November 8, 2009 (UTC)

Well, then you can correct any mistakes you see. That's obvious. And I didn't want to make bad grammar intentionally. And btw, never, ever, ever use English-Polish translator. Translator doesn't feel our language at all and as a result gives something I hardly even understand :) (translator can't see when to change case and use different aspect etc.) Polish is totally fucked up and impossible to translate this way, believe me. Moving pages 101[edit source]

When you want to move something to your space, please use the move tab (part of the edit menu of an article) and then list the created redirect in QVFD. Otherwise, you're setting off a lot of people who see a sudden blanking of a page. Thanks. ~Jewriken.GIF 16:55, November 24, 2009 (UTC)

I'm still not entirely sure what you mean, but safe to say I will be doing all ground up articles in my User space and then moving them to the real article page. Then i will VFQD the empty user space page. My apologies, I've just been slowing down a bit lately. --Matfen 17:05, November 24, 2009 (UTC)
When you edit, there is an option called "move". If you do that, the article will be moved to the new name and you don't have to recreate it and blank the original, thereby raising several alarms and automated snipers. When you move an article, a redirect is created to the new location of the article, list that in QVFD. Am I making more sense now? ~Jewriken.GIF 19:18, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, pal. It all looks straight on mine. Unless you mean the picture to the left of recent work. Much thanks Whyniverse. It was one of my earlier articles, when I was still learning the ropes, and hadn't yet overdosed on Chuck Norris and Russian Reversal refererences. It does appear my imagination went on a huge walk, when I wrote this one. It's why I though I'd get it reviewed so I'd know where to go when I wanted to get it up to standards. Thanks again. I'm going to have to come up with another angle, although I'm having difficulty at the moment, but I'm sure I will eventually. --Matfen 12:18, December 19, 2009 (UTC)
The first few times I looked at this site, I thought an Oscar Wilde quote at the beginning of an article was virtually required. Fortunately, a long time later when I got around to actually editing, I'd already read several featured articles. It's weird how what's the most common here isn't what's generally accepted by admins and featured writers. In any case, as I said I think your writing definitely shows talent; obviously, you've written featured articles since. Good luck with it! King of the Internet Alden Loveshade??? Reasonable British Dude[edit source]

Were it that I had cultivated any sort of belief in a deity, he would be thanked. I was waiting quite a while on that review. ty for the input. about 80% of that article was thrown together in an ROP class, so i cant say I was too happy with the result xD but i couldn't seem to focus on it, so i thought I'd get some input. lo and behold, it has come.

Anyways, the drink itself is, indeed, a parody of health drinks. the page to hold the powerthirst namespace before mine was a reiteration of the joke theme of this parody. THIS article, however, is a PARODY of the aforementioned parody. ^^ It's quite popular, on youtube, having received well over 17 million views, not counting the many millions it shares with its sequel and subsequent spin-offs. I'm more than surprised you didn't find it almost instantly with a google search. I recommend a look, as quite a few of the jokes, especially the listed side effects, are almost unintelligible without having seen it. And its pretty funny. If you DO decide to watch it, you HAVE to watch the second, "rocket edition". T'was a masterpiece. Ive taken most of your advice to heart, and as a fellow insomniac, will do my best to work out what kinks i can, as my consciousness fades into the coming dawn. --XcaptainXobliviousX 12:46, December 19, 2009 (UTC)

Well[edit source]

Well... it really depends because "Polak" spelled same as "Polack" means "the Pole" in Polish. But actually some Poles know that Polack in English is an offensive word. So you should be careful with using this ;). There is no one good answer. Actually, some people that do not speak English well can be happy that you call his nationality in their own language ;) Polisz.jpgSir Ptok-BentonicznyPisz tutaj KUN 16:36, December 19, 2009 (UTC)

To be honest: I would rather feel offended if some random American guy called me "Pollack" as I would know that he uses it as an ethnic slur.

