Re: I want to talk about my Chrome Edit of irefox[edit source]
Hi
Thanks for correcting me out. Actually I just didn't realized those errors. No need to say sorry, I dont't mind my errors being pointed out, I just wanted to know so that i could improve. Dont worry, you haven't discouraged me in any way. --Hitesh 18:18, 16 October 2008 (UTC) |t~^_^~c 17:36, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Considering username change[edit source]
This section may be obsolete
I am considering a username change per the discussion on my Wikipedia user talk page. As stated there, I still need to decide on a new username, but as soon as I do I will update this page with my decision. Please explain to me what I need to do to get my username changed; my quick and dirty searching didn't seem to help.
- Said Wikipedia user talk page has probably been deleted, and I'm too lazy to check. See User:Pentium5dot1#Introduction for a further explanation. I obviously no longer want to change my username. --Pentium5dot1 (semi-retired) t~^_^~c 00:32, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Impolite link to your user page[edit source]
First, it's a link to User:127.0.0.1, which is, I believe, not your user page. Click it and see.
Second, what makes you think that the reason for that link had anything to do with you user page being poorly formatted? Did I make any indication of such a thing anywhere? I don't see anything particularly ugly or otherwise shameful about your user page or its formatting, although you might want to take a little more pride in being blocked by Wikipedia for such a silly reason. (P.S., I don't think anyone here is going to be bothered by your name having a trademarked word in it. I can understand perfectly that if you change it at Wikipedia you may want to change it here as well, but I'm pretty sure you don't have to unless you want to.)
Third, have you heard of Template:USERNAME? Did you read the submit comment? What user is logged on from 127.0.0.1 right now?
You don't have to respond on my talk page; just do so here and I'll see it. Check out the watchlist feature (click "my watchlist" up top); it's very handy. -- !!! ??? 02:07, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- In response to each of your points individually:
- I failed to actually check the target of the link. However, I feel that it's impolite either way.
- Your edit summary mentioned Template:USERNAME, which I failed to examine before posting the comment. Since I was trying to fix my userbox to align to the right, I assumed you were talking about a formatting issue.
- Oh, okay, you used Template:USERNAME in the link. May I modify the link just a little bit? I do have enough basic computer knowledge to know that 127.0.0.1 means localhost.
Thank you for your understanding. Pentium5dot1 02:14, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- OK, it sounds like you got it now. What modification do you want to make? (You know, you can feel free to make any modification you want, of course. If it's not funny, I'll change it back, we'll get into an edit war, and we'll both get banned for six months, but otherwise, you can do what you want.) -- !!! ??? 02:28, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- The modification is already in place, but as the source comment says, I would like some help making it funnier. Pentium5dot1 02:32, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- I think it's much less funny this way. Maybe if we remove it from See Also completely, and instead change the caption on the ping image to "OH MY GOODNESS! HE ALREADY HAS YOU!<br>(screenshot from {{USERNAME}}'s computer)"? What do you think? -- !!! ??? 03:22, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- Approved. Sorry I didn't try hard enough; I seriously considered reverting my own change once I realized it was of poor quality (but I was temporarily busy). Pentium5dot1 06:09, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

For formatting the Microsoft support colors, I was trying to figure out how to fix it...:) ~ 18:59, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- You're welcome. (It was just a matter of an HTML hex color code.) The new blue might be too dark for some people on older CRT monitors to see that it's blue, though; is that okay? Pentium5dot1 05:58, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Firefox banner ad crashes IE[edit source]
I just read the discussion page for my image and find this hilarious. What's more, I made it in Microsoft GIF Animator.
