VoteOnTheDeletion[edit source]

Hey, mon, when a thing on VFD doesn't have a clear outcome (as in, definitely a VFDable thing with no votage majority on either side), it'd be nice if you could wait a little longer before closing it. A day is the established minimum with votes, but if folks can't make up their minds, it's usually safer to leave it for a few more, you know?

Also, if you do close something, even if you do decide to archive it yourself, could you please still use the {{VFDc}} template and leave a comments that it was, indeed, kept - this isn't just for the poopsmiths, but also for anyone who cares to look through the archive later, as normally only the deleted ones don't have those. Makes it a lot easier to sort out more quickly what the outcome actually was, and stuff, especially after a couple of years have passed and everything has passed into deep histories.

Also also, the date on the {{oldvfd}} isn't when it was closed, but when it was nominated, just for future reference. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 19:21, 7 March 2011

I am responding in reverse, because that's the way I roll. I just did the 5 tilde trick for the date - didn't even think about it until after it had saved, and then figured a day here or there isn't going to matter.
I did look quickly for the {{VFDc}}, but got sidetracked and forgot to change it later.
And near even scores with 7 or 8 votes in suggests that even though I see no redeemable, others obviously do. Given that it's about a sub-culture that I have almost no knowledge of, I figured it probably has more appeal amongst gamers. Pup 09:53 07 Mar '11
Well, the date makes more of a difference if the thing is left longer before being closed, as they usually are. Thing is, the discussion isn't just about voting - people often work on the articles while they're there, and people's minds have been changed by reasonable discourse in the past. Take it down too quickly, and the chance of that is pretty much lost and nothing comes of the nomination at all. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 17:50, 8 March 2011

WhileWe'reOnTheThing[edit source]

Frosty nominated Call of Duty: Black Ops and I called the nomination invalid as the article already had {{ICU}}. You declared the vote settled and removed it from VFD, apparently without archiving it. The problem is that Sycamore asked Frosty to read the rulebook and I, trying to clarify Sycamore's remarks, could find nothing to point to. The fact that a nomination was invalid doesn't mean it shouldn't be archived. Cheers. Spıke ¬ 12:46 8-Mar-11

Well, removing invalid noms isn't that big of a deal, as if they're invalid, not terribly much point in archiving them. This one is a little fuzzier, as it wasn't so much invalid as just that it shouldn't have been nominated... if that's even a distinction. Can be nice to archive some of them them so that a precedent stands for future reference should other folks want to look and see what happens, but that would only work if said folks would look at the examples in the archive before doing things. Yes, I mean you. PotR, seriously, please look at how to do these things before charging ahead and doing them; the {{VFDc}} goes on the title. Look at the examples. Please, it's all there in the archive. If that doesn't help, you can also ask; there are two perfectly good poopsmiths, both of which tend to be a good deal more polite than the other one, who makes a practice of nagging everyone to death, but I suspect any of them would be willing to help. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 17:45, 8 March 2011
The distinction isn't a criterion, because any time there is a conversation, people might want to point to it after the fact. That doesn't depend on how invalid the conversation was. Spıke ¬ 20:26 8-Mar-11
Oh, and one more thing.
*explodes* 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 19:25, 8 March 2011
It would have been lovely if, when I realized I put the VFDc in the wrong place and then moved it to archive that the stupid SOB thing had actually saved the way I had wanted it too. Pup 07:48 08 Mar '11
Actually, it's fun making you explode. While I have your attention, which parses quicker? Svg or gif? Have a few images that are only 3-6 colours, including transparency, that are currently saved as png, but they're taking longer to download then I would like. I want to speed it up but I seem to recall that Svg has to parse to png as part of wikimedia, so trying to work out what would be the least data size/parsing required to get the same effect. Pup 08:01 08 Mar '11
Bloody hellfire.
I made a mistake when I didn't save. Okay?
Pup 08:35 08 Mar '11
Well, do it right next time. Okay?
Oh, and if it's a few-colours image, a gif would probably be best, assuming you don't have complexical transparency and/or intention to scale them... gifs partly compress by colours, so should be pretty small, though. Dunno about svg, but aye, using it through the software here will yield a png anyway. Can directly link it, but then there be browser compatibility issues... 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 21:18, 8 March 2011
By complexical I assume you mean semi-transparent. In this case no. In relation to compressing, I'm going to index the colours, so this should minimize file size. (User:PuppyOnTheRadio/Lego is where the current images are, btw.) I have files at the size I want, or at least if I redo them they will be, so parsing the size won't impact either, and there's no animation involved - or at least not as I currently envisage it. Svg would be ideal if it were linked from outside, but as you say, browser issues, and I don't trust the way that mediawiki parses them anyway. Gif sounds like a winner. Unless, of course, you have a better idea upon seeing the images. (I'm going to tweak them to have the angled lines look more lime lines as well. The software I used to create the originals is not the best image editor, but was the best to create the models I wanted.) Also have a question about POV-ray though. Ever used it? Any idea how to change from a perspective view to an orthographic view? Pup 01:18 09 Mar '11
The edges do weird things when scaled and reindexed, and gif doesn't support semitransparency at all, but anyhow... and I've never heard of the thing. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 05:19, 9 March 2011

