Forum:Suggestion time
Hello.
Today I decided to take it upon myself to undelete a page which linked to a metric fuckton of articles and re-write it using the material that was given. Some of it was good and needed only a little re-wording, some was terrible and needed deletion and me writing my own material for it from scratch. What allowed me to do this was the fact I am an administrator and have access to deleted histories.
This got me thinking, there are people on this wiki that do not have access to these deleted histories but allowing them access could inspire massive re-writes of pages with masses of links that have potential. So I was thinking if it were possible (I assume yes?) to add a new user group that allows editors that have demonstrated they are good at writing funny material, access to deleted page histories and the versions that go with it. Note: I am not suggesting give them the powers to delete/undelete but the power to just check out deleted histories to make the call: "Can I make this work? Or is it utter hopeless and I should start again?"
Now I know hat you're thinking, admins can undelete on request. Well that is true, but as I already said: Sometimes it is utterly hopeless. I would be very much in favour of giving this to editors that are both funny and trustworthy (i.e: Know it is not a license to copypaste articles out without a substantial re-write).
So how about it? ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!) 06:00, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
Vote: Assuming it's practical to do so, create this new user group

- For. Yeah, sounds great, per what Frosty said. It'd make rewriting 100 times easier if we did not have to ask an admin to see a deleted version of a page. And the criteria for getting these rights would be to write a featured article? Anton (talk) 09:14, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
- For Sure sounds good. I think this idea was proposed when we were with Wikia but it was not possible to implement back then. I think it should be pretty straight forward now that we control stuff. -- The Zombiebaron 17:50, 16 August 2015 (UTC)

- For. Sounds like a good idea. It should be noted, however, that many deleted articles can be found at mirror.uncyc.org. This is what I've been doing to re-create articles - with a rewrite, of course (like this), or re-add content that was funny, but got removed for some reason (case in point: this article).--EpicWinner (talk) 15:29, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

Done
So it was good of everyone to not notify a server monkey that there had been a vote on something server-side until nearly four weeks after the vote passed. Anyway, this is done now. The new group is called 'thumbsucker'. If you don't like the group name, change MediaWiki:Group-thumbsucker to something you like better, like 'Supergayhomofagdicksucker' or whatever kids think is funny these days. ~ Mon, Sep 7 '15 20:18 (UTC)
- Another suggestion - would it be a good idea to make it impossible for brand new users to create pages? Meaning that they would have to make edits/reply to the welcome message before someone OKed them by making them confirmed? That might kill the spambots. Leverage (talk) 15:16, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
