Use [[:image:David bravo 180x180.jpg]] to link without displaying it. I like the picture, by the way, but I think the one that's on the page now is perfect in its nerdy, unedited simplicity. Custom Stub Templates

Template:Babystub
Template:Crackstub
Template:Crapstub
Template:Incompletestub
Template:Tubs
Template:Yodastub
Template:Manpig
Template:Skinny
Template:Colour
Template:Vagina
Template:Penis

Keep Whilst the templates on Uncyclopedia:Stubs can be used to replace all of these, and don't think they should be used, I can see no problem having custom stubs, even Wikipedia has 'em (and we are attempitng to parody them), I stand ready to refute additonal arguments for their huffing as need be :-) --Elvis 04:22, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Keep most of these. The set we currently have is already the result of combining a larger collection, thanks to a fine random choose/option algorithm, so a fair amount has already been toasted or merged into a few main templates.

  • The weak ones: Babystub (8 links) is rubbish and in poor taste (abort it), Yodastub and Manpig are OK but are used once each so could potentially be moved inline to corresponding articles Yoda and female (unless they're ever to be used again), Skinny ("...expand this stub by feeding it") is not currently in use, is amusing, relevant only to food articles (possibly worth keeping).
  • The category-specific texts: Template:Colour, Template:Vagina, Template:Penis respectively indicate you can help by (colours) colouring this in between the lines (9 links), (sexuality-vagina) stretching it (14 links), (sexuality-penis) making it longer (8 links), All are topic-specific jokes but are used often enough that pasting the underlying meta-template into every affected article (31 in total) makes little sense. Best to leave these be.
    • Relatedstub makes those easier. {{relatedstub|coulour|coulouring this in between the lines}} and {{relatedstub|vagina|stretching it}} results in the same exact thing:

:::{{relatedstub|colours|coulouring this in between the lines}} :::{{relatedstub|sexuality|stretching it}}

    • Not really, the existing definition of these templates looks like {{astub|This color-related or colour-related article is a [[stub]]. You can help Uncyclopedia by |coloring/colouring it in between the lines|.|[[Image:SPECTRUM.JPG|100px]]}} Only more complex as it allows an image to be specified - something which we may want to keep for this particular set. --Carlb 15:49, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)

{{colour}}

      • Once again, {{relatedimagestub|color/colour|coloring/colouring it in between the lines|SPECTRUM.JPEG|100px}}
{{relatedimagestub|colours|coloring/colouring it in between the lines|SPECTRUM.JPG|100px}}
      • No, that didn't work, as this template is in two categories category:colours category:colors, not just one. Like the edits to {{disambig}} yesterday (which adversely affected all pages already using the template) or the edits to democracy today (which left one box with the lone word "politics" at the top of the article instead of a stub template at the base), these don't always do what you intend. Please proofread before saving your posts? --Carlb 16:03, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)
        • The democracy one was correct. Hell, I added it in the first place. It btoke when someone started moving all the stubs around. It originally displayed this:

{{relatedimagestub|politics|increasing its funding|rooster.gif|50px}}<nowiki> Oh, and the rooster doesn't belong there. It was just a test for the image functionality. [[User:General Specific|General Specific]] 16:11, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC) * The semi-generic: [[Template:Crackstub]] (9 links, none of the articles specifically drug-related) is a collection of all the "the author is on crack" tags which seem to be a running joke here. They could be moved into <nowiki>{{stub}}, but could quickly become repetitive were that done. Maybe.

  • Differences in message content: Template:Incompletestub (3 links) indicates that an article is a work in progress that the author hasn't bothered to complete - slight difference in meaning from the other stubs. Template:Crapstub (7 links) also differs in message content as it bluntly criticises the quality of the article, not merely its size. 'Leave 'em as-is.
  • The lysdexia tag: Template:Tubs (10 links) appears on articles such as grammar or dyslexia and is deliberately mispeled. Best to leave that be.

