Grueslayer?[edit source]

Your attention to the Game namespace is frankly amazing. It needed help and you (along with some others - Lollipop and Another n00b i believe) came along and helped it. Now we have a fresh new namespace main page AND a better way of keeping track of games. I was wondering if you would like to join the Grueslayer team with me and a couple others. I'll be going through the game tomorrow and possibly Saturday, doing the first part of the plan i've laid out for the revitalization of Grueslayer. It's your call. --Trar (talk|contribs|grueslayer) Mchammer.gif 15:20, April 7, 2011 (UTC)

I'm only here a small amount of the time now a I have started a new role, so have very little time to dedicate to the site. What I was trying to do is set things up so that the games could be condensed to reduce the amount of pages required for a game to minimal amounts. What I'd do to plan out a game is firstly to plan it out - what locations will they be in? What items can they have? Is the direction they are facing of import? I'd also look at the interface itself. Game:Alone in the dark was created to have a unique interface (for UnGames) and is part of the reason why it works so well. Map out what you plan to do and what storyline(s) the character can follow. A single page can have up to 212 different variations without having any random elements, so feel free to be creative. Pup 10:45 07 Apr '11
So what you're saying is that we should plan ahead and decide what we're going to do in advance. That is certainly a good idea; I think the fact that we played it by ear so much was what led to Grueslayer becoming stagnant. I also respect that you won't have much time to edit Uncyclopedia; the choice to join the Grueslayer team is entirely yours (we'd love to have you though!) --Trar (talk|contribs|grueslayer) Mchammer.gif 14:50, April 8, 2011 (UTC)

Bots[edit source]

Hi. It's been a while since I editied, but you probably remember me from the dent I left on the wiki. Just pitching an idea out to you, tell me if you like it. In the spirit of all of Wikipedia's image copyright snob bots, what if I used AWB (if possible, otherwise some other method) to track down all people using, say, the copyleft image license on the upload form and posted a message on their talk page congratulating them for breaking the law? Or reamed them out for using the legal ones? What do you think? —DCCLXXVII (complaintsresumeMUN.pngPcg logo.jpgUC-Army-OF1d.jpgWPUMFGoogHelpAWAWA) 05:55, April 21, 2011 (UTC)

Give a Dog a bone[edit source]

Hey, Puppy. I haven't really seen you doing that many edits as you used to. You should come out from behind that hedge and start pissing behind fire hydrants editing again. The Old Man and LV, sepia[edit source]

Hello stranger, I see from the above comments that you are working way too hard at some job. Maybe you can quit that now, and get back to the important stuff. Like, importantly, could you work your sepia magic on The Old Man and LV page with the feature notice on the bottom and the "Feature" flag across the left-hand corner globe (hell, why not make the Uncyclopedia globe and the word Uncyclopedia sepia too!). Is any of this possible, and, if so, can you wand it? Thanks. Plus, are you going to use your winning gif in an article? I have an idea for a unnews article which could use it, and maybe a collab would work if you don't have immediately plans for it. Now go back to work, your boss or that cute coworker at the next oar might get suspicious soon. Thanks. Aleister 22:08 23-4-'11

If he's busy, i'll gladly do it. I like sepia. Although it isn't my favourite colour, purple is. --Care for a lick? Lollipop Care for a lick? - CONTRIBS - WRITINGS - SHOP - Now adopting! - 22:30, 23 April 2011
Ya, busy. The article idea was a parody of the lego website using Escher-esque images. The reason I abandoned/postponed it is there're already a few guys making Escher Lego stuff that I stumbled across, so it loses a little in translation due to unoriginality. Having said that there are a couple of subpages of mine (User:PuppyOnTheRadio/Lego and User:PuppyOnTheRadio/Lego2) that are my preliminary sketches that I may eventually finish off, but creating the images and getting the look of them right is a pain. I am starting on another piece at the moment which will be my next UnDebate, but as people have already said, I'm a busy and important man at the moment. Pup 02:04 24 Apr '11
The idea I had was a page or an UnNews on the rumour of the discovery of the Higgs Boson particle by the Large Hardon Collider. The lego thing could be a magnification of the Higgs Boson, the God particle. And Lollipop, sure, appreciated. The logo thing that says "Featured" and the feature box on the bottom, if they could be more sepiaized, great. Thanks. Aleister 22:04 25-4-'11
Great idea - go for it. Also I felt that the Muhammed picture could do with a different angle for a sequel, so I threw together an image yesterday with the sausage that I've added to psyche, but I'm sure it could be used elsewhere as well. I've just had a look at sausage and that's a page that could use more of a pearl necklace kind of approach. Pup 01:02 26 Apr '11

