Approved movages?
Nerd42 (talk) – contribs (new • del) • edit-count • block (rem • list) • all logs • groups • checkuser seems tobe moving pages around. Is this approved or not?--Sir Flammable KUN 21:07, 22 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Page moving is OK if it's necessary to improve the aricle; I've even moved pages myself before (Air Bag --> Airbag, Every Child Left Behind Legislation --> Every Child Left Behind Act, BS --> Bullshit, etc). Some of Nerd's movages seem to be for that reason (i.e. H2G2 --> H²G²). However I don't think most of Nerd42's page movements are warranted. They're more like editorial statements, like moving Republican to Republicrat. And moving Democommunist Party to Demacommunist Party? Now that's just silly. I vote the political articles get moved back unless there's a good reason to keep them that way. --Jordanus 00:30, 24 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- PS: I just realized that Democommunist Party was originally just plain-old Democratic Party. That's a pretty bold statement. Does anyone care? Are the humor values of these movages high enough to balance the political insultation factors? Hold on while I get my Comedy Calculator... --Jordanus 00:30, 24 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Undoinate, also, his double redirects make Giant Jesus masturbate. --Splaka 22:24, 22 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- I've had to ban him for 3 days for reverting a revert on Chrono Trigger. Please amend my judgement if it's considered a tad brutal. However, I've done this because I am wary of the tone of Nerd42's edits. They lean towards censorship. For example, look at Image talk:Sin sucka.jpg. Though in their defense, there is Talk:Chrono_Trigger, but the edit history on Chromo Trigger (http://en.uncyclopedia.co/w/index.php?title=Chrono_Trigger&action=history) suggests a prudish mind at work. --IMBJR 19:37, 23 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Excessive. 24 hours, not three days for this kind of thing. Vandalism is like 7 days. Warning first before ban. --Chronarion 20:25, 23 Sep 2005 (UTC)
I hadn't seen this thread before I unblocked Nerd42. It seemed very unfair for IMBJR to be blocking him when he was the one in the edit dispute, especially since the issue had not been discussed on the Chrono Trigger talk page. This seems to me like a difference of opinion in whether the edit is funny, and not a case of vandalism. I don't know about the page moves, but perhaps someone could explain to Nerd42 that he shouldn't do it rather than just blocking him? Don't bite the newbies. :) Angela 20:42, 23 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- I think I misjudged that one. Sorry. --IMBJR 20:47, 23 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Hadn't seen this conversation b4. You know, I think I have a different kind of humor than many people on the Interweb. I thought it'd be funny at the time to rename the Republican party as the Republicrat party and the Demacrat party as the Demacommunist party at the same time and then kinda have both of them be like in some kind of intergalactic war like Jedi and Sith but never actually managed to implement the idea ... but anyways I've kind of changed my mind about alot of stuff and now I think that overly political humor on uncyclopedia is Satan incarnate. See Template:Liberal that I created and the other one I'm merely in support of: Template:Conservative. Yeah, bias is becoming a substitute for humor more and mroe around here, and from now on I want to try to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.
There is a neutral point of view even in humor, which can exist even within opinion, and that is "Make fun, not debate." An uncyclopedia article should not be written to change anyone's mind about anything at all ever, and being offensive to other people's religions is not a substitute for making fun of religious figures. The Jesus series is a good example of what I'm talking about. Really, there only needs to be one Jesus page, just like there's one Oscar Wilde page, and one God page, don't you think? --Nerd42 02:21, 24 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Editing Problems
Is it just me (probably so)? Sometimes when I hit "Save Page", I get the same result as "Show Preview". Once that happens, "Save Page" never works until I start editing again from scratch. That's what I just now had to do to post this note. Wierd. I also may or may not be having problems with my brand-new sig template, but that's even more likely to be just me, or not (it seems to work now for no good reason). -- Sir BobBobBob ! S ? [rox!|sux!] 11:48, 20 Sep 2005 (EDT)
I'm having that problem too. I've stubbing and deleting pages and it's been problematic--Sir Flammable KUN 11:54, 20 Sep 2005 (EDT)
- I had this problem last night. Also it won't let me revert to the proper logo - I get a "cannot rename" error: Could not rename file "/home/wikicities/cities/uncyclopedia/images/b/bc/Wiki.png" to "/home/wikicities/cities/uncyclopedia/images/archive/b/bc/20050920163402!Wiki.png". Um, thanks, Mr. TMI. Anyway, I just made a sizable edit to Hurricane Katrina, breaking up the "In case of emergency" section into helpful subsections. My edit shows up in History, but not on the page (even after refreshing and even pulling the page up in Lynx). Meanwhile, I just noticed that there's a Report a problem link right there in the Navigation box... should I be whining there instead? - What's happening is that the Wikicities and/or Uncyclopedia MySQL database is OVERLOADED TO FUCK AND BACK, and one symptom of this is that when you hit "submit" it does a "preview" instead or else gives a message saying "I am a very unhappy database and have just shat myself." Suggestion re: n3kk1d photo
Maybe it's just me, but I'm finding the Cindy pic to have amazing hilarity potential. I've put it on Ayn Rand and Blasphemy and am going to put together a version for X Window System (with an xclock over the n*pples). Is my sense of humour on crack?
It occurs to me that we need a suitable sexy n3kk1d ch1xx0r image that doesn't actually show n*ppl*s that we could use as an Uncyclopedia injoke. Something that could go all sorts of places without that bloody Template:NSFWArticle blocking our line of vision - David Gerard 10:18, 20 Sep 2005 (EDT)
- even with certain parts blocked, images of that nature are still not really safe for work. i mean playboy or swimsuit issue, they can both get you fired at most places--Maj Sir Insertwackynamehere CUN VFH VFP Bur. CMInsertwackynamehere 10:48, 20 Sep 2005 (EDT)
I suggest removal since we don't have the rights to the photo, and it is not fair use. Should one of you be a girl, with no objections to photography, or can find one that fits the definition, you can go ahead and license a picture under CC. Unless you do so, I discourage using such a pic.--Chronarion 17:18, 20 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Sadly I am not a girl. But dammit, if Wikipedia can get a GFDLed picture of someone sucking their own goddamn cock (OH MY GOD YOU DON'T WANT TO CLICK THERE), is there something we can do? Would any image under a Free As In Stallman license be reusable here? If so, there's a zillion bikini girl pics available on Wikipedia and Wikipedia Commons ... - David Gerard 12:20, 21 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- No. Technically not, anyway. However, if it's GFDL or other distributable license, it's ALMOST OK; indicate it on the page if it is put in. In theory, it shouldn't be here, since this is for original material. Then again, i'm not a license nut, so just indicate what license it was when you put it in. --Chronarion 16:38, 21 Sep 2005 (EDT)
- Actually, it probably would be (under the "aggregation" clause of the GFDL and under pretty much any CC license). That's how come Wikimedia Commons accepts any Free As In Stallman license and those images can be included in GFDL Wikipedia pages without crossing the streams. I'll have a look around and see what takes my fancy for this enormously puerile planned in-joke - David Gerard 22:44, 21 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Yes, we also have another conflict with the BloodRayne nekkid Playboy pic, as that is copyrighted as well. In general, nekkid pics arent neccessary unless its, say, a nekkid picture of Oscar Wilde --Nytrospawn 23:09, 20 Sep 2005 (EDT)

