UnNews:EON Productions defends controversial casting of eleven year old girl as James Bond[edit source]
It's funny, when I said I didn't know what it meant, I was thinking you'd probably get a kick out of it. As for longer stories, I guess I've been a bit overwhelmed lately, with real world concerns bearing down on me, but I've tried in the past to record almost everything, and I'll probably get to your unread stuff eventually, so take heart... perhaps a beefheart. Thanks for your warm words on my dubious talents. Rev. Zim_ulator (Talk) I am the dirt under your rollers 02:34, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- I love beef hearts, very chewy, but sadly I am dieting and trying to cut down on meat, particularly the organ meat. Sadly, this could lead to some very angry unnews postings . . . or maybe that's a godd thing. I guess time will tell. --Hrodulf 03:44, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

You might find the code on this page interesting: User:Tooltroll/Temp ••••• I my cat! 14:51, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- That is interesting, I didn't know how to code one of those. I think I like my userbox format the way it is, but maybe I could find something else to do with it. Thanks for pointing it out. --Hrodulf 17:45, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

True aspie[edit source]
Methinks our best course of action at this point is just to ignore him, as he's a loser (no social skills, and isn't trying to learn them, either), a liar (no such forum as he claims to be a part of exists, he isn't an aspie "truth-seeker" [or he would have known AS is a form of Autism instead of disputing the point], and a million other things on that wacky, moronic page he's bloated), and has lost, utterly. He will never get his way, so he's calling out individuals, using childish names and the like. Ignore him. Most of the admins have taken to using this strategy against attention trolls, and it works remarkably well. You won't convince him of anything, he's just trying to get under your skin. If necessary, keep off that page and start specializing in Tooltroll's masterwork.--<<>> 19:02, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- I was more concerned that other people would think I was intimidated by Slashy, than what Slashy thought. That's why I went after him, because he was calling me a coward and I was afraid that if I didn't flame him, other people on the site would think he was right, that I was afraid of him, and I didn't want people to think that. I think now that I've undeniably let him have the worst I had to offer, I can rest assured that nobody will think that's the case, so yeah, probably at this point I can leave him alone and not worry about people thinking I'm a wimp or anything like that. He's not under my skin, but like I said, I don't want people to think I'm a coward, like he was saying I was. And I think I've dispelled any reasonable probability of that. --Hrodulf 19:09, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well, the reason I brought it up is that he was coming after me pretty hard earlier, and it was pissing me off, so I stepped back and let others handle it. As I said, this person is a troll, and is taking a combative stance almost against everyone about every thing. It's pathetic, and we're better off ignoring it, in the end, I think, but do what you want. It IS fun to call a loser a loser, after all. ;)--<<>> 19:19, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- You're right, and like I said, I think I can let this be forgotten now. That's actually what I was trying to accomplish with my "Final Message" schtick; it was only Slashy's serial verbal attacks and claims of cowardice that required me to respond to dispell any notion that he was right. --Hrodulf 19:37, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- I just hope being ignored doesn't send him on a desperate vandalism spree in an effort to (re)gain attention. As you say, Brad, you stepped back and let others handle it, which still kept him occupied. If nobody steps into the breach, it'll no doubt occur to him to get his attention in another way. If I were him, I'd back off for a few days, then repeat the whole process in another fashion, taking "offense" to a different article, say. Then we'd be stuck with another 200+K forum page when all the bleeding hearts try to continue reasoning with him ad nauseum. Not that reason shouldn't be the first response, but there's got to be a point when we stop coddling idiots like this. I'm not going to slip my leash just yet, but if and when I do, I'll be turning it up to 11, and anybody with a weak stomach best stay away from that page. . . ••••• I my cat! 09:47, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- I think there's a case to be made for either approach. Hopefully Slashy will just decide he has better things to do. The problem is, it's actually possible that he doesn't. --Hrodulf 12:41, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well, FOR EXAMPLE, I had to stop myself putting "get over it" all over that forum discussion Today, as he has taken offense to that particular phrase. Because, really, all that is is feeding the troll, no matter how much fun it will be. Yes, ignoring him will cause him to go on other vandalizing sprees, BUT he won't have his soapbox anymore, and they'll get reverted quickly, leaving him even more frustrated than before, as his words won't STAY. It's the best course of action for attention whore trolls.--<<>> 14:09, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- I think you're right, Brad. I'll try to remember. As I've pointed out before in the forum, I'm only human and therefore not perfect. But you're probably right, in a final analysis. --Hrodulf 14:59, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Funny, I also want to do a thing about how Uncyclopedia had good aspies defending it, but do a whole x-men movie thing about how anon had a gun that could take away people's aspie powers, to make fun of how he kept saying we weren't real aspies because we dared to have an opinion that was different from his . . . I definately want to work on it and will try to get something in there today, at least in terms of the writing. I'm tempted to use this as inspiration in terms of style and format, since it's a little known war, and it's an opportunity to learn more about it. --Hrodulf 14:01, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- This is going to need more work to not be QVFD worthy though. I'll try to do more. --Hrodulf 14:24, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- One idea I just had: part of this should be a war game. You know, like Arab-Israeli Conflict (video game). Could help the funny and we can use real forum quotes and make fun of how stupid they are. --Hrodulf 14:48, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

