Talk:Futurama/Colonization
Concept and development[edit source]
Up until Saturday (21th July) ideas for the current colonization,
Futurama
can be hashed out here. The discussion below should be geared towards what sort of concept the article will have. All colonizers are welcome to participate in the discussion. Other things that could happen during this planning phase include deciding which participants will be working on which sections, although that is strictly optional.
Sometime around the 27th a general outline from these ideas will be compiled and posted here. Once the outlines are picked, this will be moved to the discussion page.
Post your opinions and ideas for Futurama below.

What sort of angle should we go for on it?[edit source]
Should we make fun of the show's setting, or maybe write it from the perspective of one of the main characters? Whatever we do, we can't add too many inside jokes; this needs to be comprehensible to outsiders. Saberwolf116 (talk) 16:44, July 14, 2012 (UTC)
- Frankly, I haven't seen it, so I wouldn't be of much help. --
- Try watching this and this to give you an idea. Saberwolf116 (talk) 17:01, July 14, 2012 (UTC)

The in-show universe is rich enough to support a mostly-straight encyclopedic article, treating the show's world as a documentary representation of the year 3000, rife with running gags and extrapolation. For that extra twist, why not go with the one that the show itself employs: despite all of the future-ness, the world 1000 years from now is still going to be more or less exactly the same? --
22:31, July 14, 2012 (UTC)- We should also try to exploit the show's Amercentricity. Saberwolf116 (talk) 02:26, July 15, 2012 (UTC)
- TKF's suggestion is along the lines of where I'd take it. I'd also suggest we work out some kind of theory as to how these documentaries from 1,000 years in the future managed to end up back in the present as well. Something pseudosciencey. Nominally Humane! 06:09 16 Jul
- Pseudoscience to the max. Groening demands it. --
- I suggest that we do one angle: write about the world of Futurama, and in the vein of Future ☭f tomorrow, today! Just replace Communism with things like Planet Express, Fry, Omicron Persei 8, and then put up some touristy ad. 11:22, July 16, 2012 (UTC)

What about doing it as if Futurama was a live action (not cartoon) series. A cartoon version in the mould of Star Trek cartoon series could be mentioned as a spin-off noble failure. mAttlobster. (hello) 22:05, July 16, 2012 (UTC)
- For. I'm for both ideas, hence the "simultaneous" comments. They were actually posted a few nanoseconds apart due to Maj. Gen. Relativity. -- 23:22, July 16, 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps, we could have a description of the Futurama universe told by a Fry who was put into a mental institution for claiming to have visited the future. Do you know what I mean? -- 23:43, July 18, 2012 (UTC)
- To be honest, I don't know what a Fry is, nor what the hell anyone is talking about. Should I watch a bit of Futurama before I start? -- 00:46, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
What kinds of quotes should we put in it (if any)?[edit source]
Practically every article I've seen here has some sort of quotation, whether it's three in a row at the beginning or spread out throughout the article. What kinds of "quotes" will spice up this article? -- 15:14, July 18, 2012 (UTC)
- This is not the sort of question we should be asking right now. Let's lay out a solid concept first. -- 16:14, July 18, 2012 (UTC)
- But to answer your question: A funny one. -- 16:14, July 18, 2012 (UTC)
Concept Vote[edit source]
You heard the pitches, now let's iron out which ones are the most workable. --
03:03, July 19, 2012 (UTC)TKF/Puppy's Idea[edit source]
In which Futurama is a truthful representation of the year 3000+, told from the encyclopedian perspective of a future-contemporary. Straight riff on show's themes and foibles, with expected heaps of pseudoscience and anachronisms.
- Like. Also, we'd throw in something about the show's cancellation and revival being a "gap in the historical records" or something. I could also see Lobster's idea as easily being incorporated into this one. One flaw is that it could possibly get overextended, though. -- 03:03, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
- As if it were real. -- 15:01, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
- I didn't know we had this template Saberwolf116 (talk) 21:51, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
- This was TKF's idea.
- While I give it complete support, I take no credit for it. Nominally Humane! 11:28 27 Jul
Matt Lobster[edit source]
In which Futurama was a live action television series about the future, with a failed cartoon spinoff.
- Like Did you know that template existed? -- 14:52, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
- A little vague at the moment, but I could come around to it if Matt drafted a solid intro. -- 15:34, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
Xamralco's Idea[edit source]
In which the world of Futurama is but a fevered dream of Phillip J. Fry, madman-at-large.
- Like this one too. A simple gateway into humor and thematic exploration, especially the oft-criticized romantic angle. We can't get too indulgent in the narration, though. --
- Officially standing behind this one. The simplest conceit, but it has the potential to reach equal comedic depths as the other, more sprawling and less focused approach. -- 02:19, July 20, 2012 (UTC)
03:03, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
- My personal favorite. Saberwolf116 (talk) 21:51, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
- This I see more potential for humor here. -- hmm... 23:43, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
- Ooh. I like this idea. If we take TKFs idea, add in this idea, and do the article in Fry's perspective, it could work. Otherwise, the constant "this isn't real" would kill it. IF this goes ahead, then TKF's concept, but with the open "I don't know if this is reality" per "Total Recall" (Arnie version) idea at the end. Nominally Humane! 03:06 27 Jul
Joey Number's Idea[edit source]
In which Futurama is the alternate version of our universe, and it is an amalgamation of the three ideas.
- Dislike this one. We can be serious about this one though. 10:21, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
- Uncyclopedia seems to hate haet hat alternate history articles. -- 14:52, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
Are we gonna start yet?[edit source]
'Cause nobody's edited this page in six days? -- 18:37, July 26, 2012 (UTC)
- Yes. I move we start tomorrow under the "Fry is Insane" premise. Saberwolf116 (talk) 18:40, July 26, 2012 (UTC)
- Deja vu. I was wondering, why isn't Joe9320 active? -- 18:43, July 26, 2012 (UTC)
- I started us off with a very basic skeleton. Feel free to add onto it. Saberwolf116 (talk) 18:48, July 26, 2012 (UTC)
- There. I just spammed everyone's talk pages telling them to get their asses over here. Let's begin! Saberwolf116 (talk) 19:05, July 26, 2012 (UTC)