My kind does not do beer, but we are on the Right Hemisphere. Usually.[edit source]

Something about the housewifery thing. I do drink mead. And other brews. As long as it is not caffeinated... (but don't tell anyone else that I'm dreaming of coffee. I might end up getting very woozy from the smell of a fresh Arabica brew... Mmmmm... AHEM!) ^_^ -- DameViktoria Heart_anim.gif Grew up with a butler, cook and a nanny, she qualifies, doesn't she? - (Contribs) - (Talk) - (Block log) 04:52, 1 May

Funny you should say that as last night I found myself drinking Black Giraffe which is a dark bitters that is brewed with roasted coffee beans. Has a lovely caramel/coffee flavor to it while being a smooth beer. Of course, I usually drink Trappist beer, as most Australian beer is weak, watery, overly carbonated stuff that should only be used in bread dough. Pup 07:32 01 May '11
(Note that the continent may not match, despite falling within the same "hemisphere" at times...) I'm slowly coming to terms with being destined to be a "Microsoft widow", i.e. someone whose spouse works long hours. Stay-at-home spouses in that geographical area are either MS or Boeing widows... It's not as dull as it sounds. I sort of need the time off... I finally get to catch up on all those missed episodes of Monarch of the Glen on Netflix and up my gamerscore and such... (I spend on average 45 minutes at the gym per day, though. Gotta stay fit somehow!) And when I say "fit", it means my heartrate doesn't exceed 140 when the treadmill thinks it's giving me its "cardio" resistance... *rolls eyes* -- DameViktoria Heart_anim.gif Grew up with a butler, cook and a nanny, she qualifies, doesn't she? - (Contribs) - (Talk) - (Block log) 05:30, 2 May

AbbA[edit source]

Your "Thinking Back" page, please mainspace it. I've been putting in a backwards logo, and your page is better than the other backwards things, so why not. And I just saw your note above (I forget where I leave messages sometimes all the the times), and that would be fun, thanks. What's the File name? (unless it's on the post, I'll read it again). Then you can go over the UnNews and add to it if you'd like. Thanks againt! Aleister 19:48 10-5-'11

I've missed seeing this fot the last two days due to my e-mail being stupid. I have no objection with it going into userspace, but it is a bit of a n00bish article. By that I mean it's all style and no substance, which is noobish for me. (I still think Vitiligo is a better article of that type.) Pup 02:47 12 May '11
Well, it's fun to look at anyway, so I'm glad to know where to find it. And what is the file name of that Escher cube? I'll work up a news page and then you can add to it if you'd like. And how's work? I heard a saying once about too much work and no play makes something something, but can't place the source. Maybe if I type it 20,000 times it'll come to me, and will start doing that later today. Aleister 17:02 12-5-'11

Sorry seems to be the hardest word[edit source]

At least in person. Typing it is pretty easy though, so rest assured this isn't very difficult for me to do. I was re-reading my response to the forum last night, and it strikes me that I used somewhat inflammatory language that you didn't really deserve. For that, I apologize. I think, subconsciously, I may have been acting as if Lollipop had started the forum, as Lollipop was so busy handing out compliments that I forgot he actually didn't have anything to say aside from "yeah, Puppy, you tell 'em!" Anyway, protecting forum pages is usually done when conversation was, as you say, exhausted. Naturally, that's the opinion of the protecting admin, with which many might disagree. That's why their talk page is the proper place to bring it up. And before it festers within you to the point where you feel compelled to start a forum. That's all I'm saying.~~ Sir Ljlego, GUN  [talk] 17:04, June 13, 2011 (UTC)

It's all good. I had the misfortune of being an admin for a month, and hated it constantly, so the last thing I wanted to do was come across that I was attacking anyone. Of course, I failed in that dismally, so sorry if I did appear to be attacking you in a passive aggressive manner. Pup 10:06 13 Jun '11

ParsingOnTheDiscordianism[edit source]

They've made some sort of changes here on the way code works, and it's completely screwed up a section of Discordianism. I checked through the history and found that versions that used to look right now looked screwed up too--there's a bunch of red letter "failed to parse" lexing errors. Two things...[edit source]

One, you should really fix your signature. It's quite... tall. Stated maximum is 15px, and no superscript, but it's as if you have a 16px image superscripted. Now I doubt that's what you're going for, but it's rather messing up the line heights, so please fix that.

