Forum:Donation Counter Dismisal
Okay, so as we can all see there is now a donation box on every page, due it being in some hardwired code (I guess). Anyway, as you probably have guessed, Wikipedia has a similar box, with a twist. Wikipedia allows me to click "dismiss" which (as far as I can tell) gets rid of said box, forever. So, is there some .js/.css code that can either add a dismiss option, or that can just make it disspear for users who add it to their uncyclopedia.js/uncyclopedia.css (respectively)? --Sir Zombiebaron 20:07, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- I think that was a whacky trick in the skin. I'm not sure. I'll get back to you on that one.
- Meanwhile, I've updated the donation notice for localisation. That way people see who we're actually shilling for and it alludes to our past beneficiary - David Gerard 20:22, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- robchurch on #wikimedia-tech says it's the shiny new DismissableSiteNotice extension, which Brion wrote especially for this fund drive ;-) The fundraiser is not actually running across Wikia or anything - this is so far just Uncyc being especially nice. (Tompkins put it up, I tweaked it - see MediaWiki:Sitenotice.) So it's not something we have a moral compulsion to put up, it just perpetuates the Wikipedia-lookalikeness. And helps a good cause - wikipedia.org is now #10 on Alexa some days and is desperately short of cash for the coming year. Does anyone have any drastic objection to it? - David Gerard 20:35, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- Wikipedia lookalikeness shouldn't happen here anymore. Please take it down. I don't want to be a Wikipedia parody, just a funny Wiki. Crazyswordsman...With SAVINGS!!!! (T/C) 22:14, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- I say it should be fixed to say Uncyclomedia, and link to parody version of those pages, preferably at UnMeta. --User:Nintendorulez 22:20, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I kinda have to agree with Nin. We should mirror Wikipedia, not copy it. Someone needs to make a page that mirrors Wikipedia's donation page, kinda like we had with Chron's Ferrari. Maybe it could be asking for donations for PLS !!! ? Then, when someone wants to pay, it can say, "Donate to Bradaphraser's personal Swiss bank account (he promises he won't take all your money and blow it in some horrible way)," and maybe if someone is stupid enough to DO that, it can say, "Transferring all your money." And it'd be really funny if it actually did. Anyway, that's a thought. We generally AREN'T nice to Wikimedia (I generally think of us as a neutral party, in that regard).--<<>> 22:41, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- I imagine that our readers are smart enough to know where to truly donate and that we can have a joke version of it. The only people dumb enough to fall for it are these writers, and I doubt they'd be willing to donate. --User:Nintendorulez 22:48, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Mock Up Counter
You can help Bradaphraser out by donating to Bradaphraser's new house the Pooh Lit Suprise Fund!
Tax-deductibility of donations
- Now all I need is some interwiki links to UnMeta, and then an UnMeta page! --Sir Zombiebaron 22:58, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
You can help Insineratehymn out by donating to the Death Metal Bread Fund!
Tax-deductibility of donations
Actually, we need to get rid of it NOW.
It's ruining AAAAAAAAA! and Nihilism. Crazyswordsman...With SAVINGS!!!! (T/C) 00:54, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Well if you want to be even more obsessive about Nihilism, then you might want to do something about the Google ad then. --KWild 02:42, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- I already brought that up like five times. Crazyswordsman...With SAVINGS!!!! (T/C) 03:00, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

BTW
They took it down on Wikipedia. Crazyswordsman...With SAVINGS!!!! (T/C) 03:11, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
Proposal
What if we make some kind of page, that looks like a parody, but includes the links to make a real donation? t o m p k i n s blah. ﺞوﻦ וףה ՃՄ ண்ஸ ފއހ วอฏม +տ trade websites 03:32, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Template would look like this:
You can give the gift of humor by Chron's Ferrari Fund donating to Uncyclomedia!
Tax-deductibility of donations
- With the first two links being replaced with User:Tompkins/fund1 and User:Tompkins/fund2. t o m p k i n s blah. ﺞوﻦ וףה ՃՄ ண்ஸ ފއހ วอฏม +տ trade websites 05:07, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Objections? No? Alrighty then.
- Somewhat better. But there needs to be a way to put it on AAAAAAAAA! in all A's and on Nihilism blank. Crazyswordsman...With SAVINGS!!!! (T/C) 06:23, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

I hate to be the one who brings this up, as I actually like the Wikipedia project quite a bit, but isn't stumping for cash for them (a site who, the only REAL connection we have to them is that we satirize and parody them) kind of like a political satirist taking up donations for political candidates? Why are we doing this, exactly?--<<>> 13:52, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
Donations
In the past we have elicated donations for natural disasters (you know where people die and the like) can we not link it to template:donate or something (maybe add wikimedia if people feel the need too)--The Right Honourable Maj Sir Elvis UmP KUN FIC MDA VFH Bur. - I've hacked up Uncyclopedia:Fundraising accordingly - anyone can edit it, btw - David Gerard 13:52, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
For anyone who doesn't like it...
Add the following to your personal css:
#siteNotice { display: none !important }
I also don't like it that much either - it should be taken down after a day or so, or have it just on the front page or something. But it definitely shouldn't be kept for the same amount of time wikimedia keeps it up. And I'm not so sure linking to wikimedia's donation pages is such a great idea either. • Spang • ☃ • talk • 15:35, 17 Dec 2006

- I agree, move it to the front page, I only put it up as a joke, and it appears that it's hard to be funny anymore these days. *tear* Really though, whatever people want is fine. t o m p k i n s blah. ﺞوﻦ וףה ՃՄ ண்ஸ ފއހ วอฏม +տ trade websites 17:51, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Quit Yer Bitchin
If all y'all'd just donated, the donation counter would be maxed out and it would be gone. It's only because you are miserly bastards that it's still around. Do you hate humor? Do you hate children? Just donate, and stop being such whiny bitches. It's amazing how you resort to technological hacks just to avoid a little charity. Do you kick kittens too, you cold-hearted bastards? 12/19 01:20