Yeah, when you know it's being used as an ethnic slur you can pretty much take it for granted that it's offensive. BTW I'm highly offended that you implied me to be an american. But I'll let it slide seeing as I just used the word Polack about 4 times. We just wondered was all. We weren't planning to bully some polish person (we don't actually know any). You never know, we might start our own polish version of the wigger, "Wolack". Although Polish peeps are pretty much white anyway, so it doesn't make sense. Maybe a british person pretending to be polish could be called a "Bolack", although that would be close to the word "bollock", a british euphamism for a testicle. Either way, we have no hope of learning how to speak your language, so I don't think it'll take off. Thanks for your insightful lesson on polishical correctness ;) --Matfen 16:55, December 19, 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I didn't imply that You are American. I implied that American use that word more than other English users ;). And Wolack would work as here in Poland former Polish prime minister made a gaffe while singing Polish anthem. Instead of "z ziemi włoskiej do Polski" ("From Italy to Poland") he sang "z ziemi polskiej w(ł)olski" (that could be translated to 'from Poland to Woland"). Poles are still laughing at him due to this. That was popular internet phenomenom in Poland "Gdzie jest Wolska?" ("Where is Woland?) etc. So still, the Pole after being called 'Wolack' could wonder if you heard about that case ;). And rather not many Poles know what "bollock" means so Bolack would be a hidden offense ;) Polisz.jpgSir Ptok-BentonicznyPisz tutaj KUN 18:30, December 19, 2009 (UTC)

And if you wonder, the Poles sometimes (rather quite often tbh) call British people "Angole" (spelled: anɡɔlɛ in IPA) - word that derives from Anglia (what's England in Polish) and is similar to Angola - country in Africa; and is translated to Australian English word pommy. ;). It starts off quite straightmanish, and it looks like an actual page that would have a debate table for the Freedom of speech. Then at National security it starts getting off point, and really funny. Much like drama here that gets out of hand. Awesome! Are you looking for proper criticism, though? Because I can only spot a few small things that you'll probably have noticed anyway. --Matfen 13:51, December 21, 2009 (UTC)
A PEE review would be appreciated, but I don't want you to bust a gut over this, so just what do you feel can be done with this to make it sparkle will be fine. (I know that it needs more links and it needs categories, but those are down the line type of things.) Pup
OK, but I'm not that good at pee reviews (ignore the section below). I've only ever taken on reviews for articles that are in clear need of help, rather than excellent ones looking to achieve perfection. If you want another helping of Pee Review[edit source]

Yes, you likely already know this. But just a reminder that if a Pee Review by any reviewer, including me, doesn't help you in the way you hoped, you are free to request another one. Happy editing! King of the Internet Alden Loveshade??? (royal court)  17:34, December 25, 2009 (UTC)

An invitation to a prestigious club[edit source]

Hello Matfen815, I have journeyed long and far to reach you here on your talk page to make your dreams come true. Well, not really. See it has come to my attention that you have been contributing steadily and at a high standard to PEE review over the last month or so, therefore I would like to invite you to join the committee. This brings a number of perks, such as consideration for the Reviewer of the month award, a template for your user page and you may be called upon to review at times of crisis or severe backlog.

If you fancy accepting this invitation then head over to the committee page and sign under the header that reads Fresh Stain, add the template to your user page and then carry on as before. I hope to see you around PEE review in future. --ChiefjusticeDS 20:27, January 1, 2010 (UTC)

I might just do that. You had me going on the first sentence btw. --Matfen 20:33, January 1, 2010 (UTC)
I thought so, I sound most convincing when you can't actually hear me, welcome aboard. --ChiefjusticeDS 20:46, January 1, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the review Matt - good job! I don't like the golden shower award, so have cake instead - everyone likes cake... To reply to a couple of points - the German "zer" thing - the correct German is Der, Die or Das, so Zer sounds closer to any of those than Ze, which sounds cartoon French to me. And I think full stops after captions are a personal preference thing - I don't think I've ever done it. Apart from that, thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. See you around! --UU - natter UU Manhole.gif 09:57, Jan 3

Hi Matfen. I still can't vote for your article but I was too extreme in my earlier comments. I think perhaps I was mixing up VFH and VFD ! My apologies again. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 18:15, January 7, 2010 (UTC)

The two are often interchangeable. And I checked the history for the original comment and it wasn't that bad. I wouldn't have been too offended if you'd left it that way. Either way, I've noticed your votes on many other articles and respect your integrity when it comes to them. I would expect nothing different for my own. Just don't think we'll be holding hands any time soon, My partners have to buy their way into my heart. --Matfen 20:35, January 7, 2010 (UTC)

