Meta Platforms, Inc.,[1][2] doing business as Meta[3] and previously known as Facebook, Inc.,[4] is a mass advertising, contract tracing,[5] IoT inventing, American global technology conglomerate based in Menlo Park. The company is the evil parent organization of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.[6]
In October 2021, Facebook was going through a hard court case and this was making people have a shit outlook on what Facebook had become, it wasn't until the media outlets reported that the parent company of Facebook planned to change its name to *cough cough* "reflect its focus on building the metaverse".[7][8] It was rebranded as Meta later that month on October 28.[9][10]
Following a period of strong scrutiny, damaging leak claims and possible conspiracy theories, news started to emerge on October 21, 2021, about Facebook's plan to rebrand the company to change its name and it's policy.[11][12] Based on Facebook's PR campaign, the name change reflects the company's long or short term plans of (Meta to change their facts and the users focus towards) building the metaverse, a digital extension of a projected physical world by social media, virtual reality and augmented reality features.[13]
