The contest is happening now. Make sure you list your article here and here before 18:00 GMT (17:00 UTC).

Hi again everyone. I've had a couple of requests to confirm a date for the European hourly writing competition so I'm going to get the ball rolling on that now. I am hoping to have as many people as possible take part so I'm not going to set an absolute date for the competition yet. My provisional date and time is Wednesday the 30th of March at 14:00 GMT (13:00 UTC).

If you want to take part and can be around on that day at that time then sign your name below and if enough people can take part we will have the competition that day.

If you want to take part and can't do that day or time sign the appropriate section below and if a lot of people can't do it we will have a rethink. --Chiefjustice3DS 22:31, March 23, 2011 (UTC)

Chief could you please propose a time say, on a Tuesday for example between 1000 and 1200 or on , say a saturday anytime between 1700 and 2000? This will get participants. Maybe propose the thwo and chose the one who gets the most? --ShabiDOO 17:34, March 27, 2011 (UTC)

I can take part at that time

Lyrithya, do you live on this side of the Atlantic? Am I the only person who finds it strange that the hour is set during European working time? --ShabiDOO 21:23, March 25, 2011 (UTC)
Very strange. Could make a decent time for an Asian dealy, which would explain why it'd work for me, since that seems to be how my sleeping patterns have gotten of late, but... it says 'European'. What's with that? 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 21:39, 25 March 2011
Shabidoo, some time ago you were asking me whose signature yours reminded me of. If you look around on this page you'll find the answer. --Black Flamingo 21:40, March 25, 2011 (UTC)

  • Ehm, thats kind of working time isnt it? Lunch hour time is better (like 12.00 or slightly earlier) though wouldnt be able to vote for anything afterwards) or after working hours which can be as late as 20.00 for mediteraneans including me! --ShabiDOO 21:31, March 24, 2011 (UTC)

Yes it is. Also (for those who are wondering) the original time was set because I will be coming off night shifts in the middle of this week. Not because I am unemployed. --Chiefjustice3DS 22:31, March 27, 2011 (UTC)

  • I can do it, although I'm very confused about the timing; I thought GMT and UTC were the same (give or take a couple of seconds)? We had this discussion last year. I remember it, so that's proof. --Black Flamingo 19:25, March 28, 2011 (UTC)
I don't know if anywhere else does daylight savings time and whatnot, but in the States EST and PST changed recently while UTC remained the same. Maybe that's why? Jackofspades.png (talk) 19:27, March 28, 2011 (UTC)
GMT was the same as UTC until daylight saving time began yesterday; causing GMT to move an hour ahead of UTC. --Chiefjustice3DS 19:34, March 28, 2011 (UTC)

Instructions

Since some of you still seem unsure of the way the competition should work I shall explain the steps here (times are in UTC so if you are in GMT add one hour to the times shown here. If you are in EST: hard cheese.):

  • At 16:00 you create and write your article, you should create your article in mainspace not userspace.
  • At some point between 16:00 and 17:00 you add your article to the list below along with your signature.
  • At 16:30 the VFD contest page will be unlocked, add your article as you would a normal VFD nomination. Do not vote for other articles at this time you should only vote to keep or delete your own.
  • At 17:00 all articles will be locked, no exceptions.
  • Between 17:00 and 18:00 vote to keep or delete the articles on the VFD page. Everyone is expected to participate in this round of voting.
  • At 18:00 the VFD contest page will be locked and the articles there will be kept or deleted.
  • All surviving articles will be unlocked. Feel free to ask for your article to be restored to userspace if it has been deleted.
  • At 19:00 there is a big fight round at mine for anyone who thinks they can take me. Cake may or may not be provided.
  • At 20:00 we all continue to live our lives. All except for <insert name here> who doesn't have one.

List of articles

Once the competition begins please list your articles below. You should also nominate your articles here. --Chiefjustice3DS 11:34, April 2, 2011 (UTC)

Wait...

I can do the writing part, but I can't do the VFD stuff. Will anyone do that part for me? --Wanna see a magic trick? 13:47, April 2, 2011 (UTC)

The articles are the most important part, we'll still have plenty of people voting. Just nominate your article and we will do the rest. --Chiefjustice3DS 14:03, April 2, 2011 (UTC)
Okay. --Wanna see a magic trick? 14:47, April 2, 2011 (UTC)
Hey, is it okay for me to upload images that I'll need before the contest? Just so I won't have to do that instead of writing. --Wanna see a magic trick? 15:02, April 2, 2011 (UTC)
Wouldn't that suggest you'd already started working on the article? --Black Flamingo 15:36, April 2, 2011 (UTC)
No, I've been thinking about it, and I've got a fuzzy idea in my head, I just don't want to waist time that I could be writing. I may not even post, but I think I can. --Wanna see a magic trick? 15:40, April 2, 2011 (UTC)
My guess would still be no. Don't worry so much, just have fun and see what you can do in an hour. --Black Flamingo 15:43, April 2, 2011 (UTC)
I know what I'll be doing. --Chiefjustice3DS 15:45, April 2, 2011 (UTC)
For a whole hour? Mrs Chief is one lucky guy. --Black Flamingo 15:47, April 2, 2011 (UTC)
It doesn't take a whole hour, but it usually takes about 45 minutes to peel all the oranges. --Chiefjustice3DS 15:49, April 2, 2011 (UTC)

Competition close

Sorry I'm a bit late in getting here, had to dash off shortly after finishing up with the articles. Thank you to everyone who took part, always good to see some writing going on. Also we got a few new articles out of the competition which is exactly what we were aiming to do in the first place. I hope everyone involved enjoyed it, we didn't have quite as high a turnout as I was hoping so I hope it wasn't any less enjoyable for that. If this is something you would like to do again please let me know and I will set another date/time/place/reservation at a swanky hotel. --Chiefjustice3DS 11:47, April 3, 2011 (UTC)