You know what you did! Heh heh heh. ••••• I my cat! 09:51, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Lol, cool. Btw, I'm taking a crack at trying to figure out why your nationality userbox isn't displaying properly. I'm guessing it may be the userbox size or something. I'll see if I can get it to work on my userpage test page . . . I don't really know wiki html so whenever I do something like this it's pretty much trial and error . . . . --Hrodulf 09:53, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- Odd. . . It looks ok to me. The only rendering problem I've had is some of the thumbs in my gallery, and elsewhere, display as blanks intermittently. But the Canada userbox renders ok as far as I can tell. By all means, tweak it if it resolves rendering issues I'm not seeing. ••••• I my cat! 10:01, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- It's not in the same vertical alignment as the rest of them, it's sticking out to the right. I'll upload a screenshot and show you. --Hrodulf 10:02, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- I've had this happen before, where I saw a problem and someone else didn't, and I don't know what the reason is, but I'll try to fix it. --Hrodulf 10:06, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- Tres bizarre! Feel free to check if I've implemented it and/or the "frame" thingy I contain them all in, and correct it if necessary. . . I'm doing this all by trial and error as well, and might have mucked something up in my userpage code. ••••• I my cat! 10:26, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- I got it in the box now, but there's a big vertical gap between the CanadianUser template and the one below it, so I'll try to take care of that. But it's getting a little closer. Don't ask me how any of this works, I just tweak code until it looks right. --Hrodulf 10:30, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- I saw the vertical gap manifest there at times, too. It also does it beneath the "pyro" box. I looked over the code myself, but couldn't see any discrepancies.
- This is the render prob I spake of earlier. . . sometimes it happens, sometimes not, but always with pix I've uploaded, and usually the same few out of twenty or so: The anvil (almost always blank), the "fat chicks" sign (hardly ever anymore), and the "fat chick anatomy" pic (off and on). I've just chalked it up to some weirdness in my cache. <paranoia>Maybe it's Slashy, hacking into me! Aaauugh! Must. . . save. . . data. . . >YANK<oiuh5ggtiuh5b5kbi NO CARRIER</paranoia> Heh. ••••• I my cat! 10:43, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

- I don't know about the missing pictures; that doesn't seem to be a wiki coding thing, so I have no clue. I tweaked the canadianuser code a little bit and that's what got rid of the vertical gap. If when you code a template you put "subst:" in front of the name of the page you're templating in, you will import the template code onto your page. Useful for stuff like this. For more information, check out this and this. --Hrodulf 10:48, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

- I'm sure it's just some "undocumented feature" in IE. A question: Was it only on my page that the Canada userbox rendered weird? What I'm wondering is if we should just tweak the actual template code itself, rather than paste a customized copy on my userpage. Thoughts? ••••• I my cat! 10:57, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- That's a good point and I'll check, but it may have been the framing on your page that was doing it. Still, it's possible both your code and the template were a little messed up. I didn't change it much, all I really did was take out a blank line that was creating the gap. --Hrodulf 10:59, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- Saw you updated the code. It looks correct now. Keep in mind as your userboxitis gets worse and worse, try to follow the format of putting those little "|-" symbols between your templates and putting the "|" at the beginning of the other lines. I don't know exactly how or why it works, but it helps. And when a template is acting weird, like the CanadianUser one was, use subst: and edit the code until it works for your page. A few of my templates were partially customized by me in this way (for instance, my NY user template has the state flag as well as the city flag, and I changed some of the option commentary.
- --Hrodulf 10:53, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, I never bothered checking what they were, I just figured out they worked from other people's userpages so I used them also. Took a lot of messing around to get it to work, especially with the custom userboxes. As for the canadianuser template, it's ok on Todd Lyons's page, so I think we can leave it alone. I don't know why it wasn't working on your page, if you want you can experiment with replacing the imported code with {{CanadianUser}} and seeing what happens. --Hrodulf 11:02, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- I tried doing that on the test page, and it made the gap come back. If I were you, I'd just leave it alone. It works and having the actual code gives you more options to personalize it anyway. --Hrodulf 11:04, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Like I said, I don't know a lot of wiki code, but I do know a little bit about how to do userboxes. For my contributions, I usually don't do anything elaborate, just text with a standard photo link. So I guess it will be awhile before I actually learn how to do a lot of stuff here, but that's ok. What's the hurry? --Hrodulf 11:13, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- I have to log off now, real life. See you around. It'll be interesting to see if Slashy actually hangs around over the next few days for more of this insanity. Oh well, the internet is weird sometimes. --Hrodulf 11:34, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

