I figured out what a grue looks like in the Infocom text adventures. This is a bit from Sorcerer, set in the Zork world. Important parts are bolded. Not much info, but our current pictures work well.

There's a flash of light nearby, and you glimpse a horrible, multi-fanged creature, a look of sheer terror on its face. It charges away, gurgling in agony, tearing at its glowing fur.
