Thank you for the guidance, I was indeed having problems with it. I'm more or less savey on the wikilanaguage, but the little FAQ about it under awards does not do a good job of explaining how to fashion a signature. I will use the correct syntax from now on. <Splarka> hmmm
<Splarka> I suppose we could modify the monobook.js to transwiki import their monobook.css only on the main page

So blame gwax. I added 3 lines to MediaWiki:Monobook.js to load their CSS (hah, just used the URL to their css, didn't even have to copy it) only when a user is on the front page and using monobook. I rule you now. revert it tomorrow with the other stuff. --Splaka 08:25, 22 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Mn4

You deleted my latest page with the comment "deleted "Mn4": band vanity, please keep it to your Angelfire-esque site", and you did this only a few minutes after I had created it.

I will try to keep this comment polite, and simply ask if taking the piss out of my brother's band with a bunch of totally wrong information is any different from taking the piss out of any other random band on earth?

The acid test is "was it at all funny?". If you think not, then Uncyclopedia is obviously not the kind of site that I should even be attempting to share my own brand of (probably crap) humour. If, however, you think I was just after cheap advertising, then think again. I have never seen Mn4. I live on the opposite side of the world from them. I don't own or have anything to do with the Mn4 band site, and the things I said about them were not complimentary. I was mocking the style of the prose on the band site.

I plead guilty to being irreverent and disrespectful, but if I wanted to be respectful I would have gone to Wikipedia. It sounds like the people that control Uncyclopedia will allow you to make fun of anyone or anything, provided you are not suspected to be related to the person you are making fun of.

Rant over. It is just frustration. As a Wikicity sysop myself I have some fairly strong views about how heavily a wiki should be controlled, and after having had stuff deleted twice within a couple of days of joining Uncyclopedia I guess I've discovered that it is a bit too officiously controlled for my tastes. I'm not saying you don't need tight control. I'm just saying that I'll stop hassling you with my off-message stuff from now on. --Timonroad 09:51, 4 Dec 2005 (UTC)

The acid test that the page failed worst was "Is it notable? Will more than 10 people get the joke?" As we get a few hundred new pages a day, we have to check each one for notability if it is something we don't recognize as notable. For people, we get racecar drivers to sports heros to obscure actors all the time. The easiest way to see if someone or something is notable is to check if there is a wikipedia page about it (that isn't an exact copy of what we're looking at on uncyc, and isn't permanently deleted or on the deletion list, or brand new). Since Uncyc is a satrical view or parody of Wikipedia, this is a rather good guideline we go by. Google searches also reveal some information. Both Google and Wikipedia overwhelmingly seemed to think Mn4 was an asteroid or some sort of tax form. Now, there are provisons made, based on past decisions by Chron (the lazy and aloof founder) on vanity, and we've cobbled them together to make Uncyclopedia:Vanity Policies. People that come to make fun of themselves, or at least allow fun-making in a balanced and equal environment (like, a forum coming here, eg ZFGC) has been allowed if they keep the stuff to one page. But we've had to delete so much "Ha my schoolmate/sibling/teacher/friend is so ghey" that anything approaching that (most easily found through non-notability) is instahuffed. Now, if your page had been obvious band self promotion, we have ways of dealing with that, like this and this. But as it just seemed to be non-notable vanity, RC and I decided it was just deletable. Since I joined 3 months ago there have been 15,000 deletions, and only about 5,000 'kept' additions. So yes, most new stuff is deleted, and this may seem hostile, but it is the only way the uncyc can be kept to even a minimum standard of quality. Sorry. --Splaka 10:30, 4 Dec 2005 (UTC)
Basically what Splaka said. It sounds like the people that control Uncyclopedia will allow you to make fun of anyone or anything, provided you are not suspected to be related to the person you are making fun of. That is actually somewhat close. We don't usually allow pages that appeal to a very small number of people - there are a few exceptions on the Vanity Policies page, but in general, the subject of a page should be recognizable to many people. Yes, the deletion process is perhaps more subjective that Wikipedia; they can get rid of anything factually untrue, but we have to try to judge humor and the appeal of that humor.
I didn't think you were just trying to advertise the band (though when I see a band page, even if it's humorously deprecatory, it's usually safe to assume it was written by a band member), but it just doesn't jive with how we've decided to do things here. If you just want to keep the page somewhere without it being in the main space of Uncyclopedia, I'd be happy to restore the contents and move it to your userpage. --—rc (t) 17:59, 4 Dec 2005 (UTC)
OK RC - thanks for taking the time to explain. I've taken a deep breath and actually read the beginner's guide, including the "vanity policy". I broke the rule, and like any user of a new bit of gear, I should have read the manual first.
My only trouble now is, if none of that was "not notable" - if no more that 10 people were going to get those particular bits of sarcasm - then NOTHING that I write is likely to be notable in your frame of reference. I will opt for early retirement and save myself the embarrassment of further rejection slips. No hard feelings. I just wandered into the wrong bar.--Timonroad 00:57, 5 Dec 2005 (UTC)