However, it wasn't intentional. Do you know why Microsoft GIF Animator would cause this? SteveSims 17:06, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry if the discussion pages did not make clear that I already fixed the problems by reverting the image to an earlier version. The problem was that the image had one of the famous IE-crashing JavaScript code examples embedded at the end of the data, as detected by the Firekeeper extension for Firefox. I did not mean to imply that the image would actually have crashed IE, as I did not test that. Pentium5dot1 18:13, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- Today I tested one of the older versions with IE 7 and it crashes. Also, to be fair, the GIF animator was used on Ubuntu 7.04 with Wine 0.3.9. SteveSims 07:18, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- Would you like more information, such as a hex dump of the offending version? Anyway, the reason I reverted the image was that I didn't want to be too unfair to IE users. Pentium5dot1 18:00, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
re: Please explain edit of Spanish[edit source]
I restored it to the original because it does have humor, which was judged to be unanimous amongst three other friends who looked at it. I have not made any other edits and I don't edit anonymously, so if someone else restored it as well it's probably because they share the view of myself and said unanimous group. FYI...[edit source]
...Carling is a popular beer substitute here in the UK. It retails at around £2.50 for four cans and tastes very much like urine. They have an ongoing series of adverts which follow a "If Carling made X, it'd be the best X in the world" formula that wasn't particularly funny when they first came up with the idea back in, hmm - let's see - about 1645 and has grown progressively more stale since. Anyway, just thought you'd like to know. Keep up the good work in our eternal battle for correct spelling! :-) RabbiTechno 18:16, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- The user who made that edit was not logged in, so I did not assume good faith to the extent I should have. Was that you? --Pentium5dot1|t~^_^~c 18:27, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- 'Twas not, and assuming bad faith is precisely what any of us would have done. Just thought I'd share the info, and take the chance to attack the beer I like least in this world. Assume good faith in the case of my previous comment, meanwhile, it was intended as such. :-) RabbiTechno 18:34, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

- Thank you, and sorry for not being more proactive about contacting you, but I wrote an HTML comment (silly me) when I commented on the VFD, saying that it should go under User:Pentium5dot1/Storage facility/Template:Funny. See User:Pentium5dot1/Storage facility for a more thorough explanation. I know this userfication convention of mine is highly nonstandard, and I forgive you for getting it wrong. Should I move it myself or wait for you to do so? Sorry for inconveniencing you. --Pentium5dot1 (semi-retired) t~^_^~c 07:36, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Uncyclopedia:Requested Articles[edit source]
I've been talking with User:The Woodburninator on my talk page about improvements to Uncyclopedia:Requested Articles and I was wondering if you had any suggestions? MadMax 18:37, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- I basically agree with the reorganization; however, I would like to mention that you should probably use real level 4 headings (==== ... ====) for the finest subtopic divisions, in order to make things easier to edit. Note that in the future I will be quite busy with schoolwork, so I can't be expected to do a lot of useful work for UN:REQ on a regular basis. --Pentium5dot1 (semi-retired) t~^_^~c 02:12, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- Also, I am working on modifying the {{search}} template to use the urlencode magic word instead of requiring the editor to add plus signs between words. This should allow us to add a "what links here" function to the template, since the parameter won't have already been mangled, but I might need help from a bot to remove the plus signs from all the parameters when I'm done. --Pentium5dot1 (semi-retired) t~^_^~c 02:22, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
That's sounds great. Do you think the youtube search option should be switched with google video? I think its a lot more efficient myself. I switched to the level 4 headers by the way and I've trimed the list down a bit too. MadMax 00:27, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree with using a Google Video search. Now we have the issue that the level 4 heading font is not much smaller than the lv3 heading font - but the section edit links are worth it, right? --Pentium5dot1 (semi-retired) t~^_^~c 00:30, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Your right, it's a lot easier to edit the page now! I'm hoping to get UN:REQ on the navigation/communitity sidebars so the page will get a little more exposure. User:The Woodburninator thinks that's one of the main problems with the page. MadMax 01:01, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
I've nominated a new award for UN:REQ at Uncyclopedia:Vote for awards, decorations and honours and I was wondering if you had any suggestions (i.e. pictures, layout) ? Also I'm curious would it be possible for a template to display (preferably the top 20) results from Special:Wantedpages ? MadMax 17:55, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry I can't think of any suggestions on that at the moment, but I have a question about this edit. I seem to remember a friend mentioning that "Telephone Sanitation Riots" is a plot element from a book in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, but I'm not too clear on the situation myself. I will report back to you if I find out any more info. How might we be able to work this in?
- Also, I know that {{Special:Recentchanges/number}} can be used to transclude a list of the number most recent changes to the entire wiki, but I still need to test this with other special pages. --Pentium5dot1 (semi-retired) t~^_^~c 01:54, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
That does sound familiar but I haven't read it in the longest time. Now that you mention it, I did like the idea of a Medieval-era telemarketing scandal myself (ex. Henry VIII and mail order brides). 1427 was also the year the first Gypsies visited Paris and the Azores was discovered (so its not exactly like there's nothing to work with).
