Well hello, Mr no longer unknown IP![edit source]
Hea! Glad you bothered to get yourself an account. It makes it easier for people on here to tell the vandals from the people who actually want to write.
First of all, I have replied here (on your talk page), not on mine where you left your message because I was not sure if you would have figured out how to use the "watch" page thing. You will figure it out I'm sure... ;) Watched pages show up when a change is made to them in "my watchlist"...
Normally it's best to reply to the person where they leave the message, and if you want to reply to this message, do it here...
Glad you started the Ethernet article, it needed doing. It's actually rather funny that you did, we almost deleted CAT5 yesterday, but I managed to fix it up before the Admins deleted it.
Ahh, the issue with "kittens or Grues"??? Like you said, they are VERY overused on here, and basically everyone is sick of hearing about them. Same goes for Wilde and Chuck Norris quotes as well as many of the other things that are splattered all over the site. We are trying to cut down on them. If your going to talk about them, try to make sure it's something really new or original. Also, it's a good idea to try to avoid writing stuff which is too random. Anyone can do that, and we have enough random stuff already... Try to keep it relatively close to the truth, and obviously as funny as possible. Actually, if it's funny do whatever the hell you want and people will love it!
I think what the article really needs now is some pictures! I'm guessing you're into your IT, so you will not be surprised to discover that usually the best way to figure out how to do things around here is to look at another article, and copy from where someone else has done it. You upload pictures using the "upload file" link on the left.
I will do a few more edits here and there to Ethernet, and I hope you keep working on it. The ICU thing on it is not an insult, just saying that it needs more work... Good luck! MrN 22:27, Feb 6
- Yeah,I am into IT... I'm a Network specialist/admin/technician, however you want to go, in training. As for kittens and Grues, Ill use them sparingly, but not never per se. (I rather like the idea of a Grue based ethernet standard...) Also, have you read RFC 1149? (Obviously I was influenced by that...)
- As for copying and pasting, that is generally the way I learn formatting. Im generally a fast learner... Most things on this site are intuitive. GrueGrewsome 22:50, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Cool. I think your going to do well in this place... If you have any questions or want help with anything, you can ask me on my talk page. I'm not an Admin here, just a normal user like you, but I have been around a few months, and have some idea what's going on... Nice user name by the way! Your user name is actually one of the few things that can't be changed, so it's good that you choose a cool one. Hope you enjoy editing here. Actually, what are you still doing hanging around this talk page? Get editing that article! MrN 23:15, Feb 6
- I added an article on Token Ring. (Unfortunatly I forgot to do it logged in when I first wrote it...) I could also use some help editing that. (I dont have access to images on this computer among other things..) GrueGrewsome 16:51, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Ahh! Thought that might have been you! Hea, Ethernet still needs work you know! Token Ring is looking good, but needs more work also. I almost put an ICU on it actually, but don't be surprised if someone else does. You should really put a {{WIP}} on it. That will keep the Admins at bay until you finish it. Actually, I will go do that, as I know you will keep working on it... Not sure I can do to many edits on it them right now, I have a few things on... Maybe later. Here's what I would suggest you look into doing though... Well in addition to working on the articles a bit more! Don't forget to add links to your articles from other articles. If you don't do that, no one will ever find yours, and you will have little chance of getting anyone else to help you with it. Do some Uncyc searches, look for things like network, computer, cable, or whatever, and find a place in there to add a link to your article. So long as the link is relevant, it's cool. Some people spam links to their articles from all over the place which is not good. Might also be worth adding another category or two. Have fun. MrN 19:51, Feb 7