UPDATE
- Here's a link to the mug in the store. http://www.cafepress.com/uncyc.29785548 I used the dry brushed image that Murphy posted. It turned out quite good, if I do say so myself. - Lookin' good! I can't think of any mug-related quotes, but I've always been partial to "A one-legged duck can only swim in circles." Also, will the URL be on the mug? Also also, where would the quote go - just along the bottom? --Rcmurphy KUN 02:39, 4 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- I was thinking that I'd put the image on the side, instead of the middle, and then put the quote in a block on the side. - The image is definitely too big. I think putting the image only on one side with text on the other would be perfect. It might even be worth while to put the website's URL under ye' old potato. As for what goes on the other side, an Oscar Wilde quote would be great, but how can I say no to "Vandalize [[Poland]]!", "Blank [[Poland]]!" or "Revert [[Poland]]!"? -- ERTW MUN 03:44, 4 Sep 2005 (UTC)

- While I don't think I'm brave enough to wear a "Homosexuals are pretty fucking gay!" shirt, I'd definitely go for one of these on a mug or shirt with the tater-puzzle logo on the other side:
- "Brunch is the meal you eat when you're too drunk to get up for breakfast." ~ Oscar Wilde
- "The common idea that success spoils people by making them vain, egotistic and self-complacent is erroneous; on the contrary it makes them intelligent, gorgeous, and humble. Like me." ~ Oscar Wilde
- "There are three kinds of lies: Lies, damned lies, and made-up Oscar Wilde quotes." ~ Oscar Wilde
- "Nostradamus wasn't fucking around." ~ Oscar Wilde
- "A one-legged duck can only swim in circles." ~ Oscar Wilde on Philosophy:Zen and the Art of Duck Meditation
- "Samurai are honorable warriors. Which means they're pussies compared to Ninjas." ~ Oscar Wilde
- "Why do I keep getting mail addressed to 'Willy Wonka'? What the hell? Does that have anything to do with the French? God, I hate those loathsome Frenchies." ~ Oscar Wilde
And life wouldn't be complete without one of my favorite quotes from this site:

