Undicness
Gutentag. I've adopted you as my patron saint of Undictionary gospel (1). Lucky you! Request for Comments:
- I've been adding MTU left and right to appropriate new articles (see contribs), in the hope of them improving (a few have) rather than just move them right away.
- Good idea I've been thinking of making a Work In Progress template, maybe that you have to sign or that automagically inserts the time ("This is work in progress, this template was placed XX:XX on XX/XX/XX if it's been more than Y days then it's probably been abandoned and cane be deleted") maybe have a play as it's a bank holiday weekend.--Sir Elvis KUN FIC Bur. | Petition 22:51, 26 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- I've been slowly picking at the list of Category:Move to Undictionary looking for the oldest ones that haven't been updated.
- I've been removing {{dict}} tags from articles in the improper namespace via stalking Category:Undictionary.
- I haven't been looking for Undic namespace articles that should be moved to cyclo, but I see many that could.
- This is a tough one, Undic is really User:Carlb's baby I dunno if it's worth stalking his contribs and seeing if he has set any precedents (may be a lot of work however), Also I think he removes all Categories when he undictonaryifies (might be worth checking if this is true) which means that moving articles back into the main namespace should in theory mean adding cat's to them as well.--Sir Elvis KUN FIC Bur. | Petition 22:51, 26 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- I notice that all the Category:Undictionary entries are under U, couldn't one manually force them into alphabetical order with {{dict|namewithoutundicnamespance}} Automated?
And I think I did some other stuff too. Anywho, I'd like to know if I've been doing things right, if I should modify my methods, or if I need a flogging by Flammable. Thanks! --Splaka Bur. SG CM © 22:34, 26 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- I didn't create the original Undictionary, but did enlarge it somewhat by using it as a dumping ground for substubs too short to be full articles. I normally do remove any extra templates, categories, image tags and the like before moving something to Undictionary (as a dictionary definition is just a short one-paragraph chunk of text to be inserted automatically as part of a larger page, Undictionary:A-Z). The {{dict}} tag is then removed, the article renamed to remove "Undictionary:" and the category tags re-inserted when moving an item from Undictionary back to the main article space should it expand to more than a short ick!tionary definition. Forcing the entries to not all be under 'U' in the index may be a little awkward, as the robot script just generates the 26 main pages (each a list of the individual definitions, using templates) based on a "what links here" query against template:dict. If there's more than one version of template:dict, the script would need to change to adapt. --Carlb 04:34, 29 Aug 2005 (UTC)

