Hurricane El Hormiguero (known only as El Hormiguero to Wikipedians) was the fifth named storm, second Hurricane, and second Category 6 hurricane of the 2007 Wikipedia hurricane season. Forming from a topical wave off of the east coast of Canada on September 4th, it continued south through the United States as a Tropical Depression before attaining Hurricane status over Kentuckistan. On September 7nd, El Hormiguero reached the Gulf of Mexico, taking a quick turn to the east, strengthening to a Category 6 hurricane after merging with a system low from Barcelona, then striking the west coast of Wikipedia on September 9th. At least 133 editors disappearances are being attributed to El Hormiguero, almost two thirds of the populace.
Wikipedia enthusiasts have considered El Hormiguero to be the love-child of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Dean.
Storm History[edit | edit source]
On September 4th, 2007, a topical wave moved off the east coast of Canada, and, encountering favorable conditions over New York City, quickly developed into Tropical Depression Four, The depression moved southward though the rest of the United States, and was upgraded to Tropical Article El Hormiguero at 1500 UTC on September 5th. The storm's intensity continued to build although dry Gulf of Mexico air and cooler air inflow from the north were slowing structural development. The formation of an eye wall prompted storm editors to rush to Wikipedia to await the arrival of El Hormiguero.
Intensification continued as it made an erratic turn eastward towards Wikipedia, as editors had predicted at Jordanhill railway station, with El Hormiguero reaching category 6 status before arrival at Wikipedia. This mass strengthening was prompted due to a massive long-lasting low from Barcelona, Spain that reached the western hemisphere. El Hormiguero also wiped out a smaller population of Kanab ambersnails during its journey in North America. Leaving Wikipedia, the storm quickly dissolved into a Tropical Article on September 15th, and dissolving into nothing.
Preparations[edit | edit source]
A Tropical Article was expected to arrive at anytime during the 2007 Wikipedia Hurricane Season, but many didn't know when it would occur. Tropical Storm Nagareyama skimmed Wikipedia previously, while Topical Depression SATD hit Wikipedia just 2 days after El Hormiguero.
Article futures in the Wikipedia index rose greatly due to the anticipation of El Hormiguero once it was on course for Wikipedia. Article creation amounts skyrocketed prompting an article traffic backflow on Wikipedia. Despite these preparations, mostly all citizens involved in the traffic backflow were hit by the effects of El Hormiguero.
United States Preparation[edit | edit source]
With El Hormiguero forming in Canada, the eastern states of the United States braced for the worst. United States Air Force fighter jets and relief craft were called to duty to help those affected by the storm. Altogether, $10 million of relief aid were brought together. The relief aid was able to help the sole victim of El Hormiguero, a chicken stuck in it's coop in Varney, Kentuckistan.

Spain[edit | edit source]

Aftermath[edit | edit source]
Most of the aftermath efforts were centralized in Wikipedia. President Jimbo Wales and his cabinet attempted to control the chaos caused by El Hormiguero, including searches for editors who mysteriously 'disappeared' after El Hormiguero appeared over Wikipedian airspace.
Elsewhere, damages caused by El Hormiguero's wind shears effected many individuals. The most common aftermath effects in places other than Wikipedia mainly comprise of Interstate congestion in the United States. Congestion was eased on the Interstate 75 in Georgia 10 days after El Hormiguero passed through the state, although the congestion resumed a day later when a distracting piece of tire rubber appeared on the side of the road.
In Mexico, an anthill was destroyed due to higher tides from El Hormiguero. 72 ants drowned due to efforts to save the hill.