UN:BP[edit source]

This edit almost kept me from seeing the new entry to ban patrol. That template tells ops not to look at anything under it, so keep new subs on top. Be careful where you put things on places like ban patrol and QVFD. I'm pretty sure there's a joke to be made here about putting things into other things in a sexual fashion, but I've gotta run. - T.L.B. Thanks[edit source]

Thanks a lot man (I had written this before I've looked at the review to avoid frustration after possible low score ;p). Polisz.jpgSir Ptok-BentonicznyPisz tutaj KUN 18:33, January 10, 2010 (UTC)

You've pointed out some problems with tenses. Well, I changed some I found and I don't see any more problems. But well, I'm a Pole and we have a bit less tenses than Angoles ;p. E.g Past perfect and past simple are translated in the same fashion without any difference and English teachers usually freak out trying to explain the difference (and same: present simple and present continuous are also translated same) ;p. But still our language is much more fucked up. Polisz.jpgSir Ptok-BentonicznyPisz tutaj KUN 18:54, January 10, 2010 (UTC)
Hm... And actually I don't get what d'ya mean by "small script" in the miscellanblablastupidword section. Polisz.jpgSir Ptok-BentonicznyPisz tutaj KUN 18:59, January 10, 2010 (UTC)
You are welcome for the half-baked review. I meant the dialogue section, y'know where the guy says "You're going to get fucking bowled, faggot". While interesting enough, some voters may feel that it doesn't really fit into the article. They may just as easily overlook it, or not even notice at all. Just thought I'd make you aware. It was my other self, Bryan, who came up with that observation by the way. --Matfen 21:54, January 11, 2010 (UTC)

Sophia Coppola's Godfather Part IV[edit source]

Nah, I always appreciate a hand with formatting, so thank you. By the way, did anyone ever tell you the picture on your userpage looks more like Matthew Perry than Christian Bale? --Hugs and kisses, Black_Flamingo 23:05, January 23, 2010 (UTC)

Godamnit, you've nearly ruined the appeal for me now. I guess to make it more obvious, I'll have to write in big letters next to it, "Christian Bale". That'll sort it out, as soon as I find the time to get round to it. By the way, seeing as you seem to be pointing out all kinds of errors and weird visual quirks, you might like to take a look at VFH, as there's something wrong with it. --Matfen 23:18, January 23, 2010 (UTC)
Wow, I am seriously flattered. Kinda makes me feel bad for shitting all over your image. --Hugs and kisses, Black_Flamingo 23:23, January 23, 2010 (UTC)
You should, I was half tempted to vote against, despite nominating it. And that was after I gave up getting the table ready for vote for deletion. --Matfen 23:32, January 23, 2010 (UTC)
Haha. I still feel it needs an image to show that Don Fanucci resembles Wario, maybe it could replace the one currently in the characters section. What do you think? --Hugs and kisses, Black_Flamingo 23:38, January 23, 2010 (UTC)
It'd certainly be more relevant, but even so, you could probably get away with sticking it anywhere in the article as long as the formattings ok. Getting a good picture would be another thing as well. Would you do just wario, just fanucci, splice both images next to each other as a contrast and compare, or do some dodgy photoshop to get an image that would probably be deleted. The possibilities are pointless endless. --Matfen 23:45, January 23, 2010 (UTC)

Formatting, etc.[edit source]

Thank you for the compliment on the Hathaway nom, the "less obvious jokes" (I'm serious, thanks). On the formatting, I work on a laptop, and maybe that's the problem. I'll look at it on a larger screen. Thanks for the read, Aleister in Chains 24 Jan MMX

Fixed it, at least on the screen I'm at. Had to change the size of the pics and the captions to make it fit, but I think it works now (I like big pics, so to me they're small, personal taste). Check out the tiny reference at the bottom of "White Lace and Promises". Thanks again, Aleister in Chains Ruby Tuesday, MMX
Fair enough. You seem to have put a lot of effort in, and material-wise I don't see how the article could be any better. I'll be generous and give it a for. --Matfen 22:57, January 24, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, appreciated. I'm glad you pointed out the format problems on a larger screen than I usually use. As for effort, I've enjoyed playing with uncy after the restrictive format at wikipedia, it's a break to create pretty much unfettered. Al iC.

Thanks![edit source]