It'd be great if we could get a working Specialpages template. I'd suggest asking one of the older editors who deal with the technical side of things (User:Algorithm, User:Sannse, etc.) but sadly I don't anyone whose still active. MadMax 15:43, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Sun Bee and Neanderthals[edit source]
In regard to your changing Homo neanderthalis to Homo neanderthalensis in the currently featured article Sun Bee (am I bragging or what?), you are technically correct. I thought briefly about using the true name, but found it seemed awkward in the article (I still have trouble pronouncing it). I even briefly considered using Homo neanderthalanus, but rejected that too. I reverted your edits for humour's sake. But thanks for the thought! King of the Internet Alden Loveshade??? (royal court) 04:00, October 21, 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, sorry for not discussing it on any talk page first. But there was also one capitalization error - the second part of a scientific name should be lowercase. Are you telling me not to touch that either? Should we put HTML comments (i.e. <!-- ... -->) into the wikitest in order to explain this to other editors? --Pentium5dot1 (semi-retired) t~^_^~c 04:03, October 21, 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think you needed to put it on a talk page--it was a small, sensible edit. Another editor pointed out a while back that the species name needed to be lower case--I knew that and missed it at first, and I thought all those were fixed. (Apparently we had fixed them, then when I restored part of what I'd removed, I accidentally put the error back in--thanks for pointing that out--I just fixed it). I suppose the HTML message would be a good idea, but I decided on that very early when the article was just a bunch of rough notes and wasn't worried about fixes then. After that I forgot about it. And again, ordinarily I would be thanking you for your fixes. You had no way of knowing I done did it wrong on a purpose. King of the Internet Alden Loveshade??? (royal court) 04:17, October 21, 2009 (UTC)
- I just added an HTML message to the article per your suggestion--thanks! King of the Internet Alden Loveshade??? (royal court) 04:25, October 21, 2009 (UTC)
DDR[edit source]
Hi. I'm not an admin and I don't have a dog in this fight, though I voted against DDR and we discussed it briefly on the VFD page. Anyway, it doesn't surprise me that the admin who deleted DDR didn't read what you asked to be done with it. It can be gotten back and an admin can do it; surely pointing to the fact that you asked that this be done will be persuasive.
I am often on VFD looking for pages I can salvage. When it looks as though one is losing the election, I go into Edit, select the entire text (Windows: Ctrl-A) and copy it to the Paste Area on my local machine (Alt-E C). Then I create the same document inside User:SPIKE and paste in the text of the document in Mainspace before they kill it. Voila, a private copy (though it doesn't preserve the prior change history, which will be preserved if you succeed in getting a copy through an admin). Spıke ¬ 19:02 22-Dec-09
- I have now dealt with this properly at User talk:Under user#Re: DDR. I asked for the history to be preserved so that a transwiki to Illogicopedia can be considered. That's why I did not userfy the article myself earlier on. --Pentium5dot1 (semi-retired) t~^_^~c 19:03, December 22, 2009 (UTC)
Idea for UN:REQ?[edit source]
Do you think it might be worth starting an official monthly award for editors to contribute a requested article? I was thinking something along the lines of offering a "bounty" for articles which been on the list for a year or more or simply an article on a basic topic (e.g. Kissing). It would be great if someone at RadicalX's Corner could help in making a special award. MadMax 06:47, January 3, 2010 (UTC)
- I think it could be worthwhile, but I really am not sure that I am the best person to ask about such things. My edits to UN:REQ are mainly just maintenance and a few requests of my own; I'm not really that good at creating original satire and hence contributing in a truly useful way. --Pentium5dot1 (semi-retired) t~^_^~c 19:00, January 3, 2010 (UTC)
Wow that sounds familiar. :) Actually I was thinking in terms of organizing such a contest rather than actually participating in it. It would be great if people submitted multiple entries, and those in charge would "vote" on the best one (e.g. PLS), but I'd settle for someone writing even one entry. If you have any ideas or suggestions , I'd definatly appreciate it. I'll go bother another admin and see about how to get this started. Thanks again. MadMax 02:22, January 4, 2010 (UTC)
- Re "Actually I was thinking in terms of organizing such a contest rather than actually participating in it", I understood just fine what you were asking me about; I was just trying to say that I am not as skilled an Uncyclopedian as I might look, and I would be qualified neither to participate nor to do the majority of work in setting such a contest up. --Pentium5dot1 (semi-retired) t~^_^~c 05:26, January 4, 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, I guess I misread the last line in your reply. Since you make a lot of contributions to UN:REQ, I thought you might want to have some imput in such a project. I like your UN:REQ explanations page by the way. Are you planning on moving it to UN:REQ when it's finished? I've created one or two UN:REQ subpages myself. MadMax 12:36, January 7, 2010 (UTC)