- No it's a Cato (the elder I think) reference, he (apparnantly) also finished his speeches (no matter what subject) with and furterhmore we should destroy Carthage, given my comment on the VFD I though it appropriate. My vote shouldn't count for anymore than anyone else's in VFD/VFH/VFP, etc. --Sir Elvis KUN FIC Bur. | Petition 23:46, 29 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Actually, I find that our tastes run near each other. If you say "it must go", it holds more weight for me than if, say...wait - it doesn't matter. I mean, check the VFD history - how many times have I ever voted against deletion? I think I'm for deletion 97% of the time. I figure Uncyclopedia is like a Hydra. If the head is ugly, cut it off, and you'll get two more to choose from. If those are ugly, cut them, off, two more, etc. Once you get one you like (cute lips, sexy fangs) keep it. It's like a dangerous form of lottery.
And as for Cato, this learning crap is BULLSHIT. I do NOT come here to get some god damned fragment of a history lesson, only to have to look it up in wikipedia and learn more. What the hell is wrong with this site? Uncyclopedia...furthering my education? God...at this rate I'll be writing useful articles or some crap like that. That's it. You seem like the kind of guy who'd know about this. Is there a specific command/procedure for archiving, or is it just a case of picking up the old stuff and creating a new page for it called Article:(Archive)(Page Number)? Confused n00b
Well, I just seem to have won Noob of the Month. So like, I am confused by the internets thing here (and my Yamaha cup holder is broked!). This says my user page shouldn't contain Sir, yet this says I can use it as a pre Nominal (but I don't see any other Commanders using it, and only the two top ranks are Knights). Is there like, a special reward given out for figuring all this out?? Anywho. Lemme know how the 'Sir' works (like, who can use it in their sig (although I did get that foreigners can use them, and I've always felt a bit british (Monty Python and Little Britain! And Reginald Perrin, Douglas Adams, Pink Floyd, The Who, Applie Pie and Haggis! Wait...)), but can non-knight Commander?), I want the lower userbitches to call me sir if I can get away with it, but not if I have to be a "writer of the month" or an admin, that involves work! - Thats my fault I rather arbitarily decided that Commanders could ue sir as well and oviously didn't get all the places it's referenced, Aftersome playing it was found that it was better just to add the sir to your sig rather than move your user pages as the wiki got a bit confused. Signatures not working on own pages
I think it has to do with the way MediaWiki implements links that basically link to self. Eg. If an article was called "Fisting Mofos Of the Universe", then placing [[Fisting Mofos Of the Universe]] in said article will get you a piece of bolded text rather than a link that is pointing to where you're at. This too foxed through me for a while when I was testing my sig. I could never figure out why it went bold instead of acted as a proper link - then I realised what was going on. Placing the sig anywhere else works. --IMBJR 19:31, 4 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- As suggested above the problem (i had) was that no part of the signature showed up, Splaka however fixed in and thinks it may have been a caching problem. Cheers for getting back --The Right Honourable Maj Sir Elvis UmP KUN FIC MDA VFH Bur. CM and bars UGM F@H (Petition) 19:34, 4 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- What clued me in was when I was testing the sig on a (preview of a) page that already contained the sig and it wouldn't update, but would in other previews or if I previewed just a section that didn't contain older expamples of a sig. What I did then was removed the 5 red links of Elvis's sig (the first of which was used before he'd created his /sig folder, which it seems was causing all future references of his sig to be redded too, lazy mediawiki), and it worked. Or something. No idea why. --Splaka 04:13, 5 Sep 2005 (UTC)
mtu abuse
Man, what is with all the short articles today. I just MTU tagged like 50 pages. I hate to put so many on the already bloated VFD (and some are too good for QVFD). What do you think about having any MTU that haven't been moved or expanded in 7 days (and that no admin feels like MTUing themselves) just get huffed? Or is that too harsh? I think you need some more admins (not me). Or you need me to stop MTU/QVFDing. Muahaha. Anywho --Splaka 07:48, 12 Sep 2005 (UTC)

- Some awards allow you to use Post nominals (i.e. letters after your name) the same way having a university degree does (B.A. with Hons. for instance), the Vicoria Cross being one of them, the "and Bar" bit refers to the fact that if you are awared a second instead of wearing two medals at formal occasions there is a bar placed on the ribbon the medal hangs from, thus the Post Nominal is "VC and Bar". Not sure what you mean by commonwealth titles the Order of the British Empire (which I shameless ripped) off is a Chivalric Order (i.e. a Order of Knighthood, although only the top 2 ranks are actual Knighted and thus able to use the Pre-Nominal Sir/Dame). The queen can also raise someone to the peerage or nobility, (i.e. Become a Baron of Somewhere or a Duke of Someplace for instance) in which case how you are addressed can get (even more) confusing.--The Right Honourable Maj Sir Elvis UmP KUN FIC MDA VFH Bur. Promotion of Codeine?
While cruising the OoU, I moved User:IMBJR up to Commander because of his Featured Picture. But, I also discovered something else. According to this, apparently anyone can give any admin the Template:Deletion Award, which then promotes them to Knight/Dame Commander. Battle of Orgreave
I really enjoyed the Battle of Orgreave article. It fits in very well with the Disney Empire saga. It is a bit on the British side of things, but I think we Americans can enjoy it well enough.
There should be a directory of the large sagas and memes scattered within Uncyclopedia. The Disney Empire and Bloodbath come to mind (those are the ones I have been most involved in), but there are other ones like Oprah, The Yuletide Testament, and Kittens which have a substantial number of articles. Some of these memes are even reasonably coherent. It may help newbies to work within some of these memes. They are good starting places, providing structure while allowing some imagination—a good playground for the beginner. --KP CUN 22:58, 27 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Wow, you need an award for award-handing-out-manship (how about a Major Award? heh)! That was a lot of work! And yay, I Kun now! Teehee. Any serfs to beat up? Also, I was wondering, someone can get made an OUN, yet there is no badge for it (notice my "awards" section on my page, I just used the OUN template), do you think it needs one? - Awesome work :) I've often thought that this whole badge system as fun and fufilling as it is, might be a bit to formal for uncyclopedia, also, but then I realized, wait! Its fun, its silly, and its not like we take it any more seriously than just proving that we've done more stuff for Uncyclopedia, so then I stop worrying about it. If we start acting like elitist snobs because of it, then its a different story, but right now, its so formal its satirical, and we all know that its just for fun which is what this site is about. Also, I think Cookie Monster should stay as an award, because it was the first of the general awards. Or maybe we could make it a dead award, which cant be given anymore, as more specific awards take its place? Gordon Flash - thanks, but...
Hello Elvis,
- thanks for the explanation... I've already thought that moving to the Undictionary doesn't mean the article is a slut, ops, slur. But I just couldn't figure out WHY the Gordon Flash should be moved to undictionary if it isn't neither a word explanation, neither, at least as my sense says (if you say I'm non-sense I'll be satisfied :), so little, nor not expected to grow (and neither a slur!!! I'm not the author of that article, so you can say it's a slur!! Go, say it's a slur! :). Since marking a article as a candidate to undic. is a adm. task, answering to me isn't so important (when I wrote to Splaka I was thinking if I should mark Cancún as candidate to undic, but now I know I mightn't...), but thanks in advance if you do...
Ah, holy will be the day when the muse takes me instead a lot of dirty neurons flooding my head : )

