Forum:Oh oh some people are getting C&D letters from former employers
I had written an UnResume with bogus and funny information about my work history in a parody or joke version of a resume. it is located here and it is not my real resume but an UnResume a parody of one with fictional information on it, and not real names of former employers with fictional history to add to the joke. Someone told me that some companies are sending cease and desist letters to current and former employees, but I did not get one. I was wondering if any lawyers are here, should I have it deleted, or fight under freedom of speech and parodies and jokes being immune from libel laws? Since I didn't use any real name and it is on a humor Wiki and nobody should take it seriously, if I get a C&D letter, what are my options? --Lt. - Shh! Don't letem know! Your name is Heath Ledger and you're a parody! Plus, they don't know who it is, they'll probably never see it, and it's protected under parody. Who told you this? I think they were fucking with you. But if you're ever questioned about it, it was written by Freakazoid. --MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 03:51, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- Ah yes, they'll never know that I am really Glenn Beck, but I'll place the blame on that liberal Larry King and then I can take over his show after he gets fired by Ted Turner and then I can have two shows on CNN and eat twice as much cake. :) --Lt. - If you get a C&D letter, one good option is to cease and desist doing whatever you were doing. For example, I once got a "CEASE AND DESIST SHARING FRIENDS SEASON 4, EPISODE 7". And I did. After that, I shared only Friends Seasons 1-3, 5-10, and 4, Episodes 1-6 and 8-22.
- I've gotten really sick over it and threw up multiple times. This is causing me too much stress and they are only doing that to poison me with stress so I'll get sick or die because only I am qualified to do what I do and they couldn't replace me and after they fired me they don't want to hire me back, thus this conspiracy to get rid of me by making me sick. I got mental and physical illnesses and they know how to use them to manipulate me into killing myself or getting so sick that I die. This is psychological warfare, and I wish they wouldn't do it. If they cease and desist what they are doing, I can innovate the technology that is needed to fix the USA's problems and I need to patent some ideas before they take credit for them again. --Lt. - Instead of circumventing the orders of the Cease and Desist thing via loopholes, you could just stop watching Friends. From what I understand, Jennifer Aniston is never seen naked, and I'm not really sure why else you'd watch it... - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon (Tick Tock) (Contribs) 00:29, Oct 1
- It's one of the very few shows that can get me to sleep. Friends, Frasier, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That's about it. ER is too intense, The West Wing is too interesting, and Everybody Loves Raymond gives me nightmares that the world's shittiest sitcom is trying to gnaw its way through my skull. 22:05, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

- If you don't get a C&D, there's no problem. If you do get one, get a lawyer. It should fall under the 1nd Amendment and/or Fair Use (if you used copyright'd material). If the send you a D&D, be a wizard. Then you'll be all "Zap! I casted magic missile, I did!", and you'll be sooo cool. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 03:41, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you I feel much better now. My humor is hard to understand sometimes. I am sorry to any former employer I offended with my humor. I guess that is part of being me. --Lt. Sir Orion Blastar (talk) 11:57, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- Have you considered being a furry? Raccoons and puppies are easy to understand. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 16:29, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- Isn't becoming furry when you are not at least latent about it like trying to change your gender preference? Verp 04:57, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- No I decided to become a Pirate Ninja, much better and I am now tough enough to take the abuse and be more positive. It is a work in progress. --Lt. Sir Orion Blastar (talk) 14:08, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

"Someone told me that some companies are sending cease and desist letters to current and former employees"... letters about what? Cease and desist what? – Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize • writings • critchat) 05:01 Oct 23, 2008
- Cease and desist bumping forum topics that are almost 3 weeks old, maybe? - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon (Tick Tock) (Contribs) 05:10, Oct 23
- Cease and desist from writing negative things about the former employer on the Internet I heard. But I don't think it applies to jokes or parodies. Some companies are doing it that have a history of abusing employees, I would rather they stop abusing employees than write C&D letters. We had a 90% turn around in our IT department in four years at the law firm I worked at, but I didn't give out the real name of the law firm. --Lt. - "The following is a work of fiction and any resemblance to real persons or corporations is entirely coincidental." Ronald Strump shoves rabid stoats down his employees' pants for a laff, he does. And his wife, Melanoma Kraut-Strump, hurls office-boys down the elevator shaft in Strump Tower. She records their screams and plays them back whilst bonking the janitor. Put on a disclaimer if you're worried; that's what publishers do. It ought to be just fine legally speaking. ----OEJ 14:11, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
