Since there seems to not be a standard good way of doing this, I am proposing a forum to fix this.

I have 3 suggestions worth voting on, as listed below

  1. Maintain the "status quo"-basically 1 vote, no partial votes. That's it.
  2. 1 vote only, partial votes allowed
  3. No partial votes, but assuming there are 3 or more options, you are allowed 2 votes.

For this particular forum, please no partial votes, but I will allow 2 votes. (NOT +2 weight of votes, ie 2 fors, 2 againsts, or a for and an against). Thanks! I also left comments below. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 00:38, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

NOTE This applies to forums only, not to VFH, VFP, VFD, VFS, and forums with predetermined rules like Top 10 of the Year or any uncyclopedians/noob of the whatever or whatever. Only on forums with undetermined rules. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 01:11, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

I may also decide later to do grandfathering or not for any open forums. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 12:58, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

On hold. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 21:42, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

1 vote only, no partial votes

Score: 0
  1. Symbol declined.svg Against. This is a horrible idea. It is going to cause people to not express all their opinions. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 01:08, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
  2. Symbol for vote.svg For. Most things on the forum are just "Do you want this, or do you not want this." Pretty simple, really. -WohMi, the best damn duelist on this website (talk) 16:57, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

1 vote only, partial votes allowed

Score: 0

No partial votes, 2 votes allowed on 3+ options

Score: 0
  1. Symbol for vote.svg For. This seems like a totally reasonable solution, forbidding partial voting yet allow people to express there opinions more then once. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 01:06, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
  2. Symbol declined.svg Against. This just perpetuates the problem of the partial votes, because now people have to vote twice, or once. All this does is make the score doubled, really. -WohMi, the best damn duelist on this website (talk) 17:00, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
    1. @WohMi: You are only allowed 2 votes, you voted 3 times, which one will you remove? Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 19:16, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
    2. Owing to how there are multiple negative votes cast by WohMi, all are invalidated until WohMi selects one specific thing to vote "against".  Cassandra  (talk07:33pm  February 23, 2021
      1. But... there are 3 different questions? -WohMi, the best damn duelist on this website (talk) 19:35, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
        1. Yes, but I said "For this particular forum, please no partial votes, but I will allow 2 votes. (NOT +2 weight of votes, ie 2 fors, 2 againsts, or a for and an against)."Anyway, issue resolved. I had readjusted the score. Gale5050 complain about me! General comments

  • Symbol comment vote.svg Comment. if you abstain, it does count as a vote unless you put it here, in which it does not. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 12:50, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
    • Gale5050, a couple of things:
      1. Please reread your comment and try to fix it so that it makes sense, grammatically and logically.
      2. Kind of the same, what do you mean abstaining counts as a vote?
      3. I'm not sure we need these types of set-in-stone policies. You're trying to make hard and fast rules for future forums that could cover a wide range of topics and have any number of options. Perhaps we should keep the status quo and understand that we have a general way that things are done, but exceptions can be made on a case by case basis. MrX blow me Emoji-drool.gif 17:15, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
  • Symbol comment vote.svg Comment. I am changing it slightly. How about this? It will only be 1.0 vote when its like "do you want this, or no"? But, when there are multiple options(say Option 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5), having 2 is allowed. Maybe there can be a clause saying who gets this amount of weight. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 17:20, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
    • How about we don't change it slightly? Keeping things simpler is usually better. When a particular forum is started, if there is some special circumstance that requires a different way of doing things, we can deal with it then. MrX blow me Emoji-drool.gif 17:27, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
      • Ok, we’ll leave it then, but that is what I mean. Also please please please read the comments before voting as well. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 18:18, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
        • You still haven't fixed your first comment or addressed my question about abstaining, but ok, what are you saying I didn't read? MrX blow me Emoji-drool.gif 18:29, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
          • (1) No I am not talking about you; I am talking to voters. I hope it clears everything up. (2) When you abstain, you are technically voting neutral. You can't vote neutral on one, support on one and oppose on one-that's 3 votes! You are only allowed 2. You can put an abstain in here though. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 18:59, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
            • Ok, but abstaining is not a vote. In parliamentary procedure, many congresses, clubs, etc. around the world count the number of abstains simply to determine whether or not they have a quorum (if required) in order for certain things to pass. But that is not something here on Uncyc. MrX blow me Emoji-drool.gif 19:03, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
              • That's ok, still, better left to comments(like VFH's), as to not clutter the page. I have made a section below.

Absentions

If you feel like abstaining in one, two or all of the votes, please do so here. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 19:14, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

  1. Symbol neutral vote.svg Abstain. on the 1 vote but partial votes. Personally I enjoyed giving 0.5 votes, but it makes sense how it is disruptive, therefore messing up vote numbering, and why it can be a pain in the buttside. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 19:18, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

This forum needs to be completely remodelled. We have different ways of voting for different kinds of votes. You have also provided a limited number of options for different kind of votes. There should also be an actual discussion before the voting starts Gale.

Discussion

Do we even need to revisit the voting rules? They work fine the way they are. Gale's fractional voting is obnoxious and shouldn't be permitted. We have a one vote option for some votes (most votes win) and in other cases we have a vote for or against any option for votes where there are a number of similar options to choose from (especially aesthetic choices) with the highest number winning. Some votes have strict rules already agreed on. I don't see any reason to change this.

Do we need to revisit voting?

Please don't interfere with a forum; I think just letting it run its course is better. At this rate it'll probably just maintain the norm anyway. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 21:24, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
Shabidoo wasn't interfering. MrX blow me Emoji-drool.gif 21:31, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
No Gale. When you start a forum that would do something such as changing voting rules you have a discussion before you start the voting (something you skipped). Let's see if we even need to have a vote first. ShabiDOO 21:38, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
Still, normally we don't do a vote first to decide if it's necessary, we discuss. I have changed my reason below. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 21:42, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
And at least give reasons! Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 21:47, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
We both did. MrX blow me Emoji-drool.gif 21:49, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
That is true if you really look. So I'm just gonna post links for reference-Shabidoo, MrX just see comments above. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 22:06, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

Yes

  1. There isn't organization per se, allows others to decide what they think it is. Not a great standerdized system IMO. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 21:24, 23 February 2021 (UTC)(updated 21:42, 23 February 2021 (UTC))

  • Gale5050, did you create this forum in userspace just to circumvent your sanctions? Maybe actually following them will result them being loosened or dropped quicker. ~ HipponiasCUN Talk - Contribs - Articles  22:08, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
    • Yes but doing this was actually allowed. As a matter or fact if you ask Cassie I think he said this would be a test to see if he would allow me to edit forums, ie how I behave in this, so I am trying not to start an argument. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 22:17, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

New proposal

I have a new idea. For something like the top 10, it’s an election, allowing only one for vote. This is like an election. No, we will not do electoral colleges, but it would be a good idea.

When multiple things are discussed, they must be in several forums. Tell me what you think of my proposal below. The catch is, by doing this, {{Abstain}} and {{Against}} votes would be banished. Gale5050 complain about me! And see my Wikipedia contributions! 13:49, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Against

  1. Works quite fine the way it is. We don't need several forums for things. ShabiDOO 15:00, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
  2. Symbol declined.svg Strongly against. The Top 10 voting system is the last thing we need to change. Gale5050, I know you love Wikidrama and Wikibureaucracy, but all these policy changes would have a negative impact here. MrX blow me Emoji-drool.gif 15:26, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
  3. Symbol declined.svg Against.There's really no need to make drastic changes to the forum as of right now. -WohMi, the best damn duelist on this website (talk) 19:39, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