- Someone on dA posted something in their journal about Bush and I wanted to link to my unnews articles about bush, but because dA has these stupid smilies the urls were corrupted because they had :O and :P in them, so I had to move the pages, and to follow the double/broken redirect rule I needed to access your archive and get rid of the broken/double redirect links created by the moves. Uncyclopedia:How To Get Started Editing[edit source]
Ok, it's tit for tat time. I won't write as copiously as you in this feeble attempt to heap praise on your person, but hopefully we'll approach some level of parity in the pursuit of mutual praise-heaping. Ignore the drivel I just said, it's stupid. Anyway, thanks for your additional kind words on my efforts in audio.
I do want to say, I've never scrutinized Uncyclopedia:How To Get Started Editing before, but it's an invaluable source of information and you've done some brilliant work with it. I haven't spent much time learning about the architecture of wikis, but it's something this document has helped me with immensely. Nice work, dude, and I look forward to your future contributions. Rev. Zim_ulator (Talk) I am the dirt under your rollers 13:05, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, what I tried to do there was, whenever I learned something really useful, I put it there so everyone could benefit from the information. Part of the text there is actually not written by me, but yeah, it's mostly me. I'm glad you liked the article, it was a learning experience to write it.
- About "heaping praise," if you don't want me to drop you a note whenever you do an audio, let me know, and I'll do it, say, on occasion or something like that. I made a habit out of doing it, and it had its place, but now that you've done quite a lot of them, I can understand how maybe it could be getting a little annoying for you. I'll still give you credit for whatever you do on my userpage, of course, regardless. I do have a tendency to overdo things on occasion; nobody's perfect.
- --Hrodulf 14:34, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
- No, nothing like that. I appreciate all criticism, and I was just using the words "heaping phrase" because I'd never used it before, that I recall. I'm a phoenetobetic: certain words and combinations trigger a pleasure response, and others just... well, most others, just don't strike me at all.
- Also, I had a ball with Fred Phelps. It's always a pleasure to highlight is bat fuck insanity, and by any means of communication. I wonder if some deaf publication has it, where a peron would sign the words in the Fred Phelps article. Does a deaf person hear their own laughter? NO! They're deaf, stupid! (sorry, it's just that I have to be harsh with myself whe I mess up, so I'll remember... head like cement, I've got). If we don't have a Fred Phjelps category, someone has to make one. Thank you for your kind words for both the edits and the audio. - You're welcome, and thanks for the kudos. It's funny, I wasn't even trying to come up with an idea, and this just came to me while I was boiling water to make some orange jell-o(tm). I was thinking about all the muppet fans in the muppet central forum, writing post threads dozens of pages long about "why is there no new Mokey plush? How come Mokey isn't on the cover of the DVDs? How come Mokey's performer isn't in the making of documentry of the season one set? Why does everybody hate Mokey so much?" and it just struck me, wouldn't it be funny if they got really mad, and threatened to do something? From there it was just a little step further towards the particular insanity I unleased on UnNews this time.
- Part of the fun of this was I wasn't even planning to write it; it just happened. Who knows what will come out of my brain next time? Crazy.
- My personal favorite part of the piece is Bush's reaction, accusing Osama of trying to drive a wedge between the Red fans and the Mokey fans by inciting a flame war over "who's hotter." That was inspired by this thread by the way (if you want, you can check out my reaction on the thread here).
- Thanks once again for the work on the article. By the way, if you have an idea you want developed, let me know and maybe we can work together; some ideas work, some don't, but I'd like to buck the uncyclopedia belief that collaboration doesn't work so well here. Just an idea . . .