CouldYouMoveToMainSpace[edit source]

I'm glad you have protected User:Another n00b/Edit this page!!. (for the joke) - I'm not just another n00b...oh wait, I am. LOL vandalz

Hmmm. Don't know about that. I'd probably use the {{noediting}} to keep the joke, but I wouldn't protect it as such unless it becomes a consistent vandal magnet. I'd also be looking at fleshing it out - creating fake section edits that direct to Epic Fail or something similar, and adding text to it as to why you shouldn't be editing. Make it something like Why?: You shouldn't edit this page. As it stands it's a cute one liner, but I don't normally like cute one liners in main space without having something that makes it really stand out. Pup 09:37 11 Mar '11

CalmDownOnTheBanning[edit source]

Secretly I was always hoping to have an excuse to write something on your talkpage just for the header conventions alone. But anyway.

What's up with the itchy trigger finger on Another n00b? From what I see all he did was mistakenly edit out a redlink. Even a day seems pretty excessive for that, and week bans are really pretty harsh. He came on IRC tonight to plead his case, and while I personally don't think he needs to be banned for such a really minor thing, I wouldn't be so rude as to unban him out from under you. But I do ask you to reconsider. 24 hours is kind of an awful long time for a stupid mistake; that kind of duration is usually reserved for something serious like disrupting voting procedures.

I realize I might only be hearing half the story here, so again, I leave it up to you.  Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize  writings  critchat) 09:21 Mar 12, 2011

He did something similar in the past where he decided to delete an entire talk topic off his talk page as he didn't like where it was going. I told him at that time not to do it again, and he did. He also has edited user pages in the past that aren't his, which he was asked not to do, and then did it again, and that got him an hour long ban. I figure a longer ban was in order to let him know that it wasn't appreciated, and so I dealt it. No idea how much longer is left on it, but I'm happy to bow to the wilisdom of older admins. Short story is I want him to behave, and a slap in the face is sometimes a short, sharp object lesson. Pup 12:35 12 Mar '11
"He also has edited user pages in the past that aren't his"... I'd just like a moment to sigh really heavily and reflect upon the irony of that statement in an Uncyclopedia where apparently that shit doesn't matter anymore. Maybe I'll make another post in that forum. Anyway.
I kind of suspected there might have been a repeat-offense thing going on here, which is why I didn't unban him. Since it is a repeated offense I can see how you'd get irritated at him doing it yet again. So yeah, in that case I'd say the day block is justified, and if he does it again, it's a week, but make sure to lurk on IRC now and again to see if he'd like to talk it out.  Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize  writings  critchat) 18:55 Mar 12, 2011

RandomOccurenceOfTheDay[edit source]

I had finally reached the final dungeon of Final Fantasy I. Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the end. Then I learned some new spells, and I still could make it to the end. Then I got this really awesome sword, and I STILL couldn't make it to the end. Guess that's what fighting 5 admins bosses will do to you. You can't beat 'em, and you can't join 'em. You can only go eat shit, like a fucker. --Scofield 12:53, March 14, 2011 (UTC)

I wonder about that, as well as beginning to wonder about the way we vote on admins for the site. I honestly don't think that I make a good admin simply due to lack of time here as well as not really looking at off-site stuff such as IRC, UnSkype, Facebook or any other things of that ilk. So having me as admin seems a little odd. However, being an admin is like having Ultima, along with MP rage, autolife, and ultimate weapons for all party members - something which you need to defeat the dark aeons in FFX, so I'm assuming it's the same for FFI. I remember the time you told me, "stop trying to get featured. The best writers are those who simply try to make others laugh." I heeded your advice, and stopped self-nomming. However, after my UnScripts:Superman's first adventure got an encouraging Pee Review, I finally decided to try again. And it is quite easily my best performance out there, so far. A 5.5 score, and no "against" votes. (though Hyperbole did abstain). Anyways, this may not last for long. My nomination is likely to be cut down by a sudden barrage of against votes or be removed due to low health. Anyways, you might want to check the article out, and see if it's worth it or not. Either you'll initiate the barrage of "Against" votes, or increase the score by 1, or abstain. Either way, do what you think is right, and please don't accuse me of vote-whoring. --Scofield 13:28, March 24, 2011 (UTC)