Alrighty then[edit source]
So I've started fleshing out an outline of sorts. I see it going the way of straight narration in the form of fake "asylum documents" but with supposed notes from doctors etc. mixed in as opposed to the whole "I'm just some crazy guy and I'm gonna tell you my story" kind of thing. Any thoughts? Also: Do we wanna break it down into particular sections that people can write or just sort of go at it like a feeding frenzy? -- hmm... 00:07, July 27, 2012 (UTC)
- An outline of various sections would be good. I like the angle you're going at with the insane asylum stuff; makes it seem more deranged.
- Allow me to procure some usable images. I'll put them in a "possible images we can use" section.
- Saberwolf116 (talk) 00:10, July 27, 2012 (UTC)
- Mkay. Sounds good. So I figure we could go just straight chronological. Or: Perhaps we could sort of mimic an encyclopedia format but all in the ranting-style voice? Like, say instead of a "Characters" section we have:
- ==There's a lot of people that I met in the future==
- The Professor: He's a nice guy. Owns Planet Express. Turns out he's like my (great great) grandson too... -- hmm... 00:20, July 27, 2012 (UTC)
- You know, Futurama is actually made by the same guy that produces The Simpsons. So I was thinking that "The Professor" could be an older version of Bart Simpson. --
- Not quite sure what you're getting at here. Do you mean like somehow melding the two universes together? I feel that'd be a bit much -- hmm... 02:10, July 27, 2012 (UTC)
- I honestly don't know what I can do to help out, so I am trying my best. --
- Lol. It's alright. I see you mentioned that you haven't seen the show above. The professor is indeed a character in the show, so yeah. Nothing fabricated here. Just talking about formatting options. -- hmm... 03:54, July 27, 2012 (UTC)