OUCH story[edit source]
As much as I hate sports in general, this story made me piss myself. It was a pleasure to do. Thanks for your support and encouragement. Rev. Zim_ulator (Talk) I am the dirt under your rollers 15:51, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- I felt since you did such a great job, you deserved some insight into what the creative process behind the story was, if for no other reason than perhaps persuading you that I was not clinically insane . . . .
- Thanks a lot for the glowing review; sometimes my humor is hit or miss, but occasionally it seems I do manage to come up with something that at least someone else may possibly find funny. I think it was accurate when I said once (not on uncyc, another forum) that you probably need to have 100 bad ideas to just have one good one, and you're lucky if you can improve that ratio. It's probably a matter of practice like anything else.--Hrodulf 15:53, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- By the way, while I was doing hunting research online for this, I found this interesting description of a traditional Eskimo method of hunting polar bears. It's particularly cruel to the animal, but fascinating as an example of human ingenuity:
"Killing a polar bear without a rifle
This is a traditional Inuit method for killing polar bears, Ursus maritimus.
Materials: Harpoon, knife, firemaking items, sled with dogs, saw for making an igloo.
Step 1: Wait motionless on the ice at a breathing hole of a seal. When it comes up for air, harpoon the animal and dress in the normal fashion.
Step 2: Take two straighter seal ribs (15-20cm) from the more posterior part of the animal and carve such that all edges are sharp.
Step 3: Using firemaking items, render some seal blubber into liquid.
Step 4: Soak ribs in warm rendered seal blubber such that they become flexible.
Step 5: Before ribs cool completely, bend the rib such that convex side becomes concave and the rib is "folded" in half. Note that the rib is flexible but elastic and will go back to its original shape.
Step 6: Using seal sinew tie ribs into folded conformation and place outside in arctic air until frozen
Step 7: Take folded frozen ribs cut off sinew and pack in a ball of chopped blubber and snow just large enough to envelop the rib; about the size of an orange.
Step 8: Place several blubber/snow/rib balls on the spot where the seal was butchered and build an igloo somewhere nearby.
Step 9: Wait for a polar bear to come and eat the blubber/rib balls. The dog team will let you know when the bear shows up. The bear will swallow them whole as they are frozen but have the tasty smell of seal blubber
What happens next is the blubber balls thaw in the bear, the ribs straighten out and perforate the bear's digestive tract.
Step 10: Track the bear with the dog team until you find its carcass. This may take up to a week. Care should be taken when eating polar bears; the liver of the polar bear is toxic and should not be eaten and the flesh may be septic when killed in this manner therefore it should be cooked thoroughly."
Amazing what people can do with almost nothing when survival is on the line.

Hya, Just to let you know that I wasn't offeded at all...I do honestly believe and use UnCync as a pressure valve - the humor helping the everyday crazy life around here.
As for the matter on hand, we have to be optimistic and keep hoping that one day this conflict will be sloved - for both parties involved. The whole damn region is a paradise waiting to bloom, if we just stop killing each other. At the moment, unfortunatly, we'll have to keep bombing the shit out of anyone who denies our right to live....
Oh, and thanks for the code alteration, I would have promoted you to an Honorary Jew but I saw that you're the real deal :). Thanks again!

- You're welcome; it was an easy fix. When I started here I learned the userbox format from other people's userpages; I hadn't seen someone do it the way you had. It would have probably worked except for some of the templates being different sizes or something. I don't know.
- Obviously it would be nice if the war was resolved; I've said more than once that the reason it hasn't is the Arab extremists won't accept that they lost and move on. They think if they keep the pressure on they can win in the long term. It's ridiculous, but that's what's propelling this. --Hrodulf 12:57, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
User:Hrodulf/HowToRef2[edit source]
You should subst that type of message in, with {{subst:User:Hrodulf/HowToRef2}}. Might be easier to propose a change to {{Welcome}} though. --Splaka 03:56, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- What does subst mean? And I'll take changing the template to the village dump if you think that's a good idea.--Hrodulf 03:58, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- substitute, it places the contents on the page. Go back to each page you added {{User:Hrodulf/HowToRef2}} to and paste in the code {{subst:User:Hrodulf/HowToRef2}} instead, then view the change in history. --Splaka 04:08, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, if as a result of the village dump forum, we don't change the welcome template, I'll do that.--Hrodulf 04:24, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

