Forum:Rating system
So, you might have noticed the rating system on the left there. It's a starting point for what many people have been asking for for a long time. Obviously the way it looks and works is subject to change, and there's still a few bugs that still need to be worked out. Other than that, it seems to be working well so far. Plans for what to add to it include being able to disable it, a mini version in tab form (maybe), pretty graphics instead of text stars (could be something other than stars, of course, Wildes, or potatoes or whatever). At the moment only logged in people can see it, but that should change. I dunno if IPs can vote or not, but they should at least be able to see the ratings. Probably.
Anyway, comments and suggestions are welcome. Rate away! • Spang • ☃ • talk • 03:41, 11 Mar 2008
- Let me be the first to say FU SPANG. -- 04:19, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- I concur with the above statement and encourage everyone to give Spang's userpage one star. —rc (t) 04:47, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- I agree lets change "Poor" rating to "FU Spang"--Scott 05:24, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- I certainly have no complaints, except that I'm wondering how exactly Spang's userpage has an average rating of 306783380.3 (no kidding, that's what it says as I'm typing this). Sir Cs1987 UOTM. t. c 05:26, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

- Sweet job, this is just what we need :)
- Um, how does it work Spang? How you going to stop people spamming the system? /me nips off to write some .js.. MrN 08:31, Mar 11
- It's just a JS frontend for the wikia voting system thing that's been possible to access on here for ages. Just nobody did anything about it. The massive score on my userpage thing is a bug I'm hoping to see fixed, but it's a bug at wikia's end, so I can't do anything about it for now. • Spang • ☃ • talk • 12:11, 11 Mar 2008
- Doesn't JS mean Javascript? And isn't Javascript highly vulnerable to clientside manipulation? So, I could, say, use a bookmarklet to vote 5,000,000 on an article? Am I asking too many questions? How about now? --Syndrome 02:45, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yes. To all of those. Shh. But the problem isn't actually at the user's end, so it's nothing that I can fix. Which is why wikia needs to fix their system before we have this thing properly. And when articles start getting votes of 5 million, I'll know who to ban :P • Spang • ☃ • talk • 04:57, 13 Mar 2008

Is there any possibility of seeing the number of votes for a page? —rc (t) 15:48, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- Not yet anyway, but I'm hoping to get the wikia end of things updated to allow that. • Spang • ☃ • talk • 17:32, 11 Mar 2008
- Can we have the stars changed to Sophias? Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 08:13, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

- Looks about right. But, I don't have the right fonts installed, so I have yellow question marks instead of stars... - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon (Tick Tock) (Contribs) 18:54, Mar 12

Sorting ratings?
Is there a straightforward way to tie things into the rating system so we can call up a list of the articles that fall within a certain numerical range? I realize it might be too much of a pain in the butt for admins to work out and set up, but the dump seemed like a good place to bring up the idea. Verp 22:24, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Perhaps, but they'd need to take into account things like spam ratings and that, and they'd have to sort out that first before this.--Naughty Budgie 11:03, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- "things like spam rating and that" might be fun, too. Verp 21:35, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Rebel!
I say we vote '1' for everything. :P - Admiral Enzo Aquarius-Dial the Gate 23:30, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Just noticed...
After extensive research(logging out and then logging back in again to make this post), I have discovered that IPs cannot rate articles, or view the page's rating. If we really don't want them rating, could we at least make it so that they can see it? - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon (Tick Tock) (Contribs) 23:10, Mar 15
- ...Not nessecarily? I'd be more concerned about why the ratings just look like rectangles at the moment. – Preceding unsigned comment added by Naughty Budgie (talk • contribs)
- Are you on an old version of Internet Explorer? It's not down with shit like that. Yeah, I'm talkin' street. I got street cred, yo. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 01:10, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, that's on the list. Also, can anyone else actually rate articles at the moment or is it just me? Rate this topic something different, then load it again. Does the rating stick? Doesn't for me. And it's nothing to do with my code, it's wikia's side of things that seem to be failing for me. • Spang • ☃ • talk • 01:39, 16 Mar 2008
Ratings and Watch List
What effect do people adding their 2¢ worth have on watch lists? Verp 04:53, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe it should add the article to a category automatically.--Naughty Budgie 06:15, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- It doesn't have an effect on watchlists or anything like that. And adding a category automatically would be a hell of a lot more difficult than it sounds. And it would make the anonymous vote not so anonymous at all. • Spang • ☃ • talk • 11:14, 18 Mar 2008
Now with pretty icons
Hopefully. I tested it in all the browsers, it seems to work ok. Complain here if it's made it stop working. Which is likely.
Also, people who aren't logged in can see ratings now, but not vote. Hopefully this might encourage more people to get an account.
Also also, the bug that would let people add a vote of several million has been fixed. Hurrah! • Spang • ☃ • talk • 04:55, 18 Apr 2008