In total, I would keep the majority of these tags (at least six of the eleven listed, maybe more). Incomplete article, poor-quality article, deliberately-mispeled article, and the three topic-related wisecracks about colouring in an article or about sexuality stubs are different enough in content to be kept. The same could potentially be said for the food- or drug- templates were the tags actually being used in a targeted manner in the corresponding articles instead of gathering dust. --Carlb 05:19, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Keep. None of these are VFD-worthy. --Algorithm 07:46, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Keep. The more choice, the better, although some instances that duplicate existing options of Template:Randomstub can be replaced by it. As for Template:Yodastub, I wouldn't have created it if it was possible to incorporate that text in Randomstub, but unfortunately it isn't. I have it reserved for other SW-related stubs, and maybe some beyond SW. - Guest 15:42, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)

The {{randomstub}} version of Yoda is worded differently, as that template includes a category name.
"This {{{1}}} of which you speak?
A stub, this article is.
By expanding it (http://en.uncyclopedia.co/w/index.php?title=Template:Randomstub&action=edit), help Uncyclopedia you can." Not the same beast. :) --Carlb 20:01, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)
What I'm saying is, instead of having a stub template called "Yodastub," you can just use {{Allstubs|[[Image:Yoda.jpg|50px|Yoda]] A [[stub]], this article is. By [http://en.uncyclopedia.co/w/index.php?title=Uncyclopedia:Pages_for_deletion&action=edit expanding it], help Uncyclopedia you can.}} on the 2 or so pages that need it.
Comment. (Please sign your comments: --~~~~) Yodastub being a template only makes sense as the plan is to re-use it elsewhere in Category:Science Fiction, otherwise it would've been coded inline and/or added as a random option to one of the existing templates. --Carlb 15:59, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Uncyclopedia:Stubs and its new/duplicate metatemplates

As for the newly-created Uncyclopedia:Stubs mess:

Comment. The above is wrong. It provides more customization than Template:Allstubs because Allstubs has 3 variables and Customtstub has 1. A notice that says, for instance, "You should probably fix this pile of crap article." is not possible using Allstubs (as far as I know). As far as I'm concerned, this should replace Allstubs for its higher customizability. General Specific 15:30, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Comment: Au contraire, {{allstubs|You should probably |fix| this piece of crap article.}} gives:

OTOH, template:customstub only provides the empty box, not terribly useful without providing the 'edit' link.--Carlb 15:44, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Comment: Thanks for deleting my reply. I really appreciate that. As I said before, I fold. General Specific 16:14, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Delete General Specific 16:14, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Comment More structured, easier to implement for Mediawiki noobs. We already have about 10 zillion stub templates, what's 2 more going to do? Neutral General Specific 15:30, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Comment Don't see how this is more structured, it's just an Allstubs2 knockoff with "The article submitter may also have been {{{3}}} {{{4}}}" missing. --Carlb 15:44, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Comment Easier for noobs. Look here: {{Relatedstub|penis|making it longer}} is a lot easier than typing it out by hand using the Allstubs template. Additionally, this automatically adds the article to the category "penis," which allstubs doesn't do. So Keep for noob-friendliness. General Specific 15:30, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Comment How so? They still have to specify multiple arguments, instead of just tagging as {{stub}} or {{catstub|categoryname}}. And what do they gain by using this particular two-parameter template? Allstubs lets them specify the message to be displayed, relatedstub does not (except for the edit link).
    • Comment My point is, nobody is doing that. Everybody is just creating their own stub template
Comment Catstub lets them customize exactly nothing. Related standardizes the way related stubs are displayed. I'd say merge it with catstub. General Specific
Comment Um, how exactly could you merge this with catstub if they take a different number of parameters? --Carlb 16:41, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Comment I moved it to Template:customcatstub and completely redid it. Look at the next comment for the reasoning.
Go ahead and delete all these. However, there is no harm in having a customizable catstub. Please leave Template:Customcatstub alone. It's just a fully customizable version of catstub that automatically adds the article to the specified category. NOT A DUPLICATE OF ALLSTUBS. General Specific 16:48, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)
None of these should have been created. Completely redundant as Uncyclopedia:Templates/Meta-templates already provide some equivalent to all three listed. See Uncyclopedia:Templates and Uncyclopedia:Templates/Stubs for the rest of the info on existing stub/metastub tags. Created by an anon user who also managed to mess up Template:Disambig by replacing it with the content now in Template:Disambiglist. These near-duplicates should be deleted. --Carlb 05:28, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Templates

(Cut & paste from village dump, originally re: Uncyclopedia:Templates, the new seven-page list of - almost - every known Uncyclopedia template in existence.)

"Every template has been added except for the Demystifying Depression navbar (there's no use, it might as well kill itself *sob* nothing links there, goodbye cruel world), Hyad (part of an individual user talk page - why is this a template at all?) Endless/Endless2 (a failed experiment at creating an endless loop of self-including recursive templates) and JWSchmidt/jwschmidt/wtf (duplicates, could well also be a n00b experiment).
Huff the lot of these?"