- Good point, it will be easy to go back and make the changes, since I can use the "what links here" page. However, I'll hold off until we reach a consensus on what to do to avoid doing something that may have to be redone later. --Hrodulf 04:30, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- As the welcome template is subst'd in, the changes would only affect future placements of it. --Splaka 04:28, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- I've noticed you placing your fake template again (I thought you were going to hold off until consensus was reached). Please subst: it if you are going to continue to use it on user talk pages. The main reason is, it is very annoying (and confusing to noobs) to have welcome messages as unsubst'd templates. Lets say this user goes to edit his talk page, he might wonder where the text of the welcome message is. The other reason is, user space templates shouldn't be highly used like that. --Splaka 05:49, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- It was stupid of me to forget. I will archive the code so I don't fall into the trap of using it again. --Hrodulf 12:06, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, all of the code, and the references to it from the menu, are in the template graveyard now.
It occurs to me that I don't have to stop communicating with the n00bs though, I just can't use the template: I can still cut and paste the actual code itself, without actually invoking it as a template. So I'll try doing that so I don't have to stop communicating with n00bs.
Since nobody has discussed this question in the forum for awhile, unless someone with the authority to do so is going to place the relevant code into the {{welcome}} template on their own volition, it's probably going to go in to subst: --Hrodulf 12:18, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

- Since the forum was stagnant, I changed my mind and decided to just go ahead and insert "subst:" into all the pages I previously edited. I am confused, however, as to why signature templates are linked, if this is the policy, rather than using "subst:" for them also. Perhaps this is a change that ought to be considered, if code used as templates on user subpages are an issue.

