Hi[edit source]

Saw your message on my talkpage. The thing is that there's lots of one-line articles all over uncyclopedia and I didn't find anything especially "new" on your page. However, you could make it longer and make it into an actual page covering facts about one-liners, in it's current shape it's pretty much QVFD-worthy. I've putten an ICU on your page, meaning you have a week of time to make it longer if you will to do so, if you don't want to edit it further, just tell me and I can delete your page. In my honest opinion such a short page isn't needed at the moment, we have a wide selection of pages like that. Thanks for (possibly) understanding. Cat the Colourful (Feed me!) Hi Every! Are you going to use this image for any comedic purpose? In my opinion, it's a shock image and the disturbance it may cause will outweigh the humour it may add to an article. But it's up to you! Anton (talk) 22:04, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

Don't mind Anton, he was diagnosed with "I'm uncyclopedia's moral compass" complex, sadly it also means he has no humor. I on the other hand have plenty of humor and I just loved that dead guy image, it's confronting yet subtle. If you can'tt find a way tto use that image don't worry, I will find a suitable use for it because that's how I roll. Cheers and keep up the good work. Madclaw @ talk 22:17, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

You're right about the page name correlation, so I said "also known as This Is Not a Dating Site", the fact that it flashes makes one think it's real adware, and it could be one of those flashy posters, but I don't know if they existed in the 40s.--EveryOtherUsernameWasTaken(get dtf) 14:09, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

UnDebate:Should women rap?[edit source]

Thank you for your comment! I appreciate your opinion, no matter whether you vote for or against the article. I see you proofread it, which means that you looked at it closely, but would it bother you, if I asked you to, please, throw another quick look? Concerning jokes, I thought I had enough of them, but I might be wrong. Every audience intervention is a joke as such, as well as most of the arguments both Margaret and her opponents use. Same goes with the introduction and the preamble. In any case, I am not asking you to reconsider your vote if you feel like you are sure about it, but I will be glad if you could help me to give some additional suggestions for improvement! Anton (talk) 13:25, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

I think there are lots of jokes in this on second thoughts, but many of them don't appeal to my sense of humour. I've just changed some of the preamble, which is important as it's one of the reader's first impressions, to slightly less closely resemble seriously-put points of view. I think that it would be premature to feature the article now. I feel as though an article dies and becomes history once it is featured, and this one should be improved upon before that happens.--EveryOtherUsernameWasTaken(get dtf) 14:34, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
That's an interesting point of view on featuring! Thanks for editing the beginning! I just undid the anarchist one, if you don't mind, because it went against the style, kind of, and I think that one was absurd enough (an anarchist talking about female rappers?!). Anton (talk) 16:22, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
I moved several parts from the beginning of the article to the end, as Peasewhizz said it started too slowly. Maybe this removes a part of your concerns about it as well? Anton (talk) 18:30, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Pulp Fiction Pee Review[edit source]

Yes I was looking at this earlier, but I don't think I could do it justice because I've only seen the film once and wasn't really a fan... a lot of the humour sort of relies on you having a great appreciation for it. I haven't heard of these theories about it but remember being pissed off that they were looking in that damn briefcase but I never got to see it. Maybe that's why I didn't like it.
Also, if you could, would you please pee review the article my hair? What I want is ideas for other directions of the article, and I want it to be relatable for everyone with a crop of hair, not just myself.--EveryOtherUsernameWasTaken(get dtf) 17:05, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Yeah you sent me this a bit ago... to be honest I don't have much of an opinion. I just looked into what it actually is, appears to be about some legend. I think the building's quite ugly, but I guess it's cool that it was made from special bricks. Are you planning on writing something about this? If so you should know that people outside of California (like me) will need to research before getting it.
Ideas for jokes: present the film as an extraordinary and unique piece of New Wave cinema, act as though the time the murder took place (the '20s?) is the dark ages or something, take the position that the legend is not only plausible but real, while naively pointing out all of its flaws. Is this what you mean by opinion?--EveryOtherUsernameWasTaken(get dtf) 23:10, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

A letter[edit source]

Thanks for your comments! They made me re-read what I thought didn't need anymore editing and spot a problem with the style, which does indeed make this teenage-written letter sound unnatural. There's a factor you might not have taken into account, which is that the narrator himself admits having read plenty of romantic literature. Therefore, the fancy phrases. And permit me, but I find: "there is no sacrifice I won't do for you and thus, under the shimmering light of a sole functioning lamp in our old house, shivering because of the cold November wind, I am starting my memoirs." is a suitable beginning to a boy's impossible love story just in terms of clichés (like pathetic fallacy) and ridiculousness.

That was my defense. Now counter-thesis. I did everything I think was necessary in terms of restoring funny-sounding awkward phrases and putting them side by side with long-winded stuff like the above will make them work even better. But I see that the last rewrite, which you criticized, kept many key phrases from the original version... Do you think anything else needs to be done? Oh, and what would you propose in terms of font?