- Anyone can place the {{mtu}} tags on a page if they think it would better fit in undic, it's just that Admins seem to do it more often (usualy because they have been here longer and spend more time patrolling the new pages list so come across likely candidates more often), hell anyone can suggest a page for QVFD or VFD, move articels in and out of Undictonary equaly anyone can move an article from QVF to regualr VFD if they think it needs more discusion and argue for keeping it. The only thing users can't do is physicaly delete pages as they lack the required rights within the software but thats just a technical matter rather than a cultural/organisational one here. --The Right Honourable Maj Sir Elvis UmP KUN FIC MDA VFH Bur. - Write some full length articles (that at a minimum don't get qvfd'd and/or VFD'd).
- Constructively edit existing articles.
- Be funny.
- Take part in the community, Village Dump, etc., vote on VFD.
- Help in the "maintenance", reverting vandalism, reporting offenders to Uncyclopedia:Ban Patrol, Moving stuff to/from Undictonary, expanding/rewriting QVFD'ers.
- m:Don't be a dick.
- Invent fun "toys" for uncyclopedia (useful templates, procedures, etc).
- Do all of the above for at least a month.
- Wait until there is a call for more admins.
- Get yourself nominated and/or self nominate your self.

Template:Jingoism
Great template - I do like it. The problem I'm having, and I'm guessing you had it too, due to the bizzare coding of it, is that the image really needs to be the background for the template. Currently, with my browser +resolution +fonts I have text spilling off both sides and the bottom of the flag image. I hunted around, but didn't see any way to make that happen inside the wiki markup. Figured I'd bring it up in case you had any ideas, or anyone else who pokes their head into here did. -- 21:45, 9 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Solved logo problem
- (copied from Talk:Main_Page) Upon further investigation it turns out you apparently can't change a logo via javascript, but only via css. However, the css we were loading was offsite. So, I moved it onsite to one of the few places you can have it onsite, in a user's space: User:Elvis/memoryalpha.css (Elvis was the designer of the page). Then I edited it to show RC's logo, and changed the MediaWiki:Monobook.js to point to
/index.php?title=User:Elvis/memoryalpha.css&action=raw&ctype=text/css
(to load just the raw text) whenever any user was on (and using monobook of course). Phew! --Splaka 06:36, 24 Nov 2005 (UTC)
So, you can just create a new User:Elvis/whatever.css and conditionally linkifiy it via MediaWiki:Monobook.js if/then import. Enjoy. --Splaka 06:36, 24 Nov 2005 (UTC)

I noticed you undid my tags to CMG, GCMG and KCMG.