- We actually should use subst for sigs, but that is a totally different matter (has to do with server load issues, but it won't affect us until we get a bit bigger). The reasons for substing welcome messages are not the same. --Splaka 01:48, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks for explaining. This wiki stuff is very, very complicated. . . . I'm just glad I got my sig template to have an automatic date and time stamp. Thanks for the help with teaching me about subst: by the way, couldn't have done it otherwise --Hrodulf 01:51, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
You've Got Hal[edit source]
Mr. Hrodulf... I just wanted to compliment you for your tremendous skill at Hal impersonation. Your responses to both of my questions were highly rereadable and most humourous. I know you keep suggesting somebody else take a crack at it, but you're doing sucha great job that I'm enjoying sitting back and watching (plus maybe I'm a bit lazy). Anyway, here ya go...
Job Well Dude… Your rug really tied this room together. Thanks. |
Thanks for the laughs. --Imrealized 07:50, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad you like the article. Like I've mentioned before, writing the answers has given me a lot of insight into Hal.
I think a big breakthrough was when "Hal" recommended that someone who was in a life and death situation should address the problem by sending some punch cards into the main office: where you and I see an emergency, Hal only sees a potential malfunction that has to be addressed through the proper channels. Assessing the situation, he wrote off the human user as an unavoidable loss, and focused on figuring out what the malfunction was. This is parallel to his under-estimation of Dave Bowman's ability to survive in the movie.
Of course, another important question was the "meaning of life" question. Hal's literalism comes through here, as one of the interpretations he gives the question is asking for "the semantic content of all awareness that ever existed, or ever will exist" or words to that effect (I'm paraphrasing). Only a computer could so literally parse the concept of a "meaning of life (or awareness, as Hal puts it)." Another bombshell is Hal's answer to the question, which is basically "Avoid making errors." If he had been properly programmed, the meaning of Hal's "awareness" would obviously be to serve humans, but since he's a non-asimovian AI, he doesn't have the three rules, so when push comes to shove, if the humans get in the way of his goals, it's astronaut killing time. Again, completely parallel to the events of the movie.
In everything I've done with the article, I've tried to provide a Hal 9000 experience that was authentic to 2001:A Space Odyssey as I could, with reasonable allowances made for the fact that Hal's character and motivation are subject to varying interpretations. I've tried not to push my own interpretation too much, but I've hinted at it.
I dislike the conventional view that Hal was driven insane by having to keep the mission a secret, and I prefer an interpretation of the movie that involves the jupiter monolith hacking Hal, and creating the false AE-35 diagnostic warning. This forces Hal to kill the astronauts or face disconnection. I also base this interpretation on the fact that Hal suggests to Dave during the "open the pod bay doors" scene that Hal plans to complete the mission without the human crew, which would have entailed Hal being the intelligence that encountered the aliens, and became the starchild. Perhaps this is what he was aiming at all along. There's a symmetry here between the first monolith sequence making the apes fight and develop weapons; now Hal, hacked by the monolith, has been forced into a similar life or death showdown with humanity to reach the next level of intelligence. I prefer my interpretation because I feel it makes more sense given the themes of 2001 of trying to evolve into a higher form of life (amounting to becoming god, it seems). This is also the main reason I dislike 2010 because they spoonfeed the conventional wisdom about why Hal killed the astronauts down our throat, which I feel is a much less interesting explanation for the events of the original film. - One thing I never figured out is, before the "Jupiter Mission" sequence of the movie, are any of the characters we see in the earlier scenes the hibernating astronauts we never meet because Hal kills them? There's a brief scene where Heywood Floyd is talking to some astronauts, and I've wondered if those where the guys who went into hibernation (which was to ensure they wouldn't reveal the secret mission, of course). Another thing I'm curious about is the removed scene that Kubrick destroyed the print for. I know no copy of the film exists, but I'm wondering if there's a script of it preserved? It could be interesting to see whether it reveals his intentions at all (which may be why it was destroyed, rather than merely cut from the final print).
I know about the missing scene because I found this image of it online at http://digilander.libero.it/stanleykubrick/2001/images/cut-scene1.jpg:
:Intriguing and frustrating, no? I should write a script for the missing scene as a gag, but it'd be too much of an inside joke, I think, unless I did it on the Ask Hal talkpage or my userpage.
--Hrodulf 10:01, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- I've heard rumours of burned prints and deleted scenes, but that is my extent of my knowledge on the subject. I like the idea of writing the script for the deleted scene; your point is valid that it may be too inside a joke, but I also think that perhaps there are several people here who should not be underestimated. It probably wouldn't be featured (though I could be wrong), but it could be funny. I was thinking about this the other day... 2001 - A Space Odyssey may be the only case (or one of few) where the film far outshines the book. I'm a big fan of questions, but a little apathetic toward answers; my opinion of the goings on may change each time I watch it. There are so few films where the answers aren't spoon-fed down our throats, complete with mock airplane vocalizations. Same with books, which is why I'm sucha big fan of Finnegans Wake. And the cyclical nature of existence is explored in both of these pieces, as it is in Dark Side of the Moon. Wow, that's rambling. But it is great to see somebody inject an amazing amount of thought and knowledge into an article/column here, which makes it all the more humourous. You've definitely impressed me. --Imrealized 10:46, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
My rough idea for a gag would be to have all the unresolved questions in the movie wrapped up in the deleted scene, and have all the explanations be really stupid. I don't have a good idea for it yet really, and may not even do it, but you never know. --Hrodulf 10:54, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
I feel out of the loop[edit source]
Wow, I get caught up in the land o'da real for a few days and missed out on this whole Benson saga. I mean, I've been around, but just not really. Funny stuff. I like Benson and everything he is doing for this site, though admittedly I will not be writing in all caps (I choose the equally annoying loads of emphasis route, myself) as a show of support. Are they really trying to permaban him or is this part of the joke? It gets a bit confusing when the admins themselves admit that banning can be completely arbitrary; evidently they see scads of humour in this, which I can respect. Just as I expect them to see and respect the humour in people like me pointing out their gross and utter failures as human beings. That's comedy.
A 2001 original comic? What a great find. As I've probably said already (sometimes I repeat myself repeat myself), the vast spectrum of possibility in interpreting 2001 is, to me, one of its finest qualities (and it has many of 'em) and the main reason I find it wholly superior to the book series. Maybe Hal's malfunctioning was caused by the monolith, or the programming conflict within Hal's directives and mission objectives (did I state that correctly?.. probably not, but hopefully you know what I'm talkin' bout), the confluence of dark matter and opaque matter, indigestion or Satan. Personally, I think it's a bit of each, being much more entranced by questions than I am of answers.
Better watch out - pointing out logical and social inconsistencies to admins is like a one-way ticket to Pariahtown (population: me). Don't worry, you're always welcome. --Immy 11:36, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
Welcome Back[edit source]
Its been oh so quiet without you.....hope you enjoyed the break. :) -- Sir Mhaille (talk to me)
- Thanks, and sorry I wasn't around much; I got married on June 18, got back from the honeymoon about a week ago, and have sort of been otherwise occupied with un-uncyclopedia type things. However, I doubt it was really that quiet, with Benson around and all . . . --Hrodulf 10:05, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- Congratulations....I'm sure all that at Uncyclopedia wish you all the best. Nice to see you on IRC too. :) -- Sir Mhaille (talk to me)
- Thanks again for the kind words. I like to go into the irc channel because occasionally from talking I come up with an article idea; I also used to irc in college, so it has a sort of nostalgia value to do it again.
- I also like #uncyclopedia because I've found that most of the people there seem to be pretty intelligent, and I havn't noticed much of a troll/spammer problem in there (like there is in so many other irc channels), so it looks like I've been pretty lucky to stumble across this whole setup.
- So far, aside from the occasional rough area (which I've tended to learn from and hopefully avoid repeating), I seem to have managed to get along with people here, which is also fortunate. On the whole, the site and the channel have been a positive experience for me and I'm glad things seem to be working pretty well, and that means something, since in the past I've tended to have catastrophic problems getting along with people, both online and offline. I'm hoping that I've grown out of that phase, but you have to maintain a high level of situational awareness, or you can slip back into it without warning. You have to always try to see yourself as other people see you, have that objectivity, or you could be sawing away at someone else's last nerve and not even realize it. Part of life and maturity, I suppose. Anyway, thanks again for the kind words. --Hrodulf 15:08, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Why[edit source]
Why do you have my article on your User Page test? --FlareNUKE 03:06, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