- I will probably be putting only the "Navigation links" section of that page somewhere on UN:REQ, unless you insist that the entire content needs to go in the Uncyclopedia namespace. --Pentium5dot1 (semi-retired) t~^_^~c 18:19, January 7, 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, here's my current plan: All those explanation pages will eventually be subpages of Uncyclopedia:Requested Articles/More info. That top-level page will list all explanation subpages sorted in some reasonable order, much as User:Pentium5dot1/UN:REQ explanations does now. The particular subpages e.g. User:Pentium5dot1/UN:REQ explanations/Prefix: Pocky will eventually be moved to Uncyclopedia:Requested Articles/More info/Prefix: Pocky. --Pentium5dot1 (semi-retired) t~^_^~c 20:42, January 8, 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good. I've been meaning to ask you about the completed requests tagged with rewrite/expansion. When I was talking to Mordillo, he mentioned UN:CW and I thought maybe we could move these requests to a sort of "watch list" subpage and possibly submit them to CW. If the articles get deleted in the meantime, they can always be moved back to the main page. What do you think? MadMax 22:57, January 18, 2010 (UTC)
- I have no objections, but then again I haven't thought about it in that much detail. --Pentium5dot1 (semi-retired) t~^_^~c 02:51, January 19, 2010 (UTC)
Vulcan[edit source]
--Except that there isn't such an article, so I thought I would code around the use of {{Main}} to insert an extra word. It is a bit of editorializing, imitating the style of Uncyclopedia, that what follows is a typical Star Trek plot shortcut. I don't understand from the change summary what your complaint is. Spıke ¬ 16:59 25-Oct-10
PS--Missing piece of the story: When I was writing the UnNews style guide, I was advised that deliberate red-links there are a tradition, either to trumpet the lack of an article or to actually put out feelers for one to be written. However, a simple red-link looks like an error, hence my coding. Spıke ¬ 17:16 25-Oct-10
- Sorry. I didn't know that you had intended this. Given that UN:REQ exists, I feel that it is bad form to "request" articles via intentional redlinks in such a blatant manner.
This is the compromise I came up with.EDIT: Okay, fine, I goofed. - To what extent does a style guide written for UnNews apply to the main namespace? --Pentium5dot1 (semi-retired) t~^_^~c 17:54, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
Sorry I ignored that question. I don't believe it applies to mainspace at all, and mentioned it not to justify my decision but merely to explain it. Spıke ¬ 20:09 25-Oct-10

Requested Article[edit source]
I'd love an article about the Black Sea: Although I could write about it, but then I'd probably suck. Of course, I do have some useful information that I believe that could be utilized more humourously by others: The Black Sea was named Pontos Euxeinos/Ποντος Ευξεινος (Sorry, I suck as using Greek accent marks, and Mimo&Maxus may fix the accent marks up for me) meaning the Welcoming Sea (to the Foreigners). Also, it was the kingdom of Pontos that actually went around conquering the eastern shores, and Ovid was exiled to the eastern shores of the Black Sea. After the classical period, Black Sea was looked as an strategic point for several reasons: It was the other end of the sea trade route that was controlled by Byzantion/Constantinopolis and for the Russians, it was the major sea route that was seized from the Turks by Pyotr the Great when he took the Turkish fort of Azov assisted by the navy he created for the purpose. Of course, this ignores the more obvious (and probably boring joke) about the Sea being black... Romaioktonos 03:50, January 26, 2011 (UTC)
- I'm only good at making (and explaining) requests, not at actually writing the articles. Also, I'll be quite busy with schoolwork for a little while. Maybe you want to write out your request on Uncyclopedia:Requested Articles? --Pentium5dot1 (semi-retired) t~^_^~c 06:15, January 26, 2011 (UTC)
Etiquette[edit source]
Got curious and followed your discussion with Bevanz and thought you might consider the reactions of a neutral party:
- Bevanz's initial disagreement with you seems not to be a problem with your "etiquette" but only a disagreement over how truthful a user page is required to be.
- As Tyciol (not necessarily the same as Wikipedia:Tyciol, but he does point to him) is really banned from Wikipedia:
- Possibilities are that he wants to advertise that fact, that he would prefer not to advertise that fact, or that he doesn't care.
- I would find it remarkable if you offered to edit my user page, even if it contained inaccuracies, but would be happy to have them called to my attention.
- Tyciol has been away for a month, but his Contributions suggest that that is typical. You might not get a response from him soon.
I have no right answers for you, just these observations. Spıke ¬ 00:06 3-Feb-11