Sincerely, waiting for your answer, Anton (talk) 20:28, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

I think the voice should write in reasonably short sentences, and as is mainly the case currently, no contractions should be used to maximise the voice's innocence, gullibility and of course awkwardness. "I am really sorry but I have to quickly end this composition here, 'cause it's suddenly becomes so dark outside that I am afraid I won't find a path to the nearest metro station and if the lamp I am sitting under ceases to work, I'll find myself in the most ridiculous situation one could ever imagine." could maybe be split up like "I am really sorry but I have to end this letter here. It has suddenly become really dark outside and I am afraid I will not find a path to the nearest metro station and if the lamp I am sitting under stops working, I will find myself in a really ridiculous situation."
I don't see how the bit about romantic literature adds to the comedy, but if you look up "romantic best-sellers 2014" you will see that romantic literature means different things to different people. I do think it's important that he sounds what I would call "a little less posh" -- he says "whom" when most would say "that", you'll see above I changed "ceases to work" to "stops working" -- the direct and literal talk has an air of earnestness, which given off makes the odd attempt at pathetic fallacy funny. Both the use of contractions and colourful turns of phrase give the voice a wit, which makes his "impossible love story" seem insincere.
At first the font was a fairly large Bradley Hand ITC, which, accompanied by the broken pencil with caption "I don't write letters very often", made me laugh but your re-write had it changed to oblique normal type (Helvetica), which to me took away a lot of the fun. However, it may prove fruitful to look at other common (and ugly) script typefaces, such as Comic Sans. --EveryOtherUsernameWasTaken(get dtf) 11:46, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
P.S. I found this article just under a year ago when I was browsing through the category "Pages that look like the things they're about", so having read the the title the first thing I laughed at was the lettering and the statement "I don't write letters very often", as this was the first thing to paint the stereotype of the average American teen infatuated by a celebrity, which is why type is so important to me. You have to remember that the article begins with an "A" so will get the most traffic from people browsing through categories, therefore the article is expected to fit neatly into its categories. Another note on writing style: I suggest using lots of simple modifiers--"very good" sounds much more to character than "excellent". --EveryOtherUsernameWasTaken(get dtf) 11:57, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
OK, I see what your point is. Could you look at this link, please? It's comparing the revision you wrote your critique on and the final version (I changed the page today, after reading your comments). Thank you for such a long message! It made me aware of several things I didn't spot in that article before. The fancy wording does make it look insincere and I tried to edit out most of the unnecessary spins of phrases.
However, I do find the romantic dimension very important to this article. And by "romantic", I at the same time mean a specific literary movement born around 19th century and all the clichés we have about love in literature. One of the things I am trying to show is that the narrator was also influenced by books: he took a lot of ideas from them, but only the ideas that justified his claims to a great love. Despite the important relevance of this letter to Americans nowadays, which you showed, this article actually talks about a well-known and old phenomenon of a teenage boy's impossible love, which, as far as I know, was even detailed in ancient Greek literature, although I might be wrong, because I don't have any specific reference. So a purpose of several curly and unnatural sentences is also to show that the narrator isn't the first and won't be the last.
In any case, I hope I made something resembling a literary text and literature should always be open for interpretation, so if you permit, I will keep just the right amount of words that'll justify the literature idea. Still, thanks to what you said, I re-added the natural style to the rest of the text, re-inserted the original first phrase, but also added a special font, which I think resembles a letter style more than the last one! I hope you find that the article looks better now! Anton (talk) 14:52, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
P.S. I hadn't noticed that the pencil on the picture wasn't broken. It's fine now! Anton (talk) 17:11, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your edits! I don't know why you prefer Bradley to Colibri, however. For me, the latter looks as awkward but, at least, actually resembles handwriting when italicised. Also, one of the reasons Nikau voted against the last time was because of the font.

And you should understand that I really don't want to choose between different people's votes. I appreciate your feedback in the same way I appreciate Nikau's, so I'm trying to implement different things at the same time. Not because I'd like to please everyone, but because I agree that this page needs some wit, even if implicit, but it also needs to sound sincere. That was just to let you know. Right now, I feel like I've done everything that was needed to be done, but please, tell me how you feel about the article! And do you have a specific issue with Colibri? Anton (talk) 13:15, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

Calibri is not a script typeface, and when used in the article it doesn't give the impression that it was written by hand. I like Bradley because it's so ugly. There is a few other ugly script types worthy of exploration--for example Comic Sans--and I would prefer you use one of these non-italicised than a regular sans serif in italics, but ultimately I'm not going to start an edit war over it. --EveryOtherUsernameWasTaken(get dtf) 13:23, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
Oh, ok. I guess some people are against Bradley precisely because it's ugly. I have no opinion and just think that it's better with some specific font, and I know that for others a font they don't like may actually spoil the reading, so I think I'll keep it more neutral. In addition, in Letter to Santa, which looks like a letter, the font is Colibri... And just a question: do you still wish to abstain? Anton (talk) 14:10, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

