Supercar Sandy is a platinum hit album and return-to-form for the newly reformed The Beatles, using recording techniques never before seen, experimental lyrics, and literally only one song. The album attracted severe controversy upon its release, due to the musical repetition, accusations of artificial intelligence being involved in the songwriting, actual fucking racism and Ringo killing a random child live in studio. David Lynch considered the album a major influence in directing his 1994 film I Have No Clue What's Happening Right Now.

Recording and production[edit | edit source]

Despite the death of John Lennon, the remaining Beatles chose to collaborate when they received "stupid amounts of money". At the time, McCartney and Harrison were still hesitant to produce a new album, however Starr persuaded them, saying that he had a great idea for a song that went "dahdahdah SUPERCAR SANDY dah dah DON'T HE DRIVE YOU MAAaaAAaaAaD dah dah dah". Harrison and McCartney were heavily enthused at the idea of such a major hit, persuading the record dealers to give them a special record that was really really long. Harrison later said that the length of Supercar Sandy was necessary from a thematic lens, because of reasons. McCartney agreed, stating that the album was a fascinating treatise on diminishing returns, nostalgia, and child murder, but was "a right arse to record". The album was nearly left unfinished due to the time required to record a Supercar Sandy track, especially due to the band members' busy schedules from their illustrious solo careers. Yoko Ono was instrumental in the final cut of the album, holding the child down.

Reception[edit | edit source]

The album was quickly swept under the rug, only six original uncensored copies having been produced. Mary Whitehouse declared the album an audio nasty and banned its release in Britain. The album was, however, mass-produced in the United States to critical acclaim. It has been stated that the famous knife attack from an intruder to George Harrison's home may have been as a direct result of the release of the album. Harrison's wife Olivia disputed this claim, stating that the popular hits "Free as a Bird", "Real Love", and "Now and Then" (unfinished until 2023) were released later, alongside an apology video on Ringo Starr's Youtube channel.

Studio footage of the song's performance was incorporated into David Lynch's I Have No Clue What's Happening Right Now in a sequence that featured a beautiful woman walking around a black room talking about how the lawnmowers were running. The film featured the song "Supercar Sandy (Deluxe Edition)" in its entirety. Film critics called the reference to Supercar Sandy, and the tragedy surrounding it, insensitive. Lynch responded by releasing the film Inland Empire and the dinosaur Godzilla.