Right, so we are up to this[edit source]
OK, guys, I'm back. I'm just away from my computer for a while. So we decided that we go into the direction of the Bruce Wayne article from two years ago. Now all we need is to get some ideas in. Right, as we just started, let's say that Fry is just insane. 06:00, July 27, 2012 (UTC)
- I've been involved quite a bit. -- 14:59, July 27, 2012 (UTC)
- Uncyclopedia is becoming more of a ghost town now. So let me just take some time to read what we have so far. ~ 16:05, July 28, 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps, we should look at it more like this[edit source]
Instead of just describing what happened to Fry, we could have him talk as if he was talking to a friend and mentioning things out of order. For example:
- I made out with hot chicks too.
- There was this Asian girl named Amy. She would only wear pink and we did it while our car was being towed on Mercury. And there was also this one-eyed, purple-haired mutant. Boy, was she hot. I mean, I now that sounds repulsive, but she sure had a nice rack.
We wouldn't use that, but do you get what I'm saying? -- 16:20, July 28, 2012 (UTC)
- Concept good, that text itself isn't funny. ~
- I know. Hence why I said, "We wouldn't use that." -- 16:39, July 28, 2012 (UTC)
- He could say that he once drank pee from a hot chick making him intoxicated because she had spent the past two hours at a bar from the future. (Don't mind me, I've been watching this stuff on Wikimedia Commons.) ~ 16:45, July 28, 2012 (UTC)
- That makes no sense. Also, have you seen the show yet? -- 18:45, July 28, 2012 (UTC)
- No, I have not seen the show. ~
- Why don't you watch it? -- 19:41, July 28, 2012 (UTC)
- Still lookin' for something good on YouTube. ~
- Are you on netflix? They have the complete series. -- 19:50, July 28, 2012 (UTC)
- I'm watching Da Gamez now. On a more relevant note, I'm searching "futurama" on YouTube. ~ 20:18, July 28, 2012 (UTC)

- There. This. This is what I was trying to get at (kind of. see above.). Yeah, I'm still a little afraid of us just sort of regurgitating stuff from the show but maybe this can help break that pattern. -- hmm... 07:50, July 29, 2012 (UTC)
Bite my shiny metal ass![edit source]
I just saw this.
Does anyone know other good quotations we can use? ~
21:05, July 28, 2012 (UTC)- Like catchphrases? I think we should skip that for now and just focus on the perspective thing. Other than that:
BUMP BUMP BUMP[edit source]
C'mon people. Let's finish this shiz. --federal BOOBIES inspector 00:29, August 8, 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah. Hey, did you hear that Apple won't include a YouTube plugin in the iPhone 5? ~
- That's weird. Why? --federal BOOBIES inspector 00:47, August 8, 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know. It's probably part of their rivalry with Google. It could be bad for Apple's business (and good for Android). But you know, Google's working on an app they will put on the App Store. And it might be better than Apple's YouTube app. Anyway, we gotta finish this Colonization! (We can talk about Apple vs. Google over on Forum:Count to a million.) ~ 00:55, August 8, 2012 (UTC)

OK, just to be clear, this is kind of how I think it should go:[edit source]
(I don't want to start messing with stuff that other people have written so I won't put it on the actual page just yet, but this is how I envision it:)
I had a lot of friends in the future.[edit source]
There was Leela[edit source]
She's a one-eyed mutant. She was my girlfriend. Though not really, for a while.
My best friend was a robot named Bender.[edit source]
He likes to talk about his "shiny metal ass" a lot. He also drank a lot. He had too! He was a robot, see, and in the future robots run on alcohol.
Then there was the professor[edit source]
I worked at a delivery company[edit source]
We had many adventures
The time I went to the moon[edit source]
The time I found out where Slurm comes from[edit source]
Slurm is this drink in the future. Did I not mention that? Anyway...
The time I met George Washington[edit source]
He was just a head floating in a jar, as it turns out. That's how they do things in the future I guess.
(^^Brief... Shouldn't recount whole episodes, as someone else said.)
You know. Slightly more packaged and organized, ya dig? Right now it's just sort of chronological-type rambling and I don't think people exactly talk like that. --federal BOOBIES inspector 01:12, August 8, 2012 (UTC)
- Well, I actually accept that idea. Why not incorporate into the article? 11:30, August 8, 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, it needs to be less by-the-numbers series summaries. We should try to avoid plain episode summaries in general. People like to ramble about moments, sure, and there'll be a place for that (like your section for his adventure), but he should also ramble about the universe and its crazy concepts in general. I mean, it's a weird show that people sometimes don't really appreciate its weirdness. Also, Ken Keeler proved a math theory just for an episode's plot once. We should mention that. --
- By the same token, talking about the best episodes is fine. ~
- There's a difference between referencing an episode to help a joke and turning an article's section into strictly step-by-step plot summary. Plus, you really should watch the show already. For your health. --
- File:23091137.jpg We need that Not Sure If... picture for the Bender part. "Then I met someone who looks like Bender, but he is not Bender.