Other thing - share links. As I know nothing of these things, I'm asking you - are these links right, and are these even things folks would be likely to use?

Thank you for your consideration. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 09:58, 20 June 2011

Okay - it should be a little tidier now. As for the rest - I don't have a presence on all these sites, but those I have work, and those that I haven't been able to test appear to be fine. As for people using them - I have used these widgets on sites in the past, and worked for a short while for a marketing company that talked a lot about presence on the blogosphere, and I can see the benefit in assisting others to advertise on our behalf through word of mouth. Think of it like a modern day equivalent of bumper stickers. Pup 11:04 20 Jun '11
Shiny. Mind, I also meant the ones themselves - I stole the bulk off the spanish one, which stole most of theirs off the polish one, so I'm more paranoid than usual... none of them look weird, then? People are likely to find a use for all of them? You've at least heard of the ones you don't actually use, yes?
Also, what do you think would work better, putting them on the sidebar or as a drop-down from a tab? With the tab, mind, there's this slight issue in which I have no idea how to do that that actually works. Slight issue. Sort of works I can do, of course, but something tells me a side-wide dealy should more than sort of work. I don't suppose you could make it work? 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 13:17, 20 June 2011
I noticed the inciclopedia thing and then forgot about it. And pull-down menus I'm also at "sort of works" myself. Of course, I'm known for implementing sort of works solutions in the past and then fixing them later, which is why I'm not a professional coder. Besides, we want to make it as easy as possible to post links. A one click and you're done approach is always better. And I have heard of all of the above except the spaces.live one, but I'm assuming that's simply another blogging platform. I've used tumblr, wordpress and blogger in the past, but honestly there are so many blog hosts around it would be stupid to try and cover them all. Twitter and Facebook are the two main ones though. Pup 07:42 20 Jun '11
What in the world are 'pull-down' menus? If you mean things folks'll have to click on to even show, that's what it would have to be on the sidebar simply for lack of room, but at the top, why would anyone even do that? That's just silly. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 02:00, 21 June 2011

Possibly. Grueslayer is slightly different, in that it's a parody of Zork, which was a text based game that had the line You are most likely to be eaten by a grue repeated constantly. In the original game there was a sword by the name Grueslayer. As a stand-alone game Grueslayer is an Uncyc original, and technically a breach of copyright - the term grue is a registered trademark, or something like that, but we're protected as parody. Given Codeine's Mom isn't around to ask, this term pops up all over the place on a google search, is not on it's own in Wikipedia, but Wikipedia does have an entry on Zork. This would probably scrape through on the UN:CM guidelines, but to be honest I'd still lean away from the link as that site appears to be trying to take an Uncyc in-joke and make it its own. With no attribution they're actually working against CC-BY-NC-SA, and as such I wouldn't encourage that by linking to it. Pup 01:33 27 Jun '11

omg!!!! msRebeccaBlack 11:32, June 26, 2011 (UTC)

