Forum:Technical difficulties with MediaWiki updates in January 2011
... is that Wikia messages box and why the fuck can I no longer collapse a TOC? 14:20, January 25, 2011 (UTC)MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here
- And as Mordillo and Funnybony should have noticed, things aren't being put in the correct namespace on the forum or UnNews, either. Fuck you, Wikia. MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 14:25, January 25, 2011 (UTC)
- There has been a Mediawiki/DPL update by Wikia that seems to have an impact, as various stuff are not working at the moment. I've contacted Sannse and asked her to take a look. Can everyone list the issues they find down here so the Wikia people can take a look? So far I've seen -
- Broken DPL code (front page)
- Forum pages created in the wrong space
- TOC non collapsible ~ 14:31, January 25, 2011 (UTC)
- Navigation tables, too. ~ 03:52, 26 January 2011
- UnNews pages created in the wrong space ~ 14:34, January 25, 2011 (UTC)
- There's also broke DPL on the UnNews front page and UnNews pages aren't being created in the UnNews space. I'll keep my eye out for anything else. MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 14:36, January 25, 2011 (UTC)
- Problem with the input box extension in general - doesn't... er, work? ~ 16:18, 25 January 2011
- The search thing also does not work when hitting enter with it, at least on this browser - and that was a 1.17 bug last I checked, so... er... what? ~ 16:18, 25 January 2011
- Using the wrong system messages - for instance instead of calling MediaWiki:Youhavenewmessages with its MediaWiki:Newmessageslink and MediaWiki:Newmessagesdifflink, which were actually kind of useful, it calls the MediaWiki:Youhavenewmessagesmulti when a talkpage gets an edit...
- Page titles coming out the same when editing them or otherwise, as if the {{title}} template was being used... ~ 16:25, 25 January 2011
- The recent changes lettering and spacing is different, and not for the better. I haven't checked lately but when I logged on the feature articles were bleeding code way down the page. Clocktuckers hopefully are still at work cleaning up their mess while hopefully adding some good stuff, somwhere? Aleister 14:30 25-1-'11
Welcome to Wikimedia 1.16 - please direct all complaints to the Wikimedia Foundation, or Spang.
DPL has changed somewhat in this version, see the MediaWiki site for details. There may also be tweaks needed in the CSS and JS for the wiki, that's where the blaming Spang bit comes in.
I'll ask someone more techy than me to come in and see how they can help with the tweaks - be nice to him, or Auntie sannse will rip your particulars off. This has been a message from your friendly (and possibly a bit coffee deprived) Wikia representative. -- sannse (talk) 17:25, January 25, 2011 (UTC)
- Oh also, a reminder: updates about this sort of thing are on the Wikia staff blog. I know you lot are allergic to such places (or, if you have the letters c, e, and m in your name I end up having to ban you from them) but it really is the best way to know what's happening. -- sannse (talk) 17:28, January 25, 2011 (UTC)
- But they're not even 1.16 bugs... *narrows eyes suspiciously* ~ 17:30, 25 January 2011
- Some of them are... but I've also just realized that 1.16 probably has vanilla monobook instead of uncyclopedia skin - which would explain more of them... lookin in to it -- sannse (talk) 17:33, January 25, 2011 (UTC)
- Some of them aren't, though... and what about the thing where the search thing on the sidebar doesn't autosuggest here? Something about the API not working, or some such, since it doesn't work with HotCat, either... but it works on other Wikia ones... (this isn't something new, mind... for that matter, how many of these aren't new, anyway, but just manifesting differently?) ~ 17:41, 25 January 2011

- Hey all, I'm the one Sannse has asked to look into the issue. I agree with Sannse's belief that you have been accidentally switched to Monobook. I suspect fixing that will not revert all of the issues you listed above, Lyrithya, but I'm hesitant to look in depth at each thing until we figure out which ones are Monobook-specific. --DaNASCAT 18:47, January 25, 2011 (UTC) <staff />
- Well, Special:Preferences is saying "\nThe database is currently locked. Our main datacenter is down, you are accessing our backup datacenter. We are working to fix the problem" so I haven't been able to check if the skin switched on us. MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 18:50, January 25, 2011 (UTC)

Morning after!
The broken DPL issue seems to be fixed. Does anyone still sees DPL issues anywhere? How about the other problems? ~ 08:12, January 26, 2011 (UTC)
- The new message box is worded slightly differently. --Black Flamingo 10:01, January 26, 2011 (UTC)
- The horror!
- The search box still doesn't work with pressing enter. ~ 17:32, 26 January 2011
- Mine does. --Black Flamingo 17:38, January 26, 2011 (UTC)
- Then it's a browser thing... should still fix it if they've any decency. But next you'll be telling me the fact that the search autocomplete thing doesn't work, either, is a browser thing... ~ 17:45, 26 January 2011
- And the inputbox extension, the prefixes still don't work. ~ 17:46, 26 January 2011
- Also, the featuring system is completely borked and I think that all gadgets except for WikiEd don't work either. Who here is a DPL genius? ~ 17:54, January 26, 2011 (UTC)
- I'm rubbish with DPL, but I can tell you that at least some of the javascript (for gadgets and whatnot) has been messed up by the titles of some system pages being changed from their mediawiki defaults.
- On the plus side, the search thing's working properly for me again... that, or downgrading my web browser fixed it. At least they are cleaning up after themselves, though, and the update did fix plenty of other things... ~ 20:57, 26 January 2011