There are a few other more minor issues, such as three identical disambiguation templates (all are actively being used) under different names and some individual stub templates which are used once (such as Transport) or not at all (Stub/pol) - a few of the long list of Templates/Stubs are rarely-used items which could possibly be combined into one Randomstub-style template instead of many? --Carlb 21:13, 27 Jul 2005 (UTC)

EH? It was only on QuickVFD until someone managed to get it to work (as a redirect), since the move to wikicities it was broken (as a redirect) but is still a link to the list of templates, I certainly still find it useful.--Elvis 10:09, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Comment: Original QuickVFD was May 5, presumably it worked briefly after that and broke during the move? It never was fixed completely; the original version would automatically #REDIRECT you to Special:Allpages with the template namespace already selected (which was nice). This was broken; the current incarnation of this page a workaround which says "click here" with the URL given in external link format. As that particular (not-so)-external link, which also appears in the intro text to Uncyclopedia:Templates, is the only data in the Uncyclopedia: List of Templates article, the page is no longer useful. I've redirected links in Uncyclopedia:Community Portal and Help:Contents to point to the new version, Uncyclopedia:Templates. If there were a way to have the old version redirect automatically to Special:Allpages namespace 10:templates, great, but that hasn't worked since the move and AFAIK no immediate fix is in sight? --Carlb 15:15, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC)

A proposal: Combine catstub with randomstub to build a new template:catstub, keep colour/penis/vagina as-is as being category-specific, keep Wilde Stub as-is, rename the "end of the Internet" template to something more descriptive than just template:template, modify template:stub to take all or most of the various little-used texts and display them randomly, rewrite template:crackstub to display the various variants of "the author is on crack" (including the existing default stub message) randomly, keep tubs, yodastub, manpig as-is, remove the word "politics" from template:stub/pol and move the text into another template, move the lengthy template:transport text into the one article London Underground using it as inline copy, baleet or just ignore babystub in the hope it goes far far away, leaving just the following as our stub templates:

  • stub should randomly display one of the stub messages with no category-related text
  • catstub should randomly display the selected category name with one of the stub messages, effectively replacing randomstub
  • crackstub should randomly display one of the "author is on crack" stub messages with no category-related text
  • Specialised items colour, vagina, penis, manpig, yodastub kept as-is
  • All dyslexic (lysdyxic?) stubtexts moved to tubs
  • skinny kept or rewritten as a category-specific stub tag for food-related articles
  • The hello-kitty-toilet crapstub and its derivatives left as-is (dubious - Template:crapstub-afterpull is only used once, on a user subpage --Carlb 23:15, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC))
Text of all others except babystub copied into the main stub and catstub to be displayed randomly and then huff basically everything else except stub, catstub, crackstub, the hello kitty and the specialised or category-specific stuff. Effectively, a long list of individual templates could be replaced with a shorter collection by displaying individual texts using the random choose/option tags. --Carlb 18:19, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC)
I think you're taking this far too seriously. Go and have a lie down. --Bigrich 18:24, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Disambiguation templates

I've reverted Template:Disam to "This is a disambiguation page, a navigational aid which lists other pages that might otherwise share the same title. A disambiguation page is a bit like a happy pointer finger." Perhaps Template:Disambiguation should also be reverted to "This is a disambiguation page. This means Uncyclopedia is hopelessly confused. Please try again."?

The three templates identical condition is the result of a user copying the content of Template:Disambig over the other two - if the previous VFD consensus on Template:Disam was to keep it, perhaps this was a no-no. --Carlb 23:38, 27 Jul 2005 (UTC)

I can change all the links (Not THAT many) to these three templates to one, and then we could delete the other two, only problem is, which one do we keep?--TheLibrarian 11:42, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC)
I'd suspect {{disambig}} to be the one with the most "what links here" entries, the only reason for having more than the one was to have them say cute things like "a happy pointy finger" or "Uncyclopedia is hopelessly confused". These were created before Algorithm's clever algorithm to choose an option at random was created (as used to show the random mainpage featured image and the {{randomstub|topic}} template text) so three different cute wordings required three physically separate templates at the time. --Carlb 16:04, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC)

