Forum:What the hell is this new login screen
Seriously?!
SERIOUSLY?!
And that screenshot's not the half of it. The other half is that I couldn't even figure out how to bring up the log in prompt, and that's with people on Skype giving me hints. Not only does this look ugly, it's quite visibly broken, and the "Log In" link doesn't even look like a link.
What was wrong with the old one?
And by the old one I mean the MediaWiki default one. You know, the one Wikipedia uses. – Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize • writings • critchat) 20:10 May 07, 2010
- Well, this real awesome guy said Wikia changed it. They also changed the watch tab to "following" for some reason, but he went and changed that back cause he's awesome. And I agree, the new login page makes it a bit harder (I almost recreated my account when I got on today) to actually log on. It was prompting me to make a new account and whatnot before I finally realised what was going on. Perhaps we could kindly ask Wikia to change it back? MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 22:20, May 7, 2010 (UTC)
- I also disliked "following" instead of "watch" (now reverted), because it necessarily led to two terms to describe the same thing. And the creator of "following" seemed to want the row of tabs to show you the current status, when most of them show you what will happen when you click the tab.
- Separately, my watch list mysteriously appeared on my home page, though when I clicked "(hide)" it went away for good. There is a (new?) check box in My preferences that seems to make this option go away, and it says it's "highly recommended" that you do so. I agree, but then why was the initial state of this option the opposite?! Spıke ¬ 11:28 11-May-10

Need help
linked due to size, too lazy to shrink/crop
This is the login screen I'm seeing right now. It appears to provide no means to login to an existing account. What should I do? Is there something I should click on to make it look like the screen above? Or just wait until someone changes this back? 131.215.159.169 07:31, May 8, 2010 (UTC) (normally Pentium5dot1 | t c)
- Try clicking "Log in". Even though it doesn't look like a link, and your cursor will recognize it as text, clicking it worked for me and opens up a log-in form. --EMC [TALK] 08:02 May 8 2010
- Just as well I found this discussion I was having the same problem. It is like the wiki had changed all the locks on the door to this site to discourage anyone coming here! I suggest a link is put on the front page to help ALL users/newbies etc otherwise we will end up with a drop in traffic/interest. Yours Sincerely, Disgusted of Ancient Rome. --RomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 09:47, May 8, 2010 (UTC)
- Clicking "log in" brings up the bolded words "username" and "password" and then the clickable box "Login", but conspicuously lacks a place for me to put my username and password. I think I'm actually locked out. Halp. --130.64.131.107 11:05, May 8, 2010 (UTC)
- Odd. What browser are you using? I've managed to log in on FF, IE, chrome, opera and safari for pc, as well as my phone's browser. Do you have scripts disabled? Is it an older version? Nominally Humane! some time Saturday, 12:13, May 8 2010 UTC

(arbitrary outdent) Yes, Electrified mocha chinchilla is right - I should have realized that I could click on the words "Log in". It was getting late and I was in a bit of a hurry (so PuppyOnTheRadio, sorry for making you worry unnecessarily by not paying attention to this thread; anyway, you should have been able to see from the screenshot that I'm using Firefox.). 131.215.159.169 18:21, May 8, 2010 (UTC) (normally Pentium5dot1 | t c)

The consensus is pretty clear
So onto phase 2: Kindly asking Wikia to revert it back. Honestly, I favor the MediaWiki default, but anything would be an improvement.
Please mosey on over to Special:Contact and explain to Wikia that the current login screen isn't working. Feel free to include:
- Screenshots of the broken login page (in multiple browsers if you really feel up to it but one's good enough)
- Your own experience with the login screen, particularly if you couldn't login without help
- Any further technical difficulties as a result of the change - i.e. I can't select the "keep me logged in" box (there doesn't even appear to be a box) so I get logged out every time I close the tab
- Suggestions for improvement - i.e. changing the login screen back
The more emails they get, the better of a chance we'll get a response. Complaining in the channel or to particular Wikia staff isn't going to do much of anything, but regular email feedback stands a shot.

Guys...
I really don't need you spamming Special:Contact. An email to let us know of the problem is great. But as for "the more the better" ... well, frankly, I'm just going to start deleting them unanswered, there aren't enough of us working on email to make that a helpful way of getting our attention. (edit: I mean email is a good way, 100s of identical mails just saying "bleh" wouldn't be... if it's bug reports, those are valuable)
Also, trolling the Wikia IRC channels is a really bad way of trying to get our attention. Those channels are for user to user help and don't often have staff in them. In fact, the one channel that has a very regular staff presence is #uncyclopedia. Will you please consider talking to me when you have a problem?
On the log in screen - yes, we are aware there are problems with it in Monobook. This is part of the work to bring in facebook connect, and to consolidate the 201 different ways that it's possible to log in to the site into one place. I talked to the guys working on this Friday, and there should be fixes coming soon. I'll check in with them when I get back to the office on Monday to find out progress.
I do understand your annoyance, and I'm sorry about the problem. But please... many of you guys see me every day, talk to me? Thanks -- sannse (talk) 01:11, May 9, 2010 (UTC)
- ...are problems with it in Monobook? Does this mean monaco skins are unaffected? ...201 different ways... Is there an alternative we can use in the meantime? Nominally Humane! some time Sunday, 02:26, May 9 2010 UTC
- The Monaco version is new too, but the skin has two links for "log in" and "create an account" - and the new box has tabs with the right tab selected. You can get to this version via this link. You can also get to the log in screen directly with this link. There is still the problem for those who don't have javascript enabled, I've just talked to the techy guy concerned, and he says this should be fixed soon (probably Monday). Also, I may have exaggerated with the 201 different ways bit. sannse (talk) 02:56, May 9, 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, the issue with it not showing the Please keep me logged in seems to be sorted, so although it's still buggy, it's working better. Nominally Humane! some time Sunday, 04:16, May 9 2010 UTC

- How about the fact that the vast majority of people on uncyclopedia could possibly care any less about logging into anything resembling wikia in any way? And if were even humanly possible, they would care even less about using facebook connect? And you say the only thing we have to put up with in the mean time for this fantastically useless feature is that we can't log in?! [Neither a dictionary nor thesaurus could suggest the right word to go here]. • Spang • ☃ • talk • 05:45, 09 May 2010
- FU SPUNG. It was an honest mistake to not check the Monobook skin. Crap happens. I was trying to be useful by providing Wikia feedback, but I went about it the wrong way (sorry Wikia!). It'll get fixed, jeebus. In the meantime there's an alternate link to something we can log into no matter what (barring not having JavaScript activated). Yes it sucks, but such is buggy-ass software. – Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize • writings • critchat) 06:25 May 09, 2010
- You can log in - the problem is in the link to log in not showing correctly as a link (unless you don't use javascript, in which case there is a bigger problem, but then I know you do). Sorry again for the bugs -- sannse (talk) 07:53, May 9, 2010 (UTC)
- OK, I didn't know the login screen was your work. So: it would be better if I didn't have to retype my password and username again every time I log in, but what the hell - it's just 2 seconds or so. And no, I would not stick a fork into anyone's eye in real life. -- Style Guide 04:14, May 10, 2010 (UTC)

- Oh you totally can log in... I'll tell you what confused me, which you might also want to add to the bugs list: I clicked logout to test the login screen, Clicked log in straight away, I logged in, and guess what page it returned me to without asking? Special:Logout. Which logged me out. Logging in again returned me to it again, logging me out again. Hence why I thought I couldn't log in, even when I could see where the right link was. Might not want to return people to that particular page after logging in ;) • Spang • ☃ • talk • 02:23, 12 May 2010
