Forum:I love whiskey

- If you really loved it, you'd know that if it's good it's spelled "whisky". Also, aren't you underage? Not that I care, I just need to know which folder I should put the nude pictures of yourself you e-mailed me in. -OptyC Sucks! CUN15:14, 12 Dec
- Good or not, I'm a slave to my spellcheck, which marks whisky as incorrect. And yes, underage b&, etc. FUCK YEAH I AM SO PUNK ROCK! 17:35, December 12, 2009 (UTC)
- Whisky or whiskey is a type of alcoholic beverage distilled from fermented grain mash. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 22:42, December 12, 2009 (UTC)
- See, my Firefox is still marking that as wrong. FUCK YEAH I AM SO PUNK ROCK! 22:47, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

A Whisky Bore wanders in
Yeah, Whisky is the Scotch stuff (plus Canadian or Japanese if you really must), while Whiskey is Irish (and those American Bourbon things). A single malt Scotch Whisky is the pick of the bunch, for me - try a Macallan or an Oban, see what you've been missing. Now you can return to your regularly scheduled BHOP piffle. --UU - natter 16:31, Dec 14
- My brother-in-law got me a single malt Scotch Whisky for my birthday this year. It tasted like I was drinking wood. I did not drink it again. Woody On Fire! Talking Woody Stalking Woody 16:56, December 14, 2009 (UTC)

- I knew I loved you for a reason Rabbi. And it's not because you're a Jew. Try Talisker sometimes, it's like Lahphroaig without burning your lungs. ~ 19:50, December 15, 2009 (UTC)
- Oh yes, Talisker is a fine dram too. Ardbeg also - but Laphroaig will always be my favourite. I know a pub landlord who has a couple of bottles of 40y/o (along with some other "special" whiskies) which he keeps hidden away and only brings out once in a while for customers he likes to have a free sample at the end of a night, after closing. I'd tell you where his pub is, only I want to keep him and his whisky all to myself and the other four or so people who know about it. As a whisky connoisseur yourself, I'm sure you understand. :-) Rabbi Techno kvetch Contribs FOXES 19:55, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

- Woody: depends what ya got. A couple of years ago, a friend got me a Macallan fine oak cask whisky, which looked lovely, but turned out to be so oaky I find it undrinkable, and the missus polishes it off with coke - the only whisky I'll permit that to happen to. But the Macallan proper is much better, and the Oban. Talisker, as the gents above suggest, is a fine drink, while the Tomintoul lives up to its billing of "the gentle dram". And my early birthday treat this year of something called Scapa turned out to be expensive but extremely drinkable - to the extent that three friends who sampled it with me have now bought bottles of their own. Rabbi: Lagavulin is a nice drop, but I find the Laphroaig a touch peaty at times, don't you think? Opty: blends are pretty much the work of evil, unless you get someone who really knows what they're doing. Bell's is cat's piss. the Bailie Nicol Jarvie is acceptable though. You can all wake up again now. --UU - natter 21:10, Dec 15
- Which Scapa was that? I had the 14 and it was good stuff. ~ 21:14, December 15, 2009 (UTC)
- Whisky snob! :P Actually, you're correct that the devil is in the variations. I've had some blends that tasted like complete ass, while others have been very enjoyable. Single malts in my experience have mostly been a bit too peaty for me, but when they're good they're the best. Standard Macallan is a nice drink, but a bit too mediciney (is that a word?) for me. -OptyC Sucks! CUN21:27, 15 Dec
- I like the peatyness of Laphroaig and Lagavuillin too (though it's far less evident in the latter). Islay malts are the best whisky going, in my opinion. And UU - if you're ever misfortunate enough to be given a bottle of Bell's, I recommend you get yourself a bottle of High Commissioner from Asda and drink that first - Bell's will taste like God's spunk in comparison (which is obviously very tasty). So will absolutely everything else, for that matter - even sobriety. Rabbi Techno kvetch Contribs FOXES 11:59, December 16, 2009 (UTC)
- J&B, that's gotta be the worse one. ~ 13:42, December 16, 2009 (UTC)
- Worst I ever tried was some Canadian "whiskey" (this one didn't even deserve the name whiskey, never mind whisky), £7 for a 1l bottle in Lidl. Never felt quite so ill as I did the day after I drank an entire bottle of it one night. Weird thing was, I did the same thing about two weeks later. Rabbi Techno kvetch Contribs FOXES 13:48, December 16, 2009 (UTC)
- ROFL. I used to drink J&B and water exclusively. Then I got older and (arguably) smarter. Don't be hatin' on Canadian whisky either. It's no good to drink straight, no doubt. But for mixed drinks there's nothing better because the flavor is so mild it doesn't overpower your drink. Of course, mixed drinks are fail, but if that's what floats your boat... -OptyC Sucks! - Now, I too like a good port, but there's just the tiniest problem - a good port contains elements that can affect asthma, and it affects mine quite heavily. So the choice is often between having a glass of port and spending the rest of the night pathetically welded to my inhaler, or enjoying a whisky instead. Difficult choice: a nice drink, or being able to breathe... --UU - natter 12:27, Dec 17
