Without The Beatles (1963) |
Thank Thank You is the title of The Beatles first album, rush recorded in 20 minutes in late 1962. Upon its initial release, the album took the world by storm, a force not seen in Europe since the nostalgic days of the Third Reich. Porkaphone's American subsidiary, Crapitol Records initially refused to release the record. As a result, the rights were given to Va-Jay-Jay Records, and the album was published as Regurgitating... The Beatles!.
Production[edit | edit source]
In early 1962, the Beatles' lineup consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Pete Best. Stu Sutclefft, the second bassist, had recently been found dead in his Hamburg bunker, naked, wrapped in Christmas lights with a large trout stuffed in his anus. At this time, Brian Epstein was an out-of-work barber, who stalked the clubs in Liverpool, attempting to find suitable victims to harvest organs from. After reading about The Beatles on a bathroom wall, Epstein invited the group into his flat under the guise that he wanted to manage them. However, as he was preparing cyanide-laced tea for them, he overheard Lennon and McCartney practicing what would become their first hit, Love My Doo. Realizing that the group had potential, he decided that rather than sell their organs, he actually would manage them. However, Best had already started on his cup of tea, and was dead within the hour. This posed a problem, as the band was now short a drummer (None of them had really liked Pete anyway). Luckily, the day before, Epstein had found Ringo Starr digging for lunch in his garbage, and had since kept him locked in the basement. Coincidentally, Starr was a percussionist, and this worked immensely in the groups favor. Epstein rushed the band to Porkaphone studios in London, where the band cut what would become their first album, Thank Thank You, in twenty minutes (An astonishing feat, considering that the album's length is over 30 minutes).