After we got a 2nd commercial website name pop up on the UN:F@H team I decided to leave a talk message about it. It's a battle I'm prepared to lose, but at least I've said my piece on it. Anyway, it made me think: Have there been problems with people having .domain type usernames on Uncyclopedia itself? What's the ingorable policy on this if it were to happen (or if it already has)? Would it have been okay for me to have signed up as fullerbrushman.com and make my ~2100 edits? -- T. (talk) 14:57, 9 Dec 2005 (UTC)

I haven't noticed any real problems with advertisement usernames, and I don't think we have any "policy" on it. If a person using a .com (or whatever) nickname made legitimate edits, I personally would probably let it go. --—rc (t) 00:47, 10 Dec 2005 (UTC) Euroipods.com

I was wondering about that. There were about ten articles that had the ArticleFH template but weren't listed in the VFH archives. Haha, very funny. Anyway, what I mean is, since everywhere in the game leads to instant death, why are so many pages there in the category. MrMooCow 00:59, 29 Dec 2005 (UTC)
Honestly, I have no idea. I was involved with Zork up to the laboratory with the hermit. The game was quite playable and tight up to that point, but there have been hundreds of pages made since then and I don't know if it's possible to "win" now. I'm guessing, based on the fact that there have been so many editors, that the game is full of holes. And yeah, the death pages are excessive. --—rc (t) 02:52, 29 Dec 2005 (UTC)
But how do you get to the laboratory with the hermit? All I can find is a kitchen at the start, (north) a house (south) and a forest and a cave.... I think somebody broke whichever link gets you further in the game. MrMooCow 03:06, 29 Dec 2005 (UTC)
I'll check. --—rc (t) 03:09, 29 Dec 2005 (UTC)

Wow, the game is really poor now. Way too many options. Here's how to get to the lab (or at least one way)

> go north
> get knife
> remove knife
> leave house
> go left
> enter cave
> leave cave
> go right
> examine house
> enter house
> go south
> go south
> go left
> enter bathroom
> use knife
> go back
> talk to kid
> enter foyer
> climb stairs

Featured articles waiting list?

Looking at VFH I see a lot of articles that meet the voting criteria to be featured but are just sitting there. Why not add a section in between nominated and featured like a "waiting list," where articles that are clearly on their way to featuredom (such as Gerrymandering) get an area that acknowledges that they will eventually become featured and there is no need to vote for them anymore (maybe even include the date on which they will be featured)? I suspect such a section would free up a TON of space for the articles with only several votes, but which are caught in the chaos. - Nonymous 15:33, 8 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Well, there aren't any set voting criteria for featuring articles. Whichever has the most votes when it comes time to change articles gets the nod (well, there are some exceptions to that, but in general...). Fortunes on VFH can change at the drop of a IRC comment hat, so planning ahead like that might not be a great idea. I have thought about it though, and at one point I instituted a similar quasi-policy for VFP, though that was mainly to keep me straight and didn't exclude upcoming images from receiving more votes. --—rc (t) 00:34, 9 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Trying to understand...