Some very real questions
1. Who will finance this? 2. How to distribute and produce? Something like Cafe Express? 3. Who does the money go to? 4. Why not take this idea beyond just mugs and shirts, but stuff on paper? Uncyclozine, Printed On Recyclopedic Paper™? --stillwaters/Talk 02:15, 30 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- There's another discussion further down the page. Basically, with Cafe Press you can set the prices to adjust your profit - or keep things less costly by selling them at the Cafe Press base prices (which still ain't cheap). Supposedly it costs nothing to operate a basic Cafe Press shop, but PantsMacKenzie noted that a basic shop can only contain one of each type of item. A non-basic shop costs money to operate. As for the printed word...maybe we should think about putting together a book or something. There are free online publishers out there (like Cafe Press, they just take a cut of the profits; I've used Lulu to print a book before and I was quite happy with them) and at the moment we have about 55 featured articles and more than that number of nominated articles. I suppose the problem with that would be getting permission from the authors to use the material in a (sort of) commercial venture. --Rcmurphy KUN 03:24, 30 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- I had intended to get a feel for what people wanted and what the demand was, and afterwards, if demand was high enough, purchase a month of premium store at cafepress. It's only $6 for a month, and I can afford that. Profit from the store, if any, would go back into the store to buy more premium store time. Important image details
- Here's the deal: Mug images need to be almost 3 inches tall. The template for the mug is 3 inches by 8.31 inches. The large Potato puzzle image above makes a teeny image on the mug. It's somewhat amusing. Here's a link to my test mug: http://www.cafepress.com/uncyc.29785548

Test of high-res tater
Rcmurphy suggested I test this here and ask for critique: Image:Whatstaters.jpg. Rough draft form based on the official wikipedia logo (symbols removed and replaced with sillier ones, squashed, browned, and baked at 350 for 2 hours, until it resembles rc's). - Hmm, I think it looks too CG and not enough like an actual potato... --PantsMacKenzie 16:36, 1 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Ok, redid it a bit. #2 had too obvious of a 'cut out' shape. This one is also closer in color (the shading is not the same as RC's but the shading on the wiki logo overlay doesn't allow it to be moved). This one looks a bit more fake yet also detailed? I am unsure whether to make the black letters blurred or overlayed. Criticalize please. --Splaka Bur. SG CM © 00:54, 2 Sep 2005 (UTC)

That's a lot of fine work, you guys. Humorous results as well as good ones. I'm gonna try to poke my roommate into playing with it some more, maybe he can get the original to look good larger. After that, I'll make a decision as to which looks best on the mugs. Then I'll put my favorite up and people can tell me what they think. Thanks again! P.S. I've been busy this past week, with my girlfriend visiting, so I haven't had much time to devote to the unmerchandise. This will change, as my girlfriend has returned to her own college. --PantsMacKenzie 18:18, 3 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, for one last time (maybe) I messed about with the original logo. I ran it through Photoshop's dry brush filter, which cleared up the blurry edges. Of course it doesn't look the same as before when it's a big digital image, but if it's to be three inches high on a mug, I think it might look surprisingly similar to the original. I haven't gotten a chance to print it out to see what it looks like off the screen, though, and now that I look at it, the text might benefit from a bit of bolding. Here it be. --Rcmurphy KUN 00:10, 4 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Newtonian Physics
So, let's finally decide what to do with this article. Should we keep the current text, taken from timecube.com, or pick a "normal" version of the article that's constantly being reverted [1]? (Or expand Newtonian Physics/other?)
I propose making Newtonian Physics a "normal page" and instead applying Time Cube formatting, derived from "/other", to Quantum physics, which in its current form is now about quantum physics anyway. (The content would parody Time Cube, saying that "educated bastards" think Newtonian and are too stupid to accept quantum physics). - Guest 14:01, 18 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Personally, I'm not fond of the Time Cubeish versions. The current bit is rather bland tho. I guess I'd like to see Newtonian Physics constrained to apples only. Because, as we all know, nobody was ever able to prove that it worked with anything other than apples. Which is why Eienstien had to invent useful physics. The worst part about this is that I have a degree in...physics. I'm getting teeth yanked tomorrow, so I'll be on heavy meds for a day or two. I'll take a shot at it then. ;) -- 19:24, 18 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Image sizing
I've downloaded a jpg image onto uncyclopedia. See image: image:Mp-image2.jpg.
The basic image which seems to have been downloaded on uncyclopedia shows up on the screen as very tiny but it can be expanded by clicking on it to be the very large size image that was on my hard-drive which I downloaded onto uncyclopedia.
If I try to add the image to an article e.g. as [[image:Mp-image2.jpg|thumb|200px|Witty description of image], it comes out tiny but has the large area of blank space taking up the remaining 200 px. If I use "frame" (instead of "thumb"), it comes out as the very large size, too large for the article.
How can I code the image description into the article so that it comes out the standard 200 px size? Thanks.
--Arthur 22:48, 17 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- No matter how I look at it, it has big white spaces beneath and to the right of the image. I'd just copy the big version of the image, cut out and save only what you want, re-upload it and try it out again. --—rc (t) 22:57, 17 Sep 2005 (UTC)