Urgh! Deprecated code and open tags. Try to avoid <font>. It is old HTML and not pretty. Simple text sizing is either <small></small> or <big></big>. If you are wanting more control use <span style="font-size: x%; line-height:100%;">. The line height is useful for over 100% sizing. There is also {{big}} for larger font size which is useful. Also, if you open a tag, make sure you have a closing tag. And I'd avoid more obscure UTF-8 characters - not every character is supported by every font/browser/OS. Oh, and WTF? Pup 02:10 26 Jun '11
Omg sorry I totally forgot about lineheight. Ah oh also, since you seem to know how to use html and styles and stuff on wikis, how do you use the hover function? I mean like in css, you can do like .abcde:hover{} or something like that, yeah? :D msRebeccaBlack
Theoretically you can't. Realistically there is an option of <span class="sigexpand">normal text<span class="sighidden">text that pops up</span></span> which allows some hover functionality. That gives you this:
normal texttext that pops up
If it's used with positioning you can add a little more functionality. Pup 12:55 28 Jun '11
I should add a couple of things to this. It doesn't work well on all interfaces - the main exception is iPhone (which I'm using now).  If you make the sigexpand portion a link it seems to work better - even as a Redlink - but it then involves two clicks to navigate to the link. So for instance that above doesn't work on my phone, but if I were to do <span class="sigexpand">[[UN:HAX|link text]]<span class="sighidden">text that pops up</span></span> I would get:
link texttext that pops up
Which works, whereas the above doesn't. If you want to have it positioned so it doesn't push out trailing text, then you could use positioning. So <span class="sigexpand" style="position:relative;">[[UN:HAX|link text]]<span class="sighidden" style="position:absolute; top:-10px; left:0px;">text that pops up</span></span> gives you:
link texttext that pops up
That link will give you a few more options. Lyrithya also created a template recently that is designed for pop-up images. I don't recall what it is off the top of my head as I've never used it, but that may also be helpful. (She and I disagreed on some of the elements of that template, and I've never bothered to use that when I have other options available.) Also, despite the fact that the coding is fairly insane, I used this, along with {{CGI}} - or rather {{Get}} - and a few other tricks to create the main interface for Game:Alone in the dark. Also check out God's answering service for more on how to use CGI. Also, I'm 99% sure that you're either a sockpuppet or a name change. What names have you used prior on Uncyc? Pup 01:25 28 Jun '11
Ah. It was {{PopupImage}}. Pup 01:31 28 Jun '11

YouTube in UnNews stories[edit source]

I have to admit, this is the first time I've seen it. However, I decided to userspace your story, pending discussion, for 3 reasons: 1) It's very bloggish. While I see what you're saying with the video and I see the humor, it's still almost an attack ad against Tony Abbott, making it difficult to justify it's spot in UnNews. 2) Uncyclopedia has its own YouTube channel - maybe this would be a better place for your video, as opposed to the thus far text and non-moving picture based UnNews. While I'm all for pushing envelopes and defying convention, if there's a side-project made specifically for videos, why not use that? 3) It's little more than a mash of interviews with Mr. Abbott with questions thrown in between. I've gotten on Funnybony for one of his stories that was basically a copy/paste job from the source story with a couple of one-liners thrown in, and this video was much like that, so I'm taking the same approach to the two.

I'm more than willing to talk about the story, though, but those are my issues with it. Please let me know what you think. ~ Humbuck.png Talk 17:58, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

  1. I disagree. Humour is a subjective thing, and as you said you can see the humour. This is obviously not taking a neutral point of view, but by the same token Uncyclopedia never claims to take a NPOV.
  2. UnNews is the framework for topical, news related articles. Carbon Tax is extraordinarily topical in Australia. The only reason this is hosted on YouTube is technical - MP3s can't be hosted here, and the size of the file as an OGG prevents it being hosted natively. I'm working on trying to reduce the file size at the moment, but as topical is a tine based thing, trying to get this on here quickly was one element that I've taken into consideration.
  3. Yes, this is a mash up of interviews, where information has been gleaned from a number of sources (5 of them were used, to be exact). There have been a significant number of articles and news pieces that have done the same. UnNews:McDonalds should be boycotted is a similar vein, being that it has been done as a spork of a blog, but presented as UnNews as the most fitting framework. Taking information out of context and putting it into a new context is a huge part of satire
Mainly, though, I have only ever had one thing user-spaced after I have put it in main space, and that was due tonne creating an article that was very similar in feel to an existing article. I have been working on pushing envelopes constantly relating to what we have on the site. UnNews is a framework of a parody of news reports - moving to to be a parody of AV as opposed to print media is an obvious step - more people watch news then read it. If I were looking at stopping myself doing that, then I wouldn't have created Microsoft knowledge base, Game:Alone I'm the dark, Chatroullette, etc. I disagree with every point as to why you've done this, and I am going to move it back. If you want to move it back to userspace then I suggest that you put it through as a VFD vote, and bring it to community consensus. If I'm wrong, then I'm happy to move this to a different namespace one we have feedback from others. Pup 12:40 13 Jul '11