I don't think it's so bad, in fact I laughed at one or two lines, both before and after listening to the song for the first time. Would making fun of this movie be a good idea for an article? I HATED this movie back in 1998.--Ketchup Boss has a openly gay crush on Bertie Wooster (talk) 01:07, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

I haven't seen it. But I would advise that you perhaps think more "philosophically" (whatever that means) to choosing your articles' content: you should start an article with one particular joke in mind (by which I mean a humourous concept as opposed to a one-liner) and sequence that out across the whole thing. It may be very short, but it's better than just saying "This film was made in 2004 by director him and produced by an anonymous studio. And it is awesome/crap/mediocre/look at me I have an opinion!". To avoid this sort of writing I think you should consider writing an article on a very basic subject for which a Wikipedia page would be no help at all and an IMDb page doesn't exist, in which you avoid pop culture references entirely (I realise that you like to make these but it is a common problem, with me, with most editors on Uncy, with just about all Hollywood parody writers, to make a reference but not really much of a joke, causing people who get the reference to laugh simply because it makes them feel clever). And because you aren't editing on the ominous other Uncy, you are free to write on something you've just made up, which can feel quite liberating. I had a lot of fun thinking about new directions in which to drive my almost entirely fictional Aliana y los Enanitos Grandes. So please consider these options. --EveryOtherUsernameWasTaken(get dtf) 17:35, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

Now I know what that song is! A great pop song.--Ketchup Boss has a openly gay crush on Bertie Wooster (talk) 00:08, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Not so much for me I'm afraid. A pleasant piano riff, but there's nothing else to the melody and it is ruined anyway by the cloying vocals. --EveryOtherUsernameWasTaken(get dtf) 00:52, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Do you think Nirvana are slightly overrated?--Ketchup Boss has a openly gay crush on Bertie Wooster (talk) 22:31, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

That sounds like the sort of thing I'd say. But I haven't listened to them in a while, so I'd best keep my opinions quiet. --EveryOtherUsernameWasTaken(get dtf) 22:52, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

I don't have the excellent music memory you think, plus I'm only 16, I just don't like to mention my age online. But I like this song quite a bit, so thanks for telling me about it. --EveryOtherUsernameWasTaken(get dtf) 23:25, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi Every! I moved this page to your userspace, so only you will be edit it during the competition time! Good luck! Anton (talk) 19:38, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

Okay sorry I may have screwed something up then. Sorry I didn't reply to your last question but for the purposes of anonymity I don't want to say. --EveryOtherUsernameWasTaken(get dtf) 03:27, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
No, it's fine, don't worry! It's my job (even though I don't get money for it) to make sure everything is right. Concerning the last question, that's why I added "if I may ask". Don't answer, if you feel uncomfrtable, and the reason I asked was that ... I am 16, too. Anton (talk) 17:10, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

Rembrandt[edit source]

I won't be writing a competing article on this subject on the other site but you can have the images I uploaded there for it. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 21:56, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

I saw that. I don't see why you can't, but I hope you write a good one on Raphael. With regards to Rembrandt I'm more interested in your comic ideas than images. --EveryOtherUsernameWasTaken(dtf?) 22:34, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
I had a read through. The article has a good structure with some decent jokes and is well illustrated. You discuss the self portraits and the ones that get left out in the rain. I would consider the 'commercialisation' of Rembrandt and that perhaps if he had cut his ear off too, well perhaps his pictures would be even more famous that Van Gogh's. That actually was one of my ideas for when I thought of writing about Rembrandt. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 22:21, 10 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the little review. One thing: what do you mean by "the ones that get left out in the rain"? --EveryOtherUsernameWasTaken(dtf?) 01:04, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
That was my misunderstanding as regards the degradation of the paintings. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 14:35, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

The link for it's broken, but I saw you post it elsewhere. All I remember was that there was some vintage effect the uploader had put on it and that he had ads for his channel all over it. --EveryOtherUsernameWasTaken(dtf?) 00:12, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

Spam month![edit source]

Hey Every. I've seen you getting involved with the joyous occasion of Spam Month but unfortunately you keep getting booted off. Just thought I would recommend HexChat as opposed to Webchat/KiwiIRC as that throttles whatever you feed through it so that you don't get flooded off and even when we're not spamming it's about a million times better anyway. Just connect it to freenode, set it up with your nick and such, type /join #uncyclopedia and you're all set. Let me know if you have any issues, otherwise hope to see you continue sharing in our annual festivities. :D -- Lost Labyrinth It's Britain bitch! (t)(c)(a) 13:08, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