HOWEVER, it looks fine at anything EXCEPT full size - I mean, like, make it one pixel less than its full width, and it looks clear as a bell, but put that one pixel back in and it looks like soup. Licensing concerns
Erik Möller (wikipedia:User:Eloquence) posted the following on the Commons mailing list:
- For quite a long time, I've been meaning to write a summary of the key reasons not to use "non-commercial uses only" licenses. It is now online at:
- I posted it to Kuro5hin as well, where it is now being discussed:
- The version on the wiki is slightly more comprehensive and will hopefully evolve over time.
- This is not specific to Wikimedia, but I hope that those Wikimedians lobbying individuals, governments, and educational or scientific institutions to put their content under truly free licenses or into the public domain will find this collection of arguments useful.
Should Uncyclopedia consider changing licenses? Or at least start encouraging dual-licensing? Alphax 02:11, 14 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Random interjection, I think Uncyclopedia hits the topic on the nose with Template:Fairuse (probably the only honest Wikia or Wikimedia hosted site, in copywrong respect) --Splaka 02:40, 14 Sep 2005 (UTC)
I don't see any use in the non-commercial bit in the first place. If somebody figures out how to make money off something they find on the Uncyclopedia, kudos to them, I say. --Spintherism 23:38, 14 Sep 2005 (UTC)
My original motivation for choosing the NC license was that so that nobody could make an uncyclopedia book, and sell it. In my point of view, that would be the exploitation of another site. Yes, it is difficult to get licensing for all users, but I want the option of a budding comedian to sell their work later on, something they might have published here, without degrading commercial value. It's free to dual license to us, but we certainly don't require it. Any other opinions on this is appreciated. I personally thought GFDL was too draconic, and incredibly difficult to understand in layman's terms. --Chronarion 14:21, 15 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, all share-alike licens...licenc... however you spell them - are draconic. Blah. See my talk page (click on sig). Alphax 11:25, 18 Sep 2005 (UTC)
yeah, share-alike is kinda draconic. But then I also use ND (even more draconic, hah) to go with it, so it's all relative. --stillwaters/Talk 17:22, 18 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Featured articles
Is there a reason why there is nothing in the featured article section?--Nytrospawn 16:06, 14 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Some rogue admin must have blanked the featured article template... --—rc (t) 16:10, 14 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Images For Deletion
Image for Deletion needs all pre-September unused images adding to it. Anyone got a magic wand? Note: some of the images are actually used. For example, Image:You01.jpg by Splaka is used in You, but Special:Unusedimages does not recognise that fact. --IMBJR 18:52, 13 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Well I managed to do it myself. Go nuts. --IMBJR 15:52, 14 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Here is some stuff, written by a vain, occasionally funny idiot.
Vain comment
I've noticed that hardly anybody ever edits my pages. Maybe that means that my pages are so good that nobody wants to ruin them. Or maybe it means nobody ever reads my pages. Nah...
Immature fill-in poem that doesn't rhyme

- I have a problem. Should I post here or on the Report a problem page? Oh, well, I guess I should post here. You see, I sent in my credit card number to the nice woman on the phone, and when I look online I see that it's already been charged for $19.99. Twice. Yet I don't have my password yet, so I can't get to the sweet new content. I hear there's boobies in it. And now my card has been charged again. For $60 I hope those boobies sure are nice. I'm kinda worried that this is a scam, since I don't get any preview when I click on the front page. Can anyone help me? When I subscribed to Wikipedia+++ I got access right away. But their boobies weren't very good. Is this wikipedia? --N00b-clue 22:36, 11 Sep 2005 (UTC)

I reverted the main page, but the logo still needs to be changed back. For future reference, does Wiki.png just have to be replaced (overwritten) with the .png of the normal logo, or is there more to it? --—rc (t) 05:33, 13 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Hmm, I just clicked that (rev) link thingy next to the version on 10:12, 1 Sep 2005 and it seems to have done did it (so I guess in the future, that is all that done needs didding, I always wondered what that thing was for). As an admin, you might wanna (del) the old versions so they can't be reverted back annoyingly (I guess? if that is what the (del) button is for). --Splaka 08:06, 13 Sep 2005 (UTC)