How do I get some of those spiffeh buttons on my page? Like the ones that say New York User and all that. --Totally Clueless 21:33, 9 July 2006
- The New York template was based on the actual New York template; I modified the existing code to display the state as well as the city flag, and changed some of the slogans a bit. The code's a little long, but here it is:

A lot of my templates were modified by me so only exist on my page (such as my "What Would Orko Do" template, or my 2001:A Space Odyssey related "Caution Explosive Bolts" template). I recommend you practice making your own templates, or modify ones that exist (as I have above), since they will reflect your personality better and get you started learning how to edit code. Follow the instructions at How to make your own userpage userbox templates. Let me know if you need any more help with this. --Hrodulf 02:47, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks[edit source]
Yeah... I was just generally whining about the culture of 'awards' that is (mockingly) rampant on this site (and is usually the mark of the nastiest, most close minded and egotistical admins). I may be wrong, but for 'learning curve' I am reading ~ 'in joke acquisition'. I am a noob, there is no doubt about that, but deleting peoples honest attempts at humour (however lame) seems a silly policy to me. The argument that it 'was not a proper uncyclopedia article' seems deeply suspicious to me. Anyway, please ignore my ignorant ranting... I will read the docs you suggest. Thanks for the pointers. --Dmb 21:15, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- If I may.....I won't comment on your first point, but in relation to deleting contributions that are "not proper uncyclopedia articles", if you read the guides within the Community Portal, as well as the useful one created by Mr Hrodulf himself, you'll see there are certain standards for additions. Admins, though we often work in different ways, are here to work as quality assurance. Our main concern is to make Uncyclopedia a funnier place, but there are certain rules within that. Some Admins also look to be helpful in working with beginners, and in making borderline articles into something decent. Hopefully you can see why the policy exists..... :) -- Sir Mhaille (talk to me)
- I've been registered since february or march of this year (don't remember, could check but don't see the point) and I'm still learning a lot. The most important thing is patience. --Hrodulf 02:42, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Skeletits[edit source]
Cheers for the good words about the Skeletor page. You, as the main author, were the one I wanted to piss off the least, and I said in the talk page there, it looks like is was written good, but got ruined by later editors, and just got stupid. Anyway, if you're ok with it, I'll just go ahead and change them over. Superbo 20:31, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Actually what happened was there was a one paragraph stub that I added a bunch of stuff to that was mostly written from Skeletor's perspective, including a reference to the CKY video and some computer tricks Skeletor allegedly played, including getting He-Man listed on CVP on uncyclopedia. That was a joke about the famous penny arcade comic where Skeletor vandalizes He-Man's wikipedia article (the joke being that on uncyclopedia, he goes even farther and gets He-Man onto Constantly Vandalized Pages).
- I recognize that people probably didn't get the joke and some of the material probably was stupid (although I think Man-At-Arms' e-mail address being man@arms.com was sorta funny). I'm just not attached to the stuff at all since it was just some weird crap I wrote that I thought was funny, but probably nobody else would agree, so I really don't care that it's been replaced. Like I said, I may be able to find a way to work some of the funnier material back into the new article, but generally I think the style is an improvement.

What would you think about adding the How To: Get Started Editing on Uncyclopedia into the FAQs of the Welcoming Committee pages? -- Sir Mhaille (talk to me)
- I'm happy with putting it anywhere that will help it get traffic and therefore be more useful, and will defer to more experienced people than I as to where would be the best place for the links to go. --Hrodulf 22:41, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Link updating[edit source]
Is there a reason you're updating every instance of HowTo:Get Started on Editing Uncyclopedia? That page already redirects to the proper article. As it's going you're reviving lots of dead Forum topics and sort of spamming recent changes. —rc (t) 07:34, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
"
- Comment I'm in the process of updating the links for the page move, but the welcome template still doesn't have a link. I'm a little unclear on how voting works, is this vote over? Or does something else have to happen? --Hrodulf 13:27, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- I declared it over. Spang added the link. We're super efficient. Since you're in charge of updating links, check here. I guess the redirect can stay for a day or two longer. 2/11 02:40

