- The colour scheme is nice but the new layout is horrible. It has the same awful separation of the page/discussion tabs on the left and editing etc. links on the right as wikia's skin has. Which is interesting, because I read this (on the internet, so obviously it's true):
“ | The Usability Initiative was made possible by a grant from the Ruth & Frank Stanton Fund. Guess what was one of the first things on which the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) expended that grant money? Office space for the new code developers that would be hired! Well, WMF founder Jimmy Wales' privately-held corporation, Wikia, Inc., has been hitting quite a few potholes lately (laying off staff, shutting down the failed "Wikia Search" debacle, etc..). So, when they heard that the WMF (on whose Board of Trustees, Wales also sits) would be hiring code developers that the WMF headquarters on Stillman Street didn't have space for, Wikia presented a sub-lease bid to the WMF. It wasn't the lowest bid, not by a long-shot. But, the WMF really, really, really, really wanted to get some of that tax-advantaged Stanton cash into Jimbo's pocket somehow, so they ASKED WIKIA IF THEY MIGHT KINDLY RE-BID, so that their price might at least be in line with the average of all bids received. Since Wikia is apparently in such dire financial straits, and they had all that office space sitting around, since they recently laid off a significant portion of their paid workforce, Wikia capitulated and lowered their price a bit. Heck, it was still free money, right? | ” |
- To be fair, the "significant portion" is like 3 or 4 people, but is interesting stuff, and something you'd completely expect for Jimbo.
- Anyway, as is standard, we'll probably have to copy whatever they come up with and then launch it the day before they do, then claim they copied us. Simple. Though I'm unsure if wikia would ever get round to installing a new skin that isn't their one. Perhaps they would be up for it, because with the way things are spaced on the new skin, there's plenty space for adverts at the very top and centre. • Spang • ☃ • talk • 22:55, 09 Aug 2009
- I really don't get why wikipedia/wikia think that moving the discussion tab away from the edit tab makes the page format somehow more accessible. But yeah, I guess we'll have to switch our skin, right? - T.L.B. WotM, UotM, FPrize, AotM, ANotM, PLS, UN:HS, GUN 23:35, Aug 9
- Let's just leave things how they are. See, Wikipedia's being stupid and fixing what isn't broken, whereas we're really the smart ones. Yeah. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 23:51, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
- We could even say we sued them for exclusive rights to this layout. Unsolicited conversation Extravagant beauty PEEING 00:53, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- For; following their lead, but I'm against it if I loose any sort of functionality that I currently have what-so-ever (that includes my delete-menu-drop-down). -- The Zombiebaron 03:41, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- You should be able to change the skin back to the one we have now, but I'm not sure if the tabs would be restored just as they are afterwards. Unsolicited conversation Extravagant beauty PEEING 03:50, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- Or I could just get whoever the current resident javascriptmonkey is to code me up another one for the new skin. But whatever. I'm just saying. -- The Zombiebaron 05:27, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

- This new format isn't so bad. It's different, but not that bad. The accessibility seems only a minor issue. Since we are a parody of them, it's only appropriate to change our format (if Wikia lets us). But wait, are they going to leave this new format optional (like Yahoo; they could just keep the older format as well)? NEED MOAR SAUCE. --EMC [TALK] 21:39, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Bah, screw em. Since when do we care about what Wikipedia does? What? Since the beginning? Oh, then change with them, I guess. (This is even uglier than the LAST change...)--<<>> 11:55, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Let's go one step backwards!
It appears that Uncyclopedia is going backwards. We should have "Try Alpha" as a parody, with the beta page looking like an early version of Wikipedia. In less than 10 years, we will have 40,000 articles, and the website would be a primitive version of Wikipedia (If Uncyclopedia is a country, then the conditions would resemble the Philippines. Remember, I can mock the Philippines, not you guys).
Oh, and I thought Wikipedia is a parody of us. EMC, don't you dare betray Sophia! 10:30, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- I already broke that rule you got there. See, I was a rough draft drawer for a map company, and someone told me they needed me to draw the Philippines. I said "A nice, final version?" and they told me "Nah, just a mock up." And that was the day I mocked the Philippines. Woody On Fire! Talking Woody Stalking Woody 14:30, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

If they have 'try beta', we could (though maybe not "should") be one step ahead with 'try VHS'? In any case, many Uncyclopedias already have the new vector skin available as it's part of the standard MediaWiki 1.16 package. For instance:
- before: http://desciclopedia.org/wiki/?useskin=monobook
- after: http://desciclopedia.org/wiki/?useskin=vector
Just keep it away from the 'bots... – Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.102.80.212 (talk • contribs)

We can't let Wikipedia look better than us, no one will realize we're a parody anymore.
P.S. We can't let Wikipedia look better than us, no one will realize we're a parody anymore.

- Firstly, if you didn't read it to the end, you wouldn't know it was the same sentence. Secondly, sentance. • Spang • ☃ • talk • 23:32, 16 Aug 2009
- Also, the "P" in "P.S." stands for "post". The "S" stands for "script". "P.S.S." makes no fucking sense. MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 20:41, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Actually...
I created an account just now to see what the beta looks like. It kinda looks like crap, but honestly, the editing thing is a lot easier, which I appreciate as a Wikia n00b. --—Mazaka (talk) 05:51, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