- All right guys, done some more tweaking. Please list your remaining technical/non-mental issues below. Give me your browser too please. Thanks. --DaNASCAT 03:09, January 27, 2011 (UTC) <staff />
- The inputbox extension still doesn't work - it ignores the prefix thing, so it's kind of a problematic issue. (Try making a new forum topic or VFH entry or something and you'll see what I mean)
- I will look in to this and file a report. --DaNASCAT 20:59, January 27, 2011 (UTC) <staff />
- I'm sure there are other things, too, but I'm too busy breaking stuff right now to put much thought into it. ~ 03:20, 27 January 2011

- I don't know why, but large portions of my .JS stopped working in Chrome. This may be an old-sh issue but, hey, you asked. --
- A lot of elements, esp. MW message names, changed in 1.16. Go through and see what's not working and make appropriate changes. --DaNASCAT 20:59, January 27, 2011 (UTC) <staff />
- And if they didn't change because you lot changed them yourselves when updating to 1.16, then why are Wikia wikis the only ones using those names, regardless of version? ~ 23:10, 27 January 2011
- Also my back hurts. -- 05:35, January 27, 2011 (UTC)

- Oh, and pretty much all the javascript except for some that does still work doesn't work on pages after purging them or when performing diffs and whatnot.
- And some guy just came on IRC finding he was blocked. Except the IP it says is blocked is an internal one, and not the guy's actual one. Wikia, mixing up itself with editors, eh? ~ 05:46, 27 January 2011

- Mis-communication with blocking an IP this morning. That is fixed. --DaNASCAT 20:59, January 27, 2011 (UTC) <staff />
- Mordillo, sorry, I just saw that (my watchlists have had issues being delivered). If it's every that bad again, write on my talk page requesting I get on IRC as that's probably the most expeditious way. --DaNASCAT 04:11, February 2, 2011 (UTC)
I found another one. The 'Enable similar articles suggestions' thing seems to be ignoring whether or not it's selected in preferences - I have it off according to my preferences, but it still shows up sometimes. ~ 02:01, 28 January 2011
- And there is still a DPL issue on the front page in the Featured today, long long ago section reading, "Extension:DynamicPageList (DPL), version 1.8.9 : WARNING: No results." It still gives the results, though, which is puzzling. MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 02:27, January 28, 2011 (UTC)
- I saw this also and I don't even know what DPL is. I not a cpu programer. DJ Mixerr 05:41, January 29, 2011 (UTC) User:DJ Mixerr/sig

Selecting a nonexistent page in a userspace that exists, offers you a link to create the page--but in mainspace rather than userspace. Spıke ¬ 22:20 30-Jan-11
- Can you define what you mean by "selecting"? Typing in the URL manually and then clicking create? Creating via Input Box? Creating via the red link in search? --DaNASCAT 18:21, January 31, 2011 (UTC) <staff />
Sorry for the delay; I mean "attempting to open" an existing page from the Uncyclopedia search bar.
A separate issue with DPL: I have just filed an UnNews; it is 3-Feb UTC but 2-Feb here; the story has a {{Date}} dateline of 3-Feb but appears in the DPL Recent News list (assembled with DPL) of 2-Feb. Biggest impact is that, if new stories are ordered by the time of first edit, local time, a newly filed story might not appear at the top of Recent News and I might not give it the editorial treatment it deserves. Spıke ¬ 01:54 3-Feb-11
- And on a completely unrelated matter, I want my "move" tab back. This "rename" crap is stupid. I don't like the arbitrary name changes. MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 02:17, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
- And the 'Publish' thing. And the damn 'photo' thing! Argh! Except apparently other people around Wikia even agree that at least the 'Publish' is nothing short of idiotic... ~ 02:28, 3 February 2011
- And the "Save" button is now "Publish." Both changes are mostly synonymous but "Publish" is guaranteed to goose young egos to "publish" stuff that shouldn't be "published." Or let's say, Wikia should not do gratuitous renaming while a tumultuous change of software versions is under way at the same time. Spıke ¬ 02:31 3-Feb-11
- That sounds like something a local admin can fix by redefining the MediaWiki message. --DaNASCAT 16:55, February 3, 2011 (UTC) <staff />
- But our admins are incompetent. That's why we hired them. MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 17:10, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
- So are most of the admins on Wikia, apparently, as last I'd heard none of the others could find a message to that effect, either... meh. ~ 01:54, 4 February 2011

Pee Review
Everytime I try to put an article up for pee review, it puts the entire content in the page instead of the normal pee review page. How fucked up is that?--- 06:17, January 28, 2011 (UTC)
- The inputbox extension is borked - doesn't recognise the prefix thing, ie 'Uncyclopedia:Pee Review/' and thus it just opens the article for editing instead of making a new review thing. If you name the review something not quite the same as the article and then move it to the proper name or something, it should work, though. >.< ~ 16:22, 28 January 2011
- OK, took it up with Sannse. Asked Spang for help but he's gone AWAL for now, hopefully he'll show up. I'll try to catch Oli to see if he can help, if anyone sees him on IRC can you ask him to take a look at the DPL situation? ~ 20:27, January 28, 2011 (UTC)
Inputbox fixed
And thank you Lyrthia and POTR for the heads up. This means that all VFH, VFP, PEE. UnNews and Village Dump entries can now be created normally. If I missed anything that still has an inputbox that was not fixed, let me know. ~ 12:30, January 29, 2011 (UTC)
- Some of the namespace main pages still had inputboxes instead of createboxes. I might've missed a couple, though.