By the powers bestowed upon me by the state of Nevada, I hereby declare Template:Disambig the official disamb template. I'm redirecting stuff there, so do your worst to it. It'd be nice if we had a few random passages in it, but that's for someone else to do. --Famine 17:38, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Merge using Algorithm's choose? Hooloovoo 17:43, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC)

That was the idea. The other two are pretty much unliked to now. Template:Disambig is our big weiner. --Famine 17:52, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC)
OK, so lets get rid of the other ones before some idiot uses them again.--TheLibrarian 18:47, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC)
I've #REDIRECTed the others to {{disambig}} and added the random option tags to {{disambig}}. The other two can be baleeted now... --Carlb 20:38, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC)

American-English Dictionary

Apparently copied from English-American Dictionary, with the language references switched around. A slightly funny idea, but it's just going to get outdated as people edit the much more popular English-American dictionary. --Mr2001 02:50, 27 Jul 2005 (UTC)

How about elgooG-ing it, including the E-A page as a template, but displayed in reverse? Hooloovoo 03:15, 27 Jul 2005 (UTC)
I'm not quite sure what you mean. There's an automated way to make one article the reverse of another? --Mr2001 00:59, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC)
I could be mistaken, but I think there's a CSS2 or CSS3 way to reverse text. And while I haven't tested the theory, simply specifying right-to-left on a div that includes the article may render it similar as well? I'm willing to investigate these options if others think it would be funny ;) Hooloovoo 17:47, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Sounds good to me.--Mr2001 06:51, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Keep E-A D may be more popular but it still gets a fair ammount of edits/traffic and has managed to stay reasonably in sync, also due to it's nature there are some diffrent jokes. Maybe just make the links more explicit.--Elvis 05:27, 27 Jul 2005 (UTC)

I don't see why they couldn't be merged so as to include both American and English usages in one page. --Spintherism 05:35, 27 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Comment: This question has come up before with the color and colour articles; at one point they were merged, but a later revision split them to two articles, adding material and wording each to say that the other one was the one with the incorrect speling. ;) --Carlb 21:28, 27 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Vоte this page fоr deletiоn

Obvious reasons.. --Cheeseboi 14:55, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC) P.S. If that page is also essential to Uncyclopedia, blame my relative n00bness, please. Otherwise just delete the page like I asked you to.

Weak keep. I think it can be redeemed, adding a bit more chaos into the mix, and reflecting on the differences between the page deletion process at WP and this one. In short: whack it in the head with a clue-by four? It wouldn't ruin my sleep if it were gone, though. Hooloovoo 20:09, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Move to project namespace as the article appears to be about Uncyclopedia itself. Could also use to be cleaned up a bit... --Carlb 22:20, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Yes you are, and you're a bad boy for vandalizing VFD, anyway I reverted your <s></s> tags, and all the other stuff, so lets continue with the voting. P.S. Look here to see what I'm talking about.--TheLibrarian 19:22, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Vandalising VFD? I tried vandalising BFD but no one cared... --Carlb 00:40, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)
U used the wrong color of red though.--TheLibrarian 06:52, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)

I see no evidence of my vandalizm there. You must be mistaken. Regardless, one night while compiling my DOWHILE vodka<10 vodka++ I stumbled across a page called "Vote this Page for Deletion". Admist the terrible editwars of Romainia and Lithunania, complete with a fair amount of banning and deleting on my part, I set out to protest banning and deleting on uncyclopedia. Because I was drunk.

And yet, although I set out to protest deleting and banning, in the end I justified it, and provided a parable for those who don't understand the need for culling the weak so the strong can flourish and grow.

Now, why did I bother with this history? I really don't know. Personally, I'm apathetic about the page. If anyone can improve upon it, please do. If not, whack it. (BTW, I moved it into the Uncyclopedia namespace yesterday.) --Famine 15:23, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Category:Lt:

For articles like Finikieciai, I've been handling this by:

  • adding the language code (in this case) to the start of the title
  • moving the article to the appropriate category (Category:Lt: in this case)
  • linking to the article from the main page, which in turn is linked from the complete list of Uncyclopedias

Nonetheless, the language barrier is still problematic as we don't even have machine translation for, let alone any long-time users or admins who are familiar with the language. At least and secrets can usually be babel fished out with a fair amount of patience for the folks who don't speak them all. --Carlb 00:57, 4 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Keep Me and my freind are still working on this. We are adding content, its a bit soon to go for deletion. Rangeley
