On several occasions recently IP vandals have run free for several hours without an admin around to stop them. They've started around 1:00 UTC and don't stop. As the chase commences and grows into a posse, the vandals create new pages, destroy current ones, leapfrog as teams, and wave at their persuers. So maybe Why?:Give two or three trusted non-admin users who come around during those hours (not me, I can't be trusted) banning power? It can be given until abused, then taken away. And it will be abused, you can be sure of that. Aleister 11:06 11 11

Not stressed, I rather enjoy this 92 IP guy, and he claimed that he was an early user who now would like to see the site fail. I have an idea of who he is, but won't name names. But people do chase these guys down, and when it goes on for two hours then folks like Magic Man are being given Ninjastars by the vandals themselves (true, happened a few hours ago). It seems at least half of the determined ones were riled up by Roman Dog Bird at some point, which I find amusing. But, back to the topic, if Socky, Spike, and/or Lyrithya were given the power to ban obvious blankers or these serial vandals, at least unil they went crazy and abused it, it would stop the spree early and Magic man could get on with doing magic. You do know that is not possible. To give someone banning power would require giving them admin status, unless we can convince wikia to create a semi-admin user-right. Banning is also the "highest" of the admin powers, i.e. it has more potential of abuse than the powers to edit protected pages or huff/unhuff articles. And, if they have banning rights, they could ban any user whatsoever. (Admins can actually ban each other. The reason such bans are meaningless is that admins also have the power to unban themselves.) If need more people to block vandals, I would suggest getting more admins. --Mn-z 13:06, November 11, 2010 (UTC)

Mmm, hate to agree, but that'd be fairly silly - it would require full admin status, and that would be potential for abuse. By quantity, we have perhaps too many of the things already, so that can't be the issue. Just... distribution. This is happening during the American evening hours, so where are the American admins, hrm? I know we have quite a few. Make Hyperbole shut up about his grievances about anyone and everyone, regardless of predications and temerity and the the fact that such presumption regarding discussions of discussions of votes is premature regarding the fact that such discussions have already taken place and certain individuals have completely neglected to look into such matters, nevermind proposing matters of guilt and fault and whatnot or the fact that anything and everything is perfectly capable of being voted on, however terribly not pressing a concern it may or may not be, yadda yadda, et cetera etcetera, and get me a sandwich.
