Forum:Here's what it's going to come down to
Either range block 92.0.0.0 - 92.15.255.255 (which is an entire ISP in the UK) or the one guy will just keep coming back. Sure, we could effectively be banning 5 or so active admins, but clearly the one guy is so destructive that this needs to occur. Besides, who likes admins anyway? - And this is a semi-serious suggestion. About 1/15th of the IPS has already been blocked just to stop the guy. MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 00:41, August 20, 2010 (UTC)

- One guy is being stupid in the UK. He made a couple of funny articles (all deleted...) but he's still an idiot. MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 00:48, August 20, 2010 (UTC)
- A wiki vandal who I have been calling Papa-Smurf after one of his sockpuppet accounts has been frequently hitting the wiki, though his attacks go as far back as 2008. He is behind an ISP that frequently hands out dynamic IPs, making him very difficult to block without a rangeblock (which, as acknowledged above, would cause collateral damage for legitimate users). He edits behind 92.*.*.* IPs, creates spam articles and vandalizes existing pages, including user and talk pages. Something like twenty sockpuppet accounts so far have been found. Notwithstanding the option of a rangeblock, our best option is to delete, revert, block and ignore- feeding the troll just encourages him. --Andorin Kato 00:52, August 20, 2010 (UTC)
- He does seem to like you, Andorin. MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 00:54, August 20, 2010 (UTC)

- I suggest we entirely give up and cede control of the whole wiki to him posthaste. Who's with me! -- 01:17, August 20, 2010 (UTC)
I'm with you!

- So would this site become UD? Sir MacMania GUN—[01:30 20 Aug 2010]
This is ridiculous
One troll and we want to block all of England? Stop giving him the attention he craves. Reverting (and blocking for admins) isn't that hard.--HM (T) 03:09, August 20, 2010 (UTC)
- But I would make the argument that blocking this ISP (not the entire nation, thank goodness) from editing and account-creating will stop him from trying to solicit further attention and cut the problem at the nip—well, more like cut the problem at 15% of broadband-connected Britain that would be blocked from editing Uncyc, but it's for their own good. (Perhaps existing members could be individually unblocked or wouldn't be affected in any case? Don't know how that works. If people really, really want to participate, could they create an account at a computer connected to a different ISP (ex. some publicly available computer) and use that account at home?)
- Also, reverting and blocking may be easy, but I suspect that it would distract them from other issues, and that this repetitive time-consuming process would be far more valuable to this troll as far as attention goes. In addition, a temporary solution to CartoonistHenning's attempting to further harass Uncyc by some similar magick was Flammable's banning 2/3 of Norway (albeit temporarily).
- And if I see Picard face-palming in any further significant capacity, I will lash out against ST:TNG and how ridiculous it is. Stick to Smurfs. Sir MacMania GUN—[04:07 20 Aug 2010]
Massive fail
Carphone Warehouse are TalkTalk broadband, one of THE LARGEST broadband providers in the UK, they have a METRIC FUCKTON of IP ranges and they all look completely different, so good luck with that chummo -- Prof. Olipro KUN (W)Anchor Op Bur. (Harass) 07:25, August 21, 2010 (UTC)