OK, I'm going straight to the source because I'm trying to get handle on why the two images that I self nominated were revoed by you so quickly from the VFP page. Do you not like me, my work, or is my whole book of work so terrible that I shouldn't even try anymore. Seriously, I want to be a good contributing member of the community, what does it take and what do I need to do in your estimation to get there? Prettiestpretty 15:01, 12 Jan 2006 (UTC)

It's nothing personal at all. Nominations are removed based on the votes they get. Generally, a -3 is enough to remove. Once there are a significant number of votes though, a 0 is enough. Your images weren't bad. They were simply a touch esoteric. Also, featured images should be funny instantly, without much thought. Your Gang of Four isn't, because it takes consideration and is a touch hard to see. Babe Vigoda is a fine image and great if it's understood, but not everybody knows who Abe Vigoda is. So that's why they failed. Don't take it personally; you're a great artist! Keep trying and I'm sure you'll get an image featured. Unless you're Kakun... =] --KATIE!! 15:08, 12 Jan 2006 (UTC)
Esoteric as in too deep? Katie, thank you sweetie for the encouragement, Hugs, Prettiestpretty 16:09, 12 Jan 2006 (UTC)
As Keitei said, -3 is usually the point at which images are removed. It's certainly not personal, it's just that at that point it would be very difficult for an image to gain enough support to be featured. For example, I think your Gang of Four image was at -5 votes (one For and six Againsts). It would probably have taken more than fifteen straight votes For to make it a competitor for highlighting (that's just an estimate based on recently featured images) and based on the initial voting, that wasn't likely. Babe Vigoda had been on VFP for about four days and had a total of -1 vote, but thirteen people had already cast their votes, and we don't have that many voters in total, so again it's unlikely that the picture would have gained enough support to be featured. I didn't remove the nominations because I voted against them, I removed them because enough people had voted against them that they probably wouldn't have made it to the front page. I try to be objective in removing nominations. If you think the removals were unfair in comparison to other removals, please let me know why.
As for your body of work, I'm honestly not familiar with what you've done outside of the images you've nominated. I guess the best thing to do is look at the previously featured images and articles and see what they did. Also remember that only a small fraction of the images and articles made for this site get featured - we have close to 19,000 articles and only a hundred-odd of them have been highlighted. (Of course, the vast majority of those 19,000 articles are garbage, so your chances aren't actually that bad. ;) ) --—rc (t) 17:36, 12 Jan 2006 (UTC)
As I said to User:Keitei, thanks for taking the time to answer. And believe it or not, it did seem as you had something against my work - but that was just me projecting onto - not fair in the least. But thats my problem, you didn't give it to me. Once again, thanks for providing that insight. That you took the time to say something means a lot, and say even more about you personally - hugs, Prettiestpretty 21:42, 12 Jan 2006 (UTC)
No problem, I'm glad you asked me about it. I appreciate rational discussion, even on Uncyc. Well, sometimes. --—rc (t) 04:38, 13 Jan 2006 (UTC)
Well then can I ask in all sincerity is there a wiz bang medal that I get for trying hard and being sincere? I read some of these other users pages and there all decked out like Anna Nicole Smith showing off all her medals for being Anna Nichole Smith. Oh, shit, I made my needs known - thats why I always get in trouble because society tells us that women are not suppossed to not make to make their needs known unless we're on Montel or Sally Jesse Rottensmell. The truth is, there is rampant illicit award-giving here. Unless an award is on an admin's my userpage, don't trust that it is legit! As a matter of fact, I probably don't even know half of the awards people have created over the months, though I remember the goatse ninjastar. --—rc (t) 00:55, 14 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Me Again

Can you take a look at this image and tell me if I'm on the right path? Image:Deviledeggneg.jpg Prettiestpretty 19:14, 14 Jan 2006 (UTC)

You must remember that I'm the one who featured Euroipods on the front page. Are you sure you want to trust me with a qualitative judgment? (Just kidding, I like it. And sorry it took me so long to respond.) --—rc (t) 03:37, 16 Jan 2006 (UTC)