"
That's why. And if you think I want to do it, you're crazy, but I don't see what my options are. It's my mess and I have to clean it up.
--Hrodulf 07:36, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- That doesn't make any sense. What is the problem with leaving the redirect? I'd be happy to protect it so that it stays in place, and it'd be a lot less disruptive than resurrecting Forum pages and triggering false "new messages" messages on people's talk pages. —rc (t) 07:39, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- As I noted above, Famine told me to fix the links. If you want me to stop I'll stop and you can discuss it with Famine. We changed the namespace and he wants to avoid the double redirect which is against site policy, I imagine. But like I was saying, if you want me to stop, fine, but you have to take it up with him because he told me to do it and I don't want him to think I'm slacking off on it for no reason. --Hrodulf 07:41, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Otherwise, I have only about 47 of them left to do and they're simple ones. Shouldn't take more than an hour. It's up to you, I'll do whatever you want. --Hrodulf 07:43, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see how this would create double redirects. Wasn't the page only moved once, or am I missing something? If I'm not, than yes, leave off and I'll take the blame if something goes wrong. I just don't see that it's more logical than disruptive and I don't know why Famine told you to update all the links. —rc (t) 07:47, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Roger that. --Hrodulf 07:53, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- All right, I've protected the redirect so nobody mucks with it. —rc (t) 07:57, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Blame me to some extent - Hrodulf's tinfoil hat blocked my mind-rays which indicated that I was only talking about those links on userpages and other places where people would still see them. I sorta-figured that nobody would look through old dump posts and accidently click a dead link if I whacked the redirect. Eh, all solved now, methinks. Good work everyone involved. I need to go drink and watch hockey, so I'll leave you to it. 2/11 22:55

It's not a "inevitable, unfunny, disproportionate and predictable reaction" (well, it was predictable) from the "mindless wasps' nest", it's that funny is serious, if silly, business and we don't need our valuable time being wasted by unfunny. Unfunny is for ED.--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 05:43, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- I didn't nominate the image, Nin did, and I originally just commented that voting for it was probably ban worthy. Although I didn't originally plan it that way, I ended up taking advantage of the situation to criticize the practice of nominating people for GotM for "stupid" votes, as well as general criticisms of people for voting as they did. I think I succeeded in doing that. As for whether the reaction of a ban would have been mindless, inevitable, unfunny and disproportionate, since I havn't been banned as of this posting, I've been proven wrong, and I'm glad about that fact. I genuinely wanted to test this place to see if a few relatively mild words could lead to a ban. It was a test and so far, the site has passed. As for Tompkins' premature cancellation of the test by deciding that for the first time in Uncyclopedia history (to my knowledge) a user is entitled to three votes, I have decided to enshrine his creative mathematics on my userpage in a userbox memorializing this historic bending of the rules and number theory.

- The odd part is, if it the pic had been well done I probably would've voted for. Not that it would have helped...--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 05:55, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

- I knew the picture never had a chance to win, it was a poorly edited image I created months ago in a matter of seconds. At the time I was wondering how to make the image look like it was sewn on but I couldn't even begin to figure it out. In any event, "this was a test". Disregard all klaxons. --Hrodulf 05:57, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- Do you mind if I have a go at improving the pic? I've got an idea for a cheat that will make it a stupid amount of work, vice an insane amount. Not promising anything, but I'll try, if you don't mind.--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 01:41, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- You can try if you like, but keep in mind that putting that picture on VFP was the absolute last thing on my mind when I created it. But you are welcome to work on it, if you want to. --Hrodulf 01:44, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Well, the cheat I'd originally planned on using, while it would've been a perfect badge, would have taken about a hundred hours to make...(make a 3x1 thread...lighten one end, darken the other...colour match to BOTM. Repeat about three hundred more times...).
So, instead I went another way...it's pretty badgy. Pass it around, see what the other Bensonites think. Or don't, it's all good. --Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 02:01, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- It's a huge improvement, and I'll start a BHOP thread for it. Thanks for the great work on it, it's super! --Hrodulf 02:04, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your support, Hrodulf. It won't last, but it's time to cut the bullshit around here (not to mention the racism), and if they're not going to do it, I at least have to try. c • > • cunwapquc? 07:40, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- I'm only in favor of racism on uncyclopedia for the purpose of making fun of the false idea of racism, personally, but that's a subjective judgment sometimes. --Hrodulf 10:32, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
